Help needed in how to transfer iTunes from old computer to new computer

Hello!
I'm really struggling in how to work a way to transfer the music from my iTunes on my old computer to my new computer without wiping all of the music from my iPod... does anyone have any ideas?

There are a few things you could do, from networking the two computers, using an external hard drive or even using your iPod to make the move. Have a look at this User Tip: Migrating iTunes for Windows to a new PC
If you can network the computers there is also this one: Copying songs over a network to use with iTunes for Windows
To use your iPod on two computers without accidentally erasing it, change it to manual update on your old computer before connecting it to the new one. Keep your iPod in manual mode until you have loaded iTunes on your new computer and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync:

Another way to load iTunes on your new PC is to copy the songs directly from the iPod. There is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward. As iTunes 7 is just out some of these may not have caught up with it yet though I haven't experienced any problems with the Mac software I use.

It sounds like you have music that you want to transfer from your iPad to your new computer. You can use the Transfer Purchases function to get your iTunes and App Store purchases copied to your computer:

Any media that you had imported to your previous iTunes library and synced to your device will have to be re imported to iTunes, and synced over again.

Old shuffle was defective...apple sent a new one...now need to transfer music from old shuffle to new one. Please help. Apple support says.....can't be done....but...go to apple community and ask for help. HELP!!!!!!!

Need help- How do I transfer iTunes from external/internal to new computer?

My old computer crashed. I have iTunes on an external drive, but not exported exactly as iTunes suggests in "back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive". I am following the directions from support "Restoring your iTunes library backup". Get all the way to "Choose Library", which I do, and then select iTunes folder. Step 7 says to click "choose". I click on the folder, because i do not have a "choose" button. Nothing happens, it just opens the file. If I connect my ipod it opens and a screen tells me I have to "erase and sync" because my ipod is synced with another library. Do I erase and sync? I'm scared of losing hours of music I copied from CD's. (I was able to transfer purchased music.) I have downloaded iTunes 9.0 on my new computer.

Well, I would skip the Firewire since it isn't essential. Connect the backup drive to your new Retina when it arrives, but before you turn it on for the first time. When you then turn it on you will begin in the Setup Assistant where you will have an opportunity to restore your files from a backup drive or another computer. Select the appropriate option. You can then restore (migrate) your Home folder, third-party applications and support files, and system preferences. Once that is completed when the computer restarts you will be all set up in your old Home folder.
Note that you will be transferring files over a USB connection. Depending upon how much data you are transferring this may take a very long time, so be patient. A USB drive's typical transfer rate is about 12 GBs/hour.

I just got a new iMac and would like to transfer files from my old iMac. I don't want to transfer everything from the old iMac. I just want the files, iTunes library, iPhoto library, etc. I don't want to transfer applications and settings. Carbon Copy Cloner might be the correct tool. It lets you pick and choose what to clone.

connect the Macs with an ethernet cable,
enable file sharing on both Macs,
use "connect to server" (in Go menu) to mount the new Mac's drive on the old Mac.
run CCC.

I have a new pc windows 8.1. How do I transfer my iTunes music from my old pc windows xp. I have not downloaded the iTunes store on my new computer.
We also have 2 nano and 2 iphones that use that iTunes account.

Copy the entire iTunes folder (located in My Music) from the old computer to the Music folder on the new computer.
After you move the iTunes folder, download iTunes and install it on the new computer.

Connect your iPod to your new computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

i just recently purchased a new ipod touch i use to have and old ipod with a click wheel dinosaur anyway i want to know if anyone can help me transfer all my old songs? i have like over 1,000 and i don't have any of those songs anymore on my new computer is there a way to transfer them to my new ipod or am i screwed???? I don't have a Touch or anything, but I'd imagine that you'd first need to connect your old ipod to your computer and get all your songs into your itunes from there. unless they're all already on your itunes. then just connect the iTouch and reload it.
of course...I don't know if it's possible to import all your songs from iPod to computer, I've never had to do that.

Basically all I want to do is transfer a couple of songs to my phone from my office computer. Now I downloaded itunes on the desktop. But I cannot sync the music because it will delete all my songs from the phone. How to transfer apps from old pc to new mac

I now have a brand new MacBook Pro laptop and have transferred everything except my apps from my old iTunes on PC to my new one using the home share function because there seems to be no option for the apps. I've made sure the box is ticked in the General Tab of my Preferences on both computers but the apps still don't show up. Am I missing something? I have both firewire and USB cables for both computers. Thanks for any input.

Your answer would be useful is you could help this novice just a little bit more. I'm only able to view the iTunes sidebar when I've selected Music under Library and there is no Quick Link option. It seems that every option I find pertains to music, movies, TV shows, podcasts, etc, but never the apps where I paid for them or they were free downlods! How might I do what you offered? HT201269 Advice on how to transfer EVERYTHING from old iphone to new....

Hi guys,
I've just upgraded from an iPhone 4 16gb to an iPhone 4S 64gb (simply due to space) and I want the new phone to have everything that the old one has on it, including LOADS of music imported from CD's, and ebooks not purchased from iBooks, but copied onto my iPhone from CD's/DVD's that I've bought elsewhere.
I'm figuring that I need to basically make the iTunes on my laptop a duplicate of my iPhone rather than the other way round, but I have no idea how to do this.
I've tried doing a backup of the iphone onto the computer but it conveniently leaves out unpurchased items.
Also, I should say, that some purchased books/songs are not being transfered as the "files are not found".
Any advice would be muchly appreciated.

Thanks for the reply. I've been doing this all morning but it still isn't transfering everything.
When I click on the "on this iPhone" tab all my stuff is there. It's just not coming up when I go into the "music" or "books" tabs. I don't want to "sync" the iPhone in case it deletes what I've got on the phone and replaces it with what's currently showing up as being on iTunes (ie, not all my books, and a whole stash of songs that have the "!" beside them because the file cannot be found.... pulling my hair out..... :'(
