Help! Network Connection Refused hooking to Itunes store

I have never had this issue before...
Everything else is working fine, I have a trip to colombia tomorrow and wanted some movies, but Itunes store is not working....
Here is what I get when I run diagnostics
Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 (Build 2600)
Sony Corporation VGN-T350P
iTunes 7.1.1.5

You disabled everything using MSConfig and the network connection was still refused? That's odd.
There may be some issue with your ISP, then. Do you have the ability to connect to the internet a different way, like a wireless access point? The fact that your connection was refused as opposed to simply timed out makes me think that there's something that is actively preventing iTunes from connecting to the iTunes Store.

See if this helps in your situation:
OK, all you people all over the world who have been having the same problem as me for weeks, months, a lifetime, here it is! If your warning/error reads "iTunes could not connect to the Music Store. The network connection was refused" and then the BS about checking to make sure your connection is active, well I found something on a forum at Digg.com that with one click WORKED LIKE MAGIC and I'm a happy camper now, rockin to stuff I finally got from the store.
Now before I print the fix, my previous situation was: I could connect to the Apple store site for products, etc. and could check my account, but I could not connect to the music store at all. In every other way, my internet connectivity was flawless. I tried to solve the problem, shut down every firewall or antivirus program I had, searched forums, fiddled with the registry (and THAT was a stupid move!), reinstalled itunes like HOW MANY TIMES, and even finally got a written email reply from iTunes support when I waah.., waah..., waah..ed long enough and they gave an answer that was WORSE than useless. Months passed. So if the above in total or in part describes you, her it is. It's safe and if it doesn't work, you can put things back the way they were without any problem.
This is the quote from the forum at Digg.com that did it for me:
"figured out the problem thanks to Peter on the badapple forums, in his great assistance:
"In your windows\system32\drivers\etc directory there is a file called hosts. Open it in notepad. You will see a line
    127.0.0.1 phobos.apple.com
place a # in front of that line so that it looks like this:
    #127.0.0.1 phobos.apple.com
and save the file. your problem should be resolved!"
That's it guys and gals. Also you might be sure that the phobos.apple.com domain is specifically allowed by your firewall/A-V software. Let me know if it helped!

    Evily,

SUCCESS!!! I tried many variations on this and it finally worked. Yes, as life4living says, you have to open the "hosts" file that you can find in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc
    ... use NotePad ...
At the bottom of the file, I found
    127.0.0.1 localhost
    and nothing about phobos.
AFter many attempts, I changed the end of the HOSTS file to this:
    # 127.0.0.1 localhost
    # 127.0.0.1 phobos.apple.com
and now iTunes music store and podcasts open up just fine.
Strange. The # character means "this is a comment" - so it's basically the same as removing the line completely.
The address 127.0.0.1 means "my machine" and this address is used by other apps such as Google Desktop. Hatching it out, however, does not adversely affect Google Desktop. So basically you have to hatch out any 127.0.0.1 address in the HOSTS file and then iTunes will work!
    Try it...
(I did, also, add phobos.apple.com to my "trusted sites" in Internet Explorer settings, but I don't think this was essential.)
After performing the above I found it only worked once after rebooting. I uninstalled Spybot Search and Destroy because it wouldn’t maintain some of the start up settings and cookies were getting nuked by another program I have in start up (Windows Washer).
Some other threads said to check firewall settings. I have free AVG. I went in and okay’d anything to do with iTunes. I also added the iTunes program to the list of approved processes in the AVG list and it seems iTunes is now working! Hope this helps!

    It's for windows.
    1. Press the Start Button in the (default) bottom
    left hand corner.
    2. Click on "My Computer".
    3. Click on (Default) C:.
    4. Find "WINDOWS" and open.
    5. Find "system 32" and open.
    6. Find "drivers" and open.
    7. Find "ect" and open.
    8. Find "hosts" and open.
    9. For a XP, a popup will open and show options to
    open it in.
    10. Select "Notepad" or "Word" or what ever you use
    for writing a document.
    11. At the bottom, if it says "127.0.0.1 localhost"
C&P This Over the 127.0.0.1 localhost:
    #127.0.0.1 localhost
    #127.0.0.1 phobos.apple.com
    If it only has 127.0.0.1 phobos.apple.com, add a "#"
    at the beginning.
    12. Restart your computer.
    Hope that helps!

  • My iPad keeps refusing to connect to my pc network. can't download from iTunes store.

mi iPad keeps refusing to connect to my pc/wifi network. can't download anything from iTunes, even just using it on my iPad.  even if I plug my iPad into my pc.  anyone know how to fix this?  please help!  thanks!

How about some details on your network?
What make/model router are you using?
Does your router have the latest firmware from the manufacturer?
What security type (WEP, WPA, WPA2) are you using?
What happens when you try to connect?
Does your iPad work on other networks, i.e., Borders, Starbucks, etc.?
As a stopgap it is possible to download iTunes store content from the iTunes program on your PC and sync that to your iPad (music, apps, videos, etc).

  • TS1424 ITunes store error help-network connection issue

I am trying to purchase a TV show and I keep getting an error message "Could not purchase TV show.  The Network Connection was reset.  Make sure network connection is active and try again".  My wireless internet is connected and I also restarted my computer and my wireless modem.  Can someone give me other possible suggestions to fix this problem?  Thank you in advance!

PS: I also went into Internet Explorer...
Selected Tools, selected Internet options, then selected Advanced Tab
Then I looked for the security section and made sure that SSL 2.0 was selected.
I was still unable to access iTunes Store.

  • ITunes cannot connect to the iTunes Store. The network connection refused

I guess this ends my relationship with the itunes store. Cannot connect despite following the boards recommended fixes, certificate changes, clock changes.
anyone else having issues connecting to the itunes store?

SO we rule out Winsock provider issue.
Can you try these entries in command prompt (Run as Administrator for Win7/Vista) one at a time?
    ipconfig /release
    then
    ipconfig /renew
    restart computer
    ipconfig /flushdns
totally shut down computer then restart.
    netsh winsock reset all
    restart computer
Now test your iTunes again. If that does not work, uninstall your Antivirus program and test again.

  • Network Connection Refused - Help

When I try to connect to the music store I receive an error message that says "iTunes could not connect to the music store. The network connection was refused." It further suggests that I check my network settings to see if they are active and correct. I have full access to the internet, which I would think would be the thing preventing me from connecting to the music store. I have not added a firewall; I have not added Service Pack 2; I have not changed ISPs, or changed any other thing that I can think of (or, more accurately, I have a firewall and Service Pack 2, but I had them before I ever used iTunes and was able to access the music store just fine with them in place). I have re-downloaded iTunes a few times but the same error message comes up. Does anyone have any ideas? I would greatly appreciate some assistance.

I decided to respond to my own post. I looked at all of the other posts having the same problem and followed all of the advice. I shut off firewalls and pinged phobos and checked servers and everything. Finally I uninstalled itunes altogether and installed version 6.0.1. After I did that, I was able to access the music store immediately. Now, this doesn't rule out a firewall problem, but it leads me think it is an Apple problem rather than a everyone else and their firewall problem. I would love to continue downloading new versions of iTunes, but I won't do so until the majority of the posts on this discussion group stop wondering why they "mysteriously" can no longer connect to the music store.
