Help needed on photoshop CS5

I work in a tattoo shop and currently using Photoshop CS5 for a trial period.
Basically I need to be able to transform a photograph into a black and white stencil or line sheet as it is known in the tattoo industry.
This is in order for us to be able to produce portrait tattoos.
I have tried all sorts of combinations within filters but can never get quite what we are looking for.
Any help or assistance on this would be very much appreciated.

After reading solutions online and trying them for my settings for 2 days I am still unable to print what I am seeing on my screen in Adobe CS5. I calibrated my monitor, but am not sure once calibration is saved if I somehow use this setting in Photoshop’s color management.
The files I am printing are photographs of dogs with lots of detail I digitally painted with my Wacom tablet in Photoshop CS5 and then printed with Epson Stylus 1400 on inkjet paper 20lb with slight luster.
My Printed images lose a lot of the detail & come out way to dark with a reddish cast and loss of detail when I used these settings in the printing window:
Color Handling: Photoshop manages color, Color management -ICM, OFF no color adjustment.
When I change to these settings in printer window: Color Handling: Printer manages color. Color management- Color Controls, 1.8 Gamma and choose Epson Standard it prints lighter, but with reddish cast and very little detail and this is the best setting I have used so far.
Based on what I have read on line, I think the issue is mainly to do with what controls are set in the Photoshop Color Settings window and the Epson Printer preferences. I have screen images attached of these windows and would appreciate knowing what you recommend I enter for each choice.
Also I am confused as to what ICM color management system to use with this printer and CS5:
What is the best ICM to use with PS CS5 & the Epson 1400 printer? Should I use the same ICM for both?
Do I embed the ICM I choose into the new files I create?
Do I view all files in the CS5 workspace in this default ICM?
Do I set my monitor setting to the same ICM?
If new file opens in CS5 workspace and it has a different embedded profile than my workspace, do I convert it?
Do I set my printer, Monitor and PS CS5 color settings to the same ICM?
Is using the same ICM for all devices what is called a consistent workflow?
I appreciate any and all advice that can be sent my way on this complicated issue. Thank you in advance for your time and kind help.

These would be my suggestions:
Create a new user account with administrative rights, log out of your current account and into that one, launch Adobe Application Manager and attempt the Photoshop update again.
Instructions if you need them - http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11468
If this fails, uninstall Photoshop (Applications > Utilities > Adobe Installers) and reinstall Photoshop then from Adobe Application Manager the attempt the Photoshop update again, also from the newly created user account.

I need a Photoshop CS5 Extended Disk.

I purchased Photoshop CS5 Extended in 2010, and I have my key. I lost my disk, and it is stopping me from upgrading my computer or replacing it because I can't reload Photoshop. The person I talked to at Adobe told me that they only thing they could recommend is to upgrade to CS6. Of course they would say that. How can I get a copy of the disk so that I can upgrade my computer or replace it? I was told the same thing by HP until I told them I would get rid of the 4 HP printers and 3 HP computers (Desktops and laptops) I already own and buy their competitors' brands. Then magically, a disk appeared even though the printer whose software it belonged to was old, and they didn't have the disks in stock - so they said. I can't even get past the first line techs that tell me the same thing - no CS5 Extended disks. What can I do????

Help needed with Photoshop CS4 Extended and Windows 7

I wander if anyone can help me i have just installed CS4 design premium onto Windows 7 RC 7100 32 bit all installed fine including photoshop but when i open any psd files or even create a new psd file it comes back pixelated and unviewable. I am new to photoshop so not sure if it something to do with it or to do with Windows 7 any help would be appreciated. All other programs are working absolutely fine.
UPDATE: Even stranger is that when i zoom in to the document to 200% it is fine any less than that and its pixelated???????????

Help with downloading Photoshop CS5.1 on iMac

Hi there,
I just bought a new iMac, and I am unsure of what to do with photoshop and lightroom. I have bought and downloaded both of them in the last year and a half through the education discount store, and they are on my laptop. I have older versions of both of these products.
I've only downloaded each of them on one computer (my laptop), but I can't find a way to transfer them to my iMac. I can't download CS5.1 or Lightroom 3 from Adobe, I figured if I could them I could just use the same serial number since you are supposed to be able to download them onto two different computers.
I would really appreciate some help!

What does "my laptop" mean? If it is a Windows machine, then there is no way to use your PS on a Mac - serials are platform specific. Buy a new license of PS for your Mac then. LR is cross-platform, on the other hand. You should have no problems installing it on both machines. Downloads can be found using this method:

Help Equipping a Photoshop CS5 Computer

I am an ex photographer who is getting back into slide shows and photography after a number of years away. I want to rework photographs for my slide shows so I have purchased CS5 Extended. I also may want to do some limited video editing in the near future. My desktop computer with XP is getting tired, so I am going to upgrade to a Dell Studio XPS 9100. I won't be a heavy PS user, but want something that will handle it well and not be out of date soon. I will also be using this computer for some business applications.
I have been following your forum on PS PCs.
Does the following sound OK?

Windows Professional (So I can run XP stuff in protected mode)
8GB DDR3 SDRAM @1333MHz
1TB 7200RPM, SATA 3.0Gb/s, 16mmCache
(No Solid State Drive offered by Dell for scratch disk, so I will buy one later)

SSDs promise much higher throughput with a single drive on a single SATA cable, but at the moment to get that advantage you pay a good bit extra money and the sizes are limited.
It can certainly be a big advantage to achieve a much greater than the approximately 90 to 100 megabytes/second throughput a typical spinning drive provides, which is why I use RAID to gang drives together so they work in parallel. The advantage of this approach is that you can both multiply the throughput AND get the much higher capacity. For example, two high quality 1 TB electromechanical (spinning) drives can provide a 2 TB partition (the biggest Windows 7 can boot from without special BIOS considerations) and throughput the equals or exceeds what a single SSD delivers...
The short answer to your question is this: If you see your system on the hard drive a lot while you're waiting for things to happen, there's a good chance faster hard drive access will help you.

Help needed with Photoshop Elements - Insufficient privileges & save

When using Photoshop Element PSE 6 or 8 (both are loaded on my intel iMAC 24 with 4GB RAM, OS SL 10.6.3)I can open the programme without problem and use all the features. Having editted a file when I click Save/Save as I get an error message that says 'Insuffient privileges' and can not save the work I have done.
Anyone experienced this before and found a solution?

Is that what you see?
With that particular file you're editing selected in the Finder, pull down the Finder menu option File -> Get Info. In the resulting window what do you see in the "Sharing & Permissions" section? (Expand that section by clicking on the disclosure triangle if necessary.) Does it say "You can read and write"?
In a Finder window click on the sidebar item with your your user name. In the resulting window repeat the "Get Info" process above after selecting the "Pictures" folder. Do you now see "You can read and write" again?
Can you drag a file (perhaps from your computer's Desktop) into the "Pictures" folder? Can you select a file in that folder and invoke the Finder menu item File -> Duplicate?
