    Hello there, Conorjl7.
The following Knowledge Base article provides some good, practical steps for troubleshooting issues with charging:
iPhone and iPod touch: Charging the battery
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1476
    Particularly:
If your battery doesn't charge, or if your device shows a low-battery image, black screen, or "accessory not supported" alert, follow these steps.
Inspect the connector at the bottom of the phone:
Make sure that there are no bent pins in the connector.
Make sure that the connector is free from debris.
If there are bent pins or debris, please contact Apple Support.
    Otherwise, continue troubleshooting.
Make sure that the outlet you're using works.
Make sure that the Apple USB cable and Apple USB power adapter work.
Plug the device in to power and let it charge for up to 30 minutes. If you don't have an Apple USB power adapter, try connecting to a computer's high-power USB 2.0 port (not a keyboard). The computer must be on.
If the device still exhibits an issue, try turning your device off and then on again while connected to power.
If the issue is persists, please contact Apple Support.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • IPod is frozen, none of the "5 steps" are working...Help!

Got the iPod Nano yesterday for Christmas as did many others. It was working fine until this morning when I tried to charge it by connecting it to the computer. It lit up and froze on the spot. The clicker made a noise when pressed down, but would not work otherwise. Eventually, the clicking stopped and it remained frozen until it died a few hours later. After that ordeal, I turned it back on with the remaining bit of battery to it working fine again, and charged it for a couple hours. Everything seemed good. About 20 minutes ago, I wanted to update my library so I (once again) plugged it into the USB. It lit up, and froze. The reset method does not work, the toggle of the HOLD switch does not work, nothing seems to be working.

I left my iPod Nano alone for a couple of months. I assumed the battery was drained, so plugged it into a charger last night.
The apple icon comes up but I cannot get it past that icon. I plugged it into the power cord & plugged it into my computer, which I left on all night. Still displays apple icon only.
The computer does not recognize the ipod as being attached.
I have tried the "slide hold on & off" and the reboot sequence (holding down the center button & the menu simultaneously). It turns off after 6 seconds and then comes on.
And still the Apple & nothing.
So do I let it discharge again and charge & retry?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Help, My iPod just turns on and off...my PC doesn't even get to "see" it.

I just got the 5G 60 Gig iPod. I was charging it for the first time. And of course windows wanted to jump on in. iTunes started up and wanted to transfer music, the unit wanted it's initial setup, but iTunes switched it over to th Do Not Disconnect mode. I got the register your new iPod screens to come up, then music started automatically transfering. Then I got I must reboot my computer screen...I ignored it, figuring it had to finish getting the music transfered. Then about a 1/3 into the music tansfer, I got some kind of could not find error concening the music, then my computer stopped doing anything. I did a restart, no all my iPod does is turn on and off by itself, (from the Apple icon, to back off) and won't stop doing it. I tried resetting the unit, but then it still continues. Connecting and reconnecting the USB cable, restarting the PC etc....Help, what do I do. Frustrated is beyond what I'm feeling right now...I keep thinking what the **** I just spent, for this to be the end result!! Is this unit fried? Or will it get damaged!!! HELP

I had exactly the same issue when connecting my new BLACK 60mb Video iPod to connect to my PC via USB 2.0.
The iPod kept Crashing & Freezing also iTunes become unstable and very slow, it kept saying "unable to write to disk" every 5 minutes and I had to disconnect & re-connect for the same message to show again in 5 mins later, it eventually told me not to disconnect the iPod. However, after 30 mins i just did it.
I then opened iPod updater and re-attached my ipod with USB 1.
This seemed to take an age to recognise (5 mins +) but bear with it. Once it was connected I reinstated to factory settings, once I did this it automatically told me to update my software to 1.1.1.
When I then opened iTunes it again took 5 mins to connect, but it then started to transfer my music, which took over 6 hours to do 22MB.
Having said that I have had no "can not write messages"
Today I have conencted (again taking 5 mins to connect) but it has transfered over 1000 photos in under 4 mins and updated all tunes.
    hope this helps,

  • HELP! iPod has frozen

I need urgent help. My iPod was working fine this afternoon, I plugged it into my comp and now has completely frozen on the Do Not Disconnect screen. It is not charging and even when disconnected it still has the same screen. When plugged back in it says the same. My computer isn't recognising it either. Please help as I need it for a long haul flight tomorrow!

Let the iPod battery die. After it has died, plug it back in and it should be fine. You night not have it for your flight, but it should work again.
There's always that old portable CD player.

  • Ipod Touch lights keep turning off then turn back on later

THis is a problem that has happened recently. I was playing a game on my ipod touch then all of a sudden the lights shut off, but the game is still on and the ipod touch is working fine. I went to check on the brightness but it had no effect. Now its been happening alot after that time. How can this problem be fixed?

I have this same issue accept my problem started after i updated the software to the os software that was offerd by itunes. i push the home button yo turn it on & the light flashes on the goes off quickly & sometimes will stay on for a few minuets but ultimately stays off.& after waiting for a day i can power on for again a few minuets of light.. can anyone help please.

  • Ipod displayed white lines, shut off, now doesn't work. What do I do?

I was using an app on my 32 gb Ipod touch that I just got in Janurary 2012. The ipod then displayed a bunch of white lines and shut off. I hooked the ipod to itunes and it did not recognize it. I then tried to hold in the power and home buttons in with it connected to the computer and without it connected to the computer. After being disapointed I went on the web to see if I could find the answer. The ipod then randomly turned on. My next plan was to restore the itouch, as some said that this was needed to fix it. I first wanted to save my data on some apps so i did not lose them. This was a seperate app than before, so I know it had nothing to do with the particular app. Well anyway, while doing this, the ipod did the same exact thing, but now I cannot get it to work again. If I can get it to work I plan on restoring it right away, but I am starting to think it is a hardware issue. Any ideas?

    - After being connected to a charging source for an hour, see if placing the iPod in recovery mode will allow you to restore the iPOd. For recovery mode see:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore
    - Next try DFU mode.
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - Last, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since you likely have a hardware problem.
