Help! My screen fades to blue.

It just started doing this. I have to reboot my mac in order for my screen to come back to normal.

Did you add any software or drivers before this started happening? If you start in Safe mode (ref: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107393), and run your mini for awhile, does it still fade?
If you have AppleCare, you can run the diagnostics program (TechTool Deluxe) that came with the AppleCare CD (or download it from here: https://support.apple.com/techtooldeluxe/main?id=dl) to throughly test your mini for problems.

  • Screen fades to blue and back

I just bought the new Mac Mini 2 days ago. The symptom I am seeing is that every so often the screen will just fade to the pale blue screen for about 5 seconds, then come back to the original display. This can happen when I am not touching it, or when I am in the middle of moving the mouse or typing.
The machine is almost untouched from its original settings and it started almost right away. Happens irregularly, but roughly a couple of times per hour. All I have done to the machine is update to 10.6.1, install Firefox and Skype. Does this sound like a hardware problem?

Jason - thanks for the reply and the link. It turned out that the video connector on the back of the system was not tightly connected any more, although it was originally. I think the problem was that the mini-DVI to DVI connector and the attached monitor cable was hanging over the edge of the table, and I guess the combined weight was enough to pull the plug very slightly out of the socket, just enough so a slight bump on the table would cause it to disconnect momentarily. The mini-DVI connector is not as secure a fit as a regular DVI that can be screwed into place. It's a pity it doesn't have a more solid "click into place" action.
I pushed it in again and then repositioned the cable so it did not hang over the table edge any more, so far no more blue screens.
    Thanks again.

  • Screen fades to blue screen continually (video attached)

Here is what is going on. On boot the computer would lock up after the spinning gear. Or it seem to. It would get past the apple logo, flash pink for a second and go to a white screen. I could hear the hard drives being accessed but it never seemed to come out of this white screen after waiting 10 or minutes. So I ran the hardware test on this computer. It found no problems, so rebooted and oddly enough I the computer booted fine. However occasionally after being logged in the computer would flash to a blue screen and fade back in. This is the same animation you see when you log into your machine right before you see the desktop. In some cases it will continue over and over (see the youtube link bellow). Even booting off the original restore disc this issue kept continuing. Which leads me to believe its a hardware issue. Ive tried, resting the PRAM, SMC, ran the hardware test a second time, ran a check on the hard drive using disk utility, fixed the permissions, swapped out dvi cables, and changed out the power strip. I am leaning towards it being a video card issue, but i cant be for sure. The problem is intermittent, so its hard to track down. Has anyone seen an issue like this before?????

I've just recently upgraded to Snow Leopard 10.6.3, when this blue screen issue started to bug me. I tried resetting the
RAMs and GFX card, but to no good result. I also tried to remove the PCIe-424 card, and found out that this causes to stuck the system in blue screen. I was wondering maybe MOTU has new released driver for OS X 10.6. I only downloaded the latest driver for mac which is for 10.4 and up. But whenever I'm plugging back the PCI card in, the blue screen problem still occurs and cannot continue with the installation procedure anymore.
Hope someone could give me idea on any solution for this.

  • ALMOST STARTS THEN FADES TO BLUE

Each time I power up the screen comes up, the programs along the bottom come up, but before the apple menu across the top appears the screen fades to blue then comes back, 5-10 seconds later it fades again to blue, this repeats forever. ANY IDEAS???

I have seen this exact behavior on my Titanium G4
since 2003 running every current system since that
time. Certainly the problem, if it is one, isn't
    confined to the Intel machines.
That's interesting new information. None of the several PowerPC iBooks I owned ever showed it. Did you always have it on your TiBook or just sometimes?
    I have never heard of
anybody having a failure or crash during the blue
    fade and resurrection.
Neither did I. But since it sometimes does it and sometimes not and always seems to do it just when I don't wanna see it (such as in a meeting, just looking something up), I find it a major annoyance. I don't see why I should accept inconsistent operation like this with a 2500,- laptop.
It's pretty much the same with the not-going-to-sleep issue. If I select "sleep" from the Apple menu, it always sleeps straight away. Upon closing the lid, it sometimes does, sometimes not. Therefore, it is non-critical, if you accept that you can't just close the lid. However, things like "close the lid and go" were what made me an outright Apple addict in the first place (and I even had and loved my Newton .
BTW I think that the "blue screen issue" also relates to the blue screen problem. The MBP never will fail to notice that you closed the lid. But for some reason, sometimes it will only turn off the screen and continue to run. The only instance where you would like to have such a behaviour under normal conditions is... when you have an external display connected.

  • HELP!!! Screen Fades away when open or close the s...

    Dear All,
I am Orlando, owner of a Nokia c6-00 phone. Recently I updated my phone to v 41.
and after that a strange issue has occoured. My phone screen fades away when i open or close this sider. I tried googling up this issue. But I guess I am the first one having this issue. I have already tried RESET FACTORY SETTINGS, and reinstalling the upgrade. But of no use.
I have no idea whether it is an hardware issue or a software one.
So, Guys please help me with this issue.
    Thanx..!!!

    @awesome93
Probably no alternative but to backup essential data then "hard reset" by keying in *#7370# followed by 12345 (default Nokia lock code unless altered by user) to exclude any software corruption; although it seems a strange co-incidence there maybe issues with screen flex cable or it's connectors.

my iphone 4 screen turns into blue, and i can't do anything because my power button is broken. How to fix my iphone back? Please help me

I am having the SAME exact problem! Except instead of lock button broken it's my home button so I can't do the whole "put in recovery mode" deal. My screen only says "tap the home button 3 times" and it has my screen locked until I hit the home button but since it is broken I can't get in my phone at all. I have all of my work info in my phone so I'm screwed and can't get any help. PLEASE let me know if you find a way around this...!!!
    Thanks!

  • Screen switches to blue and then fades back to normal repeatedly

My Mac Pro's screens have started switching to blue and then fading back to show the normal screen contents. Each cycle takes a couple seconds and looks like my Mac thinks it's waking up from sleep. It starts off happening a few times a minute and gets faster until it's happening once every 5 seconds or so. The mouse goes unresponsive just before it switches to blue and then comes back to life when the blue fades out. Interestingly this has been occurring every morning since I started using Snow Leopard; once I shutdown and start back up again it's fine (until the next morning). No messages in the console to indicate what's going on.
Has anybody seen this or do you by chance know what's happening? I power off the monitors at night but leave the system on (not sleeping), so it's interesting that it seems to happen every morning, about 15-30 minutes after I start using it.
    Thanks,
    Adam

Nah, I'm on latest Snow Leopard version. I think the issue is actually RAM as I installed 8gb worth on top of the 4gb I already have in the Mac Pro at teh weekend. Rise B was not seated right at first so I had to open it up and re-seat it - it then showed all 12gb
I've just had a look and it's showing Riser B as empty for some reason again!! I know it's not the memory itself but for some reason this whole board does not want to go back in properly - grr!!
Will try again in a mo and see if it makes a difference
As it happens while i get the same result as you do with the blue blinking I have a few minutes in between each fade to blue and back again! AND it closes all applications at same time too!

  • Hi, I have an iMac which I just booted up and have a white screen with a blue folder with a question mark blinking on and off. Any help would be appreciated. Tommy

Hi, I have an iMac which I just booted up and have a white screen with a blue folder with a question mark blinking on and off. Any help would be appreciated. Tommy

That means your iMac could not find a system to use for startup.  That may mean the internal hard drive has become faulty, or the hard drive mechanism is fine, but the startup volume ("Macintosh HD" unless you renamed it) may have some type of data corruption that makes it unbootable.
First, you should try resetting PRAM
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
and if that does not help, use this procedure to reset SMC (power management).  If your iMac is from 2008, this is the procedure for Intel (not PowerPC) Macs.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
(This forum category is for "iMac (PPC)," so if this iMac is older (with a PowerPC processor), please post back.)
Disconnect all peripheral devices.  When you connect it back to power, if you have been using a power strip of some type, try connecting it directly to a wall outlet, by itself (at least initially).  Start up with nothing but the power cord connected, then add only standard mouse and keyboard.  If it works, run it that way for a while.
If PRAM and SMC reset have no effect, you should insert your Mac OS X installation disc (for the currently installed system) in the optical drive, and restart with the C key held down.  This should get you to the Installer screen, where you can run Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
In Disk Utility, does the internal hard drive appear in the sidebar?  If so, select Macintosh HD in the sidebar and go to the First Aid tab.  Use Repair Disk.  If an error is found, note if Disk Utility was able to fix it or not.
You can then quit Disk Utility and attempt to restart normally.

  • Sometimes when I quit Firefox, it makes my Mac screen turn solid blue. The computer does not crash, but I can't see anything. Help please!

Sometimes when I quit Firefox, it makes my Mac screen display solid blue color. The computer does not crash, but I can't see anything. Opening programs, nor hitting any shortkey makes the display work again, so I have to shut down.
I am using Macbook pro, OS 10.6.8, 4 GB memory, 2 ghz intel processors i7. This has happened about 6 times in the last 3 months. Seems to be getting more frequent. Sometimes happens after using Netflix streaming video, sometimes after browsing sites that don't play video. I frequently use Pandora, but have Firefox set to dump cache, memory, etc. after each use.

Have you tried a safe start by holding the shift key when you boot? If that works, and it can take a while to complete, see if a regular boot now works. If it does, you need to free up space on your hard drive.
If a safe boot doesn't work, you need to either boot from an OS X DVD or go into target disk mode to connect via firewire cable to another mac to free up space on your hard drive. You need 5GB min, with 10% to 15%, or more, better, for systems usage.  If you have a backup, move some data files to it, erase them and empty the trash.

  • Cinima Display fades Between blue and the deskop after my Mac Pro sleeps

    Hello all,
I really hope someone can help. I have a Mac Pro Running 10.5.4 and a 23 Inch Cinema Display. When I wake my machine from sleeping the desktop appears then about a second later the screen fades blue. After a second of blue it fades back to the desktop. This continues on forever and the machine is unusable until I cut the power and restart the machine.
The same issue will happen if the resolution on the monitar is changed.
I have tried to reset the pram, reset the smc, take out the graphics card and then place it back. I switch the cable from port one to two of my graphics card. I also reinstalled leopard as well as downgrading back to tiger.
When I hook the monitor up to my macbook it sleeps and awakes fine.
Finally this morning I realized that if I discounted using the monitors built in hub then the screen will awaken without issue.
Any idea's? Has anyone had a similar issue?

Hi there. It could be one of your drives is actually defective and causing I/O to slow down to a crawl. To verify this, try inserting the DVD that came with your Mac Pro and restarting the machine while holding down the 'C' key. This will boot up the machine off the DVD and bypass your hard disks. If it boots quicker there could be a problem with the drives or something else.

  • Mid 2009 13" MacBook pro mini-dp to Cinema Display screen jumps from blue to desktop

I'm using a kanex brand iAdapt mini-dp to dvi adapter to connect my macbook pro to my 23" cinema display from early 2007, but it seems like the macbook is having trouble recognizing that the display is connected. The screen will go blue for a second, then show the desktop, then go back to blue. it repeats like this for as long as the adapter is plugged in.
I've gotten the screen to connect properly twice, but as soon as I unplug my laptop and try to plug it back in another day, I run into the same issue as before. I've seen other discussions about screen flickering, but this isn't really a flicker. Not sure if anyone else has experienced this, though it seems likely that this has happened before.
    Any solutions? Thanks!
