Help, my ipod is in safe mode

i connected my ipod to my computer and it turned on in safe mode and now itunes is telling me i must restore my settings...is there any way to fix this problem without loosing all my songs?? i have about 1400 and it has taken me two months to get all these songs on there!!

If you are using iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
For all other non purchased music (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it can be messy.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.
There is also CopyPod. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.

• Helping getting ipod out of recovery mode

i was updating my ipod touch to iOS 4.3 and it said there was an error at the end, and now my ipod is in recovery mode. itunes is telling me to restore it. i dont want to loose my data because if i restore i will loose everything. is there a way to save my settings???
Message was edited by: ice Queam

The first part of an update is that itunes makes a backup like it normally does during syncing. You can find the date of the backup by going to the Device tab in iTunes' Preferences. If other items that are not in the backup like music and video, all you have to do is to restore from backup and sync,

• Help with iPod Touch in recovery mode

I am trying to help my sister with her daughter's iPod touch. The end goal is to update to iOS6. It is a fourth gen iPod Touch. I plugged it into iTunes (iPod was still iOS V4.something or other) and it said there was an update availalbe. I clicked Download and Update. Got a message about the update deleting all the apps since this iPod had been synced with another computer (my sister has a new computer since she last synced the iPod -- the old computer is no longer available). I cancelled out of the update and did a transfer purchases and then backed up the iPod. I then started the iOS 6 update again. It downloaded the update and then it said "backup up iPod." At that point I left so I don't know what happened after that but it is now saying that iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. My question is this: if we let it do the restore (which is the only option), will I be able to go back into iTunes and restore from the backup that I took MANUALLY (not the backup that it did as part of the iOS 6 update)?
Thanks.
Lisa

Yes, you will be able to restore from the backup you previously made. See:

• Help my ipod is in "disk mode"

i dont know what this means and i dont know how to get out of it please help, thanks.

Reset your iPod.
See this.
How to reset the iPod.
It may take quite a few attempts and is best done connected to power.
Disk mode is just a way of enabling the iPod to be used as a hard disk.
There are certain button combinations that enable you to force the iPod into disk mode (useful if you are having problems with the iPod not being recognized by iTunes).
It seems that's what happened in your case.

• Trying to troubleshoot Firefox closing without remembering my sites. I have no Safe Mode - tried 3 methods listed in Help. What happened to Safe Mode?

This problem started last evening when I tried to close Firefox. Normally the program asks if I want it to remember the current tabs. If there are multiple copies open (or some flyer window pops up that I did not see), then I get the "you are about to close xx tabs". This usually means I have to close the odd flyer window then I can close normally.
This did not happen last evening - just got the "you are about to close xx tabs" right off. See below for steps I took.

If you haven't tried this, give it a try. It worked for me, hopefully it will work for you. In your version 3 firefox, disable all extensions, I had two plugins (doubletwist and joost, disable those if you have them). Then install firefox 5 by overwriting your version 3 firefox. It should work fine after that. I tried everything before, I gave that a last ditch shot. Oh yeah, before you install firefox 5, clear your cache of everything just to be sure.
Hopefully that helps.

• I can't get firefox page to come up unless I do it in safe mode what is wrong?

I HAVE A MICROSOFT KEYBOARD WITH A KEY WEB/HOME THAT I HAVE SETUP FOR FIREFOX AS THE DEFAULT BROWSER WHEN I PRESS THE KEY. I HAVE TWO USERS ON THIS COMPUTER, BOTH OF US HAVE FIREFOX AS THE DEFAULT BROWSER WHEN THEY PRESS THE KEY ON THEIR SIDE, FIREFOX COMES UP BUT ON MY SIDE IT DOESN'T. I CAN GO TO WINDOWS TASK MANAGER AND IT SHOWS FIREFOX RUNNING WITH THE CPU AS HIGH AS 97 AND MEMORY USAGE AROUND 139000K BUT THE PAGE IS NOT UP. A FEW MINUTES LATER I GET THIS WARNING MESSAGE. WARNING UNRESPONSIVE SCRIPT! A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete. SCRIPT:file:///C:/program%20files/mozilla%20firefox/components/nsextentionmamager.JS2309. this have been this way for a good while, and the only way I can get into Firefox is in safe mode. can you help?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
See:
* Troubleshooting extensions and themes
* Troubleshooting plugins
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
* Use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window to disable all extensions.
* Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.<br />
See Basic Troubleshooting&#58; Make a new profile<br />
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins"<br />
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)<br />
See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_data_to_a_new_profile_-_Firefox

• What is safe mode and how did I get it on the screen?

Hey there
I can help you with that! Safe Mode is an option the user can choose, causing the phone to start up running only the factory installed services and applications. This is commonly used for troubleshooting purposes to determine if an issue is caused by a downloaded or cached element.
To exit Safe Mode, simply power your device off and back on!
I hope this helps
Charise

hmm ... _*safe mode*_ is usually employed as a means to troubleshoot Mac OS. did you by any chance hit the "Shift" key during sartup ?
only other reference to +iTunes safe mode+ i could dig up is this rather old article: http://tech.kateva.org/2008/07/itunes-keyboard-shortcuts-safe-mode.html.

• I can not find the safe mode option

Once again, my address bar had vanished. This time, the option is still checked to display it, and turning it off and on again does nothing. The help pages suggest going into Safe Mode to fix this, but the .exe is not in my Mozilla folder. I tried searching for it using Start>Search, but got nothing.
At the same time this happened, all my buttons (default and custom) were removed from my menu bars and returned to the customise window.
What can I do please?
TIA

You're welcome

• Booting into safe mode

We have just acquired a sparcstation 4, but have not got a Sun monitor to use it with. We can't set it up because we can't see anything to set it up!!
Does anyone know a keyboard shortcut to boot into safe mode so that we can get started with it? We are going in ever decreasing circles at the moment.
Thanks for any help you can offer
spudikk

"safe mode" is peculiar to Microsoft's OS's.
From Win95 through WinME, you'd end up in 640x480 resolution, while Win2k and WinXP get you into (I think) a default 800x600 graphical resolution.
<b>The closest equivalent for a Solaris-based system would be to boot to single-user mode.</b>
But all that would accomplish is that you end up
in a command-line non-graphical environment, <u>at Sun's default screen resolution</u>.
As Michael has noted, that default is 1152x900 at a vertical refresh rate of 66Hz.
That is particularly true for a SPARCstation 4, which was discontinued in 1997.
If you interrupted POST and halted the system at OBP, you would <i>still</i> be in a 1152x900 screen mode.
Think back... mid-1990's ...
PC's were rarely configured beyond 1024x768, while Sun was already at a higher resolution.
For the near forseeable future,
you may have no recourse but to TIP into the system,
as per the sticky forum posts.
The framebuffer options for such an old system are so few,
with such a limited ability for different resolutions,
that you're likely going to need a more capable monitor, or run it remotely as a headless system.

• Successful XP SP3 install, now safe mode only after OSX disk.

Hello, I have an iMac running Leopard 10.5.8.
So yesterday, using an XP Professional Disk with Service Pack 3, I was able to install XP Using Boot Camp. I was in Windows, and was continuing with the next step of inserting the Mac OSX disk to install Boot Camp Drivers, and it was installing well until it suddenly just restarted.
Now, when I try to start Windows normally (through selecting the drive by holding option, ect.) it gets to the Windows XP loading bar then just stops after one scroll and restarts itself. I CAN get into windows XP in safe mode though.
So I can only assume that something the OSX disk installed did not work with XP SP3. When in safe mode I cannot find the Boot Camp Manager in the Control Panel so I assume it never fully installed Boot Camp onto XP (though I can successfully select both OSX and Windows at start up).
So is there a way I can uninstall any drivers that the disk installed? I know that SP3 needs to have Boot Camp 2.1, but I can't get windows to open the installer in safe mode.
Thanks
edit: Forgot to mention, no System Restores to fall back to.

Thanks, that helped me get out of safe mode.
Now though, windows still does not start normally, but if I press F8 and say "Do not restart at system failure" it does continue on into normal Windows bootup.
I have also found what is causing the issues in the boot camp install, when it gets to the RealTek Audio Driver it tries to install and causes it to crash. The boot camp on the CD says it is version 2.1.0, so I don't know exactly what's wrong there.
When I try to install the drivers manually, they all work (expept for the Realtek, which will crash it again). But after restarting, none of it seems to work, though it is displayed in the add/remove software list.
Will 2.2 fix this? I don't know if I can even install it because it doesnt seem to even have successfully installed Boot Camp into XP. Anyone know a way that I can skip the Realtek install part of the autorun of the CD? I get wireless when using autorun (up to the point of the realtek driver of course) but not when I install drivers manually.

• After disabling and starting in safe mode, the connection time is still extremely slow.

My cache empties on closing the browser and I delete history every day. Still most times, the connection time is horrible, sometimes up to 80 seconds. I run Malwarebytes and Super Anti Spyware every night. Kaspersky anti-virus runs constantly so it's up to the minute protection. This only started about 7 weeks ago and I've tried all the suggestions I could find on the web, without results.
My server is Comcast, with 50mbps and I've been very happy with them for the past 3 years. I'm at my wits end and don't know where to turn. Can anybody give me help?

Hello,
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).
If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:
* Click the menu button , click Help and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.
If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
* On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode <br>(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".
;
If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.
To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem.

Help! When I connect my iphone or ipod touch to my computer, windows recognizes my device but itunes will not. I can still see my songs, videos, and access the itunes store but my phone and itunes store have no connection so it does me no good. I have for 2 days now tried every trouble shooting method posted with no luck. I think I may have finally found a lead. My Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is showing up under portable mobile devices while it is supposed to be showing up under universal serial Bus controllers from my understanding? Also, while running my diagnostic report under itunes it also says itunes is not running in safe mode, it is not showing enabled in windows firewall (which it is checked), and the HDCP is not supported. I don't know what to do? I am in tears here, someone please help!!!
