Help My Macbook will not turn on

One minute my Macbook worked then the next it would not turn on. When I push the power button it will make the sounds like it is turning on, then screen will turn white and a folder with a ? mark in it will blink. Does anyone know what is wrong with my computer ? Please help.

If you have access to an Apple Store or other authorized Apple specialist with service department, you could take the computer in for diagnosis and repair under the AppleCare plan. Or the complementary coverage that comes with the computer if you did not buy the extended plan to add a few more years on the basic one. With the basic plan, you have 90-days support; if you bought the AppleCare extended plan, you have a total of three years support and service. Within the first year (from day of original purchase) you can buy the extended plan. Without it, a fee may be charged to test the computer. Or if there is an Apple Store with Genius bar, you could arrange to get an appointment there, and there should be no charge (in USA) to diagnose the problem.
You can get started online, by visiting Apple Support:
http://www.apple.com/support/contact/
Not sure what is wrong with the computer, but an expert could tell.
Also if you have an Apple Store nearby (or within reasonable distance) you could call ahead to set an appointment to talk to a Genius, and have them look into the issue(s) the computer may have. One determined to need repair under AppleCare can be handed off, there.
Did you have a backup method in place to save your work off the computer, such as TimeMachine and external hard drive? I mention this because a computer going into the shop for possible repair may lose its content, and the hard drive or other parts may have failed, so your saved stuff in there could be lost.
Hopefully they can get the problem solved.
Good luck & happy computing!

  • The fan on my macbook will not turn off

Please help.  the fan on my macbook will not turn off.  Also, my battery is no longer showing a percentage.
    Thanks

Hmmm.  You have done the basics.  If you open the ActivityMonitor app in the Utliities folder,  select CPU usuage in the column-  flip it so highest % is on top.  Is ther an app in that column that is spiked?  Quit that app.
You can run the Apple Hardware Test by booting holding the D key on restart,  this may generate an error code. Not the most complete test but it is a start.
If no AHT- Boot off your Install Disk while holding down the d key, (not c key), then run the extended Apple Hardware Test. Some disks require you to use the Option key at bootup to select AHT. Some models have a separate AHT CD.

Your battery has reached the end of its life. If you have a MacBook with the removable battery you can get a new third party battery fairly cheap on eBay.

MacBook will not turn completely on. I get Apple fiqure and then the wheel just spins.

Reinstall OS X. Either use your installer DVD or do a network restore if you are using Lion or Mountain Lion.

  • My macbook will not turn on. Related to using wrong charger?

I used my macbook charger to charge a mac book pro and now my macbook will not turn on. The green light shows on the charger but it will not turn on. I am not sure it is related but what should I do?

Using one charger on another mac won't harm anything.

  • MacBook will not turn on, quite clicking sound when connected to power

I cleaned my MacBook with a damp cloth and now the MacBook will not boot. the first time I turned it on after I cleaned it. it turned on and the screen came on the grey apple loading screen, went away for a minute when I came back it had turned itself off.
Now when I press the power button it will not do anything at all, nothing turns on it is as it is dead. I have left it outside in the sun for a couple of days incase any water got into the machine but it still will not turn on.
When I connect the power cord to the MacBook the is a faint clicking sound coming from it.
This machine is about 3 years old so it is out of warranty.
Any suggestions to what it could be ?

This same thing just happened with mine - the clicking sounds like it's coming from the left speaker. I tried an smc reset and also took a look at the logic board to look for anything I might notice. What was the outcome for you - any info would be very helpful!

There may be something corrupted in the system, and a certain kind of reset may be able to help...

If that doesn't work, check instructions carefully and repeat if necessary, see about taking the computer to an Apple Store and try to call ahead for Genius appointment; or contact an authorized reseller with product specialists and service.
Some users ventured into their out-of-warranty macbooks to check the actual cables going from the battery compartment to the logic board, apparently some batteries unplug. Others you can't get into.
I see following post/link says several things, can't vouch for any except ^ the SMC reset support page above: https://discussions.apple.com/message/23996241#23996241 - Also, check the right side in this recent thread for links to similar topics.
    {In order to make a backup at this late a date, you'd need power to the computer; enough to try & see if something as quaint as 'Target Disk mode' would work... If your Macbook is one with Firewire ports.}
•How to use and troubleshoot FireWire target disk mode:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661
With FW TDM, the failed computer can sometimes be powered up holding the T-key down, and a firewire icon would appear on the screen; then one could go about attaching or using a FW cable of correct type and connect it to another capable computer, then the failed computer's HDD would appear as an external drive. In the past, it was possible to clone or copy a drive from a computer that won't boot to another hard disk drive. Or at least copy stuff of that does not require the system to function along with the saved files.

  • TS1367 My MacBook will not turn on

Bought MacBook Air in January 2013 and today it will not turn on? Do I need to take it to Apple store?

Yes. In the interim you can see if resetting the SMC does anything. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC). This is only helpful if you have a problem with power as opposed to not being able to start OS X.

First try a Reset  ( No Data will be Lost )
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least Ten seconds... (But can take Longer)... until the Apple logo appears. Release the Buttons
If no joy... Try a Restore...
1: Connect the device to Your computer and open iTunes.
2: If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane.

  • Macbook will not turn on. I"ve tried all recommended troubleshooting steps.

Early today, my macbook froze up. This has happened before and I did not think much of it, so I did like always and held down the power button until it shut off. Then I tried restarting it. At the start up screen where it asks for my password, I could not type it in because the screen was still frozen. I tried again to restart it and now it will not turn on at all! It does not make any sounds as though it is attempting to start or anything of that sort. Nothing happens when I try holding the power button. I've tried holding it down for 10 seconds, disconnecting the power cord, disconnecting the battery and holding the power button for 5 seconds, and I've tried holding the command, control, and power buttons down together. Is there anything else I can try to get it to start, or should I just make a genius bar appointment? I've had problems with this macbook before--including a hard drive crash and a kernal panic. Not sure if those might have anything to do with this issue.
    I'm frustrated!
    Thanks for any tips.

You are going to need to get that looked at. You got a battery or logic board issue going on there.
