Help:  New PC / Lost Music

I have a new PC. I downloaded iTunes from the Web and all my prior purchases were there once my iPod synced. Or all my tunes were there before I synced. In either case my music was there. So, I purchases 14 new songs. A couple days later when I synced again, all my prior purchases were gone. I followed the help steps and located the 14 recently purchases songs in the iTunes Libraries folder. However, none of my earlier songs (100+) can be found.
Why are these not in the library or some other location in my PC? Are there any steps I can take to recover these songs? Thank you.

I Had exactly the same problem. Lost much of my music and basically was told "too bad".  Pretty bad customer service and I will never again trust Apple for allowing this to happen without any warning whatsoever! Stupid me for trusting Apple when they said all my music would be available to me! Instead of making my life simpler/easier, it was a nightmare. Should have read all the comments/complains before I considered this purchase. Couldn't get my purchase money back but I did remember to stop the automatic renewal. My advice to anyone is: don't make this purchase unless you will always have internet connection and only have purchased tunes from iTunes!

  • Help: nano and lost music

Last week my computer got a virus, so i contacted dell and they guided me through a total system restore. First of all, I backed up all of my music in my library. Unfortunately, during the transfer some of my files were lost. However, i have all the music on my ipod nano (1st gen.) but i am afraid that if i connect my nano to my computer it will wipe the files on my nano and replace with them with the files in my itunes library. What should I do? Is ther any way that i can connect my nano without losing the music that is already on it??
    Mike

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod to a computer
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

    iDump Windows Only
    SharePod Windows Only
    iRepo Mac and Windows
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac and Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows
There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • HELP New user, importing Music from library ( WMA )

I am a new user to Itunes ( bit late i know ).
I need to move my music ( my music folder ) into itunes.
I have over 40Gb of music. If i import music folder through Itunes using the file > Import folder menu, i am lead to belive that firstly all my music will need to be converted to Mp3. this is not a problem althouigh i am sure it will take a long time.
My main worry is that when converting the music into itunes the origional my music folder will stay where it is therefore doubling up my music to over 80Gb and therefore will not fit on my hard drives.
i tried to cut and paste my music files into the itunes music folder within my music although it doesnt appear in my library???
    Any help appreciated!!!!
    Many thanks.
    Dell PC   Windows XP

Moving files into the iTunes library doesn't comvert them to MP3.
iTunes can only use unprotected WMA files. If you are trying to add protected WMA songs, they won't go into the iTunes library.
You can leave all the music files where they are. iTunes will only copy them to the iTunes folder if you have that option checked.

  • Help....I synced my old iphone to mac book pro and lost music

Help....I synced my old iphone to mac book pro and lost music. Is there a way to recover my music?

Not if it isn't in your itunes library.  If you sync with a new computer iTunes will delete all iTunes media (such as music) from your phone and replace it with whatever media is in the new iTunes library.  Sounds like that's what happened.

Are you using the same ID for homesharing on all devices.
By the way shared libraries don't show up under either 'Music' or 'Libraries'.

Hello, I synchronized my iPhones with iTunes, having a new laptop, I had to do this step. But instead of helping it, I lost many applications. All my good applications disappeared. How do I get them back? What I have to do? I bought those app!!!
How is this possible? How can the iTunes eat what I bought and what for? To buy the applications again?! Geez!
Tell me the solution. It must exist one!

You can redownload you previously purchased apps for free as long as they are still available in the app store.  Be sure you are logged into the Apple ID in iTunes used to purchase them, then follow this guide: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519.

  • Got new iPod, deleted iTunes, lost music

My friend recently got a new iPod (and turned the old one in for a discount). My friend's new iPod would not sync with old iTunes, so she tried to upgrade it. For some reason it wouldn't. In frustration, she deleted iTunes from Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel. Now she realizes that iTunes is gone and her iPod is empty. Is all of her music gone forever? Or 1) is there a remaining library of music or 2) does the iTunes store allow you to download your purchased music again? Thank you for any assistance!

Hi, the music files should still be on the PC. Here is an article on finding lost music.

Need help. I lost my installation CD for my for my new AirPort Extreme (802.11n). How can I download the new Admin Utility?

    Hi Gr8Tucano,
Currently the Airport Utility does not appear to be on the downloads page, you can call Apple support line to receive a replacement disk, but be aware there may be a charge for replacement CDs.

  • Lost music off ipod when connected to new computer....

Found an ipod (never had one before and don't know much about it). Plugged it into my new computer, and all the music on the ipod disappeared. Didn't show up in my iTunes library. Found some of the music in My Computer, but not all music was listed there. I thought all songs had been deleted, but iPod shows most of it's memory is still being used. Question #1: Why are only some of the songs showing in My Computer? Question #2: Is there any way to retrieve all the "lost" music? Question #3: Why is iPod memory so full if I can't see any music on the iPod? Sorry to be so clueless!

This ipod was lost at a ski resort and we gave the owner 2 years to inquire about it, which he never did. After a customer has been contacted about a lost item and doesn't reply that season, the item is donated or given to employees to pick and choose from. We gave him 2 years.
You would be suprised how many ipods, cell phones, car keys, etc. are lost and never inquired about.
I reset the ipod to it's original factory settings and have a buddy who is going to download the songs from his ipod to mine. Since we like the same type of music this will work best for me since most of the music originally on the ipod was crap anyway.
Thanks for you snide comment instead of answering my question Chris.

  • In need of help regarding lost music

Yesterday, I tried to move music (bought on itunes) from ipod touch to PC. I went to itunes on the computer, clicked file, clicked transfer purchased files and......lost lots of music. Music is not on the PC and no longer on the ipod touch. How do I retrieve the lost music? Keep in mind all itunes are purchased using ipod touch, there isn't a library of music on PC.

What happened when you tried to transfer the music/ Any error messages? Was computer authorized for the itunes account that purchased the music? Did the iPod crash and not complete the transfer? Does the iPad work alright after or did you have to do something with it? You can't redownload music without paying again. However, sometimes you can plead with an iTunes person and they will allow a redownload at no cost.
