HELP! My Mac os x does not recognize Cd's or Dvd's!

My Mac OS X is not recognizing CD's or DVD's! Every time I try to insert a cd or dvd, the computer just spits it back out!
I've tried looking through different forums, but no one seems to have the answer!
Does anyone else have this problem? If so, how do you fix it?

You could try resetting the SMC and PRAM that sometimes helps in situations like this.
You don't mention what your system is or if this is happening with both blank and written disks so it's difficult to give much more information.
Of course the most likely reason for the problem is a hardware fault. Is your system still under warranty or do you have Apple Care? If so taking it in for service is the best bet.

  • My Mac Book Pro does not recognize the presence of a DVD or CD

Ever since I upgraded my MacBook Pro, it does not recognize a DVD or CD of any type when I put it in. I have a store bought DVD, the Social Network, which worked fine before upgrading to OSX operating system. Music CD's were okay then, too. Now, neither is even recognized by the player. Thought maybe it needed to be reloaded, but na't figure out how to do that. This is very frustrating, and makes me start to second guess my decision to switch to an Apple product. I've only hd this computer about 18 months, did the upgrade last September (?) and have had difficulties ever since. HELP me please!!!

    Use Apple Hardware Test
Open the Help Viewer’s Action pop-up menu (looks like a gear) and choose Print to print these instructions.
Disconnect all external devices except the keyboard, mouse, display, and speakers. If you have an Ethernet cable or external DVD drive, disconnect them.
Restart your computer, holding down the D key while the computer restarts. After your computer restarts, you should see the Apple Hardware Test chooser screen. If you don’t, Apple Hardware Test may not be available on your computer. You may be able to start Apple Hardware Test from the Internet. Reconnect your computer to the network, and then restart your computer while holding down both the Option and D keys.

  • Mac Pro Hexacore does not recognize new drive

I have just received my new 2 TB Seagate constellation drive and the mac pro hexacore running OS X 10.6.7 does not recognize it.  From touching the drive it is warm and feels like it is running but nothing shows up on the desktop and Disc utility does not see it at all.  Since this is the highest quality drive with a 139 year MTBF it seems infinitely more likely that something is not right in the mac than in the drive.  In the past adding new drives has been simple enough but this one is not even showing up.  Ideas?

Actually I had ordered 2 of these drives and at first I thought it was an Apple problem but I put the second drive in and it worked perfectly, so the first drive must have been DOA.  Thanks for the reply.  I just wanted to make sure I had not forgotten to do something to make the drie be recognized.
    Thanks
    George

  • After downloading lion does not recognize blank discs or dvd´s cannot burn anything

I downloaded Lion and now my mac does not recognize any blank cd or dvd and I cannot burn anything, not with Toast 10, or with iDvd still not recognized.  Can someone help me??

    Hello
I have been trying to fix a similar issue on my wife's PowerBookG4. I cannot pin point when it started, but she noticed it a couple weeks ago when she tried burning a disc. We have come to discover that her drive will no longer mount any discs at all (blank or otherwise burned discs or software). If I had to make a guess it had to have started in the last month or so after some recent update. Maybe 10.5.2? I am not sure.
I am getting extremely frustrated with Apple though on this matter because I have been browsing multiple forums and seeing this exact issue over and over again and nobody seems to have a solution or correct diagnostic for it.
I have tried zapping PRAM, I have tried many types of discs, brands, etc. and nothing works. I know this is a Software issue, it has to be. There are a LOT of people reporting this issue. If necessary I will start linking to all the different posts that I found in the last few days.
Please post some help, ASAP. This has been a major inconvenience and I cannot believe that Apple hasn't discovered the problem with how many people have been reporting it.
    Thanks

  • Photoshop CC on a Mac running Mavericks does not recognize Epson 3880

This is my first post to this forum so I hope that I am following protocol and presenting my issue clearly.
I am running Photoshop CC (on a Mac Retina with an Epson 3880). It has worked fine for months but it crashed twice yesterday while I was in print mode as I was playing with configurations – switching from Epson to Adobe and playing with color management. (I have an Epson 3880.) Now when I open a file and click File/Print or File/Print One Copy, the printer selection menu does not appear and instead I get a message "There was an error opening your printer. Printing functions will not be available until you have selected a printer and reopened any documents." After that the print and print one copy commands are greyed out on the File dropdown menu for that image file, but if I open another, the print function appears to be available but the same thing happens
I have downloaded the latest printer driver from Epson, deleted the printer from System Preferences, installed it again and rebooted. I have done all this twice to no avail. (The OS, the printer drivers and Photoshop CC are all up to date.)
I can use the print command from Lightroom 5 but not from Photoshop CC.
How can I reset Photoshop’s print function to recognize the printer?

Epson has had a LOT of problems with drivers on MacOS 10.9.
Contact Epson for driver updates that work correctly on MacOS 10.9.

  • Can't upgrade iMac to Yosemite "because Mac OS X does not recognize internet addresses starting with "macappstores"

    Please help! What is wrong?

You are probably going to want to upgrade your memory (RAM). While 2 GB is the stated minimum, realistically 4 GB seems to be the consensus minimum. More is better.
The 2 places I’ve seen recommended most to buy reliable RAM are below. I have purchased RAM several times from Other World Computing and have always been very satisfied with the product and service. They have on-line instructions on how to replace the RAM. OWC has also tested RAM above what Apple states is the maximum. I now have 6GB installed on a machine supposedly limited to 4 GB.

  • Satellite M40: Sonic RecordNow does not recognize Mat****a CD/DVD drive

    Hello,
I have a satellite M40. The sonic recordnow (version 7.31) software cannot found cd/dvd recorder.
I check in the support from toshiba and found a new update for Mat****a dvdram UJ 841S. So I downloaded it. But when I run it, an error message appears: "the target drive is not connected". How can I fix it ?
The thng is my cd/dvd drive is working ok: i can read videos and music cd. I can burn dvd with dvdx soft. Bu I want to fix sonic.
    Thank uou for your help.
    nat

    Hi
The firmware update will NOT fix the sonic issue!!!
The firmware has nothing to do with this problem the firmware contains details and further informations about supported and compatible CDs/DVDs.
I presume some registry keys or sonic files are corrupt and therefore the drive cannot be recognized correctly by Sonic software.
I would recommend reinstalling the Sonic software!!!
But why you dont use the Nero burning program? In my opinion its the best burning software. I use it too and Im very happy!!!
    You should try it

  • Mac OS X does not recognize the increased capacity of the Xserve Raid

The Xserve raid recognizes the increased capacity of 4.09TB per controller however. When the arrays are opened in Disk Utilty on the Mac Pro it shows 2TB and 1.4 for the other. When creating the arrays I originally had four 750GB for the top and three 750GB for the bottom controller.
I have followed through with expanding the array's then merging the slices for adding additional HDD's as detailed in Apple support.
Am I doing something wrong? Please help.
    Tony

Yes rebooted nothing unfortunately. I think I've solved it though, was reading somewhere you basically need to start again. So I've deleted the array added the extra HDD's to the new 2nd array and I'll see if it's worked 50 hrs from now. Really wish apple would come clean about the capabilities of their hardware.

  • Help My mac book pro does not start

i have a huge problem becauce i cannot start my mac book pro, i turn on and apear the gray screen with apple logo and round progresive bar, but just not have any change it cud be hours or days its the same, i already try to restore it by the comands (command+R)  or (shift+caps lock) when i turn on my computher but alwais same logo screen, please i need help maby im doing someting wrong

Take each of these steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
The first step in dealing with a boot failure is to secure your data. If you want to preserve the contents of the startup drive, and you don't already have at least one current backup, you must try to back up now, before you do anything else. It may or may not be possible. If you don't care about the data that has changed since your last backup, you can skip this step.
There are several ways to back up a Mac that is unable to boot. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.
         a. Boot into the Recovery partition, or from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup.) When the OS X Utilities screen appears, launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in this support article, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.”
    b. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, boot the non-working Mac in target disk mode. Use the working Mac to copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
    c. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.
    Step 2
Press and hold the power button until the power shuts off. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed to boot, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Use a different keyboard and/or mouse, if those devices are wired. If you can boot now, one of the devices you disconnected, or a combination of them, is causing the problem. Finding out which one is a process of elimination.
If you've booted from an external storage device, make sure that your internal boot volume is selected in the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences.
    Step 3
Boot in safe mode. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
When you boot in safe mode, it's normal to see a dark gray progress bar on a light gray background. If the progress bar gets stuck for more than a few minutes, or if the system shuts down automatically while the progress bar is displayed, your boot volume is corrupt and the drive is probably malfunctioning. In that case, go to Step 5.
If you can boot and log in now, empty the Trash, and then open the Finder Info window on your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) Check that you have at least 9 GB of available space, as shown in the window. If you don't, copy as many files as necessary to another volume (not another folder on the same volume) and delete the originals. Deletion isn't complete until you empty the Trash again. Do this until the available space is more than 9 GB. Then reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)
If the boot process hangs again, the problem is likely caused by a third-party system modification that you installed. Post for further instructions.
    Step 4
Sometimes a boot failure can be resolved by resetting the NVRAM.
    Step 5
Launch Disk Utility in Recovery mode (see Step 1.) Select your startup volume, then run Repair Disk. If any problems are found, repeat until clear. If Disk Utility reports that the volume can't be repaired, the drive has malfunctioned and should be replaced. You might choose to tolerate one such malfunction in the life of the drive. In that case, erase the volume and restore from a backup. If the same thing ever happens again, replace the drive immediately.
This is one of the rare situations in which you should also run Repair Permissions, ignoring the false warnings it may produce. Look for the line "Permissions repair complete" at the end of the output. Then reboot as usual.
    Step 6
Reinstall the OS. If your Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade.
    Step 7
Repeat Step 6, but this time erase the boot volume in Disk Utility before installing. The system should automatically reboot into the Setup Assistant. Follow the prompts to transfer your data from a Time Machine or other backup.
    Step 8
This step applies only to older Macs (not current models) that have a logic-board ("PRAM") battery. Both desktop and portable Macs used to have such a battery. The logic-board battery is separate from the main battery of a portable. A dead logic-board battery can cause a gray screen at boot. Typically the boot failure will be preceded by loss of the startup disk and system clock settings. See the user manual for replacement instructions. You may have to take the machine to a service provider to have the battery replaced.
    Step 9
If you get this far, you're probably dealing with a hardware fault. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested. If you can't get to an Apple Store, go to another authorized service provider.
