Hello everyone, Long story short, years ago when I was in college and immediately after graduation I ran up several credit cards trying to stay afloat without having to move back in with my parents. A judgement was gotten against me by discover, which was for 3k~. I settled with them for 2k, and sent the last payment today. I got it in writing that the judgement will be "cancelled." I assume this will stay on my credit report, but will be marked as settled? I have two other accounts in collection, and they have both been sold I don't know how many times. I called them a few months ago (probably a bad idea), and offered to settle. They both wouldnt budge much, so I told them it wouldn't work and ended the call. These are the accounts I need help/advice. Just so I understand, the original balance was $1,700 and you've paid $1,950 to Discover and they offered to vacate if you paid in full, but that would of been a higher amount as it included additional fees? I would try to contact Discover to let them know that you paid the $1,950 as agreed and to find out how to now get it vacated. (don't bring up the other fees). They will highly likely direct you to the attorney. If so, do the same with them. Push very hard to get the judgement vacated now that you've held up your side of the bargain. If they won't budge but counter that if you pay more they'll vacate, get something in writing and continue making payments or get something in writing that shows the judgement has been satisifed. That might not get it vacated but it would likely sufficient for a future lender to approve you for a mortage, etc. I'd wait to hit up those other beasts once you know how you'll proceed with this one. Then, save up the full amount and contact each one, one at a time and try to settle for less if they delete. Keep saving and going on to the next one. Yes, another one might sue you. They'll likely threaten to at the least. keep your chin up! You're being proactive. Stay on the grid and work hard and you'll be fine.

How do I get a discussion back on track?

Several weeks ago, I started a discussion on how to install / run Windows (and other software) on my late-model Mac and also to do other related things.
I started receiving reply messages that appeared to be helpful tips from a couple of people in the forum. Then the people posting these messages got into a disagreement with e
ach other, and each started claiming that the other was giving out (allegedly) misleading advice. I was concerned because (1: I did not know which person to believe, having never tried to run Windows on a late-model Mac before; and (2: these quarreling people seemed to want to argue with each other and not respect the intent of the discussion thread I started.
This made me wonder: what recourse does an individual forum user, typically just seeking technical information/advice, if someone else comes along and pollutes your thread with counter-productive (or otherwise irrelevant) hostility? Is there a way to report this?
I would like to get my discussion back on track, but have no idea how to do it.

I think you said it best yourself on the earlier thread. I would have marked my own reply as solving the question then as CCC and rccharles have already suggested start a new thread .

Trying to Get Digital Life Installed is Time Consuming and Extremely Frustrating

Is anyone else having difficulties with Digital Life installation and customer service? Today, I received a call to confirm installation appointment. I needed to reschedule, so I called back and was on hold for about 10 minutes with customer service and finally hung up. I tried to change the appointment online and the website was not working. So, I called back and was on hold for 15 minutes until someone finally answered. They needed to confirm my passcode or they could not change the appointment. I can't remember the passcode. I got the digital life equipment in April - I can't remember what the passcode is! I have never used it and now it is the end of June. So, I advised that if we can't change the appointment the installation people can just show up. But, I won't be there. Very frustrating. Next available Saturday appointment is August 1st! Not available for me, so August 8th it is. More frustration. The first time installers came, they advised I needed 3 prong plugs or they could not complete the installation (would have been nice to have had that explained before I purchased all the equipment). I have an old home, so it was not as easy as it sounded, plaster walls grounding electicity and repairs to plaster walls. So just add MORE costs and MORE time to get an appointment. More frustration! I paid for all the equipment in April it is now August. More frustation! I have also been billed for the service twice now, even though nothing is installed. More frustration! Does anyone know if I can just return all the equipment to my local store? It is sitting in its boxes in my living room and I am sick of looking at it. I heard over and over while I was on hold about new wide angle cameras. I have had the equipment sitting in boxes in my lving room for so long trying to get it installed, it is now outdated. More frustration. Digital Life experience has NOT been a good one for me. I shudder to think I will have to be on hold for 15 minutes if I need help with an alarm going off. . . Not happy at all.

Trying to get my ring back at the full 30 sec.

what's up people heres my problem. I bought a new ring tone last night and it was working fine but i realized that it was only ringing for 20 sec. instead of the full30 sec. that i paid for so i tried to fix it and it did not work. Now when some one calls me it rings on their end but not on mine. Please someone help me get my ring back at the full 30 sec. i paid for thanks for all your help in advance!

Trying to get album art back after adding it to 7500 songs (external drive)

I just got a new iMac and I am trying to add album art and organize my library. I had the library on an external hard drive, and I'm trying to get it on this new mac's internal hard drive (where it will stay, since the first move to the external drive removed all the playlists and ratings.)
I just spent over 10 hours adding artwork to all the songs and now that the ext. HD is ejected, the artwork is gone.
After reconnecting the ext. HD, it was the same--all the artwork is missing.
Please point me to a relevant thread, if possible. I was unsuccessful in locating one that would be helpful.
Also, how can I do a search for a thread that just brings up the topics, without answers to questions?

Are you sure the artwork's gone? When you add artwork to a music track via iTunes, it is actually added via the ID3 tag, which are embedded in the song file. The only way that the artwork could be removed if if the tag was modified or you converted your music files to a format that does not support ID3 v.2.x tags.
When you Get Info for a single random song file, and click on the tab for artwork, is this pane empty?
Have you opened the show artwork box under the Source menu in iTunes? (click on the button with the rectangle below the Source menu).
Otherwise, I am at a loss as to how all of your artwork disappeared simply by moving it from one drive to another.

I lost all of my Itunes music because of an infection that required them to wipe my computer. I am trying to get the music back from multiple sources. What I have recovered is a mess. Albums are mixed or songs not grouped as album. Help?

My computer got infected with some terrible virus. I contacted the manufacturer and they said the only thing to do was wipe the whole thing. I could not back it up bec this mess?ause it would include the infection. I have been trying to recover the lost music from several different places. A friend tried to help me by putting all of his music on my computer from his external hard drive. That was very nice of him but now it is a terrible mess. The recovered songs are not grouped into albums correctly. Some albums are mixed - every other song is from the other album. Some songs are listed separately and not grouped as an album. I tried to ask iTunes to find album art work and it has been running that for over 48 hours. Is that possible? When I try to stop it I get a message that says I will lose all the data. I admit that I am not very tech. savvy and I really don't know what I am doing. It took me more than 20 years to make that collection and I am heart broken. Do you have any ideas about how I start to fix

Unfortunately you've discovered too late how important it is to maintain an up-to-date backup of your iTunes library (and all other data of value). You could, before wiping the drive, have considered making use of a commercial data recovery service that could (albeit at considerable cost) have extracted your library from the hard disk, even if virus infected.
In the absence of that option, you will need to restore the content of your library from its original sources:
Depending on your location, you may be able to re-download any iTunes Store purchases that are still available on the Store
Likewise, most digital purchases from Amazon (including auto-rip copies of purchased CDs) should be available from the Amazon Cloud and via the Amazon Music application - the same may be true of other commercial sources for digital downloads
Content imported from your CDs will have to imported again
The specific situation that you describe regarding the music imported from your friend's external HDD suggests that either the source is badly organized and/or originates from a source other than iTunes (other media players may use alternative tags for information like artist, title, album, etc. that are not wholly consistent with how iTunes handle these). Without details of the issues you're seeing it is difficult to suggest a remedy other than going through the media album-by-album, track-by-track, and correcting the inconsistencies.
In the absence of a backup or access to the original library data there is no option other than painstakingly recreating your library as described above. As you do so, you'll now realize how important creating and maintaining backups are - in my case I have at all times three separate duplicates of my library, in two different locations, where none is ever more than a week old compared to the content of my master library.

The "Add-Ons" screen should tell you whether the Norton 360 toolbar is disabled because of incompatibility with Firefox 4. If it is then you have two options:
- you can install the "Add-On Compatibility Reporter" plugin. That will let you enable the Norton toolbar even though it is not supported, but then the toolbar might not work as expected (and it might introduce other problems as well).
- or you can wait for Symantec to release a compatible version of the toolbar (recommended)

My 4s lost sound on text alerts, music and keyboard clicks but still plays ringtones and alarm sounds. Took to Genius Bar but they said never seen anything like it and to buy a new one. Help please, need fix to get all sound back!

Help! Trying to get a Video File off a DVD so I can use it in Final Cut Pro

Okay. I'm trying to cut together a project and I need the video and audio off a short DVD. The DVD is under 5 minutes in length and is not copy right protected. For the life of me I cannot understand how to convert the files off the DVD to something I can work with. When I open the DVD I have 2 files: 1) AUDIO_TS and 2) VIDEO_TS. I would like to convert these to something FCP can understand (AVI, MPEG...anything). I have searched and searched the message boards and have found no useful information. I have a feeling it's something to do with Disk Utility but have found no clear instructions. Half the sites want you to buy their software. Surely there is some way to do this without buying additional software. Any help would be greatly apppreciated.

There are four ways that I know of:
1) Play the DVD and have the player's analog outputs connected to your DV VCR or camcorder, which then acts as a convertor to bring it into FCP
2) MPEG StreamClip - FREE, rips the video and audio from the VIDEO_TS folder
3) DVDxDV - $20 or so, does the same thing as MPEG-Streamclip only a little easier, IMO
4) Cinematize - $70, same thing, more options

More issues with 7.4.1 & 7.4.2 - help needed : tried the usual fixes.....

I have the dual band 2.4 or 5GHz model AEBS, Belkin powered 4 port hub, Canon IP1600 printer, 40GB & 120 GB HFS+ USB drives. Win 7 64bit & XP machines.
I only 2 weeks ago did the FW upgrade.
With prior to these 2 FW's, i had issues with my printer not printing the whole page, it would always cut mid last line and then freeze. Had to cycle the printer to get the page out. It would not necessarily print the 2nd time either. The HDD's going through a hub worked fine. I updated to 7.4.1 hoping that would fix the printer issue, it did not. I then began getting "disk repair needed" on both HDD's over the next week; culminating upon both HD's going corrupt.
I reformatted both and moved all my music/movies back, and all was good for a week. Then today, turned both drives on at different times, and both need disc repair again.
So i unplugged them and hooked them up to my Linux Mint rig, and there was no apparent corruption, and all the files were playable.
SO I updated to 7.4.2 tonight, and the printer issue is still happening. BUT the 2 HDD are just fine now, after the update....so this leads me to think there was/is an issue with the router? Oh, i tried to directly plug the HDD into the router as well b4 the most recent update but still disc needs repair....of course they have been working fine for the last 2 hours...
Anyone have any ideas? Im ready to pull my hair out...Thanks in advance.

Since updating my iPhone 5S (T-Mobile) to both 8.0.1 and then 8.0.2 I've had more issues than I've ever had with any iOS in the past (with the exception of iPhone 4 running iOS 7, but clearly that is an older phone, not a 1 year old model like the 5S). Have tried resetting, powering off, etc too by the way.

I downloaded a new version of WinZip. It highjacked my Firefox home page. I keep trying to get old settings back but there is all this stuff including Bing as home page. What do I do?

I have tried dragging and dropping MyYahoo into the home page and it resets to Bing every time I log back in.

You should take a look at the Knowledge Base article [[How to set the home page]]. Your homepage might have been changed by a particular site. Sites like MSN, Yahoo, etc (and it seems winzip) have been know to ask to become your homepage.
There are steps in that article to reset your homepage preferences to default. I would try that first to clear out any strangeness. If that works, you can try setting your homepage again to your personal preference.
