Help needed: AEBSn won't recognize Lacie Ethernet Mini 320

I've searched this forum for help and haven't found anything on point so I'm posting my own request.
I've got the new Base Station hooked up via ethernet to a Lacie 320G Ethernet Mini drive. The Lacie Configurator does not work (no disk shows up to be administered), I can't get to the Lacie admin page via browser and the drive doesn't show up in Airport Disk Utility.
The drive also did not show up when connected via USB to my MacBook. I was, however, able to get the "share" network drive to show up and to copy a test Word document to it. I could not use Disk Utility on it, though. It didn't show up in that program's window of available drives. FWIW, the drive did show up in the System Profiler.
My reading of some of the posts here suggest that the drive may need to be reformatted (w/o journaling) if it doesn't show up on the desktop. Unfortunately, I can't begin to administer the disk, let alone reformat it. Lacie's site is devoid of any information bearing on this issue.
I'd appreciate any assistance. I've pulled out most of my hair already trying to understand what I've done wrong.
Thanks.

This is the last post I'm going to make about this.
While you might be right about the HD itself, I am
labeling the HD as "USB" or "Firewire" based simply
on what its interface IS--as the original poster did,
as the salesman who sold the 2 different HDs to me
did, as the common
non-techno-geek-who-knows-jack-squat-about-what's-insi
de-the-housing would do--which is the only thing that
really matters to the layman who is trying to plug a
HD into his AEBS and is wondering why it doesn't
work.
And actually, now that I've read back through your
last post: It's not correct either. You're talking
about "interfaces" but what your inane,
self-righteous previous answer misses the boat on is
exactly, again, what I've been trying to point out:
The LaCie hard drive we're talking about has Firewire
ports and USB ports but THE FIREWIRE PORT IS THE
INTERFACE BETWEEN THE HARD DRIVE AND THE COMPUTER THE
USB PORTS ARE *NOT**. The USB ports CAN be an
interface--between the computer and whatever devices
you plug into them, but in this case those USB ports
do NOT let the hard drive interact with the
computer.
I see you have 210 posts on these forums since your
registration in March--I hope your others weren't
able to cause anymore confusion than your posts to
this guy's question might have.

will) w/ PC laptop, and still trying to find a

Dude, you should stop posting, if you do not know what you are talking about. Here are a few quotes from your postings:
the key is that it's an ETHERNET-connected hard drive, and it has to actually be a USB-CONNECTED hard drive.
False.
because the USB ports are just a USB hub that's thrown on top of the Firewire HD.
False.

Exactly. I rest my case. When you don't know what you are talking about, you end up giving out false information that ends up confusing people even more.

  • Need help -- iTunes won't recognize two ipod minis

Suddenly our iMac has stopped recognizing both of my kids iPod minis. When connected to a firewire port, the screens on both minis show the animation for "battery charging" -- but neither one appears in iTunes. This problems had never occurred before. This is what I have tried to do so far without success: tried each mini in different firewire ports; repaired permissions; restarted computer; tried a different cable.
As you can imagine, both of my kids consider this an urgent issue . . . .

  • Help needed with printer settings for wired ethernet connection

I'm hoping someone can help me with a network printing issue. I have a large format color laser printer (Tektronix Phaser) and since moving to OS 10.6 I can't figure out how to configure the printer so that the system sees it. I have a simple wired ethernet network with a couple of Macs and a couple of printers. All devices are connected via a switch. When using earlier OSs I was able to connect to the Phaser using Ethertalk. Obviously this is no longer supported and I can't figure out how to set the printer so the OS can see it. I have lots of options which can be turned on or off and in some cases set up in other ways: Ethertalk, IPX, Netware, TCP/IP, DNS, LPR, HTTP and remote internet printing, I've tried messing with these but the result is always the same--system doesn't see the printer. Currently Ethertalk is on, IPX and Netware are off, TCP/IP is on, DNS and LPR are on, as are AppSocket, HTTP, FTP and remote internet printing. I can change the IP address but no matter what address I've tried I cannot ping the printer. (I'm using a Gutenprint driver for this printer.)
I don't really know enough about all this to get anywhere and I haven't been able to find help anywhere even from tech friends. Xerox won't help me and neither will Apple. Any help would be appreciated. I can supply more detail on specifics where necessary. Thanks, Bob

Old Phaser models may becoming more and more difficult to use, but you can give this a try.
    1. Configure the printer via front panel to use TCP/IP and enable DHCP if it's supported. If not then you will need to configure an IP address for the printer together with your local network's mask, and gateway IP address. Except for the first the others will be provided by opening Network preferences to see what those settings are. The printer's IP address needs to be set somewhere within the range of IP addresses your router provides locally.
    2. You need the PPD file required for your printer. If you have the Phaser driver installer you can use it to install the PPD or you can extract the specific PPD from the installer package. This part is tricky because I don't know where you may find the driver now if you don't have the installer. The older installers can be accessed through the Finder by selecting the package then CTRL- or RIGHT-click and select Show Package Contents from the contextual menu. You can then rummage through the package to search for the PPD for your printer. Then navigate to the /Library/Printers/PPD/Contents/Resources/ folder and drop the PPD file inside.
    3. Open Print & Fax preferences and click on Add [+] to add a new printer. Click on the IP icon in the toolbar. Select Line Printer Daemon - LPD from the Protocol drop down menu. Input the IP address you assigned the printer in the Address field. You can file in the optional fields that follow. Then from the Print Using drop down menu locate the listing for your printer and select it.

  • Apple DVD Player installers won't recognize Lacie d2 16x4x12x

    Greetings :
My eMac has a CDR internal drive only.
I just upgraded to Panther (upgrade disks) and I'm running 10.3.9.
I'm trying to get the Apple installers to recognize the Lacie d2 I just got, so that I can install the Apple DVD player (software update?) or import a DVD player from another machine.
The software won't install because it says it can't detect a proper drive, and the player I imported won't open for the same reason. I tried using Patchburn, Pacifist and the installed Installer on my eMac to no avail.
    Here's what my system profiler says about the d2 : : :
    FireWire Bus:
    Speed: 400 Mb/sec Speed
    LaCie 1394 DVD-R/RW+CD drive LUN 0:
    Manufacturer: LaCie Group SA
    Model: > LaCie 1394 DVD-R/RW+CD drive LUN 0
    Drive Type: CD-RW/DVD-RW
    Disc Burning: Vendor Supported
    Removable Media: Yes
    Detachable Drive: Yes
    Speed: 400 Mb/sec Speed
    Unit Spec Id: 24734
    Unit Software Version: 10483
    Firmware Revision: 2.07
I believe the Lacie d2 I just got is the previous generation,
no lightscribe. It works great (plug an play) for burning data but I'd really like to use the native Apple DVD player to watch DVD video with the drive. I downloaded the free/open source VLC media player and it seems to work well enough,
but I'm on a mission to use Apple software if possible.
I'm also thinking of upgrading to Tiger soon so I'm wondering if I'll have any corresponding issues there.
Oh, and I did download and install the latest driver was from the Lacie site.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    eMac   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   700 MHz / 384 MB / 40gig / CDR internal

BTW: here is the fix in case anyone needs it
Follow it exactly, it works !
    1. Download and install Pacifist.
    2. Insert Mac OS 10.3 CD in drive.
    3. Select Open Mac OS X Install Packages button in Pacifist. It will ask you to swap out all three 10.3 install disks.
    4. Click the Find button and type "DVD". A long list should show up.
    5. The important files/folders to replace are:
    -AppleAltiVecDVDDriver.bundle
-ATIRadeon8500DVDDriver (if graphics card is installed)
-ATIRadeon9700DVDDriver (if graphics card is installed)
    -ATIRadeonDVDDriver.bundle
-ATIRage128DVDDriver.bundle (if graphics card is installed)
    -DVDPlayback.framework
    -DVD.framework
    -rtadvd
**There are many duplicates of the files/folders above in other languages. I only chose to install English.
    6. Select each or all and click Install.
    7. Choose to replace all existing files.
    8. Restart. Repair permissions.
I didn't bother to try to install only the English versions...just installed and replaced all the items on tha list

  • Help! Superdrive won't recognize ANYTHING after a forced shutdown!?

I was watching a dvd, and it froze up about 25 minutes in and the little rainbow wheel was up for about 10 minutes and I was in full screen so I couldnt do anything. So, I held in the button and forced it to shut off (with the dvd in). Now after that I started it back up only to find it wouldnt recognize the dvd, and just spat it back out after about 5 seconds or so (I couldn't hear it reading anything at all). I tried multiple times, 2 other dvds and a burnt music cd, it won't read anything anymore...and I just burned a cd earlier today and everything was working fine and I also had to put other cd's in that worked fine prior to this shutdown....Can someone please help?? Is there a disk reset or anything??? Any help is greatly appreciated! I also restarted and tried, shutdown and let it sit for the night and still nothing....please help!

That doesnt work I verified and repaired permissions via disk utility, but that did absolutely nothing. It is still taking in the disk, and I can hear a faint beep about 2 times and it spits this disk out after about 5 seconds. I cannot put anything in the drive, it just spits it out after a couple seconds. Everthing worked fine before this one thing happened....Is there anything I can do?

  • HT1338 HELP! iMac won't recognize time machine backup!

My hard drive failed in my iMac 2.8 Intel Core i5. Luckily, I had a time machine backup on a usb hard drive. Also luckily, there was a free replacement available for my iMac because the Seagate hard drive in my iMac was prone to failure. I brought it to the Apple Store for a replacement, which took about a week. When I got home to restore my system from the backup, it won't see the time machine backup. It sees the drive but no backup is selectable. I know it is there because I updated my System software to the latest Mountain Lion and you can see the files on the backup drive, with dates for the backups and everything. It won't allow me to restore in Migration assistant or Recovery Mode or anything.
    HELP!!

Most likely, some files were inadvertently excluded from your backups, and as a result you won't be able to restore your data in Setup Assistant or Migration Assistant.
Starting from a fresh installation of OS X, set up a new administrator account and log in. Follow the instructions on this page to associate your existing backups with the new installation.
You should now be able to enter Time Machine and restore your user data from a snapshot.* I suggest you do this in two stages. Quit all applications except the Finder before you begin.
Restore all the visible items at the top level of your home folder.
Hold down the option key and select Go ▹ Library from the Finder menu bar. Enter Time Machine and restore all items in the Library folder. Log out and log back in as soon as the restore is complete.
Any other invisible folders or files at the top level of your home folder that you want to preserve will have to be restored separately. For most users, that isn't necessary.
You'll have to reinstall all third-party applications from scratch, or restore them from another kind of backup, if you have one.
*If you don't see any snapshots in Time Machine, exit the time-travel view and then hold down the option key while selecting
    Browse Other Backup Disks...
from the Time Machine menu, which has an icon that looks like a clock running backwards. Select the backups of your computer by its previous name. If you don't have the Time Machine menu, open the Time Machine preference pane in System Preferences and check the box marked
Show Time Machine in menu bar

  • Tiger Help Needed Badly - won't start

    Please can someone help.
    My macbook has died!
I was restarting the computer because there was an update and the mac told me too. And then in the middle of restarting it froze. I tried everything (held down the start key, tried it with the option button held down too, reset the battery - the works) but all I get is a black screen. I went searching for my system disc to do the repair thing but I can't find it anywhere. What should I do?? I tried calling apple care but they said they don't sell tiger anymore.
Does anyone know where I could get one?? I bought leapord but I don't want to use it cos' I'm scared it will wipe all my files and give me no option to run a repair/ first aid on it.
    Any suggestions are greatly welcomed.

  • HELP! iTunes Won't Recognize iPhone. Have re-installed Twice.

I've done the full uninstall, reset, re-install of iTunes twice now and the program will still not recognize my iphone when I connect it. As suggested, I went to my USB controllers under device manager and do NOT see one for Apple iPhone. It must not be installing properly for some reason.
Can somebody help me? Can I manually install the iphone usb driver? When I connect the iphone, my computer recognizes it and the iphone does begin charging. So a connection is being made.
    Please help.
    Ryan

    Okay, you'll find this amusing.
I docked my iPhone in my old dock, the one that came with the iPhone. Then the iPhone showed up in iTunes, it dowloaded the new software to my iPhone.
Next, I retried docking in the double dock, (the iphone headset dock), and it recognized the iPhone now.
Wonder if that is the bug fix software update? Hmmm...
    Any ideas?
At any rate, I solved my own problem. Do I get the Mac Genius status now???

  • Help! itunes won't recognize ipod the second time

    Hey,
So, itunes wouldn't recognize my ipod and the ipod didn't show up in itunes, so i uninstalled itunes and plugged in the ipod again. Then it worked! I synched the ipod and unplugged it. A day later i wanted to synch it again, but itunes didn't respond to the ipod being connected to the computer. So i uninstalled and reinstalled and it worked again, but as last time, it wouldn't show up in itunes the second time i tried to connect the ipod.
    What is up with that!!?
I shouldn't be necessary to uninstall itunes everytime i wanna synch
    Help!

  • G4 Won't recognize Lacie external drive

My G4 will not display/boot my Lacie external drive. I've used it for several years, so it has worked in the past. We had a power outage and after that it won't regonize the drive. I tested the drive on my Mac laptop and the drive works fine, just not on my G4. It powers up when I plug it into a G4 firewire port, but won't dsiplay/mount on the desktop. I tried rebooting everything and unplugging all other USB and Firewires from the back. No use. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Hello! Try hooking it up to the book and repairing the drive in disk utility. Then dismount it and unhook it and turn off it's power. Then reconnect it to the G4 and then power it on. Sometimes this will get it to mount. There have been some LaCie's that have had problems with a weak power supply. Tom

  • Help needed - Laptop won't work without adapter

I bought my MacBook exactly one month back. Today, while i was working on my laptop away from my desk, the laptop suddenly went off. The battery was at 78% and there was no reason for it to go off. Now, ever since that happened, my computer doesn't start or even run without the wall charger. I have the latest software releases and i have tried restarting countless times. I even tried removing the battery and putting it back again.
Any ideas as to what can I do to resolve this or what might be causing this. Any help would be appreciated.

Two possibilites: 1. The battery is bad; 2. You've never calibrated the battery.
