Help - new pc build won't POST!

Hi
I've built a new pc for my wife. I spec'd it a little lower than my own due to cost considerations, also I wanted some compatibility of parts.
I've powered-up, but no BIOS POST runs. The fans power up, I can see the CD drive flashing for a few moments, the D bracket shows BIOS sign on lights from the moment I press the power-on switch. There's no light on the keyboard & the monitor is in power save. I have swapped out the graphics card as a test.
Can anyone help please?
System (my own system is in the sig):
MSI 865PE Neo2-P BIOS v? | Pentium 4 3.0gHz/800 HT | standard CPU cooler | Kingston PC3200 1GB dual ch (KVR400X64C3AK2/1G) | MSI FX5200 T128 | Samsung 120GB SATA | TDK 24x10x40 CDRW | Enermax Noisetaker EG425AX-VE 420W +3.3v=32a, +5v=36a, +12v=15a/14a | CoolerMaster Praetorian - Silver

1. I tried rebooting with nothing connected other than memory, cpu & graphics - same result.
2. Removed memory, then tried memory in the other slots - no effect.
3. Cleared CMOS - no effect.

  • Z77A-GD65 build won't post, I've tried everything I can think of...

    Hello all,
    Here are the parts:
    MSI Z77A-GD65 mobo
    Intel i5-3570K LGA 1155
    MSI N560GTX-TiHawk graphics card
    Samsung 30nm DDR3 RAM 2x 4gb
    Corsair H100 cooling
    Samsung 830SSD
Silverstone ST1000 1000watt power supply (this and my HDD are the only components from my old build and the HDD isn't attached)
I plug everything in, check and recheck, and all the fans and lights turn on for maybe a second and shut off with no beeps. I've RMA'd the board and processor to no avail. I've been breadboarding the build since the first time it failed to start. I checked the power supply with the paper clip test and on my old build to see if it was the problem and it was not as far as I can tell. It still functions as it should with the old build.
I followed multiple instructions to trouble shoot this problem and haven't gotten anywhere. I've tried with just the CPU, H100 and a stick of RAM and still get the same issue. I've tried both sticks separately in each socket and had the same issue, as well as a completely different set of sticks. I've switch the CPU cooler from the H100 to the stock one with no results. Reseated everything. Reset the CMOS. This build has never posted so nothing is overclocked and nothing has had any firmware updates. I've tried everything I can think of to get this problem fixed and I can't find the solution. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I should probably note that my old build is pretty old so most of the new parts aren't compatible with it so I can't update firmware and such on my own if those are possible issues.
    Thanks.
PS. Posting from my IPad so I apologize for any typos.

Are you saying that this is a new board and processor after having the same problems on the previous parts ?
I bought all the parts for this build, had the issue and though it was mobo caused so I sent that back. Then I had the same issue with the replacement so i sent the processor back. Same issue with the replace ment processor.

Just to ask a probably silly question, but does that old psu have the proper connectors? Are the 4 pin connectors near the cpu filled? Is the backplate on backwards and shorting something?
Yes, it has all the right ports and connections. The backplate is correct as far as I can tell.
After talking with MSI and a local computer shop my current best guess is that I got a board with an old version of the bios that isn't compatible with the processor I have. That means to bios will need to be flash updated, something I have no idea how to do. My local computer shop said they could do it for 65$ but with no garuntees if something goes wrong. So, I'm going to send it to MSI and have them do it.
Thanks for the ideas guys, if you can think of anything else let me know.

  • New Build, Won't POST, Debug code stays at 00

I just got done building a new MPOWER MAX with an I5-4670K.  The build is a new power supply, motherboard, CPU, RAM.  Video card I was using was in an old system and worked fine.  24 pin power, and the 2x 8 pin power supplies are all hooked up.
I have torn the PC back apart to where it's now just Motherboard, and CPU.  No RAM, no Video card, no HDD's, no DVD drive.  The system will not POST, and the Debug code never changes from 00.  I have even pulled off all the front panel Power/LED/Speaker connectors.
I have also tried switching the BIOS toggle switch, and cleared BIOS from the back panel.  I don't know where to go with this since it won't even give me a code of any kind.

  • Help new itunes upgrade won't open even when ipod is plugged in

Ok so evey time I click on the itunes icon in my start menu or plug in my ipod my computer makes that thinking noise they usually make when opening something and then nothing happens. I've also tried going into the itunes folder and clicking on files there and putting a cd in at which point no announcement comes up anymore asking me what I want the computer to do with it.
I don't know what to do and it's really frustrating! Please if anyone can help that would be hugely appreciated.

+I upgraded and now iTunes does not appear to open at all. The problem is error message free, like the original poster the outcome is the same if I use the icons on my desktop/start menu or click on the exe in the program folder. When I view the task manager it does not appear on the applications tab but Itunes.exe is a process on the process tab which can not be terminated (again with no error messages).+
That "itunes.exe process that will not die" is a familiar symptom ... What make and model of firewall are you running? Is it *Norton Internet Security 2005* by any chance?
I also just upgraded, itunes does not run, itunes.exe process comes up. I can end it though. Quicktime works, I also tried the 7.2 downgrade for quicktime also. I just uninstalled mcaffee, and also tried the msconfig troubleshooting, still no dice. I want the new ipod touch update, but I cant get it.

  • Help, new Droid 2, won't get 3g only 1x with flashing blue triangle

This is my 4th Droid 2, I like the phone and only go this new one after my last one got wet and had to be replaced.
I activated the new phone and it won't move off of the 1x (my old Droid 2 that is my desperation phone because it has some issues has 3g).
I spent 1.5 hours talking to a tech. who suggested I send the phone back as defective.  I did and order a new one from another company.  The same thing is happening, I still make and receive calls, I have internet; what I don't have is 3g and no idea what the problem is.

Talked to someone again today, still insist it is the phone.  I've had enough with Verizon, if I can return this phone I will quickly move to straight talk!!!!!!!!!!!  I am tired of the "up sale" on everything no matter what I call about.  I was basically told that if I don't buy the phone from Verizon, then I was on my own.

  • New P43 Mobo Won't POST

Here's the one line summary: Brand New MSI P43 Neo3-F 1.1 with Q6600 boots for 8 seconds, doesn't POST, turns self off, then back on for 1 second, then repeats.
Here's the full details. I've had this system for since June 2007. It was originally built with a XFX 680i LT mobo. Eventually, that system stopped booting (slowly degraded to no more POST) and I RMA'd the board. I got a new one that booted all of once before it refused to POST. I swore off XFX and went with this MSI. I have never seen the MSI POST. When I turn it on, it powers for about 8 seconds, then turns off for about 5 seconds, then turns on for about 1 second, then off for about 5 seconds and repeats. I was told my PSU could be too weak (I didn't agree, but figure it was worth a shot) I upgraded and I have the same results. Here is the current build:
    MSI P43 Neo3-F 1.1
    Q6600
    XFX 7600GS - 128 MB, Dual DVI
    2x1GB DDR2 RAM
    7200 SATA HDD
    2xDVD+RW
    PSU: 750 W Corsair (provides 720W on 12V Rail)
I originally had a Rosewill 500W which provided 380W on the 12V Rail, which should be enough for the original setup according to my calculations. I got the new PSU and I'm sticking with it. Is it possible that the PSU on my original setup damaged the MSI board - in just a few minutes? Is it possible that the Q6600 is damaged? I have seen a lot of posts about the Quads not being supported until a specific BIOS version - is that what I'm running into?
I haven't seen anyone report the power cycle thing I'm running into with the MSI - what gives?

  • Help! K9A2 Platinum won't post

Hi all, I hope you can give me some assistance with this problem.
I have just recently purchased a K9A2 platinum, put a 9500 in the socket, 4 gig ram.  Running vista 32 bit.  It was working okay, but CnQ was freezing up the computer.  I decided to update the bios to 1.1 using the usb tool (thanks, that is a great tool).  I did not clear the CMOS after doing this, but the system seemed to run fine.  AMD AOD has never given me core temps, I don't know if anyone else experiences that, but it never did when I initially built the system using WinXP either.
Regardless, I noticed that the 12V line was reading 8.5 V according to AOD so I was concerned (I have a Antec Quattro 850 and only one HD, one DVD and a old ATI x700 (my 3870 has not shown up yet)) so there is not that significant a power draw.  I figured, that before performing any voltage measurements, I would clear the CMOS and then test it.  So this morning I turned off the PS, unplugged it and switched the clear CMOS jumper, then switched back.  Now the system will not post at all.  It turns on.  It has not given any post codes on the speaker (I had to pull an old one from another system as my case did not have one).  So is my CPU dead?  My mobo?  What?  How do I resurect the system?  What could have happened?
    Thanks for any assistance,
    Mark

Success!  Thank you all for all of the suggestions.
Here is what I did.  Some of it may be slightly offensive
First, at work we have had great success using a small Buddy Jesus statue for curing computer ills.  So I borrowed said statue and placed it in the case.
The system has only the video card, processor and one stick of ram.
I tried clearing the CMOS again - no go
I tried swapping out the ram with another brand and size- no go.
I finally tried swapping the processor - no go.  Always the same symptoms.
I had a thought that maybe the battery was bad, so I pulled that and tried booting batteryless.  After a couple of tries, the system would not come on any more.
I replaced the battery, powered up and there is the boot screen.
So it seems that the CMOS was not really cleared, the booting batteryless seemed to have helped.  I don't really get it.
I replaced the processor, original ram, HD, DVD, still no front panel, but the system comes up into vista no probs.  Temp of cpu is a little higher than before, but that may be because I had to redo the HS compound and since I am waiting for a new heat sink ...
I was originally planning to try bios 1.12 - but I think I will hold off on any bios updates until v1.2 or something shows up.
So that is the end of that saga.
Just two final questions: Is there any chance of a bios update that will provide for turning on the system using the keyboard?  It can wake, but how about power up (kinda like the K9A sticky thread).
    2) Near the cmos jumper are another pair of pins - just what are those for?  They are awfully close to the clear cmos pins.  I really am just curious what they do (and I don't want to mess with them!).
    Thanks,
    Mark
I think what you did was a "Clean" reset of the CMOS, I normally pull the plug out of the wall, remove the battery, place the CMOS jumper in reset and then hit the start switch a couple of times to make sure the PSU's capacitors are completely depleted then I try to wait a couple of minutes, put the CMOS Jumper to default reinstall the battery and plug it back in to the wall, hit the start button. ....... Some people say just turning off the PSU switch in back will work as well, I say they are just lazy.  If you absolutely want to be sure, unplug it!
I thought I had a problem with my K9A2 CF board, but I was just trying crossfire too early.
I also have a Antec 850 and I am somewhat luke cool toward it.  For sure next PSU will be a PC Power & Cooling 750 or similar, I will go back to a single rail.

  • HELP! Viewer builder won't accept my adobe ID!

I'm using the same Adobe ID (which is the only one that I've used since the beginning of the process) to open the viewer builder and everything in DPS and this screen won't accept it. Is this a common issue? I already uninstalled it and installed it again and it doesn't seem to budge.
I'm really desperate, since I need to have this uploaded ASAP.
Any pointers? I appreciate your collaboration.

Initially booted up in Asian language and won't change.  Also, won't go past first menu.  Got it at Best Buy yesterday 2/7/2012.  Should I return and get another?

  • New P7N Diamond Won't Post

Just got it from CompUSA today after a Gigabyte mobo from newegg was DOA. Set it up with everything correct, put together with working parts from my old PC. 8800GTS BFG Video card 4 Gigs of Corsair Ram E8400 etc. Starts up, all fans running no beeps or anything, NO VIDEO will not show any signs of video. Used 2 other 8800 gts' and used both VGA ports on all cards, swapped around ram, used bare minimum, reset the bios, nothing nothing nothing. Should I RMA it?

What is the BIOS version? See label on the BIOS chip on your MB, location in picture below.
     Which e8400 - SLAPL  C0 or SLB9J  E0?

  • New Build 770-G45 won't post

    Hi,
I doing a new build for a friend, I've built 4 systems to date but haven't had much trouble so I don't have much experience trouble shooting.
This is the issue so far, if I clear the CMOS when I boot up everything seems fine, the bios posts, I can enter setup, and everything seems to be recognized.
Once I save and re-boot I get the splash screen followed by a blinking cursor on a blank screen, in other words the bios won't post.
I'm wondering if I have a problem with my memory (see specs below), I've noticed the mainboard recognizes it as 1333, I read the sticky on memory, but I'm still not sure what to do here.
    Thanks

Looks like I should have researched this RAM more carefully, it looks like it only works for AMD 785 series and higher.
    Do you guys agree?

  • IPhoto 7.1 won't post new web gallery

Since I upgraded to iPhoto 7.1, it won't post toany new web galleries. Here's exactly what happens:
After I create the new web gallery in iPhoto it shows the spinning icon next to it as if its succesfully uploading it but it stops in seconds and nothing happens. If I try to click the refresh button next to the gallery it disappears from the list. Help?
I find this to be unacceptable as I payed good money for both .mac and iPhoto.

Wow! I hope Apple is reading this. Just tried to post a new album to my web gallery, which worked perfectly yesterday before the upgrade that I installed this morning, and now the web gallery button no longer works. It seemed to work until I looked at my previously posted gallery. On the web it showed a greater number of photos installed but only the photos from my earlier gallery were there. When I looked back at iPhoto, the web gallery icon at the bottom had disappeared. So I closed and opened iPhoto again, the gallery icon re-appeared. Tried to upload my album again. Stalled. The icon disappeared. BUGGY!!!! How do I remove the upgrade?

  • **Help, blank monitor on New PC build with NX8400GS-TD series**

    Hello,
I am having a problem with my new computer build:
    Mainboard : MSI X48C Platinum
    CPU:Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550
PSU: Ultra 650 Watt Atx power supply
    Memory : 4 Gig DDR3PC3-8500
HDD: 500 Gig WD Caviar SE16 ATA 7200/16MB/SATA-3G
    Video Card: NX8400GS-TD Series
DVD Drive: LG 22X DVDRW SATA OEM (L49-1028 OEM )
The problem is that when I turn on my computer it powers on but I am getting a blank screen on my monitor. I have tried removing all devices (HD, DVD Drive) and leave the barebones, but it still does nothing. I know that the monitor that I am using is good because I tried it on a different computer and it works. can anyone please help me out?
    Thanks

There is no way to check the video card without using another video card
Exactly (unless you have have a diagnostic/P.O.S.T. Status PCI Card which will show you each P.O.S.T. Checkpoint that is successfully passed).  You could, of course, also test the card in another system.
    Quote
How do I know if it posts without being able to see the screen?
Usually, you don't.  That is what makes trouble-shooting so hard sometimes.
    Quote
you said to take the video card out to see if it posts, how do i know if it posts if i can't see anything?
You have misunderstood what I was saying.  During the  Power-On-Self Test, the initialization of the output devices happens rather late in the test cycle.
    You decribed this behaviour earlier:
    Quote
ok, i am making backward progress now. before i got it to power up by:
    1) turning on power on psu and then
    2) pressing the power button on the computer case
Now it doesn't even power on and it tries to power up when I only:
    1) try turning on the power on the psu
When I do the above the fans spin for a second then nothing.
These symptoms do not really indicate the video card.  If you remove the card and the same symptoms occur, you can more or less be sure that these problems are not caused by the card as such.  You do not need to see anything on the screen to be able to oberve the power-on behaviour of the systems.
    Quote
    It can't be the following:
CMOS (I cleared it multiple times)
Shorting of the case (I took it out of the case)
CPU (I checked the CPU Pins and it is fine)
Well, then there is other stuff left to check:
    Quote
    - forgotten CMOS Clear (while the main A/C power cable is unplugged from your PSU)
    - shorting issue inside the case
    - a problematic or failing PSU (or: not all power connectors hooked up properly)
    - broken or bent CPU Socket Pins
    - memory problems
    - a bad/damaged motherboard (either DOA (damaged during shipping), damaged during handling/installing (electrostatic discharges, damaged by a short circuit inside the case) etc.)
    - and yes, a bad video card (but this is not very likely in my opinion) ---> If it was the video card, the system should turn on and stay on (the P.O.S.T. should stop during output device initialization) ---> So, this is easy to check:  Test without the video card.  If the system shows the same on/off behaviour, it is not the card causing this)
