Help! My iPod content is gone...

I've been erasing content on iTunes after loading it up on my iPod (my computer hard drive is small). I accidentally synched with an empty iTunes and it took off all of my purchased content (music, games) that wasn't backed up yet. Is there a way to get the content back? I have my E-receipts. Any help would be hugely appreciated.

The policy on lost purchases is that you have to pay to download them again:
"Once a Product is purchased and you receive the Product, it is your responsibility not to lose, destroy, or damage the Product, and Apple shall be without liability to you in the event of any loss, destruction, or damage." iTunes Store: Purchased content can be downloaded only once
You could try contacting the iTunes Music Store Customer Service and you might be able to persuade them to sanction a second free download. There have been occasional reports in the iTunes forum of this happening, however just be aware that they are not under any obligation to do so. If you click on any of the links on this page you'll find a space at the bottom to email your query: iTMS Customer Service

  • Help moving iPod contents to new computer

I just got a MacBook and would like to transfer all the songs on my iPod that I previously used with my iBook G4. I went to this Web page (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300173), and I believe I followed all the instructions correctly, but none of my music transfered. What's going on? On the steps when I had to move folders with my entire library it said "this could take awhile if you have a lot of songs," but it always took less than a second--like nothing was being moved. Please help.

OK, I am using Senuti. The files are transferring.
But the ratings and play counts aren't showing up in iTunes, though they are in Senuti! What gives?!!
AND I the files aren't showing up in my library unless I manually click each file from finder. Why?!
Should I select a library when this is over by holding down option and opening iTunes? If so, what do I select as my library? The text file named "iTunes Library," or the folder "iTunes Music," which has all my music files?

In addition to the manual method you are trying, there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. • IPod contents not showing after connection to 2nd Mac

I sync my iPod with my home computer with no problem. I bring it to work and just connect it to my work computer and it sees it as a volume on the desktop and in iTunes, but when I unmount and go to use it, the iPod the contents are gone. I know everything is still on the iPod (I can see it shown in the usage bar in the iPod summary window in iTunes) but the iPod shows no songs or video for me to play. I don't sync it with my work computer--I am only interested in using it for disk use. When I take it home and sync it everything is there and it works fine after that.
I have the same iTunes account at home and at work and it gives me no warnings or anything when I connect the iPod at work (about syncing or erasing contents). I am thinking it may possibly be the difference in iTunes versions. I have 7.5 at home and 7.3.2 at work (I would have 7.5 if I could).
Any suggestions? I would hate to think I cannot use it as a transport drive anymore...

    Yep, that's probably correct.

  • Problem:  Apps won't open, Music, Movies iPod contents dissappear

I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem.
The other day, I just turned off my phone and turned it back on. Then all my downloaded apps stopped working. I would try to open and they would begin to open only to go back to my iPhone screen.
Then I noticed all iPod contents (Movies, music, Audiobooks) were gone. I ended up restoring my phone which worked temporarily.
It happened again yesterday. Had to restore again.
It happened again just now. Can't restore right now.
I have many applications 40+. I guess it could be one of those causing it but I'm also thinking it might be a hardware issue.
Anyone else have this or a similar problem?
    Thanks!

Does your apps work? I'm guessing they don't.
Just uninstall all your apps through iTunes. It will take forever but once its done, check your music. If its still missing, power off your phone and power it on.
The music should return. If it didn't, you might have to restore it. You can contact Apple if you like.
Then go through and install the apps you want one at a time. Don't go too much over 20. If you install too many, you will have the problem again and you'll have to repeat the steps above.
Hopefully the next update will fix the problem. I think I read some places where downgrading to iTunes 7.7 fixed their issue but I didn't go through all that.

  • Ipod content is grayed out and I cannot select as source or play on mini

Hi - this just happened and I need to know how to fix. I cannot seem to play any of the music on my ipod mini. I see the songs but the ipod skips right over them. The exception is one song that I downloaded for free. When I log into itunes, I see the ipod and the songs, but they are all grayed out and I cannot select any of them or play from my ipod source. This just happened this week and I wonder if I have somehow removed thelink to the purchased music? I connect the ipod to my other computer and it erased my content (I am new at this) so I reconnected to the orginal and restored my playlist, but nothing will play now. All itunes and ipod are up to date. Can any one help?
    Ipod Mini   Windows XP

Grey text when you look at the content and lock symbol at the bottom of the screen simply shows that your iPod is set to "automatically update songs and playlists". When you connected your iPod to the second computer you will have been presented with a dialogue box saying you were linked to another computer and asking if you wanted to link to this one. I would guess that you clicked "Yes" instead of "No" which is why your iPod was erased. If you want to access your iPod directly, play it through your iTunes, connect it to a second computer etc. you just need to change the update method to "Manually manage songs and Playlists" in the iPod preferences. Managing Your Songs Manually One thing to remember about manually updating though is that the iPod also has to be manually ejected before the "Do Not Disconnect" message will go away. Safely disconnect iPod
Also, If you usually change your iPod Options by selecting 'View iPod' from the 'Edit' menu in Windows, you may on occasion find it is also greyed out, however if you right click the iPod icon in iTunes you can select 'iPod Options' and change to manual update from there.
    For info: iPod 101
The iPod offers three ways to transfer music from your computer. You can select one of the following update modes from the iPod Preferences menu in iTunes (Edit=>Preferences=>'iPod' tab):
    1) Automatically update all songs and playlists. This is the default mode, in which your entire music library, including playlists, is automatically synced to your iPod. If the music library on your computer exceeds the iPod storage capacity, you are prompted to select a different update method.
    2) Automatically update selected playlists only. With this option, iTunes automatically copies the playlists you have selected to the iPod when you connect it to the computer.
    3) Manually manage songs and playlists. You can also choose to transfer music to the iPod manually. This allows you to drag and drop individual songs and playlists from iTunes to the iPod.

  • Help with iPod alarm and playlist, please

    Hello friendly iPod people...
I am the happy owner of a brand new 20GB iPod with color display. I use the iPod for different things, and one of them is to listen to music as I go to bed (with a set of powered speakers). Since I now have a new version of the iPod (I am replacing a 2G unit), I would like to use the alarm setting to wake to music as well. I tried it this morning, and it seems that the iPod will not wake from sleep to play music. The alarm/playlist will start if the iPod has not gone to sleep, but to me that seems like a silly way for the alarm to function.
Am I doing something wrong, or is this one of the limitations of the alarm function?
Thanks in advance for your help!
    Michael

    Great News!
I've figured out the reason it wasn't working and was able to "wake to music" this morning:
Yes, you need to run "Sleep Timer" as the shut-down method in order for the Alarm to awaken with a playlist, AND the playlist needs to be at least as long as the sleep timer setting--many of mine were slightly less than 60 minutes, and I was using the 60 minute timer. Last night I tried a playlist that was much longer than 60 minutes for sure, ran the sleep timer and set the alarm to music at 6 am. Imagine my surprise when my music began playing softly playing, just as planned, at 6 am!!!!
So, thanks for all your supportive comments, and I hope this helps anyone else who was working on this. I now know to pay more attention to the length of my playlists.
    Cheers,
    Michael
