Help needed! connecting 2 ipods to one pc

does anyone have experience with hooking up 2 ipods to one pc? i have both a shuffle and a nano (which is new and needs to be installed) but i am worried that the pc will get confused if i hook up 2 different models with different stuff on them! can anybody tell me what might happen before i actually try it out myself??? appreciate any feedback on this!! thanks michael

theres 2-3 main methods for doing this on Windows atleast.
Method 1 is if you want both to have the same songs just connect them one at a time to the PC
Methods 2 and 3 are based on if you want to use 2 user accounts in windows or not and are covered in more detail here on the apple site http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300432
PS if you do decide to use 2 user accounts in windows, make sure you turn off "Fast user switching" iTunes does not play well with this feature turned on in windows

    Thanks!

I haven't researched it and I don't claim to know everything about iTunes, but it has always been my understanding that you can only use one computer per iPod, but you can have multiple iPods per computer. From what I understand, this is to prevent illegal sharing and whatnot.

  • Connecting 2 ipods to one library

I have a 2nd generation nano and my brother just got a 4th generation nano. We have a Dell computer with windows XP. I want to be able to connect both ipods to the same library so we dont have to buy new songs. Many people said we lose all our songs by doing this. How do you do it?

  • Connecting multiple ipods to one computer

Is it possible to connect more than one ipod to a single computer without wiping the contents each time?
Tried this before and lost all downloads.

If you don't have the songs in iTunes, and you want to keep them on the iPod, you need to stop the auto-sync:
To connect the iPod without iTunes doing the auto-sync.
    1. Hold down the Shift and Ctrl keys while connecting the iPod to your computer. Don't let go of Shift+Ctrl.
    2. If iTunes doesn't automatically open after connecting the iPod, open iTunes. Don't let go of Shift+Ctrl.
    3. Wait until the iPod comes up in the Source list under DEVICES (it may take awhile, but don't let go of Shift+Ctrl)
    4. For iTunes 7, under the Summary tab, scroll down and check "Manually manage music and videos."
    Using "Manually manage":
To add new music to the iPod, you will now have to drag those onto the iPod from the iTunes music list.
After a song is on the iPod (to confirm, eject the iPod and listen to the song), you can now delete it from iTunes.

  • How to connect 3 ipods to one itunes account?

We have 3 ipods ( 2* nano and 1 mini) in the family each belonging to people with differing musical tastes but only one computer. Can we set up 3 different profiles in itunes so when we each download music we only download our own respective choices. The nanos are being extended to their memory capacity.

There are a couple of methods for using more than one iPod on a single computer. Have a look at the article linked below. Method one is to have three Windows user accounts which by definition would give you three completely separate libraries. Method two is to set your preferences so each iPod is updated with only certain playlists within one library. Have a look anyway and see what you think and go for whichever you feel suits your needs best: How To Use Multiple iPods with One Computer
If you go for method two, you can choose the update option "automatically update selected playlists only" which would mean you could create a playlist specifically for each iPod and drag the tracks you want into it. If you tire of the list and want to change it, you just add or remove the songs you don't want. The ones you take out out remain in the library to be used by the other iPods. Make your playlist a Smart playlist and limit the size to just below the advertised capacity of your iPod Mini or Nano (around 3700MB for a 4G). You can read more about playlists at these links:

I have two kids with two different likes in music(country and rock). How can I seperate the two kinds of music with one cpu? When I connect each ipod, they both sync with all the songs in the library. How can I specialize each ipod for the music each one likes, but not download the others songs on each others ipod?

  • Connecting 2 ipods to one PC

I have just bought a 2nd ipod and want to connect to same PC (Win) as the 1st. I cant get the PC to recognise there is a 2nd ipod attached, its stuck on 'do not disconnect'

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Shutdown your computer first and disconnect that iPod. Then restart the computer.
Next run the iPod software updater in Start -> Programs -> iPod, and connect the new iPod when told. Choose to restore.
If successful, then check this: Using Multiple iPods with one computer

  • Yikes!  I need HELP RE: connecting my iPod Nano!

I just bought a 4G iPod Nano TODAY. I'm kind of "electronically challenged." So I plugged my Nano into my computer, using the very brief instructions that were provided with my Nano. My songs loaded fine, but when I removed the Nano from my computer, I could not get the USB cord out of my Nano. Of course, like a *******, I pulled and pulled and pulled, until the wires started coming out of the connection. Then I really started freaking out! Got out my pliers, and finally was able to remove the connector. However, in doing so, I have now done something so that a new connector won't go in. I realized AFTER I had done all of this that I needed to press on the two sides of the connection in order to get it out of the Nano. Does anyone know if Apple will fix this? I am going to cry if this can't be fixed. Please let me know ASAP. I don't think I can sleep until I find out. Thanks for your help.

this falls into the category of abuse, so no, i don't believe apple will fix it. i would try buying a new cord first, see if that helps. unless it is the nano's connector that is messed up, then you are SOL.

  • Need help with connecting 2 pcs to one monitor, and speakers.

Getting a new pc in the coming week, and I need to connect my one monitor to 2 pcs. I was looking into geting a KVM switch, but I am going to buy a new keyboard, and mouse. Is there such a thing for just a monitor, and speakers? Or do I have to buy a kvm switch ,and just use the monitor and speakers connectors? Last question, can anyone recommend a reliable kvm switch, if I have to go that route.
    Thanks in advance

A KVM would be the best option.

  • Help needed connecting 2 routers

Hello, I've been scratching around looking for a solution to my problem for a couple of weeks now.
I have 2 routers (connected as per the pic below) - I have configured it so that I can collect access logs (this is one of the few routers I've found than can log internet URLs) for anyone who connects via wifi on the BEF router, however I can only get an internet connection if I use a LAN port (as per the red line). I've read that in order to log activity I need to connect via the internet port (yellow dotted line), but I can't get it to work and it's frustrating the heck out of me now
Does anyone have any solutions for this?
    Thanks in advance.

Thank you for your help, re-instating the DHCP did the trick (after a power cycle).
    Just in case anyone else needs to do this, here is my final config;
WAG160N is set to 192.168.1.1 with DHCP enabled.
BEFW11S4 is set to 192.168.2.1 with DHCP enabled and auto select IP address.
Thanks for all the suggestions everyone - just need a Wireless N ADSL router (to replace the two I've got hooked up) that can log all internet traffic now

  • WDS Set up - Help Needed! Airport Extreme with one Relay and one remote

    Hi Guys,
I need a bit of help. I am feeling quite stupid and frustrated. I am having some difficulty with setting up a WDS network with:
Base station: Airport extreme (current version)
    Relay: Airport Express (current version)
    Remote: Airport Express (current version)
I start by cold resetting the three units. The Base station is connected via Ethernet. The setup I wish to get going is a simple base - relay - remote.
I go through the utility manager and set up the base station, first as "create a wireless network" enter the ISP details etc etc. Its green light. Everything is fine. Then manually configure the Base Station. Hold down option key hit Participate in a WDS. I then select main enter + and add the Mac Id's for the intended Relay unit and Remote Unit (12 character and numeric string). At this stage I am only adding the intended Relay unit and Remote units MAC number.
Question 1: Do I need to add the base unit's MAC number itself under: WDS Remotes? even I am setting it up as Main?
I am careful to note the security settings and the the Wireless Network name to match these in the relay and remote set up. Under the Wireless tab I leave the Radio Mode: as Automatic (802.11a/n - 802.11b/g/n). I make sure the base has "allow this network to be extended" ticked. Under Radio Channel selection I edit it to reference channel 1 for 2.4Ghz (5 Ghz leave as Auto). I am careful when setting up the Relay and remote to match the Radio Channel. (Although I tired many channels as I thought maybe interference was a factor and denying the fact its obviously my set up skills as a factor).
Question 2: Do you need to disable Guest networks? I would think it does not matter as I have tired turning it off and has not made any difference.
Under Access Control I leave as default, Not enabled.
Next I hit update and and error message comes up. WDS Error as it can not find other units. Ok fine as the relay and remote are not yet set up. So I ignore and can get to the stage where the base unit is working and green light with an internet connection.
I then proceed to set up the Relay unit. Doing the same steps as above with a couple of differences being I add the MAC numbers and select the WDS Mode (Relay for Relay and Remote for Remote. I add the Main base station (i.e Airpot Extreme MAC No.) when prompted and then + the Remotes MAC number. The same for the Remote except I only need to add the base station's main no.
Question 3. Do I need to add the Relay's own MAC number to its own setup? This seems doubtful as with the base station but tired with and without for good measure with no success.
The 2.4Ghz channels are all set to 1. Radio mode set to Auto. Although even when I try to manually set them to all identical it doesn't seem t help.
Then the problems begin. The base unit is Green and the Relay and Remote say they are not connected to the internet. I assume since I have not seen a WDS Error message then the units are set up correctly or as I ignored it on the base unit. But when click unignore the error seems to work itself out.
Question 4. I need help to understand why I have no internet. The remote / relay says something about no IP number and I don't really understand what I should do? Do I need to go back the Airport Utility Manager and start messing about with the TCP/IP, DHCP, NAT ? The base is set up PPPoE and the relay and remote are set to Bridge.
It is really puzzling me why the relay and remote flash amber with error messages related to the IP number? I have tried turning off the base station and router and then on again but no joy.
Can anyone please enlighten me or give me a few ideas? I am doing something very obviously stupid and I guess the fix is something simple that I have overlooked.
I did spend the time and go through the threads and search online, So I am not trying to waste anyone's time I referenced the two links to get a second opinion:

    Any help much appreciated!

I need a bit of help.
    Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
My WDS experience is limited to "main" and "remote" configurations (no "relay"), so I'm not posting from direct experience, but below is what I think would work in your case.
I go through the utility manager and set up the base station, first as "create a wireless network" enter the ISP details etc etc. Its green light. Everything is fine. Then manually configure the Base Station. Hold down option key hit Participate in a WDS. I then select main enter + and add the Mac Id's for the intended Relay unit and Remote Unit
I don't think the "main" unit needs to be told about the "remote" unit, only about the "relay" unit.
Question 1: Do I need to add the base unit's MAC number itself under: WDS Remotes? even I am setting it up as Main?
You'd never enter the MAC address of a unit into its own configuration, if that's what you mean. I also don't think that you'd need to enter the MAC address of the main into the remote and conversely.
I am careful to note the security settings and the the Wireless Network name to match these in the relay and remote set up. Under the Wireless tab I leave the Radio Mode: as Automatic (802.11a/n - 802.11b/g/n).
Five things have to match in a WDS configuration: network name, encryption type, network password, band, and channel.
I make sure the base has "allow this network to be extended" ticked.
    I don't think that's important for a WDS configuration.
Question 2: Do you need to disable Guest networks?
    I wouldn't think that matters.
Under Access Control I leave as default, Not enabled.
    That's fine.
WDS Error as it can not find other units. Ok fine as the relay and remote are not yet set up.
    Right.
I then proceed to set up the Relay unit. Doing the same steps as above with a couple of differences being I add the MAC numbers and select the WDS Mode (Relay for Relay and Remote for Remote. I add the Main base station (i.e Airport Extreme MAC No.) when prompted and then + the Remotes MAC number. The same for the Remote except I only need to add the base station's main no.
I think this should be the MAC address of the relay station, not that of the main station.
Question 3. Do I need to add the Relay's own MAC number to its own setup?
    No.

  • HELP - problems connecting my IPOD to my TV?? Wild Colors??

I have just purchased a Rocketfish AV cable to connect my classic IPOD to my Sony Bravia TV - it connects, I get sound but the picture if fluorescent pink and green - I have the video settings to TV OUT, NTSC, Widescreen is off - what is going wrong? The cable colors - red, blue and green - are lined up correctly according to the color codes. Can anyone help? I really want to watch my downloaded tv shows on the TV - Thanks- Susan

Is your iPod the iPod classic (also known as the 6th generation iPod, released September 2007, silver or black front) or is it a classic iPod as in it's an older model? I see quite a few people confuse a classic iPod (i.e. an old iPod) with the current range of iPod classics. If it is a classic i.e. old iPod it may have never been designed to work with a cable to connect it to a TV so that's why you're having problems. If you do have an iPod classic, then the cable should work, especially if it says so on the box. I'd take it back as it may be either incompatible with your iPod or damaged.
    Hope this helps
    Chris
