Help needed to move my bootcamp or help from Any winclone expert

I use Windows XP on my macbook pro (Which I am replacing) running on 10.5.8, and I bought a new laptop using 10.6.2 and I want to copy my windows partition on the new laptop.
So, I used winclone to create an image of bootcamp on my older laptop.
I then transferred the file to an external drive, and then copied the file on my new laptop using 10.6.2, on my desktop, and when I try to restore, I get the message "Invalid image: Image file not found" even though I see it on my desktop. I dont know what I am doing wrong, but I really need to do this because reinstalling windows XP and applications I need on it, on my new laptop will be a huge event due to some applications already installed on windows on my laptop i intend to get rid of.
Any alternatives for moving the partition to my new laptop?

Casper is commercial but works well, as expected.
And XP license is retail and can be transferred over.
WinClone you had to tell it you were potentially moving to a different partition size - and repair the boot blocks once completed. I found WinClone to be difficult and only learned the hard way that I had bad blocks and that unlike other programs, that skip or have the option, it failed -- not during backup but during the restore.
So I am not a wizard or expert, I looked for other ways and solutions.
Oh, and if you really want to backup PCs and Macs, then Windows Home Server, and an HP Media Server can't be beat, lots of storage for iTunes, TimeMachine, even SuperDuper images, and of course excellent Windows backup and recovery.

I need to move my copy of CS6 from my old computer to a new one.  Do I need my license reset?

You are allowed to have the software installed and activated on two machines, so there is nothing you need to do other than install (not move) the software on the new machine, unless you already have it activated on two machines.
If you do not plan to use the old machine again or would simply prefer to remove the software from it, or you would like to retain an activation for another machine at some point, it is best that you deactivate it beforehand.  To deactivate open one of the applications and choose Help -> Deactivate.  Once you deactivate it there is nothing else you need to do unless you want to uninstall it as well to gain more drive space.

  • Need Help From a Formula Expert

If you are a brave formula expert looking for a challenge, then please read on! I'm stumped!
I use Numbers to keep track of my reading. I have a sheet for books, where one row is used for one book. I have one column to record the author, one for the title, one for the genre, one for the number of pages etc. The column on the far left is devoted to checkboxes to tell me which books I have finished. I also have one column for the start date and one for the end date. This means that, using formulas, I have set up a column to show me how many pages per day I have read of each book, by figuring out how many days it took me to read a book and then dividing the number of pages by that number of days.
What I want to do now is very complicated:
On a separate sheet, I have set up another table, which I want to tell me my average reading speed (in pages per day) for each genre. I have used the SUMIF function to do this - this function adds up all the 'Pages Per Day' values in rows where the 'Genre' values equal a certain thing (eg 'Fantasy'). I have then used the COUNTIF function to count how many fantasy books there are, so that the sum of the values will be divided by this number. This gives me the average number of pages per day, but only for the Fantasy books.
At this point, I was feeling very pleased with myself - but there is one more problem.
The sheet contains books that I have finished AND books that I have not finished yet. The books which I have finished are marked by a tick in the checkbox. I do not want books I haven't finished yet to be counted in my averages. So what I want to do is modify my formula so that it only counts values in rows where the box in the first column is ticked. I can't figure out how to do this, because the SUMIF and COUNTIF functions only allow you to put one condition in, and I need to put two conditions in - the genre and the checkbox.
In summary - I need a formula to calculate the average of the 'Pages Per Day' values, but only from rows where the genre is fantasy AND the box is ticked!
    HELP!!!

There are many ways to think of this, but I think all of them require the introduction of an additional column in the first table. One way is for this new column to have 1's for the books you've finished and 0's for the books you haven't. This can be done with a formula like:
    =IF(ISBLANK(EndDate),0,1)
Then, instead of using COUNTIF() in your averaging formulas, you can use SUMIF() on this new column. As such, perhaps you don't need the checkbox column any longer. This sounds redundant with the existence of an EndDate, and would save you the problem of checking and entering a date when you finished a book (and the potential for an inconsistency).
Another, perhaps more general approach, would be to have the new column have a formula like:
    =IF(ISBLANK(EndDate),"", Genre)
Then SUMIF()s and COUNTIF()s can be made conditional on this new column.
In any case, if you find this artificial new column unsightly, you can hide it.

  • Need help from any Mac OS guru's...

    Good Morning All,
Yesterday afternoon I bought a used iBook G4 from craigslist in a nearby town. I bought it to use as a DVD player/web browser type thing on trips.
So I bought it thinking all was good, and that it was going to be a good companion on our planned trip to Washington D.C. this April. But when I got home and tried popping a DVD into the CD-ROM tray, it made some noise and spat it out. So I checked the system profiler and saw that this computer was actually a G3 and the disk drive was only a CD-ROM drive. CRAP!
Knowing I couldn't do anything about this, and that I had wasted $250 on a useless machine I started pawing through my portfolio of old Macintosh software and thought "Wow. Maybe I could get all of this stuff onto this machine."
    My problems are as follows:
-The only copy of Mac OS that I have to my name is 8.5
-I've got a ton of great games such as MazeWars, Nanosaur, Hellcats over the pacific.
-I want to keep Mac OS X Tiger on this machine because I do have OS X software that I like to use.
-I've only got about 9GB to do this with
-I know Mac OS classic doesn't support 8.5
-I don't want to use an emulator such as SheepShaver or Basilisk.
-My computer won't start from the 8.5 CD
Is there a way I could install OS 8.5 and switch from OS X to 8.5 by selecting the system folders before I restart? Any help is appreciated
Also: I do have a Mac OS 9.1 update disc if that helps at all...

    Hi, Khalbrae -
    Welcome to Apple's Discussions.
It's not obvious, but the usual problem is that the person is looking at a Category page rather than at a Forum page.
The "Post New Topic" button/link is not available on a Category page. It is only displayed when viewing a Forum page.
Category pages display a section (sometimes more than one) near the top which contains a list of the Forums subordinate to that Category. They also display a list of the most recent Topics (threads) active in all the Forums subordinate to that Category - hence the lack of obviousness.
So, in order to be able to post it is necessary to enter a Forum by selecting one (ideally the most appropriate one) of those listed in a section at the top of each Category page.
The type of page is shown at the beginning of the page's name, which is displayed in large face a bit under the "Apple Discussions" legend in the near-top-left of each page. It is also displayed in the page's URL immediately before the "ID" element.
Once you get used to the distinction between Category and Forum pages, your travels in Discussions will become near automatic.

  • Do I need to move my pictures and music from snow leopard to an extrenal drive before updating to maverick

do I need to put my pic's and music on an external drive before updating snow leopard to maveric

Not absolutely necessary but backing up the system before doing the upgrade is definitely a good idea.
Most likely everything will go OK but its always nice to have that insurance policy in case anything goes wrong.
Also be aware that once your iPhoto libraries (if that is how you have your images) are updated to the new version of iPhoto they will not be readable by the old version anymore. So if you have other systems still running the old iPhoto you will not be able to open the libraries that get updated in the old version.

  • New iMac - need to move files from Macbook Pro to new iMac

    Hi there everyone,
Did some quick searching, but didn't find the answer that I needed.
I am picking up my new 27" iMac (base model) and will need to move my files and programs from my Macbook Pro to the iMac. What is the best way to accomplish this? Are there any tools on the iMac that will help do that, or is it a manual effort?
    Thanks!
    Mark

When you first start new Mac it will ask you if you want to migrate. Say yes at that point and Setup Assistant will migrate everything for you.

  • Need to move music from one computer to another

Wondering how to move my music from one computer to another. My laptop is being replaced and need to move all my iTunes items from here to a desktop. What is the best/most cost effective way to do this? TY

It is very easy. First get something to transfer your itunes file to the laptop (network$, thumb drive$$ (depending the size), external hard drive$$$ with cost of drive and plus a case it can be costly). Those are in order of slowness! After all those files are on the desktop download itunes. DO NOT download itunes first you will be begging for trouble. Open itunes and it will take a few seconds and it should find the file on it's own. Now all you need to do is sign into itunes agree to all the fun stuff and there you go. I did mine with an external Sata hard drive via esata and it could not of been easier. To find the file you need go into music/my music and find the big file named itunes. just copy and past and let er rip.
    Good luck

  • Move itunes music and playlists  from one disk to another on same mac pro

I was running Maverick 10.9.1 on my early 08 Mac Pro. I was having significant problems with the system locking up and having to shut it down manually. After discussing the problem with an Apple Support Rep, I executed a clean installed of Snow Leopard 10.6.8 on a new HDD.  I need to move my itunes library from the old Maverick HD to the new Snow Leopard HD. My Time Machine is corrupted for the old drive.  How can I move my music and playlists from itunes on the old drive Maverick to the new Snow Leopard drive?  I will also need to move my address book contacts.  Any advice will be appreciated.

Thanks. This solved the iTunes problem.  Any suggestion as to how I cam move or copy my address book to the new HD?  I can't find the location of the address book files on the old HD.

  • Move the component which expried from the production area to the blaocked

    Hi
we maintain the same storage location for production area and raw material storage area under the ware house.
    by differentiate by storage type.
now we need to move the component which expried from the production area to the blaocked stock
    which t.code
    thanks
    vraj

Process is Normal only. Go to MB1B. Use 344 Movement type. A Material document is created. A PCN is automatically created. Now convert the PCN to TO by LT04/LT06. Here you have to give your storage type as your production area.

  • I need help transferring Bootcamp (Windows XP) from my old Macbook Pro to the new one. How do I make bootable clone of Bootcamp?

Hi I just got a new MacBook Pro I need help transferring Bootcamp (Windows XP) from my old Macbook Pro to my new Macbook Pro  Mac OS X 10.7.4  2.6 Ghz Intel Core 17. How do I make bootable clone of Bootcamp?

you can't just move XP even if you took the hard drive and have Windows boot and function.
Apparently there are Windows tools to sanitize the OS and strip all the motherboard drivers and services.
Time to get a supported OS. Don't want to pay, then use 8 for the time until it goes on sale.
There are no drivers for even Vista on 2011 and later Macs.
