Help! Need to get rid of MacKeeper and Spinning Wheel!

Hello Apple Community,
I have a problem that has been solved by one member of the community, however, I am still having the same problem.  I thought I knew my mac pretty well however, I was one of those stupid people who installed MacKeeper in hopes of cleaning up my macbook pro and get the spinning "wheel of death" to STOP!
I have read the posts and the comments from previous threads.  One in particular was posted by "uvistr" requesting help with the same problem I am having.  The community member, "etresoft", provided a great solution.  However, I tried to follow the directions to re-install mackeeper and then un-install, but I could not find any information in my logs with anything related to mackeeper. When I went to the mackeeper site, the only way I could re-load it was to buy it again!  I feel like I am going in circles!
I thought I had deleted, dumped, trashed MacKeeper, but I still have the white screen on my desktop that says "unistall mackeeper". Only the GREEN light is available to use and of course I only just get a bigger screen!  Nothing is on the screen and there are no options in the finder (that I have found) to delete this white screen.
I do know that I didn't un-install it correctly based on the information from "etresoft".  I am at the point of getting rid of everything on my macbook and then re-install everything.  I have everything backed up on an external hard drive.
Once I get MacKeeper off of my machine, will the spinning wheel stop?  OR does anyone think there is another problem that is causing it to constantly spin?  I have checked with Comcast and am running at their top speed.  I have the latest upgrade of OSX Lion and have deleted all pictures and movies from my hard drive.  Any thoughts?
Thanks for any help that can be provided.....

No, you do not need MacKeeper.  Removing MacKeeper will help.

  • I Finally Managed to get rid of "Mackeeper" and "Dynamic Pricer" POP Ups

This is actually not a question.
I was suffering for months now...It became totally impossible for me to open Safari without immediately being submerged by "Mackeeper" or "Dynamic Pricer" pop-ups.
I searched for a solution to get rid of Mackeeper for months without success: ( Please refer to the link for better description of the problem Do not install MacKeeper)
I totally  had given up finding a solution for Mackeeper, until i accidentally came across a Free SW (adware) called AdwareMedic while I was trying to get rid of "Dynamic Pricer".
It actually solved both my problems ...
Am so excited that I decided to share this great finding.
I hope that those who have been infected by these malware will appreciate the hint.
    Cheers

Thanks for the tip! However, just to clarify, AdwareMedic is not adware - it is an anti-adware app. Adware is the name for the software that injects ads into your web browser, and it is that software that AdwareMedic can be used to remove.

  • How to get rid of Mackeeper and Mplayer X

I have system 10.9.4 on my macbook pro - today both Mplayer X and Mackeeper together downloaded onto my computer by mistake. Now it's a nightmare, normal links clicked on take me to Mackeeper and ads fill up my screen so I can't see what is underneath the ads!
Safara was effected too, in my preferences set up "open links and windows to top sites", it keeps changing and going back to homepage.
How can I get rid of these? I deleted them both but it made no difference.
    Any help is much appreciated.
    Thanks, Martha

For Mplayer X, try MPlayerX Malware Removal
    For MacKeeper, try http://www.iskysoft.com/data-recovery-mac/uninstall-mackeeper.html

  • Help:Need to get rid of the space.

    Hello Folks.
I am having an extra space between monthname and year in the folllowing query. Can anybody throw some light on how to get rid of the extra space between.
    Thanks a lot
    (to_char(trunc(sysdate,'MM')-1,'MONTHYYYY')
    output:(currently)
    JANUARY  2010

    Hi,
The format you want is 'fmMONTH YYYY'
'MONTH' always returns a string of the same length, right-padded with blanks to be as long as the longest month name. In English, the longest month name is 'SEPTEMBER' (9 characters), so January (7 characters) gets padded with 2 extra spaces; May would get 6 spaces.
'FM' in the format means "lose the padding". Since you want a space (exactly one space) between the month and year, put exactly one space in the format string.
    The complete TO_CHAR expression is:
    TO_CHAR ( TRUNC (SYSDATE, 'MM') -1
         ,'fmMONTH YYYY'
         )

  • Urgent HELP needed: Address Book will not start, just spinning wheel.

When I want to start the Address Book I just get the spinning wheel without end.
If I press: Command-Option-Esc to force-quit the application I am informed that the Address Book is not responding; I can only force-quit the application.
Since my AB data is also on MobileMe and another computer, I could, if necessary, delete whatever data files (and repopulate later). But how do I get Address Book working again?
Your help is highly appreciated. Thanks, Veit

Thanks, Roam, for the referral to Pacifist; sounds useful in the future.
I could solve my problem by:
    - deleting the com.apple.AddressBook.plist file
    - resetting the synchronization files as described in http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10868689&#10868689
    - and finally syncing with MobileMe, i.e. overwriting the computer with data from MobileMe.
All seems to work again, also the resizing. Thanks again for your help. Cheers, Veit

  • Need to get rid of mackeeper zeobot malware pop ups, i never installed it but hey there it is

please help there must be a way to remove this rubbish

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem.
You may have installed the "VSearch" trojan, perhaps under a different name. Remove it as follows.
Malware is constantly changing to get around the defenses against it. The instructions in this comment are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for more recent discussions or start a new one.
Back up all data before proceeding.
    Step 1
From the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Uninstall any extensions you don't know you need, including any that have the word "Spigot," "Trovi," or "Conduit" in the description. If in doubt, uninstall all extensions. Do the equivalent for the Firefox and Chrome browsers, if you use either of those.
Reset the home page and default search engine in all the browsers, if it was changed.
    Step 2
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.vsearch.agent.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "com.vsearch.agent.plist" selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
Repeat with each of these lines:
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.daemon.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.helper.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/Jack.plist
Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Then delete the following items in the same way:
    /Library/Application Support/VSearch
    /Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/Jack
    /System/Library/Frameworks/VSearch.framework
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ConduitNPAPIPlugin.plugin
Some of these items may be absent, in which case you'll get a message that the file can't be found. Skip that item and go on to the next one.
The problem may have started when you downloaded and ran an application called "MPlayerX." That's the name of a legitimate free movie player, but the name is also used fraudulently to distribute VSearch. If there is an item with that name in the Applications folder, delete it, and if you wish, replace it with the genuine item from mplayerx.org.
This trojan is often found on illegal websites that traffic in pirated content such as movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow.
You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that the Internet criminal behind VSearch has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. Apple could revoke the certificate, but as of this writing has not done so, even though it's aware of the problem. This failure of oversight has compromised both Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. You can't rely on Gatekeeper alone to protect you from harmful software.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • I need to get rid of Maverick and go back to Snow leopard 10.6.8    What is the best way to do this

I do not want to lose my 20,000 photos, so I need to delete Maverick ASAP.

Thjis issue is now resolved.  I restarted, the Apple with the option key pressed, then choose my time machine back up disk to rebbot from, and then chosse the date i wanted to reboot from.  The HD was automatically erased, and the previous system and all of its files were installed.  It took almost 8 hours to complete the project, but at least I got all of my photos back.  Now I want my money back from Apple, the $15 I had to spend to get my Iphoto app to work on Maverick.
Maverick has got some nice featuresw to it, but when I can not open my photos, 21,0 0 0  It just aint worth it to have the latest OS.
Mavericvk is so sick. . .  Fix it Apples

  • Could somebody help me to get rid of mackeeper?

Advertisements everywhere. Can somebody make my day?

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem.
You may have installed the "Downlite" or "VSearch" ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it. It's been reported that some variants of the malware block access to the page. If that happens, start in safe mode by holding down the shift key at the startup chime, then try again.
Back up all data before making any changes.
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those. If Safari crashes on launch, skip that step and come back to it after you've done everything else.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, then you may have an adware variant not covered by the support article. Ask for instructions in that case.
The problem may have started when you downloaded and ran an application called "MPlayerX." If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow. Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates
    if it's not already checked.

  • I am using migration assistant with my old MacBook and a new iMac but I'm just getting a swirling bar and spinning wheel. No signs of any progress after an hour. Drive is about 250 gbs.

The old MacBook says "the other mac is ready" and the new iMac says "successfully connected to other Mac. They are connected via Ethernet. Shouldn't there be some sort of indication of progress?   It just looks like they're stuck.
    Thanks!

  • How do I get rid of Bing and adware on my macbook? I have changed the preferences on Safari to google, and tried to download an adware remover, but things are now worse!

Hi can anyone help me to get rid of Bing and all sorts of Adware on my macbook which arrive everytime I use Safari? I have changed the Safari preferences but Bing won't go away, and worse, it comes up with adverts. I also seem to be losing things I do want - like VLC player-  its creepy

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem.
If Safari crashes on launch and you don't have another web browser, you should be able to launch Safari by starting up in safe mode.
You may have installed the "Genieo" or "InstallMac" ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it.
Back up all data before making any changes.
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those.
After removing the malware, remember to reset your home page in all the web browsers affected, if it was changed.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, then you may have one of the other kinds of adware covered by the support article. Follow the rest of the instructions in the article.
If you find Apple's instructions too hard to follow, ask for an alternative that doesn't require you to trust a black-box application without knowing what it does.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. Chances are you got it from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad would probably have included a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
    or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
    if it's not already checked.

  • Apple and spinning wheel

I was working on my Macbook and it stopped responding altogether. I forced shutdown. Now at restart, all I get is the Apple and spinning wheel. I've had hard drives crash, but in those cases I got a folder with a question mark.
    What can I do here?

It happens when a needed system file is damaged. You will have to reinstall OS X.
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu, After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
If all is well continue and reinstall Snow Leopard. Your disk will not be erased and your files will be preserved.
