HELP: My mini wont start up :(

My mini crashed and i was forced to turn it of at the back.
Now when i try and turn it on it goes to the first screen the light grey one but the spinny load thing doesnt come up and just stays on that screen.
I tried putting a startup cd holding C and that doesnt work either.
WHATS HAPPENED???
Help please.

The instructions I gave you were for a PMU (Power Management Unit) reset. The PMU can get confused and fail to function correctly in situations where the system was powered down in the way you describe, and the result can be (though isn't always) that the system will fail to restart. Other symptoms could be that the system boots up fine, but external devices on USB or firewire ports don't work.
What you did by unplugging everything and leaving the system in that condition for a few minute in effect does the same thing as a PMU reset, so I suspect the problem was that simple!

  • Help my powerbook wont start

Im having trouble starting my powerbook. When I turn on the computer first I see a folder with the question mark, then a grey screen with a black square in the middle saying that i need to restart my computer. I know its a Kernel panic. I tried to use the disk utility to repair it. It repairs but it still wont start up. I tried re-installing the software and it cant find a drive to install it. I try to turn it on in safe mode and a bunch of information about the kernel appears and at the end it says "panic: We are hanging here. . ." So i dont know what to do. Can someone help me please. Thank you so much.

It could be your ram. Inspect that is in place properly.

I tried putting back my old RAM and resetting the BIOS but it still wont start.

thanks everyone i have isolated the problem...the culprit is the psu  i have another problem though, after i bought a new psu, the vga card is not detected from time to time...i also get the BSOD upon exiting windows and I cannot access the BIOS, it just freezes after I press the DEL key.

  • Help - my MacBook wont start?

The led is on but the machine wont start up?
I have tryed to hold the powerbutton down and violet close, but when I try to start up, the same problem appears :-(

I think you'll need to tell us a bit more: MacBook model, and what exactly happens.
For example, you're posting here under "MacBook Air" but refer to an LED... which the MBA doesn't have.
After holding down the Power button for a while (which shuts down the Mac no matter what), is that LED still on?
When you attempt to start it, can you hear the start-up gong?
Does the screen remain dark, or do you get to see at least a grey screen? If so, how far does it go before it stalls?

  • HELP--- HTTP Server wont start,

I disabled the Webgate protecting port 8080 thats being used by OAM now my HTTP server wont start. Thoughts on getting it started. Here's the Enterprise manager HTTP_Server log entry.
    08/04/10 21:18:53 Start process

    Thanks!

I believe you have disabled the web gate in the OAM.But when a web gate is installed, it writes to the HTTP server httpd.conf file to as a part of installation and to redirect the requests on that server to the OAM. So Now if you revert back to the original conf file are the edition before the installation of web gate and try to start the same, you should be fine.

  • Mac Mini wont start after power outage, and problem copying iPhoto library. HELP!

So, recently there was a power outage in my neighborhood, the power was intermitent for about 2 hours, during this time my mac rebooted itself several times, but on the second time it rebooted the power went out during boot, then the power finally went out for good, it was back in about 3 hours, but when i finnaly turned on my mac it got stuck at the Apple logo with a spinning wheel and a progress bar that wouldnt go past 40%, when i boot holding command -v it said that there were a lot of errors which were automatically fixed, except for one, "Incorrect Thread records" or something like that.
I have another partition with Mountain Lion installed for emergencies, the other one with Lion became inaccessible to mountain lion or any other OS X version, but oddly enough, I can access my Lion partition via HFSexplorer and see all my files untouched.
My main concern are my pictures in iPhoto, and thats about 36Gb of data, I want to backup them to my windows pc by copying the whole iPhoto library package, but HFSexplores for some reason cant copy the folders with date (XX/XX/XXXX) with the /, and it keeps changing them to XX_XX_XXXX and I know that would pretty much break my iPhoto library!
I googled my drive problem and people said that I need a Disk Utility called DiskWarrior, but I cant seem to find how to to use it, I got a copy from a friend, it was the digital version of the boot disk which need to be burned to a dvd.
Any help would be appreciated, and sorry for the bad english

  • Mac min wont start

gray screen comes up with the apple and the loader symbol spins but just does not come in, few days before i was having issues with the drive and graphics, is this a goner?
    it is a g4 1.5 512mb superdrive model

If the drive is clicking, it may be defective, which could affect startup: I've had several G4 towers refuse to boot if the optical drive was dead, even with no disk in the drive.
Can you boot to single-user mode (hold apple+s keys on startup)? If so, use the "fsck -fy" command to run file system check (Repair Disk).
Another thing to try, if you have access to another Mac, is to start your mini in Target mode and see whether it mounts when you connect it via firewire to another Mac. If it mounts, you can try running Disk Utility and see whether that helps.

  • Hp mini wont start up

so i've had my hp mini for about 2 years now. i never really experienced any major problems until this one. last year i used to get the blue screen telling me that ut had crashed but i managed to fix that (i honestly dont know how). i get that blue screen very seldom now.
basically my laptop starts then it goes to this black screen that gives me two options : launch startup repair or start windows normally. i continue to start windows normally and i'm transferred back to this screen and the same thing with startup repair. i tried f8 and clicked on every option and still it doesn't work. i did some searching and the only means to repairing it is having a disc. however my hp mini did not come with a disc and doesn't even have a disc drive. so i really have no idea what i'm supposed to do. is this most likely the end of my laptop or are there other methods to fixing this problem ? please help .

Without a disk drive it becomes a geeky thing to fix it but very possible. Is it XP or Windows 7? One fairly easy way to fix it is to get a usb flash drive and make it bootable, then put the contents of an operating system disk on it.

  • Help my mini wont work at all

ok so when i turn my mini ipod on a icon comes up that looks like the ipod with a sad face and a exclamattion point. i tried to reset it but it still comes up the same and i cannot restore it because it doesnt show up on my computer and it wont charge when i plug it in the usd port.
    gateway laptop   Windows XP

I had the same problem for months and after replacing the motherboard, my operating system and many other costly, unnecessary things I tried this....turn off your computer and unhook everything (including network/hi-speed connections). Connect back only the power, monitor, keyboard, and mouse. Plug in your ipod and see if it works.
I went through these steps after someone told me a USB keyboard may be the probelm (if so, just get the adapter to convert to non-USB), but my problem was actually my printer - not the keyboard. Everything works fine when the printer is not plugged in to the USB port.
Bottom line, if you unplug eveything and it works, start plugging things back in until you have problems.
    Good luck.

  • N97 Mini, Wont Start Up

    Hi All
New on here so please take it easy on me.
I brought a Nokia N97 Mini at the beggining of December and so far it has been great, until today.
Switched it on and the white background with Nokia in blue writing came on as per usual. Trouble is, nothing happened after that, it just stayed on that screen.
I have tried battery in and out loads of times and starting without the sim card in but no difference.
Is there anything I can do to clear this or is it a send it back problem???
Thanks for any help you can give me.
    Wayne

I also had this problem when I started my usual heavy use of my new Nokia N97 mini which i purchased in december.
Startup was only possible when playing around with the charger, and removing the battery and so on.
I also performed the four-finger hard reset, which did solve the problem for a while, but after restoring everything ..the same story all over again.
I solved this problem when I disabled Garmin Mobile XTs (v5.00.50) background process TSRAutoStart.exe. (Primarily i did this because it was eating away the battery life, which has also improved afterwards.)
In this version it is possible to disable the process by having the process enabled in Garmin settings, restarting Garmin, disabling the process and restarting it again. (Use of an application that displays running processes to check if it is really off is advised).
    For older versions use google
So now i have been able to restart the phone without any problems (3/3 restarts successful so far)

  • Mini wont start

    Hello,
I just upgraded my mini to 2gb of ram, two Mushkin 5300 sticks of 1024.
I took out the old 2x 256's and put in the pair of 1024's
    However, it would not start.
So I found it starts, but only with one stick of ram (in the bottom slot)
I also tried putting both the original sticks of ram in and it will no longer start, only with one stick. No chime, no fans, no nothing.
I tried both of the 1024's individually and the mini starts fine, same with the old 256's so I don't think the memory is the problem.
Should I just call apple and chew their ears a bit, any insights or suggestions?
    Core Duo 166   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Hello,
From the sounds of things, and the behavior you describe, it sounds like the memory slot has become damaged. Or, that you have discharged static on or broken something else in the process.
You are in a bad spot. The Apple User's Guide specifically says that there are no user serviceable parts inside the computer, and that it should be taken in for service for any upgrades (including memory).
So, they tell you right there not to open the computer.
(I'm not scolding you, just building the foundation for my explanation).
And, then in the warranty terms, they specifically say that any damage caused by the user installing upgrades and modifications will not be covered under warranty.
So, you really are in a bad spot in terms of warranty coverage.
I do believe your machine to be damaged at this point. If it wasn't then it would at least work with the original memory installed. The only other option would be if you are not getting the memory fully seated in the upper slot (which is possible - it can take a lot of pressure).
And, if the machine is now damaged, it will be pretty clear that it is the result of the user's attempt to service or upgrade it. So, any repair costs will fall on you. Apple will not cover the repair bill for user damage.
So, at this point, if you are sure that you have seated the memory in 100% properly, and cannot get it to work no-matter how firmly you press it in there, then you can consider it broken.
You're options are pay Apple to repair it. Or, just not use the memory slot that doesn't work anymore.
I'm sorry to have to tell you this. But, it's the unfortunate truth of the situation.
Before you give-up, I would try making sure that you have the memory modules 100% fully seated.
But, if that fails, then your options are as stated above (pay for repair or leave it broken).
I wish I could advise you otherwise. But, it's just an unfortunate situation.
    I hope this helps.

  • Help... wont start up, freezes with spinning spectrum

My Mac displayed the spinning spectrum icom while my son was browsing online. I couldn't force quit or restart at all, I had to switch off the power but when it starts it gets past the grey screen with apple logo, turns to the blue screen but then back to grey with the arrow cursor at top left corner but it doesn't move with the mouse - the spinning spectrum also appears and that moves with the mouse! I've switched off at mains 3 yimes now, the last time was before I went out, for 6 hours and it still does the same!
It's 10.6.8. Appreciate any help, really don't know what to do apart from start up from install disk??
    Thanks

Zap PRAM/NVRAM is holding down 4 keys and kept down in addition to RESET SMC:
Unplugging everything, and power, and holding the power on button in for 5-10 seconds to reset the SMC then releasae and reconnect everything. And then start power on booting.
I have heard of logicboards so rare and usually it is not. graphics, yes, PSU in 2008 maybe.
Remove all the disk drives, just slide them half way out.
When you do those hard restarts and pulling power, force the system shutdown, it can harm the directory of the disk drives.
Killing power by pulling the plug or power is never good or helpful. Having a Mac Pro, put it on a good solid UPS will protect and likely extend its life and usefulness.
Having offline backups with your system, essential. Get in the habit of cloning and having multiple backup sets and methods, like TimeMachine plus SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner.
