Help! my password is not working...for no reason!

today i went into my system preferences and was just looking at stuff. i never changed anything and it never asked for my password. when i went to get back on my mac, it wouldn't accept my password. i tried it several different ways and it wouldn't accept it. i need to know if there's a certain way i can get back into my mac without having to clear the entire laptop.

You don't say what OS you are using, if it is 10.6.8 try the following
First back up your computer.
Then insert the install disc click utilities, and recreate your password, click use in keychain, which will make all your keychains the ame. you can use your old one and this should fix your password issue.
Start with your computer off, power up and insert the disc whie holding the "c" key till the spinning daisy wheel comes up, then try the above.

Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

no. Can you rephrase your first question? I am the admin. ITunes asks me for a password when I open it and it works now but I cannot install software from Adobe or Microsoft. I am talking about updates. Apple updates do not require password now.

I have two @me email addresses, and changing my password did not work for the original one

I recently changed my password for my apple id, and it was successful - to a point. I have two email accounts, it appears ... my original @me and a new one assigned by icloud. The password changed properly for this new email (which I never use) and not for the old one (which I always use). How can I fix this?

Thank you for your question. I understand that you would like to sync all of your devices. Please make sure that all of the devices are updated at least to version 29.
If you were on a version before this, you will have to set up a new email and password with the new sync.

When I'm using the Mail app, it won't recognize my @mac.com accounts password and I can't get my mail.
It is the same password I use to log on here, why doesn't it work?

why not delete the account in your mail app and add it again.
that way, you can add your new password when you re-enter your account in your mail app/program.

Assuming that you forgot the password then reset the PW by:

CFQUERY not working for some reason

I have the following code to authenticate a password, and it
is successful, complete the <CFIF> Statement:

However, it shoots right to the <CFELSE> part which
says password cannot be authenticated. The password exists and is
in the database, so I'm confused as to why this no longer works.
Especially since I have not changed this code in quite some time
and it was working fine. Please help

If you haven't already, turn on CF debugging and see what
query you are actually sending to the SQL server. If you're problem
isn't obvious at first glance, paste the resulting sql code into
query analyzer and run it there to see what happens.
Also use <cfdump var="#checkpass#"> right after you
</cfquery> to see what actually got returned to coldfusion.
You may also consider removing the count() aggr function from the
sql and letting it return rows and cfdumping those instead of just
the count() - as this may be more telling as what's really going
on.

Help! Safari Autofill stopped working for no reason.

My Safari autofill has suddenly stopped working. It used to be that when a form came up on safari I could start filling it out and hit tab and it would fill in the entire form. Now it looks like it might fill in that line, but if I hit tab it doesn';t even complete the line that is highlighted. I think this started to happen after I did the latest OS X software update -- I am now running 10.4.11. I checked autofill on safari and it seems to have all the appropriate boxes checked. And if I go to the pull down menu and pull down edit and do autofill forms, it will do it. But why won't it do it using tab any more?

HT4946 i want to backup my iPhone to my new iMac but my backup is selected to Encrypt Local backup and my password does not work.

I am trying to backup my iPhone on my new iMac iTunes. It is currently backed up on my PC and encrypted. Both PC and iMac iTunes have Encrypted backup selected. My password does not work for either iMac or PC. Should I go ahead and try to backup to my iMac iTunes.

Sorry to hear about your phone jb111jb! We'll do everything we can to help find the best route! The only way to remove the password is flashing the device, but that will erase all the content. Have you ever backed up using Verizon Cloud or Google Sync? Do you have a memory card?

Oc4jadmin not working for application server control in SOA suite 10.1.3.1.

Hi,
We have installed the SOA suite, and I can login to the various components using oc4jadmin/password (bpel, esb, rules author), but for some reason that oc4jadmin password is not working for Application Server Control, which is the only piece of this I really need to log in to.
Any thoughts on what is going wrong?

Maybe you change this password internally for another application (such BPEL, WSM,etc) and didn't make change for your main OC4J container.
You can try to change this password by...
1. Open the file [OASHome]\j2ee\home\config\system-jazn-data.xml
2. Find the section that looks like this

[name]oc4jadmin[name]
[display-name]OC4J Administrator[display-name]
[guid]88836370D11611DC9F30F9C1CD6F1A73[guid]
[description]OC4J Administrator[description]
[credentials]{903}F+iG1A46edXG9RdfY0pD2O4Ge/qyEjsg[credentials]

3. Replace the value separated by the "Credentials" starting and ending tags with your new desired password, prefixed with an exclamation point
Example:

[description]OC4J Administrator[description]
[credentials]!newpassword[credentials]

4. Save the file and restart OAS
This should not affect other applications.

If you don't know your passcode for iPad, you have to restore your iPad as a new device in iTunes on your computer.

Save for web not working for .PNG?

When I slice up a .psd file and then go file > save for web and select to save the images as .png it does not work for some reason. No matter what I select it only uses jpeg. I am using Photoshop CS2.
Any suggestions?

As Zeno said, file format selection is per slice, not a global override. Select al lslices, then pick the PNG options.
