Help my tool bars have vanished!

When I opened Illustrator CS5 today I notice all of my tool bars have vanished. I would like to know how to get them back. I'm using Windows.

Yay! it worked! The CTRL-AlT-Shift worked. I have to say when I contacted Adobe support they were no help whatsoever, just kept wanting me to buy a new program. I'm disappointed in the company's loyalty to their customers, especially for those of us who will use their products for a long time. While I don't intend to buy every updated version of the software that comes about I intend to buy them. If I'm going to spend $300+ for a program I better get lifetime support for that program.

Move the mouse pointer to the top of the screen.
Menu bar and Safari toolbar will be visible now.

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in Full Screen mode with all toolbars hidden.
* Press F11 to toggle full screen mode (Firefox/File > Full Screen)
If the menu bar is hidden then press the F10 key or hold down the Alt key, that should make the menu bar appear.
Make sure that toolbars like the "Navigation Toolbar" and the "Bookmarks Toolbar" are visible: "View > Toolbars"
* If items are missing then open the Customize window via "View > Toolbars > Customize" or via "Firefox > Options > Toolbar Layout" (Linux, Windows)
* If a missing item is in the toolbar palette then drag it back from the Customize window on the toolbar
* If you do not see an item on a toolbar and in the toolbar palette then click the "Restore Default Set" button to restore the default toolbar set up.

All of a sudden all tool bars have disappeared. they still work on internet explorer

It just started. I start firefox and it opens with none of the tool bars. The only way I can close it is to go to task manager. I can't access any bookmarks or anything else. I tried to open in safe mode by starting with the space key depresed. Also tried to accss using the alt key. No luck
Things work with internet explorer, but I don't have the bookmarks saved there.

Help! System Prefs. have vanished!

Hi,
I have iMac 2GHz Intel with 1 GB SDRAM running 10.4.8.
When I go to Apple Menu and System Prefs. nothing appears on the screen. File must have been corrupted or lost somehow.
How do I get this to work again?

The issues are often affected with the menu bar driven programs such for Help Menu and Menu bar extra, Toolbar customized utilities or application-specific menus, or utilities that add in an item for the System Preferences. Uninstall that types of application to test the symptoms.
Also, verify whether you install third-party applications that attempt to modify with the Apple menu’s contents. It is defined by the system so that third-party applications are not allowed to modify the implementation.
Preferences for System Configuration are persistently stored in /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist which is a hierarchically structured database. If you think this plist is corrupted, remove it into temporarily created a folder on the Desktop and restart the computer to check the reproducibility. If this does not solve the issues, you may want to put it back to the original location.
Two more scenarios you may want to consider:
If you think the symptoms would be caused by user-specific issues, try creating a new user account to test.
Because the system configuration storing mechanism is intertwined with systems widely such as /var/db, frameworks and etc, you may need to perform "Archive and Install" solution.

There used to be a bar with my frequently visited sites just below the search bar. It disappeared with the upgrade. How do I get it back? I don't understand the terminology in the help video

Was it the Bookmarks Toolbar? You can display the Bookmarks Toolbar below the main toolbar in a number of ways.
* right-click a blank area of the tab bar > Bookmarks Toolbar
* right-click the "+" button on the tab bar > Bookmarks Toolbar
* tap the Alt key to open the classic menu bar (File, Edit, View), the click View > Toolbars > Bookmarks Toolbar

Help! All calendars have vanished!!

I use iCal regularly. When I opened the program yesterday, it was blank! No events, no to-dos, and no calendars at all! I typically have about 6 or 7 calendars, some subscribed, some not, and not a one shows up in the list. The physical files for the calendars are still on the computer in the appropriate place (~/Library/Application Support/iCal/Sources/etc...), but they do not show up in iCal. I can't import them either. Also when I go to create a new calendar, it shows up briefly (for a second) in the calendar list, and then disappears. It's almost like the calendars are hidden. I don't have a backup database (I know, not so smart) so I have nothing to revert to. On my iPod, though, all of my calendars that were synced show up with all the events. I just synced my iPod, and my iCal is still blank, but all the correct information is still on the iPod. Any suggestions on how I might uncover/display, locate etc... my calendars?

Well, I tried removing ALL the iCal preferences, with no success. So I tried your second suggestion. I moved the sources folder to the desktop, and deleted the rest of the files in the folder. I opened iCal, and as I was about to import the files from the old Sources folder, ALL of my calendars reappeared!! I checked, and a new sources folder with all my calendars was in the iCal folder. Perhaps something in the old Sources folder was corrupt. Regardless, I have my calendars back...and I'm going to back them up as well!
As far as anything changing over the last couple of days - nothing that I can think of that would make sense...nothing new installed recently at all. The only change was in the usage of the computer - I used to keep iCal open all the time, but I've been moving around from place to place much more than I used to, and therefore not always keeping it open. So it's been opened and closed a bunch more than usual, but other than that nothing's changed. Don't know, though, how that could have caused any problems.
Anyway, it's fixed, which is what's most important. Thanks for all your help!

Why does the Welcome to firefox tab open with my google tab every time I open the browser? And why can't the browser hold any add-ons I downloaded? I loose then when I close the browser, even tool bars have to be reinstalled every time I open the browser

Every time I open the browser the Welcome to Firefox tab is the first tab, then a second tab opens and thats my google, then a 3rd tab opens for me to reinstall my toolbar. This has been happening for a good year. Updates have not fixed it. Others have this problem. I did a search for an answer, the question is out there but no answer. Now if I go into add ons and add a background Theme or an extension it all is gone when I exit the browser. When I open the browser again I get all 3 tabs and have to install my toolbar again. I DO NOT want to reinstall as I will loose all my saved data, passwords, bookmarks, everything! I have had this computer for a year, Windows Vista x64 bit. Its not the computer, it's the browser. Need help with tool bar button to clear 10 fields on form

I have 167 forms with 138 fields, I need to blank out or clear just 10 of them or so, can I create a butotn or script that is outside each document so I can open each one, andc lick this button?
I don't want to add a button to all 167 pdf files. Or better yet script to open them all and blanks out the fields, evey form is the same so the field names are the same.

This would be easy to do as a batch process (aka Action). The following JavaScript will do it:
// Create an array with the list of fields to reset
var fa = ["text1", "text2", "text32", "text4", "text5", "text6", "text7", "text8", "text9", "text10"];
// Reset the fields
resetForm(fa);
This will set each of the named fields to its default value. If the default value might be different than blank, replace the last line with:
for (var i = 0; i < fa.length; i++) {
getField(fa[i]).value = "";
Replace "text1"..."text10" in the first line with the actual names of the fields you want to clear.

How do I get back my AT&T Yahoo Home Page and Tool Bar?

I am a senior citizen with little computer knowledge. I cannot cope with changes to my home page because I do not have the knowledge/skills to undo the changes your program has installed.
AT&T is my Internet Service Provider. Firefox is my browser. Right? When I installed the newer version of Firefox it usurped my AT&T Yahoo Home Page and Task Bar. I want my old home page and task bar back.
I used system recovery to go back a couple hrs. prior to when the new Fire Fox was installed and lost Firefox & At&T. Was in a great state of frustration when I couldn't get system recovery up after going to control panel. System recovery finally popped up again and I went forward to after installation of new Fire Fox and have system up again.
I am unable to read up on new Fire Fox program now. All I want is my old AT&T Yahoo Home Page back with their Task Bar. I can learn new Fire Fox as time permits.
For a non-profit organization I find Fire Fox quite aggressive. That is good when mobilizing us to write or call Congress but not to take over my Home Page.
Will have to admit new Fire Fox sure is faster.
I do want to commend you for taking a stand against what Congress is trying to do and also for your non-intrusive, not obnoxious way of asking for donations. You help inform us and let us know of your need and anyone that is not a free loader with a conscience, I think, would make a donation according to what one can afford. Keep up the good work and the good fight..........please do help me restore my home page back to AT&T with the old task bar.

Why are the menus (File, Edit, View, etc.) missing?
If you're using Windows 7 or Windows Vista, you now have an orange Firefox button that takes the most common functions and puts them in one menu.
To temporarily show the old style menus, just press the Alt key.
To have them shown all the time, right-click on an empty section of the Tab Strip and check Menu Bar in the pop-up menu.

Pressing the Alt key didn't work for me but the latter instruction did the trick.
Check the Navigation Bar too on the pop-up menu if you want your Refresh and Home Icons to show. It took quite a few right-clicks for me before the pop-up menu I needed came up so keep trying until the right menu comes up.

You've moved stuff around so the tabs are at the top instead of my tool bar. I no longer have the means then to copy and paste, print, etc. when I pull up information I might want to keep from a web page. When I downloaded Version 4 a message came across from Firefox that the newer version is not compatible with the Yahoo toolbar. How then do I operate these functions? I'm not a techie, and was happy with my old Firefox. Not a happy camper now. Can you help???

Wow! You know, I tried a variation of that, which was a complete guess, and of course it was absolutely wrong.
I had no idea you could stack DATE_FORMAT one after the other! I researched this for a LONG time and nothing came up like what you suggested, so thank you for this! I hope that this thread helps others who are or will soon be in my shoes. This forum is the BEST!!!

The problem started when I turned on the computer this morning. I tried to install Mozilla 4 from your website and that installed but I still have nothing on the top.

It may be due to Firebug. Seeing as how you're a web developer, it's very possible you have this installed. The latest version, 1.7X a10, appears to cause everything you described. I downgraded to "a8" and that seems to have fixed everything.
I also recreated a profile from scratch before trying this out, so I can't guarantee it's definitely Firebug.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.
