Help my mac is not looking good at all

I know this computer could do so much better than it is and I feel as though I need to update my system to help it out, the colors look awful it is quite blurry sometimes and I can't make out words. Not good, not good at all. my questions is do I need to update to panther first or can I go right to the leopard, not quite sure which one would be best for me to do to get the best out of my computer.

Okay first of all I would love to say thank you to all of you who responded I have run the apple test cd and the hard drive is fine, I have fiddled around with the display on this quite a few times, gone into every program that would tell me issues, and checked every setting to make sure it is where it should be. Nothing, the hardware is fine and all of the settings are where they should be, so I can only assume it is a software issue. I have erractic mouse movement and it will just quit things unexpectedly like the net, or games that we WERE playing. I have since deleted all of the unecessary stuff off of the computer in hopes to free up some RAM, still did nothing. As far as the colors go it is really weird because only parts of the picture will be blurry where as the rest is fine, hmmmm very interesting, the LCD part is fine, but the rest is not. Is thier some sort of test I can run on this to find out if it is a software issue or should I just go through mac support, learn how to back up all of my files and restore all the software?

Motion Project does not look good in FCP

I am using FCP 5.0 and Motion2. I made a lower third title graphic in Motion. When I embed the clips back into FCP they look pixalated. They do not look as good as they did originally. Does anyone have a solution?

Here's the result from last night. The quicktime file is good. It seems that Motion projects in FCP, even from rendered QT files, don't display their true image.
My output this morning for my project is flawless. Even though the timeline looks horrible.
The reason this seems to come up in this forum again and again, is probably that Boris 3D, FCP's titles, even LiveType, all display their true clean rendered image in FCP. Motion, however, doesn't seem to do that.
My guess is that it hangs on to a thumbnail representation for FCP of the rough draught render that motion must create so you can place your motion project in your FCP timeline live. (you know, you can switch back and forth and update a motion project and it updates it in FCP. )
It just doesn't say that anywhere that I was looking.
So, if anyone else is creating Motion projects and importing them into Final Cut, be aware that what you see in Final Cut is not what is going to render in your output. It will be full resolution and without the alising that appears in FCP's timeline.

HELP! I am not very good when it comes to this kind of stuff

I own a Tungsten E2. I use it for work and have had no problem in the past with the hot sync manager. Now it appears I have no hot sync manager and even running the repair doesn't help. I have Vista not sure if 32 or 64 (I know of those only because I have been asked recently) but do not know how to find out this information. UGG! I can't change certain features that I want to change or manage the hot sync manager because apparently it does not exist. I click on it and it does nothing. I have tried re-installing but it says I already have the newest software available. What can I do?

Is the blue and red circular icon in the system tray of your pc. If not click on start/ all programs/ palm. Click on the hotsync blue and red icon in the drop down window. Iphone and Ical on mac do not sync anymore. All my events are in the iphone calendar! How do I backup iphone calendar, and how do I fix the syncronizing problem?

After getting iCloud the iCal on my mac does not sync with my iPhone calendar. All of my calendar notes are in my iPhone (while the mac's Ical remains empty) so I need to backup the iphone version. How?
Itunes says that "your calendars are being syncronized with iphone using icloud" - but the mac's ical does not show any of the new events I have added on my iphone.
I would like to install the new update on my iphone, but I am afraid to do it without knowing that I will be able to restore my iphone calendar. I have made calendar events for many years to come, I and will not risk losing them!
I have been looking for tips online, but the solutions usually suggest that I backup the ical on the mac and start fresh using this version. In other words overwrite iphone calendar with the ical from the mac. Which is not an option. What can I do?

Moments in Photos are the new Events, i.e. groupings of photos sorted by date taken.
When the iPhoto Library was first migrated to Photos there was a folder created in the sidebar titled iPhoto Events and all migrated iPhoto Events (which are now Moments) are represented by an album in that folder. To open the sidebar if it's not already open use the Option+Command+S key combination.
There's a way to simulate events in Photos.
When new photos are imported into the Photos library go to the Last Import smart album, select all the photos and use the File ➙ New Album menu option or use the key combination Command+N. Name it as desired. It will appear just above the iPhoto Events folder where you can drag it into the iPhoto Events folder
When you click on the iPhoto Events folder you'll get a simulated iPhoto Events window.
The downside to the simulation is that the Albums/Events can only be sorted automatically by Title. But they can also be sorted manually, either in the sidebar or in the folder's window at the right.

Help with Importing psd's, looks good in viewer, but not in canvas...

I have been searching for threads related to this issue, and this is what i've come up with...
It is my sequence settings, the picture looks great in the viewer but not in the canvas, as soon as i put it in the timeline, it goes blurry almost. I tried changing my settings to HD 16:9 and the picture looks great, but I need standard (NTSC DV 4:3), does anyone know a way around this? I can do it in Avid fine, why am I having such a hard time in FCP?

P.S i have tried changing my image size in photoshop to 720x480 and 720x540 and it doesn't seem to make a difference.

Shane's Stock Answer #49 - Why is the quality different between what I see in the Viewer and what I see in the Canvas?
Well... the viewer is just that-- a viewer. It will display anything that fcp will recognize as usable video or graphics. The canvas is a viewer too, but at the pixel dimension specified by the settings of your project and sequence.
For example, if your graphic or footage is much higher resolution than your 720x480 DV sequence, FCP is interpolating down your file to fit the settings of the sequence. Usually this makes it look not so hot. DV is a 5:1 compression working with a 4:1:1 color depth. Your pristine picture images and graphics are being crushed.
Same with picture files. HIgh res pics now adopt the sequence settings and will render to those specs, and most likely they are not as high quality.
So, based on your answer, I made an HDV sequence, dropped my DVCPro50-NTSC footage and my tiffs into the sequence and now the stills look great. Is this an okay workaround or do you have another suggestion? I'm worried about this HD sequence taking too long to make a compressed QT from in the end.

Photo JPEG is a good option. But this all depends on what your final output will be. If you are going to make a DVD, then that is SD, so using an HD sequence setting makes no sense. Photo JPEG is good, but not realtime in FCP. DV50 or ProRes NTSC are good options.
Unless you are making an HD master...in which case ProRes 422 for HD is good

Need help with Mac & PC not recognizing external drive (disk not readable)

I am having trouble getting my computer(s) to recognize my Seagate External Drive.
Have tried on my MacBook, iMac, 2 Mini's & my roommate's PC and all reveal the same issue: The Disk you inserted was not readable by this computer.
MacBook/iMac both are working off of Leopard
Both Mini's are on Tiger
It won't show up in finder, rendering it unobtainable. I need to get the information if at all possible off of this hard drive (very important!!) so any help I can get would be greatly appreciated!

Getting mac min to look good on Sony Wega 30" HDTV CRT (KV-30HS420

Got a new mac mini (Intel 1.83 GHz) and am hooking it up to a Sony Wega 30" HDTV CRT (model no. KV-30HS420) using an DVI to HDMI cable. No problems selecting input and getting an image, but at 1280 x 720 the desktop looks horrible. Turning off "overlace" gets all of my desktop back in view, but everything is blurry and it is simply not acceptable for my 78 year old father.
Is it simply not possible to get a descent image on this set? Should I just opt for buying him a wide screen flat panel display?

Unfortunately a CRT-based HDTV is never going to look very good when used as a computer monitor. You will probably need to get a nice LCD TV for your father.
How far away will he sit from the TV? Even if the screen were clear, as it will be with an LCD, there are still limits to what can be seen when you are too far away. Keep that in mind.

IWeb not looking good on Internet Explorer

My site, www.bargelachouette.com has sat well on mac and in Windows IE for a couple of years, except for a small glitch on IE which I was prepared to accept. A few days ago I upgraded to IE8 on the Windows virtual machine of Parallels. The site is totally unacceptable in IE now, with illegible text covering photos which should not be there (The reflection at the bottom of the photo in the<white> <welcome> template I use is now the whole photo replicated below the original photo . Can anyone tell me why this is happening and what I should do to rectify it....please.

Don't know Bob, but it looks like IE bit you.
I see what you're talking about.
I view it in Firefox and it looks fine.
Not sure what you might be able to do, but hopefully someone will have a thought.

You might try turning off the reflections.
Looks like that where the problem areas are.
Look like IE is not displaying it as a reflection, but a second picture.

Text not looking good

Hi I have just done some credits in motion which I have used in Final cut using the scroll behaviour but the letters look as if they had glitter,they sometimes flash slightly.
I have used white letters against a black background and the only thing that i have altered is the rate of the scroll to 30%
Any suggestions on how to get rid of the glitter effect??

As you say the scrolling text in motion distorts giving a flashing effect.
I have copied and pasted the text from motion into livetype and of what I can see the problem is solved so thanks a million.
The problem which I have right now is that since its my first time using live type I have the problem that I dont get the whole text scrolling until end.Instead the text freezes half way through.
I have looked through the help and manual topics but cant find anything.
I suppose it has somethhing to do with the timing but cant figure it out.
I would like the text to appear from below the screen and dissapear at the top of the screen just like the end credits of movies.
Can anyone help??

Just open up the box to my new MacBook Pro. Have gone through Assistant Setup. The Mac is asking for a password. Assistant Setup did not ask for a password to be setup. I cannot get into the computer as its requires a password that I did not set up? Why it is doing this I have no idea. I tried my Apple ID password, no luck. Any other options?

V29 is not looking good guys , can I have the link to V28 to reinstall

I, like many others, are so disappointed with the look and feel of the new interface in V29. I have tried it for a few days now and it is just not working for me. Sure it is "customizable" but I just want a sandard browser that just works as a browser without making some ridiculous style statement.
Mozilla, get back to the drawing board and give us the Browser we deserve. We want Firefox not ChromeFox. Until then I'm after a link to V28.exe any assistance gratefully received....

Please help, my mac is not remembering it's settings for Mail, ichat, deskt

My imac is not remembering any settings. this started happening nearly 3-4 days ago. I'm having to start fresh almost as if I hadn't entered any information into Mail, ichat, desktop dock. Accounts aren't recognized, I don't know what to do other than I've repaired permissions and verified them. I've repaired keychains as I was instructed to do on earlier posts. it's still happening. should i reinsert my leopard cd and install a newer version of Leopard to overwrite this current version? This is very strange. I've never had this happen before. Any previous changes I would make were always saved. Oh and ichat erased my jabber account, I need to reenter all my account info despite ichat already checked off to remember my account status under it's preferences.

First, Try using Disk Utility to do a Disk Repair, as shown in this link, while booted up on your install disk.
You could have some directory corruption. Let us know what errors Disk Utility reports and if DU was able to repair them.
