Help.  My PC doesn't recognize only MY IPod Nano (out of three)

Hi-
Me, my hubby and daughter all have our own Nano's and our PC has Windows XP.
Today, suddenly, my Nano is not recognized by the PC. I have checked the wire and USB port in my hubby's account with his Nano and everything is fine.
Mine won't display "do not connect", does not appear in Itunes and does not appear in the sub directories of "my computer". It charged when I connected but I can't update it.
Any ideas what could be wrong in my XP account, or, is my IPod port just fried?? (it's less than one year old and was working fine as of last week's updating. It hasn't been left in extreme cold or heat.)
Please help!
Sandy

Oh, i forgot.
I tried my Nano in both my hubby's and daughter's XP accounts. The PC just doesn't see my Nano anywhere leading me to think it's an issue with the port (is that what it's called). The wire works in the other Nanos.
The only thing I haven't tried from the apple suggestions is restarting my IPod. I am afraid to do so as it still works and if it's truly fried somehow, at least I can listen to the songs that are on it.
I don't have the extended warranty and it's apparently $249 to service the Nano...that is more than I paid for it in February.
Grrr,
Sandy

I guess the engineers need work?

Have you been able to get the ISO on that camera before. Did you have the camera set to Auto?
All of my Canon cameras do not record the specific ISO even though a specific ISO is set. The only Canon file I have that gives an ISO in iPhoto is from a Canon EOS 30D. I have Konica files that provide ISO in iPhoto as does a Nikon D100. The Canon point and shot cameras, s10, s100, s110, s400, s410 and the SD700 IS do not record the specific ISO value. It just give Light Source-Auto when viewed in an application that can read all of the fields.

I restored the ipod to factory settings 4 times and in my ipod summary it says I have a 22gb ipod???? How do I make it recognize my 60gb ipod??? PLEASE HELP.

  • Help!  iPhoto doesn't recognize my camera anymore

My Pentax Optio S4 has worked great for the last couple of years - when I plugged in the USB cable, iPhoto opened and all went well. Now all of a sudden nothing happens, and iPhoto doesn't recognize the camera and neither does Image Capture. Did I inadvertantly DO something, or does anybody know what happened and how to get my seamless importing back?

Move the "com.apple.iPhoto.plist" and the "com.apple.ImageCaptureApp.plist" files from your user's "Library >Preferences" folder to the trash and reset the Image Capture preferences to recognize your camera.

Iphoto doesn't recognize my Kodak Z730 Easyshare cameranow. Been using it for over three years and as of two months ago the Apple doesn't recognize the files. Camera works fine on my step mothers Apple just not on mine.  Anyone been through this already? I tried printing to a disk and loading that way. No luck. I think getting one of the auto updates from Apple may have screwed it up. Only thing I can think of. Has to be a way to fix it. ( I hope ! )

  • My computer doesn't recognize my "used" ipod shuffle

How do I get my computer to recognize my "used" ipod shuffle?

See how easy it was to state those important facts.  My mind-reading superpower is not working this week...
I know how to connect to the UBS port correctly
I wasn't talking about the USB port end of the cable.  I was talking about the plug that connects to the headphones jack on the shuffle.  That connection can initially be tighter than expected for some people, so make sure it is fully inserted into the headphones jack.  You should feel it click into place.
I have one short cable and a cable with a port to dock the shuffle. (it lights up)
If that second one is a third-party cable, make sure it is described as being for the 3rd and 4th gen shuffle.  A cable that is for the older 2nd gen shuffle does not work, because the connector plug is different.  So, it's possible that you have only one cable that is designed to work withe the 4th gen shuffle?
Both my shuffles are brand new from Amazon. (I returned one as I thought it was bad)
IF you returned one of the shuffles, you only have one on-hand to trouble-shoot with at the moment?  "3 bad iPods"?  What model is the third iPod?  It doesn't connect to your computer and iTunes either?  Or maybe you are saying you had three shuffles total and returned one, so now you have two?  Confusing...
It seems unlikely that you'd get three (or even two) shuffles that do not connect consecutively.  So it still seems to me like it's related to software on the computer, IF it's not one of the things mentioned above.  This document has advice on things to try, when both the computer (Windows) and iTunes do not recognize the shuffle as being connected
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1369
Some of the points you have already tried, and some do not apply to the shuffle.

  • WINDOWS XP DOESN'T RECOGNISE USB FOR IPOD NANO 2GB

    HELP!
We recently bought 2 i pod nanos in Florida, returned to the UK where we set about connecting them to our pc - pc doesn't even recognise the USB cable, but does recognise a friend's nano which we have tried. We didn't get a cd with the ipods, can someone please give us some advice? apple support website useless.
    Thanks in advance

First of all, try another port on your computer. Some ports are not connected direct to the motherboard and do not recognize the iPod as well as those that are. Reset the iPod each time you connect it to another port.
Then try with the iPod in forced disk mode.

  • Only my IPod Nano isn't working??

    Hi-
Me, my daughter and my husband all have IPod Nanos. We also have Windows XP. I allowed my Nano to completely empty two weeks ago. I recharged and everything's been fine until today. My PC won't recognize my IPod. I've checked the cable, the USB yadda yadda. I can connect my hubby's IPod and my daughter's IPod t othis PC - fine. Using the same USB and connection wire, my IPod doesn't exist??? The PC doesn't see my Nano in my XP user account.
    Anyone know what's going on?

hmmm. other nanos show up fine on the same ports, you're using a known-good USB cable ... yeah, i think it might be time to check the wee darling in for service, Sandy.

  • Why doesn't my fifth generation ipod nano work with my Toyota Yaris?

Hello – The charging feature on my new fifth generation ipod nano doesn’t work with the factory glove compartment adapter that came with my 2008 Toyota Yaris. It plays music, etc but does not charge the ipod when connected.
My third generation nano charged perfectly with my yaris until it was run over and crushed recently. My nano gen 5 replacement doesn’t work the same with my Yaris. Can anyone help?

I cannot say for sure, I don't know anything about the toyota yaris. However, if that system was built to work with older firewire based iPods, then it will not charge new USB based units. There are converters out there you can get do deal with this.

  • My iTunes won't recognize my new iPod nano 5th generation

Alright, my parents got my the new iPod nano for Christmas, and when I connected it to my Windows Vista, to charge and sync, it was charged, but it was not recognized in iTunes. I tried updating and the 5R's but it wouldn't work. iTunes is acting like it doesn't exist. Help?

I had a similar issue with a XP machine. The Nano charged but I never got the onscreen setup instructions and Itunes did not list the device. I tried a lot of technical stuff with no luck and finally spoke with an Apple Expert.
Here was the fix for me:
I downloaded Itunes to another computer (also XP, same firewall, etc). Plugged in the Nano and miraculously I was able to set it up, name the device and also update it with the latest software. When I plugged it back into the PC it recognized it just fine. Must be something flukey with the setup or maybe the update helped fix a few bugs.
If you have other computers available, try it on them first with latest Itunes version. Hope this helps.

  • Itunes7 will not recognize 1st Gen Ipod Nano but Windows XP will. Why?

    Hi,
My daughter has a year old ipod nano that is recognized by windows but not itunes 7 on multiple computers. I have tried everything short of restore but it won't let me do that without itunes recognizing the ipod. I ran diagnostic and everything was green; however, the report kept reporting this error:

It says this three times in the diagnostic. Any help anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated!!!

Try this otherwise surf this site as there are is a lot of helpful material about this very problem
Plug in Ipod and when windows recognises it right click on the ipod in my computer then select format. You will get several options first try selecting quick format. then exit and restart itunes. Itunes will say it needs to reset factory settings. Do this and follow prompts. This did not work for me. But it may for you. I had to do a full format inside my computer which simply means that I did not tick the quick format box. Then repeated the itunes process. This still did not work so as a last ditch effort after all this I did another quick format in my computer and this finally worked .
So three windows reformats and three itunes resets and finally itunes accepted my ipod again
