Help needed with opening Camera Raw!

I cannot figure out how to access Camera Raw.  I currently use Lightroom, don't see any reason to switch to Bridge.  I have downloaded the 30-day free trial of Photoshop CC, and would love to learn how to use it.  But without Camera Raw, I am having a hard time!
If anyone can help, I would appreciate it very much.  No where in the support data can I find this information!
Thank you.

DrSrik9,
That's the thing!  Bridge is in no way a DAM, Digital Asset Manager.  Not at all.
Bridge is just a FILE BROWSER, nothing more and nothing less.  In its first iterations, Bridge was simply called The Photoshop File Browser, plain and simple.
Adobe changed its name and expanded its scope and range to other applications when the marketing folks came up with the fictitious, misleading concept of the "suites", as in the various "Creative Suites".
Inconsistency between or among applications in the artificial "suites" should come as no surprise.
The "suite" concept is a fabrication of Adobe marketing and bean-counting types.  The engineering teams are totally independent of each other, they are not only in different buildings but in different cities and states of the American Union, even in different countries.
The fact that they have little if any communication among them is highlighted by requests occasionally made in these forums by top Adobe engineers to let the other teams know when there are problems in one application that impact our workflow in another one.
The beauty of Bridge is that it shows you your files wherever the heck you put them.  It does not hide them in mysterious Libraries, Packages, Catalogs or hidden folders.  Anything you move in Bridge is instantly reflected in the Apple Finder, or in Windows Explorer, and viceversa.
You could use Bridge for years and years and then just delete the Bridge application installation and still find your files, right where you put them, right where you left them, WITHOUT the need for Bridge.

  • Help needed with focusing camera

I have a new 3GS and I am not satisfied with the quality of photos----I could use suggestions on how to focus the camera----yes I am tapping the screen to focus the camera---I am guessing there are "tips and tricks" to get a quality photo BEFORE loading it into Photoshop.

Are photos out of focus, or did the camera move during the shot? The end result is similar, but a good eye can tell the difference. Photos should be sharp if there is enough light. The camera adjusts for light level by varying exposure time, so with dim light the exposure will be longer, and the result may appear fuzzy because the camera moved during the exposure. If you are shooting in dim light steady the camera against a wall or table, and hold your breath while shooting.
There's a neat app called Night Camera that monitors camera movement (via the accelerometer) and snaps the picture when the phone is steadiest. This can help some, but having enough light is the best assurance of a sharp photo.

  • Problem with Adobe Camera Raw

Hi all, I hope someone can shed some light on this; I've been going round in circles with all sorts trying to get Adobe Camera Raw to function on someone's laptop.
It will not recognise that he wants to open a Raw file (.cr2) into photoshop and doesn't recognise the file type.
    The setup is as follows:
    Win7 Professional
    Photoshop CS3
    Digital Photo Professional 3.5.2.0
Canon Eos 5D MkII (firmware 1.0.7)
When I go to Help > About Plugin, there are two "Camera Raw" occurences; one has version 4.6.0.30. The 2nd says "operation could not be completed. class already exists".
I've tried numerous times to update Photoshop, but every time there is an error saying there's no internet connection. I've checked and checked again and I'm 100% certain that there is no firewall software that might be blocking it somehow. The laptop is otherwise on the internet fine.
It's becoming quite a problem as we don't have the exposure and other raw format controls to adjust. I've already uninstalled and reinstalled both the Canon camera software and Photoshop.
Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Don't know why you do not have a internet connection. My guess is the you are running off a router with a firewall. Some websites do not like double firewalls. Try turning off Windows 7 firewall and re-download.
The free DNG converter on the Adobe download site should help you with opening the RAW file. I am thinking the camera is newer then what PS CS3 RAW supports.

Your post is devoid of the relevant information – what is the camera in question?

You'll need to update to at least ACR 8.2 for the 70D to be recognized.  The normal way to update PSE12 to the latest CR is to use Help / Updates in the Editor which should update to ACR 8.5.
According to Adobe's website PSE12 shipped with ACR 8.1 and you say it says yours is reported as ACR 8.0.
Are you using PSE 11 and not 12?  PSE 11's maximum ACR version is 8.0.

How to open Camera Raw in Bridge, it comes up with the following error Bridge parent application is not Active   Bridge requires that a qualifing product has been lanched at least once to enable this feature.  It opens in Photoshop CS6 & Elements 10 but not Bridge?

You need to look at all programs in your uninstall list, and see if you spot any old trials that are no longer active.
Camera Raw in Bridge and PS are the same program, so its not the program but access.  Would have been nice it you had stated OS, but here are locatons of camera raw for both OS.

Unfortunately when Adobe products are restored from backup, especial CS4 and especially Mac, it breaks licensing.
There is a python script included in the license recovery kit that should work if you are familiar with Terminal.
If not, you must reinstall your CS4 suite.  You don't need to delete your preferences, so it should be the same as before.

  • PS5 will not open camera raw pictures...all made with Canon 5D Mark III and Canon 5D Mark II

PS5 will not open Camera Raw Pictures made with Canon 5D Mark III

What version of camera raw do you have?  You should have at least 6.7 for PS to open Canon 5D Mark III raw images.

  • How to open a jpg file with Adobe Camera Raw

I know it is possible to open a jpg file with Adobe Camera Raw using Bridge but is it possible to do this using PSE7?  Thanks.

Yes. In the editor, File>Open As, and choose camera raw as the format. John Ellis also has a script for doing this directly from the organizer, but I don't have the link right at the moment. Hopefully he'll be along with it sooner or later.

  • Having trouble opening camera raw files. Already downloaded Camera Raw Update for Photoshop CS5. I have a pc.

Please Help? Having trouble opening camera raw files. Already downloaded Camera Raw update. I have a pc.

If the camera is fairly new then the version of ACR you have with CS5 won't be able to read those file. You'll need to upgrade to a newer version of Photoshop or use Lightroom 5.
Once a new version of Photoshop comes out Adobe does not support updating ACR from the older version of PS.

  • Opening Camera Raw - Windows XP

Sorry if this seems a bit too obvious a question!
I installed CS2 about 18 months ago, and never needed to use Camera Raw until now. I spent ages trying to find it on my computer, looking through photoshop, Bridge, Windows Explorer but just couldnt find it. I know I have it because updates are downloaded every so often for it.
Just to check I actually have Camera Raw, I searched in Explorer and it came up with:
    - two .zip XML files the computer doesnt recognise and cant open
    - An empty file folder
    - An updater file (Prefetch)
    - The application, Adobe\plug-ins\CS2\file formats\ which I when I click to open the computer says it does not know the file type (.8BI file type).
I've looked to downloading a update/file for it, but I dont see how the ones available will actually patch the programme so that it will work.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to open it?
    Thanks for your help :)

    Laura,
you'll never launch Camera Raw---Photoshop does (or Bridge), as John just has explained. The latest Camera Raw version you can use with Photoshop CS2 is 3.7. To use any later versions, you'd need to upgrade to Photoshop CS3.
If you have raw files from digital cameras that aren't supported by Camera Raw 3.7 (i. e. cameras that came to market after Camera Raw 3.7 was released) then use the current version of Adobe DNG Converter to convert the raw files into DNG format, then use Camera Raw 3.7 to process the DNG files. Adobe DNG Converter is a little stand-alone program (not a plug-in) that you can download free of charge from Adobe's website.

  • Cannot Open Camera Raw images in CS2

    Hi
I am running CS2 and PSE 8,but cannot open Raw images in CS2
My camera is an Eos 5 MKII
Camera Raw in PSE is 5.5.
I would like to open the Raw files into CS2.
    Any Help would be appreciated.
I am using the latest firmware from Canon.
    Thankyou
    Keith

Raw files are unique to each camera model and manufacturer. There is a 'model' field and 'manufacturer' field whose values are checked as any RAW format file is opened and if the program opening that file does not have the codes for processing that specific camera's RAW file, most programs will throw a error message and not precess that file.
For Adobe image editing programs you need to have the an ACR plugin version that provides the code for your camera model.
Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras list the various cameras supported by Adobe photo editing programs and the version of the earlies ACR plug-in that supports that camera.
For the Canon Eos 5D MKII you will need ACR plug-in version 5.2 or better.
Camera Raw-compatible Adobe applications list the program versions of Adobe image editing programs, the ACR plug-in version shipped with the program and the latest ACR plug-in version that that program can use.
The last ACR plug-in version for CS2 is 3.7, so you can not directly open the CR2 or RAW image from this camera. You could upgrade to PhotoShop CS5, the most current version of PhotoShop, or download a copy the free Adobe DNG, Digital NeGative, converter and convert your CR2 files to the Adobe DNG format and then open the DNG file with your copy PhotoShop CS2. You could also open the file with Canon image editing software and transfer the image as Tiff to your copy of CS2.
