Help my mac doesn't support powerpc applications.

As a result, I can't get the easy install box to come up so I can get my pixma pro 9000 printer up and operational. Any help will be appreciated.

  • Lion doesn't support PowerPC applications?

My purchased Microsoft Office 2004 applications don't work with OS X Lion anymore. When I start one of the application up I get the message "You can't open the application Microsoft ..... because PowerPC applications are no longer supported". Any other user who suffer from the same problem?

before the fanboys chime in to tell you that you should have known that upfront because it was discussed in certain channels: no, rosetta is not implemented in lion anymore, powerpc support is dropped. all you can do is go back to snow leopard.
You can also upgrade your software to make it work with Lion

No. PowerPC apps will not run on Mac OS X Lion. There is no way to get around it.

Logic 8 will probably run on your new machine but the installation program contains some older PPC code for pre Intel Macs. This was not a problem as all OSX versions contained the "Rosetta" PPC emulation, that is, up until Lion when all PPC emulation was dropped.
There are ways to do this however, try searching Google for:  Installing Logic 8 under Lion or Mountain Lion.

  • Adobe After Effects CS4 doesn't support PowerPC architecture CPU

As installation of CS4 Master Collection, I notice that there are some applications missing. After Effects as well as a bunch of other applications have the warning "This product does not support PowerPC architecture CPU". This is not good since its really the only piece of software I need.
Here are the specs on my computer:
    processor 4 x 2.5 GHz PowerPC G5
    Memory 16 GB DDR2 SDRAM
    Mac OS X version 10.5.4
I spent quite a bit of money on this computer and putting memory into it. Is there nothing I can do? Some sort of inexpensive component I can change or add in order for After Effects to work? Thanks.

Just kind of crummy that since it comes in a bundle, as an option, that the bundle itself doesn't carry some kind of warning or wording about System Requirements.
Well the CS3 Production Premium box does have a warning, so I would presume that the CS4 box does as well. CS3's box says "System Requirements: Multicore Intel processor (Adobe Photoshop Extended, Illustrator, Flash Professional, and After Effects Professional are universal binary and also work on a PowerPC G4 or G5 processor)." So, right there you can tell that Premiere, Soundbooth and Encore don't run on PowerPC in CS3.
I can imagine this happening to other G5 and earlier users.
Why is that? G5 PowerPC code runs on any G5 - so unless you're going to limit it based on CPU clock speed, the earliest G5s wouldn't be giving up anything to the newer ones except for overall speed, obviously.
Doubt it will be in the next upgrade.
I'd agree. At that point, even the newest G5s will be about 5 years old, and it's clear that Adobe is moving towards Intel only support rather quickly.
I wonder if Adobe is allowing customers to pick and choose what versions are in a bundle for the same discount. Swapping new for old, maybe.
Won't happen. Adobe's upgrade policies aren't very generous. Not only are the costs rather steep, but if you're upgrading from the standalone versions to the suite, your upgrade price is based on you owning one of the apps that's part of the suite in the new version. You get no extra credit even if you have all of the suite's apps as standalone versions (e.g. if you have AE, Illustrator, PS, and Flash, it's the same upgrade price as it is if you only owned PS).

  • Can't open Tomtom download as it doesn't support PowerPC any longer?

Have just been trying to download my TOMTOM onto new Mac Book Air and it won't open and install the download as the message says it doesn't support the PowerPC applications are no longer supported. Any ideas?

Hmm... where are you downloading it from?  The latest version should run on Lion:

Back to Snow Leopard from Lion install method
Read and print out these instructions, your computer is going to be offline and you wil be cutoff from help until your machine is restored.
Clear the Desktop, Downloads and Trash of anything you wish to keep by placing their files in the respective Documents, Music, Pictures, Movie folders.
If you have a TimeMachine drive, update it and disconnect for the duration of this restore time. It will be your second backup system and will have to be wiped and setup again after successfully going back to Snow Leopard if it was connected to the OS X 10.7 boot drive. If it wasn't, then leave it disconnected without updating to Lion. (note: I'm not a TimeMachine user, so I don't know how to restore 10.6 from this medium)
Backup ALL your Users folders (Documents, Pictures, Movies, Music etc) manually (drag and drop methods) to a (not TimeMachine) external powered drive (HFS+ journaled formatted in Disk Utility) and disconnect, your going to be wiping the entire disk of ALL DATA. (warning, everything will be gone and not recovered, OS, programs, files, Windows etc all gone.)
    Here we go!
Hold c and boot off the 10.6 installer disk that comes with your computer and second screen in just STOP.
Look at the Utilities Menu for Disk Utility.
On the left is the name of your hard drive maker, click it and Erase (format HFS+ Journaled), give it the same name as before, and click Erase...
This should wipe the drive of ALL partitions (GUID, OS X and 10.7 Recovery, Windows if present)
When it's done, quit and install OS X 10.6. Then install all your programs from fresh sources and validate/update.
When you setup a first account, use the same user name as before, this way you can simply drag and drop the content of your previous Users folders from the external drive right back into the new Users folders and everything should work peachy. Links in iTunes to music, playlists and iPhoto links especially.
Update OS X to 10.6.8 using the Combo Update for best results.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
(Note: If your original machine had 10.5 and you want the free iLife that comes with the disks with the computer, then you'll have to install 10.5 first using the same c boot/erase/format methods as above, then update to 10.6 via the disk, then Combo Update 10.6.8)
Final step optional but highly receommended.
A lot of people use a Carbon Copy Clone of their boot drive to a HFS+Journaled external drive as a "hold the option key" bootable backup in case something goes wrong with their boot drive or need to restore to a previous OS X version..  (in addition to TimeMachine drive for more immediate backups.)
It's not advised to have a Bootable Clone and a TimeMachine partition on the same external drive, as two drives gives hardware protection in case one fails.

  • Pls help! Can Oracle v7 support WebSphere Application Server instead of Oracle 8i

    Hi,
I am using WebSphere as my application server and NT4.0 as OS.
I wish to connect to Oracle db which is located at another server.
Currently what I have is Oracle Client Software v7.3.4. There is error when I want to start the service.
So I suspect that it is not compatible and it might require Oracle 8i in web environmt and to support WebSphere Application Server as well.
Can anybody help me? Thank you.

    Hello,
I guess you could get that to work as somebody was able to use WebLogic as webserver: http://christopherbeck.wordpress.com/2008/09/15/weblogic-server-and-apex/
Alternatively you could use the Embedded PLSQL Gateway if you don't want to install Apache (depending database version you are on).

  • I have some unfinished projects in an old iMovie format. How can I finish them using the new iMovie? When I open them it says it doesn't support powerPC format

I have some unfinished project in an old iMovie format. If I try to import them to the new iMovie to finish them it says I can't because it does not support powerPC formats. How can I save them???

Right click on the icon and choose "Show Package Contents".
Drill down through the folders to find your original source clips (probably .dv files). Drag them to a new Desktop folder to import them into iMovie.

Not necessarily the best solution for gaming, but it may work with Sims 2:
Consider installing Snow Leopard (with Rosetta) into Parallels 7 in Lion:

  • Download Helper on Mac error - Conversion requires external application??

    Hey guys,
I'm looking for some help with the Download Manager extension on Mac for the Firefox internet browser... When I attempt to use Download Manager, I get a pop up error that states:
Conversion requires an external application that appears to be missing on your system.
Configure conversion? > Cancel > OK
When I select OK, it opens the Preferences for Download Manager, highlighting in red the location path for the selected converter option, which is either:
    FFMpeg
    or
    MEncoder
The path in the field next to the drop down selector for the above 2 options is highlighted in red... I'm assuming that means it's invalid?
I'm not sure why this happened or what changed, because when I originally installed the Download Helper, it worked fine... I attempted to use it today and now it won't work.
I'd appreciate any help you can offer! Thanks!

Hey, I had the same problem and just solved it. Your path to the console video converter is incorrect or you don't have any of the two convectors program is looking for.
Solutions: if you have one of these converters just type in the path. Tip: you can find you their path by typing it in spotlight or try write: "which aaa" in console line, where aaa is "meencoder" or "ffmpeg", that should return the path where they are located. If it doesn't then might that they are installed on your machine.
Installing ffmpeg: download source file from this link: http://www.ffmpeg.org/releases/ffmpeg-0.5.tar.bz2 then open command line and write : cd and the absolute path to the file for example "cd /use/john/Desktop/ffmpeg". Then type in : "./configure && make && sudo make install" in the command line to compile the ffmpeg, after process finishes you have just to specify path "/usr/local/bin/ffmpeg" in DownloadHelper.
    Hope that helps!

  • Mac Browsers for supporting HTMLDB Applications

Does anybody know what browsers on MACs can support HTMLDB Web Applications (i.e., certified)?

From what I understand HTMLDB is about 95% compliant to XHTML specification. I really don't know what Mac Browsers are "Certified" on HTMLDB, but when I create applications I test out everything about the app on all the available certified Mac browsers (IE, FireFox, Safari, Natscape). So far HTMLDB has performed wonderfully in all the browsers. You could look at various browsers and see how well they handle the XHTML specs for further information. Someone may be more definitive about your question, but this is what I know.

  • My Mac doesn't support iOS 7

Very nice of my computer to not tell me until it was installed... I just installed iOS 7 onto my 4S. I run an old Macbook (Mac OSX 10.5.8) which doesn't have iTunes 11 because it isn't compatible. I just got an error saying I can't use my iphone with my iTunes now, because it's not updated. What do I do/how do I go back to i OS 6.1.3 or whatever?

You are going to have to update the Mac OS.  Luckily 10.6 is pretty cheap http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard.  The only thing is, you must have an intel processor.
