HELP my kid stuck in iMac install disc in pre-Intel Mini...frozen!

My kids inserted the iMac Intel OSX.4 disc into my mini and began install! Now the thing is giving me an error message and I cannot eject disc or start it!
Anyone know how to get a disc out when the OS isn't booting? The DVD is not compatible since it's a first generation Power PC Mini.
Thanks!

Restart the computer with the Option, Command, O, and F keys held down; next, issue the following commands:
eject cd
mac-boot

  • Can I use my iMac Install Disc on Macbook Pro?

Hi, all.  I was given a friend's old Macbook Pro and I'd like to put Boot Camp on it, but the Boot Camp instructions say I need an OSX Leopard install disc to do it.  Naturally, I just recently purged my own software binder and threw away all of my OSX discs except the one that came with iMac I recently purchased.  "Why would I need them any more?" said I.  Doh.
I have no idea what cat Apple is up to now, but the Macbook is running 10.5.8 and the install disc from my iMac is 10.6.7.  My questions:
    1) Can I use my iMac install disc on my Macbook Pro, which is about 3-4 years old?
    2) Does OS 10.6.7 qualify as Leopard?  If not, will it work for what I'm trying to do?
    3) Do I need to update the Macbook OS to 10.6.7 to be able to use that disc for the Boot Camp install?
Any information or advice would be appreciated.  Thanks!

The only thing I'd add to this is that at one point in time you could go to an Apple store and purchase Lion on a USB stick.
If your MBP was compatible and you could find one of those you could boot to it, install from it then setup bootcamp.
Also if you are thinking bootcamp, also consider VMWare Fusion or Parallels which allow you to run Windows while still in OS X.

  • Intel iMac install disc versions

I have a big favor to ask of all you forum members. I have install media from different intel iMacs that I need to distinguish from one another. As far as I know, the discs from a 17" iMac with integrated graphics will not work on a 17" iMac with Radeon X1600 graphics, nor will they work across the Core Duo to Core 2 Duo bump. I'm looking for the AHT and any other distinguishing information from these discs so I know which iMac they belong to. Here's what I know so far:
17" Core Duo w/ integrated graphics:
    • AHT version 3A108, Disc version 1.0, MacOS 10.4.7
    17" & 20" Core Duo w/ Radeon X1600 graphics
    • AHT version 3A100, Disc version 1.1, MacOS 10.4.4
All other models I do not know. Can those of you with other models post your install disc versions? I'm looking for all the intel iMac version from when they were released (though I believe I have the first generation above) through the iMacs available right now, as we have all kinds on our campus. Please include the disc 2 version (the 2Z691-xxxx-x number) as well.
Thank you to everyone who can contribute!
    17" Intel iMac Mac OS X (10.4.9)
    17" Intel iMac Mac OS X (10.4.9)
    17" Intel iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Unfortunately I can't give any detailed information since I only have the original iMac CD (disk version 1.0) but until others chime in, here's some information that might be helpful.
AFAIK, it should be possible for the latest version of the OS/Install to work across all iMacs but not the reverse (my original DVD will not boot one that requires a more recent version of the OS or the newer C2D architecture). That being said, each install media set should have the OS version appearing on the disc. You may be able to deduce (or narrow it down) by comparing the OS version and the time the specific iMac model was released. The more recent the Mac revision, the more recent the OS (or at least that is usually the case).
    10.4.4 January 10,2006
    10.4.5 February 14, 2006
    10.4.6 April 3, 2006
    10.4.7 June 27, 2006
    10.4.8 September 29, 2006
    10.4.9 March 13, 2007
The Core Duo iMac debuted in January 2006 and should have (initially) come with 10.4.4.
The Core 2 Duos debuts (I believe) in September of 2006 and likely shipped with 10.4.7 (or 10.4.8 although the first one is more likely).
Not much help, I know, but it's a start.

  • Can I install Ilife 8 onto my macbook from my new iMac install discs?

    I am confused!
I was in an Apple retails store yesterday checking out the new iMacs as I will shortly be buying one, a 24" 2.8Ghz model. As this will come loaded with Leopard and iLife 08 I was also planning on buying the DVD's of both ready to install on my Macbook so that both computers would be running the same versions of the OS and iLife. However, the salesperson I was discussing this with told me that I would be able to install iLife 08 onto my Macbook from the install disc that comes with my new iMac as the software is licenced to the user not the machine, thereby saving me from having to buy it.
Is this true? And what about Leopard?I always thought that the software discs only worked on one machine, i.e. the one it came with.

Here's a link to the Apple user agreement for iLife 08.
    http://images.apple.com/legal/sla/docs/ilife08.pdf
Item 2 states that you may install iLife on ONE Apple Branded Computer. The family pack allows you to install on up to 5 in the same household.
The discs that come with your new iMac are specific to the iMac and should not be installed onto any other Mac. The retail version of Leopard can be installed on any Mac...but once again one license one machine.

  • I've forgotten my administrator password and have lost the original install disc for my macbook but I do have the install disc for my imac; can I use the imac install disc to reset the administrator password?

I've forgotten my administrator password for my macbook pro and don't have the original OS X disc; I do have the OS X disc for my iMac.  Can I use this to reset the password?

You have nothing to loose by trying it.
I doubt it will boot but try it anyhow.
You will need to contact Apple for replacement install disks.

  • IMac Install Discs And Remote Control ?

    I have just purchased a 24" 2.8 GHz iMac.
    1. The 2 double layer install DVDs appear to be just that .......... are they iMac specific or just normal Leopard installation discs ?
    2. Have they stopped using magnets to hold the remote control on the computer ?

    they are iMac specific
Yes, no more holding magnets stopped that when they went alu...
if you don't have it at too much o an angel you can rest it on top.. they should have given an alu remote to match it though. that might b why it doesn't stick any more you have to hide the un-matching remote lol

  • Intel Imac install disc

Hi, can i use my Leopard disc that use to install on my PPC for my Intel Imac? Because I put it in but it's not booting into it yet, its been about 15min..

If you have a retail Leopard installer then it will work on either PPC or Intel Macs, but installing on more than one computer at a time violates the software license agreement and is, therefore, illegal.
If you are trying to use a gray-labeled disc that came with a new computer then it will only work on the computer with which it came. The software license issue is still valid.

  • Really need help! with macbook OS X install disc 2

How can I uninstall Mac OS X? because i need an disc 2, which i haven't got and it's the old macbook. Is there any way that i can stop the install? or buy the disc 2? i can't click on anything until i have that disc 2.
If any of you have the answer then please contact me.
because i really need my macbook for school soon
Thank you and god please help me.

Hold the Moyse button down to eject Disc #2 while booting up, at the same time hold the Option/alt key down to have the startup manager pop up, insertt Disc #1 & wait For Disc #1 to show as a boot choice.
That second Disc thing happens frequently, the best way around it is to do a Custom install, and eliminate enough Printer Drivers, Languages, Fonts, and Applications you don't need... then it may skip #2 altogether.

    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

  • IMAC INSTALL DISC USED FOR MAC BOOK

I have an imac - just upgraded to Lion .... I just bought a mac book running on leopard.  (refurbished one - nothing installed on it)
I have the installation dics that came with the imac (purchased it when it was running on leopard)
can I use them on the mac book to install iphoto / idvd etc?
    Thanks!

If the disks have a grey face then they are machine-specific and you can't do that.
If they are full retail copies, then you can but you need iLife'11 for Lion.

  • Help!  kids stuck cards in cd slot

My boys stuck those stupid fake credit cards we all get in the mail into my cd rom slot. I've pulled out all that I can, but now the machine whines when it's turned on and will no longer recognize cd's. Is there any hope for the machine? (Everything else on the old mac works great.)

Take it apart and remove the cards.
There are some take apart guides online, including this one with the Apple tech repair manual.

Getting as far as the CDROM drive should not be too difficult.

  • How can I get Tiger to install (boot) on 2007 Intel Mini ?

    {continued from deleted thread]
Just bought brand new MB138LLA (labeled mid-2007) last week ('full warranty", (allegedly) "dual bootable")
Was purchased solely to be able to dual boot - either in Tiger or Leopard
Supposedly this model is capable of booting in 10.4.10 - IF had (received) the correct install disk.
Came with 2 install disks for 10.5.4 (2008)
    w/ 10.5.4 pre-installed (updated online to 10.5.7 as of 8/3/09)
    Disk 1 is labeled
    AHT version 3A152
    Disk version 1.1
    27691-6304-A
    Disk 2 labeled
    disk version 1.0
    2Z691-6249-A
Neither will launch/load from C-Boot, but does appear after 'normal' boot
I do not see any copy/memtion of Tiger (10.4.10) in the optional installation folder
How can I install Tiger on this 2007-model machine?
Is there a ANY version of Tiger (10.4.10 I'm told) that I can get to install on this machine
    (then update online later)
    per
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx10411updateintel.html
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx10411comboupdateintel.html

Just talked with Apple Support - AGAIN
Finally got some one who understood that this particular model WAS supposed to ship with 10.4.10 (as I had determined PRIOR to the selection/purchase). Not only are they sending a CPU (serial number) specific install set for 10.4.10 but volutarially included expedited shipping at no charge (I didn't ask, suppose their way of an apology for the past week of nightmares and BOGUS information). Now that's the Apple "Support" I recall from decades past.
SO, YES, I can (and will) boot from Tiger on this CPU - and can do so either from an Internal drive partition or from GTP format Firewire RAID array.
All those claiming that such a feat is an impossibly have not researched the specifics of this model thoroughly.
Problem solved (in theory, waiting on disks)

  • RAM error beep when trying to boot install disc

I'm trying to re-install OSX in order to get a clean system and upgrade the OS. However, if I try to boot from the OSX Leopard install disc, I get the three RAM error beeps. I bought new compatible RAM (2x2GB SODIMM), tried with one of the old banks, then the other, in both available slots, then the new RAM - nothing helps: Booting the system with no install disc inserted works fine, having it inserted results in the beeps. It doesn't matter if I try straight boot, pressing C, using rEFIt or going for the device's own pre-boot OS selection menu, nothing helps.
I had the screen replaced on warranty a couple weeks ago, but I do not assume that poses a problem. Can anyone help?
    Thanks!

Why do you have rEFIt installed?
To be able to multi-boot OSX, Win7, and Ubuntu.
What is your machine and what OS X does it have?
Early 2011 MacBook Pro 15" non-glare screen. 4GB stock RAM.
    What's on the disk 10.5 or 10.6?
The disk is Leopard, as far as I can remember. I believe I got Snow Leopard over the App store.
Have you cleaned the disk, use another?
I don't exactly have another disc ... but I tried to image them to a SD card and that gave the same results.
What are you trying to do exactly?
Completely wipe the drive (low-level) to be able to sell the device.

  • Lost install disc, System requires re-install.  Now what?

I run cs2 and recently got a reinstall dialog box popping up.
I can no longer navigate the help or updates function.
My install disc has been lost in the process of several moves.
How or can I attain a new disc?

You would have to contact Adobe. You will have to provide proof of purchase, unless you had registered with your install and they have that on record. I am not sure they provide disks back to CS2, but it is all I know to try. You may be out of luck if you did not register or they no longer have disks for CS2.
