Help!  My movie is making funny noises!

I have encountered a problem with imovie 4.0. (on eMac) I have created an almost 20 minute softball video and burned it to DVD. Some of the "natural sound" is there and all of the music is there throuout the entire video. I tried to extract audio from the clips that didn't have audio in the video so the audio would be in a different clip pane. After exporting the audio and locking everything down, all of a sudden a sound swept through my entire video. It almost sounds like the audio is in slow motion or very distant static. I tried everythign in my power to settle down the audio but I don't know what else to do. I've spent over 30 hours working on this video and it would be painful to see it all go to crap. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry, it has been over a month, I haven't been able to get back into school with summer vacation and all! I got the video to work on the DVD with all the correct sounds I wanted. I originally hadn't converted it to quicktime and just burned the iMovie with iDVD. After like an hour and a half, the quicktime didn't have the gross puking noise and everything is A-OK! Thanks for your help!

  • CD / DVD drive making funny noises....

Not the most tech savvy of posts I know, but when I insert a DVD disc into my drive, it just whirrrs, and clicks, and after about a minute, spits it out.
    Any ideas??
    Thanks
    MArk

The drive is making funny noises because it's trying to read the disk. If it can't read the disk, it will spit it back out. Try wiping the disk from the center out with a cloth to remove any fingerprints. Hope this helps!

  • Problem with my iPod classic 160gb - making funny noises, and no download

Hi, At the same point every time i try to put music on my ipod classic 160gb, it begins to make a funny noise, and itunes and the ipod freezes. I have to disconnect it unproperly, and the message "The ipod disk could not be read from or written to", but my old music still remains. So i tried to restore the ipod on my macbook, but i still have the problem.
This is the 4th Ipod classic 160gb i have had, and there has been a harddisk problem with all of them, so this could be the problem, but the funny click-clack sound is new to this one.
Anybody in here have experience with such kind of problems?
Hope to get the problem solved soon.
    Oliver Nash, DK.

Unfortunately, when a hard drive starts clicking that means it's going bad. The mechanism is having trouble reading the drive. Since the iPod is mostly just a harddrive and a battery I have a feeling that this is your problem.
    watch this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wMm6c3fr-fU
about 25ss in is where the clicking starts. If it sounds like that, but softer and more muffled since it is a smaller drive that is being enclosed then I think you might be SOL. Maybe if you're iPod is still under warranty you can get a credit and go for a touch and avoid moving parts all together?

  • Tecra A2: HDD making funny noises crashing laptop

Today, I turned on my laptop, got into windows, started working when my laptop made a funny noise, like a whoosh kinda noise, n thn my pc froze! i rebooted, but the same thing happened this time on the windows log in screen, i kept rebooting trying to make it work...until it didn't boot n now it just sits on toshiba screen before boot.
The HD LED no longer comes on and i'm stuck on the menu. I opened up my laptop n looked at the hardrive (tho did not touch cos i didn't wanna break it!) n its not loose or anything..but now i can't make it boot, i've tried the recovery cd which i can sometimes get into tho it doesn't seem to work!
Please can soemone tell me how to fix it, preferabley without sending it to Toshiba.

    Hi Paul,
It sounds as if your hard drive has failed. Check in your BIOS during the initial POST to see if the drive is being correctly recognised.
You can try to restore the hard drive from the recovery CD (just boot from the recovery CD and follow the on-screen prompts) but this will erase all of your personal data and any programs that you may have installed and return your notebook to its original condition.
If you still have problems then I think you will need to replace the hard drive and re-install your system.

  • Fan borked? Making funny noises when it starts spinning up

    All -
I'm fairly certain I have to take my PB in for service, but I'd like to verify that first, since my warranty expired two months ago.
For the past two weeks or so, every time I start up a video-intensive application (such as world of warcraft), the fan quickly spins up to high power. That's normal - but it's been making a high pitched buzzing sound that is definitely not normal. It originates in the upper left corner, at about the top of the speaker (which I disabled to verify it). Further, I run multiple desktops, and if I leave the game open but switch to another desktop (using Desktop Manager .5.3), the noise generally subsides in 10-20 seconds. This makes me think it's some sort of fan attached to the video card...? Comments? Thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Lance

I'm having the same issue, also due to World of Warcraft. I'm used to the fan being loud, but the high pitch sound you mention is definitely not normal. Honestly, it scared me so badly the first time I heard it, I think I actually jumped in my seat a bit. This was about a week ago.
I'm away at college, so with no means of fixing the problem at the moment, I started playing the game at the lowest settings possible (800x600 res, colors at 16-bit instead of 24, etc) That seemed to tame the beast, but only for a short time. In the past two days, I've attempted to start up, low settings as usual, but within a literal minute or two, the fan powers up and the strange sound begins.
I'm still trying to determine how I should go about solving this, (or if the problem is even rooted in the fan itself) whether it be via apple, or on my own, since my warranty also ended about 2 months ago, and I don't have Applecare.
It looks like you posted this a few weeks ago, Corbets... if you see this topic again, I'd appreciate it if you could reply with any information you gathered and/or how you went about fixing the problem... if you have yet.
    Thanks,
    Pam
Also, if anyone else happens across this topic, how much free advice and/or help can I get if I walk in to my local Mac store with my above problem... before they decide I need to start forking over some cash? I'm a bit nervous in that respect. As I mentioned, I'm currently away at college, and I try to save where I can.

  • Dashboard making funny noise?

    Hi
Everytime i open Dashboard i hear this music, it has thunder noises this scary music with an evil laugh
i know this is random but i have no idea what this is, maybe some one knows what it is and how i can get rid of it, or how i could reset dashboard itself

    Hello shorty:
You could try a couple of things:
Trash these preference files and restart:
    com.apple.dashboard.plist
    com.apple.dashboard.client.plist
If that does not help, I suspect one of the widgets you have downloaded has something imbedded.

  • Hard Disks making funny noises

Dear Folks, got an odd problem.
Two weeks ago I was running two SATA HDisks - My Primary one being the SAMSUNG below and secondary being a Maxtor.  The Maxtor started making this strange intermittent buzzing sound - it is discrete but because my desktop is right beside me I sensed it.  It kind of when like this> bzzz .... bzzz ... bzzz ... bzzz after every two secs.
SO i thought it was the driver, Now I just bought a WesterDigital hard drive and lone behold it is doing EXACTLY the same thing.  It can't be two fault Hard Disks in a row - especially since the Maxtor worked fine before my new build.
    Any ideas?

    Run the manufacturer testing tools.
If a harddisk is going bad, then it slow down your system to almost a halt.
It could simply be swapping of your harddisk making that sound, Windows does access the harddisk a lot, even when you do nothing.
I ran Western Digital's Data LifeGuard Diagnostics (Quick and Extended test).  They both came up as a "PASS" - no more information than that.
What I don't understand is that it is the same problem with my MAXTOR and Wester Digital HD.  That can't be coincidence surely?

  • Screen is blank, making funny noise

I have the Imac G.4 plat panel. My computer was fine until yesterday when I turned it on, all I got was a blank white screen. Then it would make a clicking noise.....I do not know what to do??
I keep restarting and the same noise and white screen..
    Please Help

If the eject button (or holding the mouse button down after the start-up chime to open the tray) doesn't work then there could be a greater issue than just the screen. If it goes straight to a blank white screen then your only option is to take it to an Apple Authorised Service Provider to have it looked at.
You may wish to look at this user tip (link) which looks at some of the options.

    Hi all,
I've been having the same problem, but found that a firm tap on the interior of my car door has rectified it. I'm not sure that Apple would recommend this solution, but it worked for me!
I'm wondering if it's anything to do with the latest software upgrade?
    Cheers

  • Combo Drive making funny noises

My slot drive has been reading disks (both CDs and DVDs) fine, but whenever I insert a disk it makes a series of loud thunks, a few clicks and then a loud whir as the disk starts to spin. The whir continues the whole time the disk is in the drive. When I eject the disk it thunks some more, and I have to grab it right away, or it will get sucked right back in. However, there is no resistance when I pull it out.
My iBook is about 2 years old and the warranty has run out. I verified my permissions and reset the power manager, with no change. Does anyone have any ideas?

    Try the standard fixes:
    - Reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory defaults/new iPod.

  • Help! Macbook freezing and making crackling noises.

I purchased my macbook about a year ago and up until a few months ago it was running fine. All of a sudden one day after I started it up it ran very slow and started freezing. Then the speakers made some sort of crackling noise. I restarted, and eventually had to call support because it would freeze and I couldn't do anything. It turns out I never purchased the warranty but they helped me anyway. I did a disk check and the tech had me do some repairs. After that everything seemed to be fine. Until 2 months later I was use imovie and the computer just froze up and started making the noise again. Now it's back to what it was doing before. I can't get any help from tech support and I do not remember everything the tech had me do before. Is there anyone that has had a similar problem? I'd appreciate anyone's help! Thanks!!!

Apple start they macbook line on may 16 2006, so even if you buy your macbook at the very first day, few months ago you still covered by warranty.
Do check your warranty status from here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/macbook/
Enter your hardware serial number to find out what coverage is available for your product:..............
Try to reset PRAM and SMC:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303319
Try to repair permission by open application folder > utilities folder > disk utility > repair permission.
if you want to repair disk, restart using your installer disk by boot up your macbook with installer disk inside and press C.
Choose language, go to utilities at menu bar > disk utility > repair disk.
    Good Luck.
