Help!  My MacBook screen is freaking out!?

My 2-month old refurbished MacBook's screen is freaking out. A couple of days ago while I was working on it the screen went a bit blue and the whole screen began moving up & down very very fast -- the best description I can think of is that it looks like I need to adjust the hold on a tv screen. It only did that for a few seconds then the screen returned to normal. Yesterday it did the same thing 2-3 times except the screen didn't return to normal until I put it to sleep, closed up the MacBook then re-opened. This morning when I started it up the screen is already like this and won't return to normal at all. I've tried re-starting, zapping the PRAM, but no dice. I have a jpg and a video of it doing this crazy thing if it would help to see it. Any suggestions??
Thanks in advance.
Kristy

I'm not sure how to include it in the post here, but I have video & still pics of the screen. Since my original post I've had it into the Apple Store for repair 2 times (I only purchased the MacBook 4 months ago!?). The first time they replaced the display & logic board. The second time they replaced the inverter cable and display again. Each time I had no problem for a week or 10 days, then the trouble started up again. =( Any help or suggestions would be welcome.

  • My iMac screen is freaking out...help!

It's doing two different things (not usually at the same time):
    - Sometime when I move a window, like in Safari, a chunk of the window will remain behind. Or look as if it is (the chunk doesn't actually do anything). But if I move anything over that chunk, then move it away again, it's gone.
    - Sometimes the whole screen (or part of it) will go all wonky in that the text (actually everything) will disappear and there will be only scattered colors left behind. The actual functioning of the Finder is usually not affected - I could have shut the system down if I only got lucky enough to navigate blindly to the appropriate menu item.
Reinstalling the system does not help. (I have an iMac Core 2 Duo which I bought in about September of '06)
    What should I do?

Your first priority is to ensure you have complete backups of everything from the internal drive in the iMac just in case your system is dying; it could be just the graphics system or it could be more serious. Once you have your backups, either call Apple for advice, take it to a reseller to have it fixed if it seems a reasonable cost or consider upgrading to a new iMac. Shame you are a few months beyond any AppleCare warranty.

  • 13" macbook screen backlight is out

Was intermittant for a while depending on screen position. Took it to a local guy (who was really mean and scary!) he said it was the cable to the screen and so he did a temporary repair by splicing the wires. It worked for a while but now the screen is black again. Can see the screen images with a flashlight, cursor moves etc.. Is this something I can fix? I am pretty handy, can fix engines and do boat electrical work etc. and I do have tiny tools. I wont take it back to that horrible man.... Also the Isight camera has not worked for a while . Could this be related? Maybe there is a wire harness that I need to buy? Thanks

Sounds like good advice, to take or send the computer to a viable authorized and qualified portable Apple computer repairer should resolve the primary issue and also fix the hacked 'repair' that did nothing good.
One of my computers is a MacBook 13" first-model (coreduo 1.83GHz) and occasionally its display will wink and go dim then bright; sometimes on startup if the screen lid was closed, the display will stay black later on startup. So, I have been doing a little investigating; short of setting an appointment at an official Apple Store's Genius Bar, to see if they can help, I have checked with a certified authorized repair company at great distance from where I live (who does a qualified repair, checks over the entire computer, too) at a lower rate, and has parts in stock.
Since your computer has seem some hack-repair, the actual Genius bar may not be of help in troubleshooting this secondary failure. No telling what the wire-splicing event may have really done to the original problem.
At some point, I'll be sending my MacBook with its display issues, from AK to SC where it will visit the wegener media people; previous experience with them by mail had good result and so I would tend to trust their ability over that of several larger-town in AK companies who usually send portables outside anyway and then charge double in additional handling fees. Mine may cost in the $140 range to get the display wires and circuit fixed. And I won't even try looking into my portable Macs (or all-in-one desktops) anymore, even though I've owned and repaired over 150+ used Apple Macintosh computers, & gave them away to charities.
You can email or call some of the better independent authorized and certified Apple portable computer repair companies; some are better than others, but I had read around the web awhile to help me choose one. Not a nearby one where I could simply drive a few hundred miles to the closest large town, but better & via the mail.
    In any event...
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • I really need help wit macbook screen

ok so been using my macbook 4 months. and left my computer out and my cats jumped on the keyboard and some how my screen turned this really bright black and white color where theres no real colors but like only neon colors helpppppp!!!!!!!!!!! thanks

    Hi
Your cats have turned on the "White on Black" feature. Perhaps they had trouble reading the screen in normal mode? To get it back, open System Preferences, click Universal Access, then click "Black on White".
I highly recommend closing your MacBook to protect it from your feline friends in future. Or perhaps a password-protected screensaver? Unless you have super-intelligent kitties.

  • HELP!  Macbook screen white with folder with question mark

I was using facebook when the screen seized solid.  I turned off the computer and now all I get is a white screen with a grey file in the center with a white question mark in it. The first time it came up with a 'no entry'sign.  I took  the battery out but didn't help - is there a re-set button or what else can I do?

No. Definitely not. If you have an adress that you can mail it to then you can buy one here http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A?fnode=MTY1NDAzOA&mco=MTc1ODgwMjE
If you don't have a place that you can mail it to then you are best going by an apple store.

  • My iphone 4s screen turned freaked out before my eyes, changing all different colours, now it is blue and black along the right side with horizontal lines, and is flickering. I DIDN'T DROP IT.

I was just sitting on the couch scrolling through facebook, I closed out of that and went to open safari, when it spazzed out, for a few mintutes it looked like LSD vision, it was all different colours and flickering the whole time. I turned it off and on again, and plugged it into my computer and now the right side is nearly completely blue, and bleeds to the left side with horizontal lines, and it is still flickering. I just finished paying the **** thing off. I thought I'd get another year out of it. I have taken exemplary care of it and it hasn't left the case since the day I bought it. I haven't dropped it, there was no warning for the screen to start doing this. So my question is, is there an easy fix (I am about to restore and update it, and I already played around with the screen brightness), and if not, am I going to have to pay for the screen to be replaced, because I don't have that kind money.

Probably sounded funnier in your head.

  • HELP!  Macbook mail jpg attachments out of alignment

I sure hope someone can help me.
When I format my jpg photo attachments to be Center in an email announcement, they arrive at their destination flush Left.  This started a week ago, for some unknown reason.  I'm using Rich Text, not Plain Text.  Why did this start happening?  More importantly, how can I get format to work properly again?

do you know roughly how much it would cost me? just ballpark figure.
No one here can answer that as this is an international message board.  Your best bet is to ask the repair shop.  Make sure you get the labor costs, taxes, etc included so that you will have the total repair estimate.
NOTE:  If you purchased the computer with a credit card, discuss the warranty issue with the credit card company which you purchased the computer with.   They are the only ones who can at this point cover the computer after it goes out of warranty with the manufacturer (Apple).
If you have Homeowners insurance, place a claim with them.
    GOOD LUCK!

  • My Ipad screen is freaking out...?

    Hi.
So, at completely random times, my Ipad screen is filled with blue static-looking lines. They move and usually outline whatever I'm doing on it. Sometimes during this it freezes, and turns itself off. It's getting really annoying. I've already tried turning it off, charging it, deleting some apps...could you help me?

Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. DONT CONNECT YOUR DEVICE TO A COMPUTER WHILE DOING THIS.
if the problem continues perform a backup and restore
Go to settings>icloud>storage and back up>back up
after that preform a restore by going to
    general>reset>erase all content and settings
if the problem persists then go to apple and make an appointment before you go at the genius bar

  • My Macbook Pro is freaking out at me, what did I do wrong?

I'm not quite sure when it happened, but recently my computer's software has become extremely glitchy, it all started at the same time. I will list off all problems:
    1) F1, F2, F5, F6, F10, F11, F12 keys are not working. I've tried restarts, reboots, and safe mode. Nothing changed, except in safe mode. When in safe mode, my brightness keys (F1 and F2) are working fine, my keyboard brightness keys (F5 and F6) are still not working, and my volume keys (F10, F11, and F12) are responding, but when I hit any of them, it shows the volume at full like normal, except slightly gray, and with a small 'No symbol' or 'Universal no symbol' (the little circle with the diagonal line through it) on it.
    2) Every once and a while, applications become no longer responsive for no apparent reason. This is usually Finder, which also makes it so my desktop shows the beach ball of death whenever I select it. In safe mode, I haven't had this happen. Yet.
    3) You know how you can set it so your computer asks for your password when you open it after it's been on and closed for some time? Well, that's not happening even though it's set to happen. When I booted it up in safe mode, that seemed to fix the problem. Something else I might add, when I went in to activity monitor to see if anything wasn’t working (in normal boot mode, that is) I saw that ‘logicwindow’ was not responding. I did a bit of research, turns out that’s the thing that asks for your password on login.
    4) The power button in the upper righthand corner of the keyboard part of my laptop isn’t working for turning the computer off (other than force shut down). If I go to the apple logo and click ‘Shut down’, ‘log out’, ‘restart’, or ‘sleep’, those aren’t working either. Just gives me the beach ball of death and then goes away. The 'About This Mac' option wasn't working in normal mode either, but it does in safe. I'm thinking the shutdown related things in that same section, but I don't want to try it now, due to the fact that Safe Mode is a pain to shut down and/or restart.
I’m thinking that these problems had to do with a program I installed a while ago called ‘CrystalClear Interface’. It’s one of those softwares that doesn’t show up in the applications folder, but does show up in that special section of System Preferences, where items like Adobe Flash Player and Java also show up.
Anyone know what the taco is happening? Thanks.

If this were happening to me, I'd get rid of CrystalClear Interface.  I'd also try resetting NVRAM and PRAM. Also, maybe run EtreCheck, pasting the output here, so people here can see what it is you've done.

  • Can somebody help me?? im freaking out!!

Hi, so my Ipod touch 2ed gen, (i believe it has the 2.2 update) has been acting up lately where when I click on the music "button" it kicks me out right away without letting me access my music. That usually happens once or twice then it lets me in. Now I try and it wont let me in at all. I've tried getting in 20 times and even tried to reset it (just reseting it, not deleting all my stuff, the other one :D) soo...why is this happening and how i can listen to my music! oh, and it also does it for videos too, but not photos or any of the apps...thank you...

before you restore (from itunes), try the other troubleshooting steps:
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipodtouch/troubleshooting/
if you have to restore, DO try to restore from backup first, it's possible it'll fix it. if not, you'll have to restore completely, it's possible that the fault is in saved in the backup.

  • HELP! My TextField is freaking out...

    Hello!
I'm creating a command-based client where i have a textfield for handling input. Now, i'm having a problem with handling TextField events (or something in that way)... I want to be able to type in commands, but i should also be able to use the numpad keys for calling some other methods that i bind to them.... now, everything works well, the methods are called when i press the numpad keys (i use a keyListener). The problem however is that after the numpad keys have been pressed and the appropriate methods have been called the keyPressed event(or whatever it is) seems to be passed on to the textfield, so the number is printed in the textfield... i dont want the number to be printed, only the method to be called... anyone got an idea? Stop the event from being forwarded or something??? (it is really nessecary for the the textfield to be in focus, since i should be able to type commands or press the numpad shortcuts at any time)... help!

  • Help my phone screen is blacken out

my iphone 4 is black screen-- how do I restore

    Hi 711alex711,
If you are getting nothing but black on your iPhone's display, I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
    Specifically -
Display has no backlight or dark screen
Toggle the ringer switch to see if the unit vibrates. If it does, it could be that iPhone is getting power, but is not displaying any image.
Try turning iPhone off and then on again.
While connected to the iPhone charger, try to reset the iPhone.
If the low-battery screen appears, charge the iPhone.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Best,

  • Help! my ipod is freaking out!

I dropped my ipod, and it stopped playing music and the screen went blank white. I pressed and held the Menu and the Center buttons, but the screen just went black, and the Apple logo never came up. When I plugged it into my laptop, it beeped 3 times, and iTunes "couldn't recognize" it. It told me to restore it to factory settings, so I did but once it was done restoring, it said it couldn't recognize it and once again told me to restore it. I restored it again, but it just kept telling me it couldn't recognize my ipod, and it would need to be restored. I don't know what to do! Can my ipod be saved, or should I pronouce it dead, and replace it?

this has happened to me before- Plug your ipod into the usb cord and plug it into your computer- follow the instructions that itunes gives you. If it doent work try pluging it into the charger and holding the lock botton
    hope one of these works:)
