Help!!!  Nano in "disk mode"

On my screen is says "disk mode" "OK to disconnect" ... Now what do I do. It seems to be frozen.

Got the same message today. Don't know what it means, but if you reset your ipod, it seems to work again. To reset it, plug in your nano. Flip the hold switch off and on. Hold down the menu and centre of the wheel for 10-15 seconds and it will reset. (The instructions for resetting in the manual says 6 seconds....but I needed to hold it for longer). It seems to be working now. Good luck.

  • ITunes 7.0 ONLY recognizes nano in disk mode

    Hi All,
This little problem of mine has been driving me nuts for the past 2 days.
I recently got an ipod nano as a gift (not the second gen) and wanted to try it out. So I installed the latest iTunes 7.0 (and rebooted...), charged the nano to full battery, then plugged it in. The nano shows "do not disconnect," and Windows shows the drive in My Computer and I can navigate inside the few folders it has. When I open up iTunes though, I don't see the nano no matter how long I wait. Doing a hard reset of the nano (action + menu) doesn't help. However, when I put the nano into disk mode (action + play) and reconnect to the computer, iTunes magically recognizes it, lets me name it, and even lets me sync my music. I can't directly drop the music in the nano for some reason (there's a lock icon next to the disk space indicator).
I updated the nano the latest version through iTunes and even tried doing a complete factory reset. None of this gets iTunes to recongize my nano unless it's in disk mode. I have a 5G video iPod that I had filled on another windows machine, so I connected it using the same cable/computer/itunes combination, and that gets recognized no problem.
Has anyone had the same experience and perhaps found a solution to this?
    Thank you
    nano 2gb Windows XP Pro

I am having a similar problem. New Nano.. won't allow me to play mp4 so I tried to restore. It won't restore and then doesn't recognize.
I love how I have a 30g Video, Shuffle, and Nano, but I can't play my hundreds of dollars of itunes music on my nano to run. Someone needs to make a commercial making fun of itunes.

  • HT4235 Itunes only sees ipod nano in disk mode and still won't sync it

I have to place my ipod nano in disk mode for itunes (or Windows for that matter) to find it. In disk mode Windows and Itunes see the ipod and it passes all the diagnostic tests save for the sync test where it can no longer see the ipod and apparently a file is also not found. I'm ready to just reset it, but am unable to make that happen.
This problem began when I downloaded some songs from Amazon and fumbled the job purchasing and downloading some of them twice. Not very smart, but it was late. Anyway, I also downloaded their Cloud player and had it pass the songs to itunes. It was in itunes that I saw the duplicate copies of the songs. Itunes and the cloud player proceeded to butt heads, I deleted the the extra song copies and also uninstalled the Amazon cloud player. Then itunes went into the state I've described above.
    I'd appreciate any help.

  • IPOD nano in DISK MODE, but still not RECOGNIZED

My Ipod Nano has stopped being recognized by my PC (Windows XP OS). After reading the discussion topics here I had a hope that after switching it to DISK MODE, the PC might recognize my Nano. However, it still doesn't. I hope the Wizrds out here rectify the problem I am facing with my IPod.

Try restoring your iPod (in Disk Mode) from somebody else's computer. (This might replace everything on it with their music for the time being, but you already seem willing to wipe your iPod, so it should be OK.) If it works, then try to do the same thing again on yours. But the problem in this case would be not with your iPod but with your computer. Try reinstalling iTunes. If that doesn't work, then the issue is probably a more general one with your Windows installation and it may be difficult to find help here.
If on the other hand your iPod won't restore in disk mode from ANY computer, then the only option I see remaining is to take it in for servicing.

  • Ipod stuck on apple logo, resetting multiple times has not helped, cannot access disk mode or diagnostic mode, and computer will not recognise device. Help?!

Help! Info as above. Ipod nano 3g, 8GB connecting to Windows XP.
I've trawled the forums hard and tried the multiple reset method, disk mode, diagnostic mode (neither of which I can access), charging, discharging, plugging it into the computer, and the wall.
Is there anything else I can do?? Very sad - can't listen to my tunes on the move now...

  • Help with Target Disk Mode

I'm having some problems starting up a Power Mac G4 into target disk mode. I've done it before, a couple weeks ago, but now every time I try it instead starts up into open firmware mode. I can't figure out what's going on, any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Welcome to the forum.
Firstly, let's check a few things. Have a look at APPLE'S KNOWLEDGE BASE on how to do it. If that's what you're doing then report back.

  • Ipod Nano in disk mode

Is it a bad idea to keep syncing my ipod using disk mode? This is the only way Itunes 9.1 will not crash when connected to my ipod.

    Hello Livinghost,
Is it a bad idea to keep syncing my ipod using disk mode? This is the only way Itunes 9.1 will not crash when connected to my ipod.
No. Users you manually manage their iPod's contents must always have this option enabled. And if it keeps your iPod from crashing for the time being or until Apple releases another update, then stick with it.

  • Help stuck in Disk Mode :/

After charging my ipod for an hour i returned to a blank screen, my ipod wasnt charging and now wouldnt turn on. After getting advise from a friend, i was told to hold down the middle button and the lower button (play button)for at least 6 seconds, unfortunatly on doing that my ipod turned on and now says disk mode up the top, with a big tick in the middle of the screen. I can now not switch off the ipod, yet the battery keeps running down.
If any one whos been in this situation before or knows what to do can supply any ideas or solution in how to fix this problem would be appricated.
    cheers.

Well tell your "friend" he/she doesn't know what they're talking about!!
Reset the iPod by toggling the hold switch on and off, then hold down the menu and select (centre) buttons until you see the Apple logo.
May take several attempts and is best done connected to power.

  • Nano OK in Windows, not in Itunes except in 'disk mode'

I have a 4GB nano that is recognised by Windows but NOT by iTunes 7...
The only way to get it recognised is to place the nano in 'disk mode'.
Once this is done it is seen and you can sync with it. Once done you
have to reset it to get it to work!
I have restored it and in Windows it's fine
    Any help appreciated.

Which USB port are you connecting to? Do you have other USB devices that could be interfering?

Also, have you checked to see if you have the most up-to-date USB Root Driver: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305136 Even if no updated drivers are available, read the last part of the article and let Windows reload the USB Root Driver.

Click the eject icon in the source list, next to your iPod. To turn it off permanently, go to iPod preferences and uncheck "Enable Disk Mode".

    Welcome to Apple Discussions, CherryPie!
Could you tell me if you have set your iPod Nano to 'Disk Mode' using the latest release of iTunes? If not, then this is your problem.

  • Do I have to continue using disk mode?

So way back when the iPhone came out and messed up iTunes for everyone who had Nanos, I spent the entire time trying to figure out how to get iTunes to recognize my 1st Gen. 1gb Nano. My 60gb and my 1st Gen. shuffle were recognized without any trouble. Finally today I get iTunes to recognize my Nano, but it will only do it when I set it in disk mode.
I use my nano for running so I am wondering if I have to set my nano into disk mode EVERY time I connect it inorder to send my results to Nike?

when i restore the ipod, iTunes no longer recognizes it. the only time it is recognized is when it is in disk mode.
