[HELP] My MSI External Hard Drive Enclosure cannot be recognized by my laptop...

As the subject tells my MSI cannot be recognized by my laptop...
At first I thought that my laptop is the one at fault but i tried inserting it on my friends computer but still doesn't work.
Then I blame the USB connector but tried using it on other devices and it works.
The only one left to be blamed is the device itself.
the model of this device is MSI UH1000-K500
Before this device broke(i guess) I am copying my important files to my PC.
I cant seem to see the drive in my "drive manager".
But I can see it on "Devices and printer"
Can anyone help me how to fix this?
I really need your help...

nope it didn't got partitioned/formatted...
I'm sorry for late reply been busy this past few weeks...
I already returned the device on the seller because it is still in warranty period...
thx for the help anyway...

what model is your HP laptop? also how old is it?
Prior to SATA connector there is the PATA connector.

  • Help with an external hard drive enclosure

I had a Power Mac G5 that had a motherboard which died. The hard drives were still good so I purchased the "EAGLE Consus D-Series ET-CSDU2J-BK JBOD 2Bay SATA to USB 2.0 External Enclosure". I have it on the setting which both of drives show up on the desktop individually. So far it works and everything is great but I would really like to make it so it combines both hard drives (two seagate 160GB of the same model) into one 320 hard drive. I have a macbook pro running OS X. Do i have to reformat and erase everything before I change it to spanning or can i just switch the jumper and have one hard drive image with all my data still on it? Thanks
Here is the online manual if it helps http://www.eagletechusa.com/Download/ET-CSDU2J-BK_UM.pdf

RAIDing the two will destroy the data on the drive. I'm sure that's explained in the manual.

  • Recommended SCSI to SATA converter for older external hard drive enclosure?

I have a SCI external hard drive enclosure that I would like to be able to use a with a SATA drive. Can anyone suggest an inexpensive, reliable SCSI to SATA bridge board?

Those are both good points. It's a really nice enclosure (its a red FW400 drive that instead of being a rectangular box, it has this funky wave shape). I could just use the drive with an existing SCSI drive and make it for something that doesn't need high r/w speeds like documents.

  • Can't format external hard drive enclosure

I connected a 250gb external hard drive enclosure to my mac osx 10.3.9. I was told that it was formatted to windows and that i would have reformat it to mac.
I was given instructions to go to Disk Utility, select the volume and click on the partition tab, but a partition tab didn't appear when i pressed it.
I checked out the info for the volume and this is what it gave me:
    Name : New Volume
    Type : Volume
    Disk Identifier : disk1s1
    Mount Point : /Volumes/New Volume
File System : Winows NT Filesystem
    Connection Bus : USB
    IO Content : Windows_NTFS
    Writable : No
    Capacity : 232.9 GB (250,056,705,024 Bytes)
    Free Space : 232.8 GB (249,976,606,720 Bytes)
    Used : 76.4 MB (80,097,792 Bytes)
    Number of Files : 48
    Number of Folders : 0
    Permissions Enabled : Yes
Can Turn Permissions Off : No
    Can Repair Permissions : No
    Can Be Verified : No
    Can Be Repaired : No
    Can Be Formatted : No
    Bootable : No
    Supports Journaling : No
    Journaled : No
    Disk Number : 1
    Partition Number : 1
Final Cut Pro wouldn't let me use it as a sratch disk because it says it is on write-protected.
Does anyone know what i have to do to get the volume to work.
    Thank you.

    Jayden:
Here are some directions for formatting and partitioning a HDD:
    Partitioning a Hard Disk Drive
Boot from the install CD holding down the "C" key.
    Select language
Go to the Utilities menu and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in left side bar.
Select Partition tab in main panel.
Select # of partition in pulldown menu above Volume diagram.
Select 1 partition at a time and resize. (you can type size in the size field in main pane).
Type in name in Name field (usually Macintosh HD)
Select Volume Format as Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
Click Partition button at bottom of panel.
    Select Erase tab
Select each volume, in turn, under Manufacturer ID.
    Select on Security Options button.
Select Zero all data. (This process will map out bad blocks on your HDD. However, it could take several hours. If you want a quicker method, don't go to Security Options and just click the Erase button.)
    Quit Disk Utility.
Dr. Smoke's FAQ Backup and Recovery has some hints on partitioning.
Please don't hesitate to post back with further questions or comments.
    Good luck.

  • External Hard Drive Enclosure won't mount

    Hi
I have a Western Digital Caviar WD3200JD 1TB SATA hard drive inside an external startech enclosure
    http://www.startech.com/item-download/SAT3510U2B-35in-USB-to-SATA-External-Hard- Drive-Enclosure-with-One-Button-Backup.aspx
It won't mount on my mac, it won't recognise it in disk utility either
I mounts fine on a PC running Vista. I have formatted it as NTFS but it will still not shoe on my mac
    Anything else I can try?
    Thanks!

my 12 inch powerbook laptop body was no good, but the hard drive was. I had a powermac g4 tower with a bad harddrive. After researching, I found this site and I mounted the laptop harddrive into the desktop and boom! my old laptop drive booted up on the desktop powermac. here is the link. a 3 yr old can install this it is way too easy, plus it cost 99 Cents. way cheaper than buying an enclosure.

LR 5 does not recognize my external hard drive. It has  recognized this drive in the past. No help at any Adobe site.

My external HD  contains photos I have worked on in the past.
Additionally, I have added photos to LR5 directly onto my Mac HD. (38
photos added when working in the absence of my external HD)
Presently, in the Library mode, the Le Cie external HD is not seen in the
upper left hand corner  "Source" location.
The only way to "see" the La Cie HD and its photos is in the "Import" mode.
These photos have previously been imported.
I wish to use the La Cie HD as my source in the Library mode and proceed to
    the Develop mode.
In other words, work on my previously imported, previously worked on
photos, now on the La Cie.

  • My toshiba external hard drive is not being recognized, except when I eject it. I have the preferences checked to show icon and have checked utilities folder. nothing. Help!

I have a iMac, Yosemite 10.10 and my toshiba external hard drive is not being recognized, except when I eject it!. I have the preferences checked to show icons and have looked in the utilities folder..nothing. I have also changed ports. ??

    A few things to try:
1-Repair permissions and restart your computer.
    2-Zap the PRAM
3-Use Software Update/App Store to update your OS to OS 10.10.3.  Also, update everything SU/AS has to offer for your computer.  When done, repair permissions and restart your computer.

You cannot. From a legal standpoint, the license agreement for OS X mandates that you run OS X only on Apple hardware. HP is not (yet) owned by Apple.
From a technical standpoint, your HP laptop doesn't use EFI, but rather an early predecessor called a BIOS. Apple is the only vendor of consumer computer hardware that uses EFI; other vendors reserve EFI for use in servers.
Secondly, Apple's operating systems support a rather limited number of configurations of video hardware and mainboard chipsets directly since they need only support those systems that they manufacture. You cannot use Windows software or drivers on OS X, so prior to installation, you would need to write your own hardware drivers for your laptop, create an OS X drive image on a Mac, and then modify that image with your drivers before putting it in the HP.
It will be simpler (and legal), to simply purchase a used Mac. Apple's online store has refurbished MacBook Airs starting at $850 and Mac Minis for $700. If you go to e-bay or craigslist, you'll find used Macs for considerably less.

  • How can i save my individual playlist on itunes on my external hard drive because i want to buy a laptop and install itunes and move all my music and playlist thats on my desktop to my laptop and almost all my music is from a bunch of cd's i own

how can i save my individual playlist on itunes on my external hard drive because i want to buy a laptop and install itunes and move all my music and playlist thats on my desktop to my laptop and almost all of my music is from a bunch of cds i own

    Hello ryane84
The easiest and most efficient way to copy your music is to follow the steps under the External drive section. Make sure that you have organized the iTunes library first before you copy it over. Then put the copied iTunes folder in the same Music folder on your computer.

  • HT203167 Moved iTunes library from one computer to another using external hard drive.  Cannot play many files.  Says they are missing but locates them in an archive file but still won't play them.  Are the files themselves part of the .itl files?

Moved iTunes library from old computer (PC Windows 7) to new (PC Window 8) using external hard drive.  Library listing shows all music but can only play a fraction of it.  On the ones it cannot play it asks to locate, then refers to an archived version (an .itl file), and still cannot play them.  Do I just need to copy the archived .itl over, or is that not where the actual media are (do the actual media files even exist on the new computer?)?  Any advice or information on this would be helpful.

*Also...is there any way I can filter out all the tracks with the ! so I can delete the unplaying copies as they're taking up room in my iTunes? I know how to find duplicates, but then I have to go and delete each one individually...*
    *Thank you!*

  • HELP with using external hard drive

Can anyone please help? I have been using Windows based PCs for a majority of my life. I recently purchased a Macbook. I have thousands of songs saved on a Maxtor external hard drive. I recently connected the HD to my Macbook and was able to successfully copy over all of the photos I have saved and only few of the audio files but not all. I checked the audio files are saved in itunes format. Why can I not copy all of my music over? Please help! When I connect HD to PC I see the missing files that cannot been seen when I connect my HD to my Macbook. Bizare, don't you think?

Any chance that the files not showing up on the Mac have file names starting with a period (.)?

  • HELP! MY EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE CAN'T BE ACCESSED!!

I accicentally changed the permissons on my New Lacie external Hard Drive and now the hard drive cannot be seen on my desk top and I don't have access to it. It can be seen in disk utility, but I cannot access it at all. Please, anyone, help me!

    @simon backhouse
Your problem is a little different. I am guessing that your external drive was formatted using HFS+ (the standard Mac file system). Windows can not recognize this, although it detects that something is attached to your computer.
I would also guess that when you are in XP, you can not see your Mac OS X partition (the one on your internal drive).
To solve this issue, the only remedy I know is something called MacDrive. Once you install MacDrive in XP, you should be able to see all your HFS+ (i.e. Mac OS X) partitions and external drives. Furthermore, you will be able to save files to them.

  • PLEASE HELP! My external Hard drive is no longer showing up when plugged in

I have a Western Digital My Book external hard drive using USB2. I have always plugged it in and the hard drive icon appears on my desktop. However, the drive does not appear anymore. It does not appear in the finder, but can be seen using disk utility. I have tried restarting my computer, trying different USB ports, and nothing seems to work.
I am completely loosing my mind, as I have not backed up the majority of the contents on this drive and need this drive to work!
Is there anything I can do? Is there anything I'm missing? Please help me quickly!

If the Disk Utility lists it in gray, click on the Repair Disk button for it or attempt recovery of its contents.
If the Disk Utility lists it in black, check the settings in the General and Sidebar tabs of the Finder's preferences. If that doesn't work, click here and follow the instructions.

  • Help with using external hard drive to boot windows on PC

    Hi,
I'm not sure if this is in the right place, so apologies in advance if not. I've looked around the internet for a good while now, and I haven't found anyone in my exact position.
My PC's hard drive (running Windows 7) recently died; long story short, I am attempting to reinstall windows. The only other computer I have is this MacBook Pro, on which I have an .iso file of Windows 7. So I want to use my external hard drive (WD 500GB "MyBook") as a boot device so that I can install Windows onto my new internal hard drive.
The problem I am having is that, well, nothing seems to be working. Every time I try to load the .iso onto my external hard drive and boot my PC with it, either a blank screen appears or it says "missing operating system".
I have made sure that the BIOS is running the external hard drive as its boot priority.
I have tried using Disk Utility to partition the external drive, then using 'Restore' to load the .iso onto the partition, to no avail.
I have tried simply dropping the extracted .iso files onto the hard drive, this doesn't work.
I have also tried changing the file system of the external hard drive using the 'Erase' feature (NTFS-3G (using an addon), FAT32, exFAT, all of the others), but I notice that whenever I use Restore after doing this, the file system seems to return to Mac OS Extended, which might be why it isn't booting up on my PC. Is there any way I can succesfully partition the external hard drive in a format that will allow Windows 7 to boot (such as NTFS?), and is Disk Utility even the right program to do this?
If you want any more information from me, please let me know and I'll do my best to provide it - I'm not the most advanced mac user in the world, but I've spent days trying to fix this problem and nothing, no combination of anything, seems to work at all. So any help will be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks

Here is a quick suggestion for you:
Download Virtual Box (free PC Emulator for Mac) and install Windows 7 on your Mac (don't worry about activating it yet, as you don't need to keep it more than a few hours).  You can tell Virtual Box to use the ISO file as the DVD drive for your virtual Windows computer, so no need to burn a disk.
Search Google for creating a bootable USB installer for Windows 7.  I found a link that gave good instructions on how to do this using DiskPart.
Follow the instructions to make the bootable USB stick for installing Windows 7 using your virtual machine you created above.
Use the USB stick to install Windows on your new PC.
Remove the virtual Windows machine from your Mac.
Remove Virtual Box from your Mac.
I found a set of instructions and built an installable USB stick last night that worked great for installing Windows 7 Pro (64 bit) onto my older ThinkPad I had sitting at home.  The USB installer also installs in about half the time as a DVD install.  The only reason I have you create the virtual Windows PC is that all of the instructions for makeing the Windows install USB stick are written assuming that you already have access to a running Windows PC.  By doing this install, you have up to 3 days before you would need to activate it and you can build the installer USB stick and remove teh virtual computer long before that.
