HELP! my internet keeps quitting!

Question

Whenever i use my internet (Firefox or Netscape) they just quit by themselves and then a message pops up saying:
"The application Firefox has unexpectedly quit. The system and other applications have not been affected."
I have an iMac OS 9 and it's from '95 I think.
Does anybody know why this is happening?
I've tried deleting files I don't need and restarting the computer and re-connecting my internet cord into my computer and nothing is helping!!
AAHH! Help!!

Welcome to Apple's Discussions.
Almost all programs for Macs have an addressable memory allocation set for them. This allocation limits how much memory (RAM) the program can grab. A few programs, such as Finder, have dynamic allocations, meaning that they can self-adjust their allocations as needed. Internet browsers are not one of those - browsers have fixed memory allocations.
It seems most, if not all, browsers arrive with memory allocations set too low. The result - when there is insufficient memory to handle the task given, such as opening a complex, graphic-laden page, they auto-quit.
The solution - increase the Preferred memory allocation for the program. This Apple KBase article describes how to do that -

If you are on broadband (if you connect to the internet via DSL or cable), try also setting its Cache to zero. This setting is made in the program's Preferences (that item is usually found in the Edit menu).
