Help Needed with Flash 8 Text Animation

Hi, I'm new to Flash 8, and I'm trying to make text fade in
and out. I have done it 2 ways and when I scrub through the
timeline, I can see the effect nicely, however, when I run
'Control/Test Movie', the effect is no longer there.
I've tried making the text a graphic object and altering the
alpha values, and I've also applied a transition effect to the
plain text object. Again, with both methods, you can see the effect
in the timeline window as you scrub through, but when I run test
movie, or export as a .swf, the effect is not there.
Can anyone offer any insight on how to resolve this? Thanks
very much in advance.

You probably just need to include the character
outlines--either switch
to static text, or "embed" (see properties panel) the
appropriate character
set. Your question has been answered many times, so a search

Help needed with flash gallery

Hi all, I am a graphic gesign student and I am working on my
online portfolio, I want to make the gallery with flash, I can make
a thumbnail viewer with simple thumbs but I want them to be
annimated when the mouse is rolled on snd off the thumbnail, but
this means I am unable to show an enlarged version of the thumbnail
when clicked using the method I usually used. The main problem is
that when one thumbnail is clicked the other become innactive (it
may be a simple problem but I am new to flash)
If someone could just get 2 thumbnails working I can do the
rest, or just a simple set of instructions....anything!!
Please help my deadline for this project is fast approaching

Help needed with Flash web template

I am working on a flash website for our Boy Scout Troop. It is based on a template purchased on-line.
I am using Adobe Flash CS4.

If you click on the "foundation" button, you will see a movie under the Eagle Honor Roll, named "read more". When you click on that movie, it opens a window in the upper left corner of the screen. I am having two issues with this, as well as several other similar movies that look the same, and perform the same function (opening differant text boxs).
I was able to easily go into the actionscript for each of them and change the name of the title that shows up on the top of the pop up window, but I can't for the life of me find where to edit the text. Every other pop-up window has a seperate movie file which I can edit, but this one does not. I have looked through all of the Symbols multiple times, and there is not one listed. The "read more" movie that is in the left hand box on the information page has a symbol that contains the text. the ones on the "Foundation" and "Our Program" pages do not. How do I change the text, if there is no symbol containing that text?
I also would like to be able to change the position of the pop-up window when it opens, but cannot find where to do that.
My other issue is editing the "Gallery" button at the top of the page, to point to a PHP Nuke site, that I am going to use for content management. I have found several tutorials on-line mentioning the use of the "on release get URL" command, but everytime I try to use it, it just breaks the animation on the button, and still does not open the URL in question. I have attached a .TXT file containing the current action associated with the button's "Blue box" (not sure what this is really called). I just need to know how to incorporate the "on release get URL" command without messing up the animatioon associated with the button.

Hi all,
I need some help with web services and flash. I'm very new to flash, so please have that in the back of your mind when reading this :-)
I've got a .swf file, and I would like to display a number received from a web service (using adobe flash professional cs5). Ive added the web service and provided the WSDL, but when i try to "Add Method Call", nothing happens. Why? What am I doing wrong?

I just noticed that I forgot to use an empty stoplist, so I have added that to the revised example below. Otherwise, it uses a default stoplist that would not index common single-letter words like A and I.
1. Whtat is Just search on single character 'L'? It give me error.
Since it uses the NEAR operator, searching for just one letter causes incomplete syntax, asking it to search for L near a missing second value. So, I have added additional code to allow for just one letter.
2. How do I do auto refresh on this index on datastore?
If I add "sync        (on commit)" it does not refresh the previously set token.
Sync(on commit) does synchronize so that the data is immediately searchable. You have to either optimize or rebuild or drop and recreate the index to condense the rows in the domain index table.
3.lastly explanation of
<seq>NEAR((' || letters_func (:search_string) || '),1,TRUE)</seq>
                  <seq>NEAR((' || letters_func (:search_string) || '),100,TRUE)</seq>

why 100 true and 100 false
100 is just a default value that I used for the second parameter of near, indicating how close the letters need to be to each other. True and False are values for the third parameter of near, indicating whether or not the letters must be in the same order or not. So, it returns the results in the order of first those that are very close to one another and in the same order, then those that may be further away but in the same order, then those that may be further away and in any order.

I have uninstalled flash and am attempting a fresh install but I can not get flash to download beyond 30%. I am on a mac

Help needed with Flash intro

Hi,
I've made a little Flash intro for a site I built in Golive.
I have no knowledge of Flash whatsoever and I need some help to
make sure that as soon as the intro finishes the visitor is
redirected to the homepage. I made the intro in Imageready (so all
frames ended up being bitmaps in Flash), but I read somewhere that
I should use some scripting on the last frame. I've opened the file
in Flash, but I'm not sure what script to use and how. Could
someone help me out here (it's not a commercial site, it's just my
own site but any help would not be less appreciated!)? And then, do
I also need to add scripting to the html-page.

Help Needed with Type/Text/Font Formating in Aperture !!!

Anyone know if it's possible to edit the leading and justification of type and text in Aperture... I have a page set up which looks great.... the automatic text template has a high level of type leading which look great.... but I have too much text content so it will not fit. I tried everything but couldn't find a way to reduce the leading.... so I deleted the template text box and inserted a new.... but this time the leading is auto and set solid.... plus the justification moved from being ranged left to centered.... I would like to have some additional line leading plus have my text ranged left if possible.
Does anyone know how these elements can be edited and modified.

I had the same problem. The default seems to be text-centered, and I couldn't find tools to left justify.
What I did to solve that was to simply copy some left justified text from a web page, and paste it into the text box. The justification seems to be a property of the text itself, not the text box. After you have the text pasted in you can replace it with your own copy. I don't know about leading. Try setting that in OpenOffice, and then copy/paste it into an Aperture text box!

HELP NEEDED with flash interactive comic book

Hi folks
I am really stuck here.
I am creating an interactive comic book for college. I want a menu, which will house all four issues of the comic series. When you click and drag an issue to the drag area I want that issue of the comic to appear. Then all I need is a button to turn the pages. Pressing the final turn page button will return to the main menu again. If someone can help me Id appreciate it as this thing needs to be in for monday/tuesday.

At this stage I've only been able to make the issue snap to the read me button but I have no idea how to make sure that action leads to the first page of that comic issue.

and below are the questions that I need to complete. they just want me to add codes to my current one, but the problem is I don't know where to put them and how I should word them, if that makes sense.
Add a further instance variable/field pages to the Book class to store the number of pages in the book.
This should be of type int and should be set to 0 in the Constructor.
Add a second Constructor with signature
public Book(String bookAuthor, String bookTitle, int noPages) so it has a third parameter passed to it as well as the author and title;
this parameter is used - obviously?? - to initialise the number of pages.
Note: This is easiest done by making a copy of the existing Constructor and adding the parameter.
Add a getPages() accessor method that returns the number of pages in the book.
Add a method printDetails() to your Book class. This should print out the Author title and number of pages to the Terminal Window. It is your choice as to how the data is formatted, perhaps all on one line, perhaps on three, and with or without explanatory text. For instance you could print out in the format:
Title: Robinson Crusoe, Author: Daniel Defoe, Pages:226
Add a further instance variable/field refNumber() to your Book class. This stores the Library's reference number. It should be of type String and be initialised to the empty String "" in the constructor, as its initial value is not passed in as a parameter. Instead a public mutator method with the signature:
public void setRefNumber(String ref) should be created. The body of this method should assign the value of the method parameter ref to the refNumber.
Add a corresponding getRefNumber() accessor method to your class so you can check that the mutator works correctly
Modify your printDetails() method to include printing the reference number of the book.
However the method should print the reference number only if it has been set - that is the refNumber has a non-zero length.
If it has not been set, print "ZZZ" instead.
Hint Use a conditional statement whose test calls the length() method of the refNumber String and gives a result like:
Title: Jane Eyre, Author: Charlotte Bronte, Pages:226, RefNo: CB479 or, if the reference number is not set:
Title: Robinson Crusoe, Author: Daniel Defoe, Pages:347, RefNo: ZZZ
Modify your setRefNumber() method so that it sets the refNumber field only if the parameter is a string of at least three characters. If it is less than three, then print an error message (which must contain the word error) and leave the field unchanged
Add a further integer variable/field borrowed to the Book class, to keep a count of the number of times a book has been borrowed. It should (obviously??) be set to 0 in the constructor.
Add a mutator method borrow() to the class. This should increment (add 1 to) the value of borrowed each time it is called.
Include an accessor method getBorrowed() that returns the value of borrowed
Modify Print Details so that it includes the value of the borrowed field along with some explanatory text

Help needed with breadcrums???

you will see a nice page. On this page ive got no complaints.
Alle the text and images are looking good. But to have this i had to change the settings of the breadcrums.
Now all my other pages look like this..

As you can see there is too much space between the text and the photos. it seems i cant do one page without effecting an other.
Need some help to figure this out.

Okay so i went out and I bought a yamaha 630BL reciever, a digital coaxial s/pdif, and a 3.5mm phono plug to fit perfectly to my XFI Extreme Music
-The audio plays fine and reports as a PCM stream when I play it normally, but I can't get dolby digital or DTS to enable for some reason eventhough I bought the DDL & DTS Connect Pack for $4.72
When I click dolby digital li've in DDL it jumps back up to off and has this [The operation was unsuccessful. Please try again or reinstall the application].

I also have a question on 5. and Vista 64
-When I game I normally use headphones in game mode or 2. with my headphones, the reason for this is if I set it on 5. I get sounds coming out of all of the wrong channels.
Now when I watch movies or listen to music I switch to 5. sound in entertainment mode, but to make this work properly I have to open CMSS-3D. I then change it from xpand to stereo and put the slider at even center for 50%. If I use the default xpand mode the audio is way off coming out of all of the wrong channels.
How do I make 5. render properly on vista

We ended up getting iTunes cleanly uninstalled and were able to re-install without issue. All is now mostly well.
