Help, my iPad version 1 has crashed when trying to install OS 5

Can anyone please help.
I am runing windows XP and recently downloaded iTunes 10.5.
I have an 8 month old iPad version 1, which has been working perfectly up to this point.
I plugged my iPad into the computer and 'sync'd' the content with my PC.
I was then invited to update the operating system to OS5, which I accepted.
This process took about 50 minutes to download, and then it said it was installing the software on my iPad.
I then got 'error message' saying 'Unable to restore Kevin's Ipad - Unknown error'
My iPad was then frozen, and all you got onthe iPad  screen was a picture of the connection lead and an iTunes symbol like you do when you first buy the iPad.
I tried re-connecting the iPad, and usual restarting of desktop PC etc, and it says 'iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes'.
I clicked on the 'restore iPad' button and after several minutes thinknig about it, i get the error message 'The iPad could not be restored. An Unknown error Occurred (1604)'
I am now left with a frozen iPad which is useless and wishing that I had never embarked on the updating of the operating system.
Has anyone got any ideas of how I can restore my iPad, or is it a return to technician for repair?
Would deleting iTunes on my PC and re-installing it do any good??
Any advice at all would be gratefully received. I am tearing my hair out over this as it was perfect before trying to update software.
The thing is still under warranty. Would the warranty cover this kind of problem??
Many thanks

You said that you keep getting the error code 1604. Did you try putting the iPad into recovery mode and when the error code appears - close iTunes and restart iTunes while the iPad is connected to your PC?
Error 1604: This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, uninstalling and reinstalling USB ports, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections, device not recognized properly, computer won't recognize a FireWire or USB device). If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for error 1604.
When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while iPhone remains connected.
iPhone should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.

  • Ipad 4 ePrint crashes when trying to access Photos

HP ePrint v5.2.1 installed on iPad4 with iOS 6.1.3 crashes when trying to access Photos for ePrinting.  Instead of opening up Photos to allow selection of photo to print, it returns to the home screen.  Access to Photos was granted and confirmed in the Privacy Settings.  This appears to be a bug.  Printing emails works both on local network HP laserjet and remote ePrint Laserjet printers.
I got around this bug by emailing the photo, then accessing the email within the HP ePrint Ap and printing the attachment.  Awkward but it works.  It would be nice to have the bug fixed so that HP ePrint can access Photos directly as intended.

If accessing photos is causing the ePrint app to crash, go into your iCloud settings and turn off your shared photo streams.  Let me know if you have any questions about that, if this works, or if that doesn't help. I have a good feeling this will fix it for you. Keep me posted!

  • Extension Manager 2.1 for Mac crashes when trying to install any extension

    Hi,
I have the Adobe Extension Manager 2.1 installed on a Mac running Mac OS X 10.5.6.  I updated all the latest Adobe and Apple software.
I tried to install MXP files for Adobe AIR, jQuery, and Drupal, but doing so crashes the Extension Manager.  I tried uninstalling it using the Photoshop installer (which is what installed the Manager initially), but this didn't help.
The Manager also crashes when I try to open the Help > About the dialogue, both from the main window and from the menu bar.
Can anyone help me with this?  Thanks in advance!
    Rémi

Reading the thread linked below resolved my problem.  I only had to uninstall Safari 4 Beta before I could use the Extension Manager.

  • IPad 3 Settings crashes when trying to enable iCloud Calendar

    Hi all,
Being a Apple fan, I am getting peeved by lack of quality.
I bought the new iPad on launch day in March and the Calendar app has rarely worked. Matter of fact it crashed almost constantly. To try and fix this issue, I had turned off iPad > Settings > iCloud > Off, to try and stem the offending code or sync session. Now when I try to re-enable (turn on) iCloud Calendars on the iPad, the iPad prompts me with a message "Merge Calendars.......Your calendars will be merged with iCloud".  When I tap the "Merge" button the iPad Settings app crashes and shuts down.  URGH!
I have tried a full restore as recommended in the Support communities; however, no dice. Calendar crashes, and Settings crashes when attempting to re-enable to merge iPad calendar with iCloud.
Anyone have a similiar experience or solution to share?
    Thanks,
    J

    ....update.
I found a site that suggested turning off all iPad > Settings > iCloud (services). When prompted to save data on iPad, I tapped "Yes". I then powered down the iPad completely and restarted it. Then it took me two tries to re-enable ONLY the iCloud Calendars setting.
    It worked!
Amazing what happens when dick around long enough to make complex device synching work.
    Hope this helps others!

  • Crashes when trying to install

    Trying to install iWork 05:
When installer program trys to run I get:
"installer package needs to run a program" - -
then shuts down before I can click "continue"
    Please advise! MP

This doesn't appear to be a problem specific to iWork, but with Apple's installer program since it is quitting before it even gets to the iWork installer. Try the usually basic troubleshooting steps.
]Does it work if you try to install from another account on your Mac?
]Use Disk Utility to repair permissions.
]Start up from your eMac or Panther install disk & use Disk Utility to repair disk
]Use a maintenance utility to run the cron scripts & clean caches such as YASU or OnyX.

  • App Store on 3GS crashes when trying to install apps after iOS4

Is anyone experiencing this too? Every time it tries to install an app from the 3GS, it bombs out to home. Installing through syncing with iTunes on my iMac works fine however... no more installing free useless apps on the move for me... have to do it on the mac... stupid really!

Same problem here on 3GS with 4.01.
I can update apps, but if I try to buy/install a new one, the app store promptly crashes.
    Any ideas?

  • PLEASE HELP!!! GARAGEBAND CRASHES WHEN TRYING TO OPEN OR CREATE A PROJECT!!!!!!

When I try to open or create a project in garageband 11 (running osx 10.9) it just crashes. The spinning wheel just stays there.

The new Garageband hates me too. Everytime I turn around there seems to be another bug with it. You should still have the old garageband available to you on your hard drive, but this may help. I didn't have the same problem you did, but my loops would not play any sounds until I went to Garageband -> Prefrances -> Audio / Midi, Change Ouput and Input device to System Setting, uncheck Audio Units, Check Global Echo and Reverb and hit reset MIDI Drivers for good measure. Then restart garageband.
Nothing I have given you is a solution, just work arounds saddly. I don't think there are any solutions until they fix the bugs.

  • Weird system crash when trying to install Photoshop CS2

It gets to "Running installer script" and then nothing. I only have a movable cursor at this point. I can't even force-quit. I'm left to force a shutdown with the power button.
I've tried Hardware test and the computer passed. I check the disk in disk utility - was fine. I even tried copying the photoshop disk to the HD and run it from there... crashed the same way.
    Anyone have any ideas?

Frank, not sure if this is quite your problem, but there is a known issue with Photoshop CS2 and Intel based macs after the last security update. If you install Photoshop CS2 then the computer will no longer boot properly.
The solution is to start up in "safe" mode (by booting the Mac with the shift key held down - this may take a while as "safe mode" involves a full directory check and repair if necessary) . Once it has booted remove Adobe VersionCueCS2 from /Library/StartupItems.
If this is not done then the only way to boot the computer is by Netboot, CD boot or Safeboot.
Adobe are apparently promising a fix. see http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=2358601#2358601

Ok. If I install it and CS5 does work...will the Creative Cloud be able to run at the same time as CS5? or will Creative Cloud delete or over-rule my current adobe creative suite? I would like to keep the CS5 for older projects ideally

Well, I rebuilt the entire workbook... that was a few months ago and so far, the problem hasn't resurfaced. It really wasn't fun to do, but whatever glitch there was in the file, I eliminated it.
I think I should mention that I am using Office v.X, NOT Office 2004. I got a new Intel iMac this week and yesterday when I opened up my files, it opened up the test drive (a JOKE of a program if you ask me) Anyway, some of the very minor issues I had with Office v.X were solved in the 2004 version. (When opening up large multi worksheet files without Excel being already opened, the tabs have white text) Anyway, I am still going to wait for the universal version to come out, but it seems that the newer versions may have fewer glitches (as is to be expected)
At any rate, best of luck to you!
