Help needed! Usb Data recovery software for word documents?

A friend of mine has saved ALL of her precious work on a USB pen, which for no apparent reason has stopped working!
It isn't being recognised by windows, but my mac is detecting it with trial software which I cannot buy on my measly student income. Not doable.
Is there any data recovery software available for macs which detect microsoft documents which is....ummm free?
It's beginning to drive me mad I've been looking at this stupid pen for ages. But my mate has offered me 50 quid if I get it sorted, so I am persevering! Any help would be appreciated guys!

You can try the free Demo version of Data Rescue. It does not detect Word files; it's looking for anything on the device that matches the criteria you set.
Hope this helps,
Mulder

What is the best data recovery software for Mac OS X 10.5.8 Leopard?

    A backup.
After that's there's the usual list, DataRescue, FileSalvage. General reading on this topic - http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/datarecovery.html  It would help to know the actual problem since sometimes a straight answer to this kind of question isn't always the way to a solution to the real issue.

  • Data Recovery Software for the Zen Vision M

Data Recovery Software for the Zen Vision M:
Has anyone had any success recovering lost sound files from a Vision M, with software, physical repair services, or otherwise? Does anyone claim to be able to recover information from these devices?
The data recovery programs I have tried fail to recognize the dri've, since it doesn't show up in list of dri'ves for some reason (Is there a way to make this show up?). Any suggestions/ recommendations would be greatly appreciated as I lost over a year of recordings after an unexpected forced reformatting. How would one even go about finding someone for this job?
    Thanks, GW

Haven't really tried the data recovery so I would like to know more about this one too.

  • Data Recovery Software for Mac.

I have 2 questions regarding data recovery from an external drive (WD My Book Essential).
    1. During a Bootcamp install, the backup taken using WD Smartware software has been replaced by a Windows folder and I cannot read the drive after reinstalling SL on my Mac Mini to retrieve my backup. If I erase the drive (as the software is asking me to do), can I then recover the lost backup files using data recovery software or will the file system on the external drive cause a problem. (Format is NTFS)
    2. Which data recovery software is best for for use on a Mac? Or do I recover using Windows software instead?
    Thanks.

If you want to recover data from a Windows partition, you probably need to use Windows recovery software. I'm not aware of any Mac data recovery software that can work with an NTFS partition, though there might be something out there I've missed. Do not erase the Bootcamp partition before attempting to use any recovery software if you can possibly avoid doing so (use Windows volume repair software if the volume won't mount); that will just make the recovery far more difficult.
    Good luck.

  • Best data recovery software for Mac Os X 10.10

I need to recover data that was deleted on a WD external HDD. I am using a mac mini with Os X 10.10.
I would like to use a reliable and safe data recovery product.
    Any suggestions?

The file was fragmented. To fully recover a file it needs to be continuous on the hard drive. If the file was fragmented it was broken into pieces across the hard drive. The recovery program can't know this so would each piece as a different file as it no longer has a map to go off of.
There will probably be many files with a random letter/number combo for a name. Within these may be the missing parts of the video. While there may be some advanced forensic techniques to reconstitute the files. I think that would go beyond some forum advice to needing years of advanced training in data recovery.
You can try Nucleus Kernel Macintosh. It is by far the most thorough and robust data recovery I have used but requires Windows to run even though it recovers Mac volumes.
For OS X native try Stellar Phoenix. I didn't find it as good but it is definitely the best I know of for Os X 10.10.
I would not bother with Data Rescue or Disk Warrior. They will not do a deep scan of the hard drive. They also won't do a scan if the partition table was lost and won't try to plow through disk errors.
Also $70 to $100 for data recovery software is very cheap compared to professional.
Edit: I also hope you are recovering files to a different drive than that external you wiped and that you have not been adding any files to it. Otherwise that data will be mangled fast.

  • Data Recovery Software for MBP

Apparently I have trashed the directory on my FW 160GB Maxtor External drive. "Unable to read disk". (It is a drag since it happened just as I was getting my brand new MBP system up! Oh well!)
My research has not uncovered a suitable disk repair/data recovery solution for the new iMac (Intel-based). Does anybody know of one? The best one?

Other than Disk Utility (Utilities folder) there are two commercial products: TechTool Pro 4.5.2 (www.micromat.com) and Drive Genius 1.5.1 (www.prosofteng.com.)
Try DU, it's pretty good unless the directory is too badly trashed to be repaired.
For data recovery there's Data Rescue II (www.prosofteng.com) and File Salvage (www.subrosasoft.com.)

  • Data Recovery Software for OS 9.x???

    Hi,
Is there any software on the market for data recovery for mac os 9.1? I have lost some data (accidentally erased) on my hard drive module on my G3 laptop Pismo (the black one, with the slide in hard drive). The Onbelay junk does not work with such a hard drive, and only works with USB devices like memory sticks, CF cards, etc. Not of help with a hard drive. Everything on the market seems to be for Windows or Mac OS 10.x
    Thanks.

Norton Utilities (SystemWorks) for Mac OS X gets badly maligned on the forum (for good reason). But the version for Mac OS 9 and below was one of the best sets of maintenance and recovery utilities. It does a lot, including recovering accidentally deleted files.
It's SystemWorks version 1.0 (with the last version of Norton Utilities that was fully Mac OS 9) that you want. You can find it cheap from a few vendors including

  • My computer somehow restarted then deleted all my progress from Word documents. Is there any way to get these documents back without purchase of a data recovery software?

Recently when I open my Mac the screen stays black until I press the start button a few times. Usually at this point it's in sleep mode. This time, however, the computer restarted completely, losing any word documents that I had left open prior. Is there any way I can recover these files without a purchase of a data recovery software? I've tried looking in the 'recent' tab, but it didn't save anything I have done in the last week, and finals are this coming week. Please help!

If the system just Restarted on it's own, Shut down while you were working on something then started back up all those changes, edits, you had done in that app, document, are gone.

  • Need to find PowerPC Data Recovery Software

So, I was working one day inside my Power Mac G5 Quad by putting in some additional memory. Suddenly, my arm accidently pushes over my external hard drive with lots of my back up software. The drive falls to the carpeted floor. Next, I hooked it up to my mac to see if there was a problem with it. I found no problem other than all my programs were gone. The drive does post to the desktop and no clicking or bad hard drive noises come on. I then go to hook this up to my windows laptop and Windows chkdsk refuses to run, saying that the drive is not formatted.
Can someone recommend for me a good data recovery software, other than Prosoft Data Rescue 3? I have had nothing but problems with that software as when it gets to stage 3 of 3, it hangs at 71.93 percent and stays there.
I really want my data back as I also have a backup of my Gateway's windows image on there. I looked up a software called Boomerang Data Recovery, but they want like 140 dollars for a basic licence, and not to mention I heard bad things about that company such as, scamming people, no customer service, etc.
I am looking for something affordable, but with which can do the job.
    Thanks.

Ive never run into any trouble with Data Rescue (granted Im still using 2.0), but it sounds like what BDAqua said. Its probably hit a bad spot on the drive and yes it will sit there reading and reading and reading until it can get around it.. Last time I had to recover some stuff due to a lovely power outage, it took a few hours to get everything off of my 500GB storage drive..
Id go with Diskwarrior for my 'second opinion'. DW is pretty good about it, and in the event it finds a problem, I like its reports alot better then Data Rescue. Data Rescue wont really wont tell you anything about the drive's problems other then it cant read data, but DW will let you know whats going on..
If you need a general diagnostic tool for the whole system, TechTool Pro also has some nice disc tests in it amongst all the other memory/cpu/etc tools..

The Apple techs are looking. But they can't find it. Nor can they find a back up on my laptop, Evidently when I backed up my Iphone to computer the calendar wasn't syncing. Since I only use the calander on my phone - I never noticed.
The Apple store rep that sold me the I-Phone 5 on Monday, was transferring my contacts and calendar thru I-Cloud (I never used I-Cloud before that moment - and always had it turned off). He successfully transferred the contacts - which are still on my phone), but the Calendar weirdly split into 6 calendars (2 of which were linked to my G-Mail which only had a few entries) (4 were linked to my MSN / Hotmail email and contained all the major events/data). I never created calendars that were separate or liked them to 2 different emails. I just typed entries into the I-Phone calendar. However, the calendar did exist on the new I-Phone for 24 hours. Something happened during transfer. When the Apple Genius Bar tech was attempting to back up my Calendar & merge the 6 calendars, everything disappeared in his hand while he was looking at it.
I am hoping that some really good data recovery expert exists that can restore the calendar that was in both I-Phones yesterday. It is completely devastating if I can't recover it.
Any help, or referrals, is great appreciated!!!!
    Thanks!

  • Data recovery software? Help?

I lost most data and pics because I didn't backup first before recovering. In November I accidentally deleted all texts from my friend, and I tried to fix last night but ended up making things worse. Is there anything I can do to get all my data and pics back? I've researched data recovery software but not sure it's safe. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766  only way to get your data back, is to restore from a backup you create either thru itunes or icloud.

  • I need a new recovery disc for my MacBook help ASAP!!!

I need a new recovery disc for my MacBook so I can format and re-install the default operating system. I have lost the original recovery disc that came with my MacBook years ago. Can anybody tell me how and where I can order one from?
Also, I do have the original recorvery disc that came with my MacBook Pro, could I not just use this or would it not be compatible?
    Help ASAP please...
    Thank you!

For a fee, you could likely order a replacement install-restore DVD for your MacBook. To get the correct disc(s) and match the hardware to the system, you need to know and have the serial number of the product handy, and be able to answer some basic questions; and have a form of payment, such as credit card.
Call the Apple Store online (main US number, 1-800-MY-APPLE) or the main Apple Support number for US, 1-800-275-2273.
Or if you're in another country, you could try calling a Local in-country support number and ask, since they may have to redirect your call to another associate. See link below for Support phone numbers.
An operating systems specialist or other qualified person will be able to try & help obtain the correct disc or disc set; if the computer original gray-label set is no longer available, they may be able to check their extensive database against your product serial number to see if they may have another full install disc that can work.
This other option, if it happens, based on your MacBook serial number and build model identifier, could be slightly newer than the OS X version shipped with the MacBook, and not be gray-labeled.
A replacement install disc in retail version would not include any original MacBook applications, while a gray-label disc set should have most of them as part of a multiple DVD set, if available.
