Help! My Macbook Pro will not recognise my M-Audio Firewire 410 interface

Hi
I'm new here and fairly new to Macs having only recently bought a Macbook Pro.
My plan is to use the Macbook primarily for music but I can't get my M-Audio Firewire 410 audio interface working.
I have installed the latest Intel driver but when I plug the interface in, the Mac does not recognize it at all. I have tested the port/cables etc, and can successfully play music from an external firewire HDD chained through the Firewire 410.
How is it possible that the Mac doesn't even know the interface is there (when I click on the M-Audio software icon I get this message "No M-Audio Firewire device was found connected to this Mac") yet I can play music chained through the device?
I have tried both with, and without, the external power supply connected to the Firewire 410 and also tested it on my PC where it works as usual. And I've tried deleting and reinstalling the driver....(I thought this was PC only territory!)
Any ideas? I really want to get back into music and my past (bad) experiences with PCs drove me to the Mac...
Many thanks in advance
Macbook Pro 2.16 Core 2 Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Try v1.8.2 instead of v1.7.2 of M-Audio's driver setup.

  • Macbook Pro will not recognise WD external hardrive

    Hello,
My hard drive, which has all my time machine back ups on it, just stopped working. It was working fine last week when I last backed up, however when I plugged it in to my macbook pro today my computer would not recognise it. I am quite worried as my hard drive has all my files and photos on it.
I believe the model of my hard drive is a WD 1TB external hard drive, and it is a few years old. I have never had any problems to date.
When I tried to use disk utility though, it picked up the hard drive in there but said it needed to be repaired but would not repair it.
Can anyone tell me how I can fix this or what my next steps should be?

First see if another computer recognizes it. If not, it's possible the drive is still good and the circuit board in the drive housing has failed. That's relatively common. If that's what it is you need to get the actual drive out of the WD housing and into another external enclosure. Something like this:

  • Help! Macbook Pro will not power up!

Hello, I have a Late 2008 15" Macbook Pro and I'm having power issues. I've been back and forth with adapters over the past couple months. My original adapter was destroyed by my dog, I bought a cheap knockoff that stopped working after a month, then bought a cheap used one from a sketchy computer store on the corner which also just stopped working.
When we were last using the MBP, it ran down to about 5%, so we shut the lid and plugged it up. We didn't go back to it for a couple of days, but when we did, there was no life. No lights on the battery indicator, no lights on the adapter. So, I assumed the adapter was dead.
I ordered a new, genuine Apple adapter from OWC and it arrived today. I plugged it in, and there is no light at all on the adapter. I do, however, get a single flashing light on the battery indicator. It's been plugged in for about 10 minutes now and that's still all I have, just a single prepetually flashing indicator light.
What does this mean? I have cleaned the connectors, reset the SMC, I've searched Apple's support pages and other message boards, but I can't find anything that helps. My battery has never been replaced, so I'm really hoping that's all I need. Please tell me this $2300 Facebook machine that I'm still making payments on isn't dead!

    Ryano70,
it sounds like trying a replacement battery is worth a shot.

Help! Installing updates an error occurred now my MacBook Pro will not restart. "Unable to find driver for this platform"

Did you try more than once? If so:
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks without erasing drive
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
    Reinstall Mountain Lion or Mavericks
OS X Mavericks- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

Have you tried holding the power button down for several seconds? I would try the force quit as mentioned earlier first, or go to the Activity Monitor in Applications>Utilities and try force quit there.

  • My MacBook Pro will not eject a DVD following viewing.  Help?

My MacBook Pro will not eject a DVD following viewing.   Selecting EJECT
on the controller gives a message of "Supported Disc Not Available".   It is
in the drive and I need to get it out.   How might I proceed?   Thanks for any
    help you can provide.

Five ways to eject a stuck CD or DVD from the optical drive
Ejecting the stuck disc can usually be done in one of the following ways:
    1. Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the left mouse button until the disc ejects.
    2. Press the Eject button on your keyboard.
    3. Click on the Eject button in the menubar.
    4. Press COMMAND-E.
    5. If none of the above work try this: Open the Terminal application in your Utilities folder. At the prompt enter or paste the following:
         /usr/bin/drutil eject
If this fails then try this:
Boot the computer into single-user mode. At the prompt enter the same command as used above.
To restart the computer enter "reboot" at the prompt without quotes.

  • TS1365 My MacBook Pro will not startup.  At all.  The suggestions from Apple Support are not helping.  At all.  Someone help?!?

My MacBook Pro will not startup.  Its not responding at all.  Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can correct this?

    HI Catherine,
First, make sure it it shut down by holding down the power button for 5-10 seconds. Plug in the power adapter. Press the power button and hold down the shift key to see if you can start in Safe Mode.
If the power adapter and/or battery are known good, the next thing I'd check would be the RAM to make sure it is securely seated. If batt and/or power adapter are questionable, then you'll want to find one or both and try them out; if you don't know someone with a similar MBP, this might be most easily accomplished by making a free appointment at an Apple Store "genius" bar.
