Help! nano not recognized by toshiba

Hello! I know that iPod connectivity with Toshiba laptops seems to be quite a problem here, and unfortunatelly, I have become the next victim of this frustrating issue.
Yesterday I got the iPod nano 1G, installed the latest iPod updater, the latest iTunes, but both of them do not recognize the iPod. I roamed through the discussions here, I tried the 5Rs, I tried HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool numerous times, turned the USB connections off and on, and so on and so on, but absolutely nothing will help. I think there's nothing I haven't tried yet, expect for THE solution...
Windows recognizes the iPod as a F:Removable Disk witrh nothing in it, you cannot format it. If you try formatting with the HP USB Tool, it will say "Device is protected" and if I try to change the drive name, it will not even show up in the Disk Manager.
I came until the point where iPod Updater tries to restore the iPod, but at the end it will say "Cannot mount".
It's a desaster! My iPod Shuffle was working perfectly with this rather new laptop. (I broke it, that's why I bought the nano) I expected to enjoy the nano in the same wyay, just plug and play, but this has become a nightmare since NOTHING seems to be working.
If anyone can help me please, I would regain my faith in apple again... thank you!

i solved the problem!!
even no one replied to this, i will describe shortly what i did, for every one who runs into the same problem!
the reason itunes could not recognize ipod was that the usb 2.0 drivers for my toshiba dynabook were outdated or just BAD.
so i looked for updates for my dynabook, updated everything i could find.
restarted the pc and boom! - itunes and ipod connect and you find me laughing on the floor.
so, i update your system, your usb drives and see if it works. it solved all the other problems i had with my usb connections before (like with my mouse and digital camera).
i described the same thing in this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=580625

I have a 6th gen ipod nano that is not recognized by itunes on my PC (Windows 7). I get an error that it 'could not be identified properly'. I have tried all tips on the apple site to correct the problem, including unistalling and reinstalling itunes twice. Nothing works. Has anyone tried something that worked that is not part of the Apple support page (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3218)? Thank you in advance for any help!

I have followed every troubleshooting page on the apple support site yet my ipod nano 6th gen is not recognized by itunes
I have spent 3 days messing with my pc and have made no real progress.
Then it's time to call Apple tech support while you are still under warranty.  Every iPod comes with complimentary, single-incident telephone technical support within 90 days of your iPod purchase.   If you also purchased AppleCare, then your warranty is extended for technical support and hardware coverage for two years from the original purchase date of your iPod.

  • Nano not recognized by Windows, help!

I just got a second generation Nano, but whenever I plug it into my USB port it will say the following message:
    USB Device Not Recognized
One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it.
I had a first generation Nano that had no problems syncing with iTunes, but that one got corrupted, so I resorted to getting a new one.
I have tried the Five Rs, erased iTunes entirely and redownloaded Version 7.3 by way of the Apple website, and I have gone to the Genius Bar at my local Apple store only to have them give me another Nano with the same results. I don't know what else to do! Please help!

Even if no new drivers are available for your computer, read the last section and update your USB driver.

Try a drive letter Z and do this with all other USB devices other than your keyboard and mouse disconnected (this includes disconnecting your printer).

    Hello,
The cord might be the case, but first, try these suggestions:
Try putting your iPod into disk mode, then try connecting it to your computer again...
<a href="How to put your iPod into disk mode</a>
Do you have a wall charger? If so, then try connecting your iPod to that, and does it charge, or not?
Have you checked this link out?:
    <a href="http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60941">iPod doesn't charge correctly
Does your iPod appear in "My Computer"? If so...
iPod shows up in Windows but not in iTunes
    If not...
iPod missing in "My Computer" or in iTunes
Post back on what happens when you try these things out. I hope this helps!

  • New Nano not Recognized, other iPods work fine

Just got a new Nano. Most recent version of iTunes and the old Mini and 1st generation iPod work fine. The Nano is not recognized by iTunes or Windows. Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks.

You really didn't need to repost the same issue. It sometimes takes awhile for anyone to provide any attempted solutions but eventually someone will respond. Also, it helps to look through the forum because there may be other threads just like yours. I responded to your other one (not sure if the suggestion will help. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93716

  • Ipod Nano not recognized on my computer

My iPod Nano doesn't show up on My Computer or in the ITunes store under devices.
A popup recommends reconnecting the device but it does not help.  It then says to uninstall and reinstall Itunes.
This device used to be recognized on a different pc but we changed out pcs.  Is a Nano only supposed to be recognized on only one Pc?

Try one or more of the following
    > Restart your computer
    > Uninstall & Reinstall iTunes - Windows XP | Windows Vista or 7 | Mac OS X
    > Reset iPod (will not delete everything)
    > Go to My Computer (Windows XP) or Computer (Windows Vista or 7) and see if iDevice shows
    > Restore iPod (will delete everything)
    > Make sure iTunes and/or iOS firmware is up to date

  • 3rd Generation IPOD Nano not recognized

I have two 3rd generation IPOD nanos that are not being recognized by 4 different windows XP systems. One of them is a 4G unit that my daughter has been using for at least half a year. It is not being recognized when plugged into the USB. The other one is a brand new unit that is also not being recognized. I have installed and uninstalled the iTunes software and have the latest. I have reset the IPODS. I have double checked the USB drivers and such. Rebooted. The whole bit. The 5 R's +.
On my system at work, they are not recognized either. However, I plugged in somebody else's 2nd generation IPOD nano and it was immediately recognized and happy. So this is clearly some kind of 3rd gen IPOD nano issue and likely some kind of software issue that has recently happened.

Mate i have had this problem for ages managed to sort it with itunes 7.4 but i have the problem again.
It is becoming very frustrating to say the least, and no matter what you say on these forums or the amount of times i have emailed apple i dont get any answer.
I basically have over 100 punds worth of equipment on myy desk which is a waste.
And no one is helping from apple.

  • Help! Not recognized by Windows / iTunes

When I connect my iPod using USB 2.0, I now get a "USB device not recognized" error on Windows XP. iTunes also does not recognize that iPod is connected.
I believe this problem may have been caused when my iPod was connected to a friend's speakers. When it first connected, the following error message appeared:
"FireWire connections are not supported. To Transfer Songs, connect the USB cable provided".
After pushing the Selct button to gt rid of the error, iPod worked fine in the speakers and continues to work fine with my FM tuner and other devices.
I've tried the following to fix this problem:
    1. 4 of the 5 Rs. (Can't find a way to restore as I can't get iTunes to recognize my iPod).
    2. Reinstalled iTunes.
    3. Simple restart on computer.
    4. System restore on computer.
    5. Tried to update USB drivers.
    6. Tried to load iPod in disk mode.
    7. Went through all of the Apple Support articles for this problem and tried all of the reccomended steps.
As mentioned, my iPod works fine otherwise and I'd hate to have to send it away to be repaired if there is a simple fix. Also, my wife's Nano is working without problem on the same PC, so I have a feeling that this problem is iPod related rather than PC related (though, I could be wrong!)
    Does anybody have any suggestions?
Is there a way to restore iPod manually (i.e. without iTunes)?

Hiya! I have had the same problems and have tried all the suggested ways to fix. None of them have worked. I have also rung the apple tech support helpline and they have told me i need to go to my nearest apple store and get my i-pod tested for errors and as my i-pod is out of its warranty period i will have to pay to have it fixed and pay for the courier for it to be sent to be fixed.
i have found if i plug my i-pod in via USB and the malfunction message appears if i hold down the menu and play buttons so it switches off just before the apple logo appears switch the hold button on sometimes i-tunes will recognise it. It kicks it off again 3-4 minutes later but i manage to get a few songs on in that time.
Its a pain in the backside but this is the only way i can get it to work.
    Hope this helps someone

  • Ipod nano not recognized by computer, driver issues

    Hello All!
I have an ipod nano, first gen, that works just great. Bought another one off of ebay for my husband for Christmas. It looks identical to the one that works - model numbers & year the same - HOWEVER, it is not recognized by iTunes.
I followed an older thread on this forum and followed the directions to download usbstor.sys & usbstor.inf and move to my i368 folder but I still got the same message - something like "Windows highly recommends not installing these drivers because they have not passed logo testing. This could result in serious damage to your computer."
Does anyone know what is the issue? Can it be solved another way? Why does my other nano work? Does anyone know if it is safe to the install usbstor drivers? Help please

    Is this any help?
USB drivers are not installed properly or are out of date.
There's also this: iTunes 7 or later doesn't recognize the iPod.

  • IPod Nano not recognized on Windows 7 or iTunes

I just bought an iPod Nano. Windows 7 and the latest iTunes 10.6.3.25 does't recognize my iPod. Windows also did not ask me for my iPod name when plugging in the 1st time. Please help.

What have you tried so far in terms of troubleshooting this issue? Are you plugging the iPod into a high powered USB 2.0 port on the back of your PC?
What happens if you try to reset the device with it still connected to the PC?
    How to reset iPod
Has this iPod ever worked on this PC or is this the first time you have time you have tried connecting it?
Have you carefully worked through each and every single suggestion in this Apple support document?
