Help needed to make a compound path of text in rectangle
Hello, I hope some one will really solve my problem.
Im trying to make a compound path (text inside a rectangle). I had done this previously with success but now the whole shape and text is showing same color. Although text should be transparent! And now due to the similarity in colors i cannot see any font.
I don't know why this is happening?
I made outlines of text, ungrouped it, released their compound paths, placed all fonts and rectangle in seperated layer and then made it a compound path.
Please let me know if im following all the steps.
Also, please forgive my bad English as im not native.

As you know now, Larry answered the Compound question while you were still typing.
We do have quite a few cross postings in this busy forum, especially at this time of day with natives present both over there and over here.
You can use Opacity Masks for a whole range of purposes, and they can act as (inverted) Clipping Masks, and also for partial/varying transparency.
In this case, the suggested use corresponds to an inverted Clipping Mask.
I quite understand your wish to have the Compound under control, and I believe that is sorted with the advice from Larry.

I need a help regarding the BAdi..i am using the Average BAdi in a column...I have a criterion group called critical attributes and under this there are 5 criterions..i need to insert the BAdi in the Criterion group Critical Attributes and the BAdi needs to calculate the values of the criterions and show the result in the criterion group...
I had done the same thing for the other criterion group and the BAdi was working fine..but the BAdi is not working when i insert it in Critical Attributes criterion group....I contacted some people and they told that it is a configuration issue..so please help me out with a solution...and also the configuration which i need to do to make the BAdi work....Hi Maurice..
I am using the BAdi in an enabled column..i have already used the average Badi in a different criterion group called Performance Rating..It is working fine there...there is no difference between the 2 criterion groups...but somehow it is not working here...i really dont know what is the configuration issue since i am a technical guy...

Under this i have 5 attributes like Accountability,Communication...etc..
The manager appraises the above attributes in the FAPP column...The Badi has to calculate the average of the 5 columns...

Help needed too make a flash presentation with sound
Hi Folks,
I've recently kicked off a 'not - for - profit' project to raise awareness of the effects of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder in Veterans. I've been trying to make a flash video with an MP3 sound clip and slide images but I'm having makor problems with getting the file made.
Is there anyone around that would be able to help with this project by making the presentation video for me? I wouldn't be able to properly pay the person as funds are very restricted but I'd be happy for a credit to go in at the end of the video kisting you as 'producer', or something similar.
This video has to be made to coincide with Veterans week in the UK - 19-27 June 2010, so needs to be made and then uploaded ASAP.
I can offer a nominal payment of £10, as a thank you once the file's completed and running. I can't cope with making the file because of my disability, so I hope someone can help me.

Help needed trying make thumbnails from large Image Files
I posted this to the Flex message bored, too. I didn't notice
the Actionscript 3.0 until after. Sorry. Anyway, I have some
ActionScript 3.0 code, created with Flex that will load a large
JPEG image (say 3000x2000 pixels) that I'm trying to create a 100
pixel thumbnail. I have the code working where I generate the
thumbnail, but it's not maintaining the aspect ratio of the
original image. It's making it square, filling in white for the
part that doesn't fit.
I've tried just setting the height or width of the new
image, but that doesnt render well, either.
To see what I'm talking about, I made a screen shot, showing
the before image, and the rendered as thumbnail image:

Now, there's a few things important to note. I'm saving the
thumbnail off as a JPEG. As you can see in my sample application,
the original renders fine with the proper aspect ratio, it's when
I'm copying the bytes off the bitmapdata object, where I need to
specify a width and height, that the trouble starts. I've also
tried using .contentHeight and .contentWidth and some division to
manually specify a new bitmapdatasize, but these values seem to
always have NaN.

I have a dropdown on choice.php which has all thee categories
in.
the user selects the category they wish and then it displays
the content of the category on the next page, view.php.
Please could somebody tell me how i can make each name in the
category into a link which will then go to another page to display
further information from the database for the selected name?

[AI CS4 Mac] How to create a Compound Path?

I'm trying to create a compound path in AI CS4 for Mac, but I have not been successful. One would think this would be easy, so maybe I'm missing the obvious solution...
What is best way to create a compound path using the SDK? I just need to make a compound path out of two non-overlapping rectangles so that I can create a clipping mask. Nothing tricky.
The SDK is not clear about the best way to go about creating a compound path, but I figured that programmitically selecting the two rectanlges and then using the built in "adobe_makeCompound" action would work, but it doesn't.

When the above code is called while I'm debugging, I get a dialog box that reads: The object "Make Compound Path" is not currently available.
If I click the "Stop" button while debugging, the value of err is 1346458189 which is 'PARM'. So, maybe I need to set a parameter? The crazy thing is that there appears to be no parameters needed for the "adobe_makeCompound" action event. When I created the action manually, the resulting .aia file (see its contents below) has a parameterCount == 0. I've tried passing a parameter block without adding any parameters to it (instead of NULL), but still no joy.

This is with regard to creating a compound path:
I have set some white type on a circle and then created outlines. I then placed the outlined type on a black stroked ring which I then selected "outlined stroke." I then put both "outlined" graphical elements on a separate solid bkg. (all 3 are on the same layer). Lastly, I then selected the top two elements and went to "make" a "compound path" (because I want the type to be the "holes" so I can see through to the background). However, the only effect I get is the white outlined type turning black (the same color as the black ring). What am i doing wrong? I can achieve the desired result with simple boxes but it won't work with a circular type path, a stroked ring and a solid bkg.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!

Unfortunately, I tried your suggestion with no success. BTW, minus front is now Subtract. Apparently, by clicking option>subtract, it works in the same way as minus front. I tried this to no avail.
Let me reiterate please.
I have 3 graphic elements-all on the same layer:
1. Background: Gold circle with a fill and no stroke.
2. Middle: Black ring (Stroked) inside gold background circle.
3. Top: White copy set on a circular type path and placed directly on top of middle black ring.
Both the middle black ring and top type path HAVE BEEN CONVERTED TO OUTLINES.
LASTLY, I select the Middle and Top, go to Compound Paths and choose "Make" and my white copy turns to black. Wrong!
WHAT I WANT TO HAPPEN: I want the white copy to become HOLES, so the GOLD background shows through.
Any solutions would be very much appreciated! -
Every year we do a fundraiser to help my job, but my co-worker is getting frustrated. We receive outside files laid out in Illustrator, but the person who does the file sets all of the text using compound path. These aren't one or two lines of text to be manipulated but whole paragraphs of text. This person does this every year, and it is time consuming if my co-worker can't manipulate a paragraph without going to each individual layer that has a letter. Is there a way to make these compound paths merge as one without altering the document i.e. make some element disappear. Any kind of help is appreciated.

As I (mis)understand it, you should simply ask this outside person to keep all text as Live Type, using a font that you have on your machines (in the exact same version) so there will be no font substitution issue(s).
That way, you could get the job done without silly waste of time.
Failing to comply would seem quite uncooperative.

Live trace, gradients and compounding paths
I have a complex shape, and I want to have a copy behind of it that is filled.. the shape itself is a combination of stokes and fills, so a straight-out fill doesn't look good at all.. I can get it all colored the same way using live paint groups to only fill in the areas that are completely surrounded. The problem with that, though, is a gradient will apply separately to each object, but if I make a compound path it fills in some bits of the strokes the protrude as lines into the outside (it's a ironwork sort of pattern).
The only way i can think to do this automatically would be to color all the selections the same and then rasterize it and then live trace it so it's one object and then apply the gradient to that, but I feel there's probably a more straightforward way. Not sure I explained that properly, if something's unclear I'll be happy to elaborate"The problem with that, though, is a gradient will apply separately to each object..."
Once you get to this point, you can grab the gradient tool from the tool panel and drag across all of the filled shapes. This will make one uniform gradient seen through the many pieces of the selection.
Give that a try, let us know how it goes. -

For fields, it is rv_disabled = true, but what is it in case of templates which has a number of fields?
I need to make all fields(radio buttons,text fields etc) as well as buttons in the template non editable...when it is chosen for editing if it satisfies a condition.

It is not a word template ....but just a questionare template...a survey template...
What i have observed is that when we click on edit option for the survey template,it checks for if teh survey is changable or not.How and where do i set the property of survey as non editable so that it opens up in non editable mode?
IF i make the changable field of the BO as false then it would be displayed in display mode...
But how do i access the attribute that is in protected mode?
i tried using the interface method set property..but some exception is occuring...
The attribute to be updated is
MY_MANAGER_ENTRY->OBJECT_KIND.

Compound path envelope disort - urgent - please help!
So, I really need to do a "car of the year" type of badge in illustrator.
I have the flags vector (grouped) and the hallow circle created whith the shape builder tool as a compound path. (see image).
And now, the obvoius problem. The only thing I could think of to achieve this result wast the envelope disort tool - make with top object. But then, ctrl-alt-c, bag!, error:
Now, obviously I understand why I get the error, my "hallow circle" is a compound path, but how do I convert it into a compatible shape?
Or is it an other way to get the same effect? I've tried the warp option but it just doesn't have a circle, just arch and it doesn't suit my needs. It looks crapy with warp.
Please help me! I've tryed everyting I could've think of, even importing photoshop paths... how can I make this badge work? I just couln't find a way to transform the compound path into an admitted shape. And my client really needs this badge for a franchise event at the end of the month.
This is where I got by using the warp tool but it looks bad, I want lager flags and I can't do that whitout screwing the arch meshed into a crappy circle... plese help meArt brushes won't repeat.
Look for the element that's not allowed, because brushes are an ideal way to do this.

Help with linked files/ compound paths please
Hi - I am working with an illustrator file from another designer which has a compound path with linked files - when you link a new file the image is automatically resized and clipped to the path. I am able to edit it but i want to make my own from scratch and can't figure it out. I'm working with Illustrator CS6. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks
Hi Steve - thanks for the reply - my question was a bit vague as I wasn't entirely sure what I was working with but I think your point about the new linked image scaling to the same size as the existing file has helped me understand it a bit more. What I want to know how to do is to make an entirely new file with a clipping mask that I then link an image to. I made a file with a clipping mask on the page and then chose file>place but the image I import is not being clipped (I ticked the link option when importing it) I see it working with the existing file I'm working with but I need to know how to make a new one myself.

I am making a banner, I have 3 flat jpegs of t-shirts that I want to place on the banner without their white background. I made a clipping mask the same shape as the outline of the t-shirt and now I want to import the jpeg so it is a linked file and is clipped by the clipping mask and so I can use it in future to import different t-shirt image in without scaling and clipping them each time.

I worked on a project a few days ago and went to share - export movie.
Today, i opened the FCP again, to make some changes, and when i enter to the project, it shows me as one big clip.....i dont see it says compound clip....and i tried anyways pressing break appart clips...but nothing....could it be that i made it compound before exporting it..? if so how can i recover the un-compound version >?
I tried to import the saved .mov file, but it opens the same....as one long clip...
