Help! - New Podcast feed in iWeb 2.0

I have been putting off updating to iWeb 2.0, as I have been following all the problems with it changing the RSS feed and not redirecting your podcast. I have over 3,500 subscribers to my podcast and don't want to risk messing it up.
I have read through all the archives, and tried to make sense of how to redirect it, but the descriptions lack specifics ".... go to your feed folder, and change the feed to the new one ...." etc. What folder, where, change what "specifically"? "..... do a 302 redirect ..." Huh? How, where?
Can someone please do a "Changing your iTunes RSS feed for Dummies"? With specific, detailed, step by step explanation. I really need to do it right and not lose my subscribers.
This would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.
Todd

Anyone? Anyone at all? I see this question still being asked by others as well. Anyone have any tips on this, it would be so appreciated.
Thanks!

  • Feed already submitted message on a new podcast feed?!?

    Hi all,
I successfully submitted a podcast last year - here's the feed
    http://www.carlturner.net/media/Podcasts/feeds/podcast01.xml
Come to submit a second podcast based on the code of the first feed
    http://www.carlturner.net/media/Podcasts/feeds/podcast02.xml
Validated it - checked it downloaded to itunes but came to submit it and got the message 'It appears the feed has already been submitted'
How can this be? I know it's always something simple but I can't seem to suss this one. Any helpers?
    Cheers

It's because the second podcast has the same name as the earlier one. If you change the title slightly in some way it will probably be accepted - you can change the title back when it has been.

  • Can anyone help - my podcast feed is not updating

    Hi,
Can't get my latest episode picked up by iTunes although the feed passes routine validity check. It's active on feedburner now. This is episode 160+ of a weekly cast - I have never had to wait more than a few hours to see it picked up in iTunes.
I know standard answers to the question are to give it a couple of days, but - again, I have never seen such a delay before and wonder if something else is amiss.
    I access iTunes here: https://itunes.apple.com/au/podcast/cheap-astronomy-podcasts/id323506039.
My active feedburner rss is here (with new episode): http://feeds.feedburner.com/CheapAstronomyPodcasts
    Thanks,
    Steve

A delay of a couple of days is entirely normal, though it does vary quite a bit. Your latest episode does appear when subscribing: the Store will pick it up when it gets round to checking your feed.

  • Itunes not updating new Podcast feeds

We have 50 different weekly shows that have been updating fine until this last Monday. Nothing has changed on this end. Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

Well I'm really glad I have found this, ill tell you why.
I own crankygamersuk.net, now due to my very limited resources I have always gone with a free hosting service, which severely limits my space, meaning I can only get 2 of my podcast on there at a time, consequentially I have to delete the oldest whenever I put the latest one on.
Now I tell you this so you can understand my problem.
So this has been the case for nearly 3 years of my podcast, and not once have we had any problems, until now.
For some unknown reason, people who are subscribed to my cast on there mobile device are only getting to see the last 2 episodes showing up, even though I have put the latest one up, and deletes the old one.
Example, go check itunes now for "cranky gamers uk", and you will see only episodes 91 and 92, and yet last Friday, I deleted 91 from my host, and uploaded 93.
So right now anyone on a mobile device can not get the podcast the way they used to because Itunes is not updating fast enough.
Of course if you go on a PC or Mac, you can right click and select update to receive the latest show.
But that is not good enough, I have many mobile subscribers.
So can someone tell me what the latest situation is, and what the best option is, this is effecting my subscriptions.
Also would you contact support?, if so anyone have best address for inquiries.
    thanks

  • Hosting Account Suspended and iTunes Podcast Feed Altered

Months ago my company had our web hosting account suspended because we forgot to update our credit card info. Our web hosting company suspended our account without notice, and iTunes pinged our podcast feed while the site was suspended.
The iTunes feed now directs to the generic "account suspended" URL that our former web host made our site redirect to. I can't inset a tag into the code of this page because I do not have access to it. I've contact the company's support several times about it, but no response. I've contacted Apple about it and all I receive are general answers about redirecting a feed.
Is there any way to resolve this issue without creating a new podcast feed under a new name, losing all subscribers, ratings, and comments?

Is there any way to resolve this issue without creating a new podcast feed under a new name, losing all subscribers, ratings, and comments?
Unless you are able to persuade Apple to change the feed manually - and it sounds as if you can't - I'm afraid that is your only option. It's a serious weakness in the iTunes Store system that changing the feed URL method can't be used when the original feed can't be accessed.

  • My feed not refreshing new podcasts on iTunes, even after 2 months. help

    hi All
I'm very new at this, but I have been battling to get my feed refreshed on iTunes for over 2 months. but nothing has happened.
    podcasting feed: http://www.badilishapoetry.com/podcasts/podcast.xml
    itunes page: http://itunes.apple.com/za/podcast/badilisha-poetry/id369675119
(i have the Feed Validator report if that helps at all?? it doesn't help me much)
I initially posted the first batch - 23 to itunes using the free version of Lemondreamz' Podcaster. I then posted the next batch, importing the Podcaster feed, into Reinvented Software's Feeder software. But now here is my problem ...
it won't refresh the information on iTunes, or upload any of the new episodes. And now, having spent 2 months trying, I am more confused than I was when I started it.
I've tried pretty much everything that I can to sort it out, and two podcasters have tried to help, to no avail, what do I do to sort this out? Can anyone help?

In fact iTunes is not looking for the feed at the URL you give, but at
    http://www.badilishapoetry.com/
This of course brings up a web page which obviously iTunes does not recognize. I can't say how tit comes to have this address. However the feed you link to has this tag in the top section:
    <itunes:new-feed-url>http://www.badilishapoetry.com/podcasts.xml</itunes:new-feed-url>
And this will have redirected iTunes to a non-existent feed at that address.
    Furthermore, the feed at
    http://www.badilishapoetry.com/podcasts/podcast.xml
reads in Firefox and validates in FeedValidator, but I could not subscribe manually to it (from the 'Advanced' menu in iTunes) - iTunes complained it could not find the file. I can't explain this unless your server is doing something very odd.
I'm afraid you are now painted into a corner. In order to get iTunes back on track you would have to place a working feed with the redirect tag at the URL it now has, and I doubt you can do this.
This leaves you with only two options: one is to abandon the podcast (you should ask to get it removed - details here: you would need to change the title slighly or you will be told it has already been submitted.
Your second option is to ask the iTunes Store to redirect the feed to the actual feed address: I have to say they are often not very helpful, tending simply to send back standard answers (or redirect you back to this forum), but someone did manage to get this done so I suppose you lose nothing by trying. Their Support is at http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/ - click on 'Other iTunes Store Features' in the list and then on 'Podcasts'.
However, you first need to get the feed working. You should test it choosing 'Subscribe to Podcast' from the 'View' menu in iTunes. If this isn't working there's no point in following either option until it is. I can't explain why it's working in browsers but not in iTunes: if you have some sort of redirect in place to another URL where the feed is actually situated (such as a web.me.com address used with Personal Domain) try manually subscribing with that.
On top of all this, the links to the media files in your feed, e.g.
    http://www.badilishapoetry.com/june/liesl.mp3
don't work and bring up your domain name provider's 'not found page.

  • New Podcast Artwork help

    Hi there,
I created a new podcast which is now live in the iTunes Podcast Directory. The problem is that my artwork is not showing up. I have the itunes:image tag properly filled and the image appears when I navigate to it directly in a web browser.
    The Podcast Channel is: http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/onone-university-webinars/id416896519
    The feed is: http://ononesoft.cachefly.net/video/webinar/podcast/feed.xml
The image is located at: http://ononesoft.cachefly.net/video/webinar/podcast/images/webinarlogo1.jpg
I don't want to start promoting the channel until I can get the artwork posted.
    Any help is greatly appreciated!
    Thank you,
    Brian

    Hello,
I've been trying to get my cover art to show up on iTunes since Nov/Dec. (See thread below). Roger confirmed my information was good to go, I've talked to iTunes support, and waited patiently, but no cover art work shows up in the iTunes Store. All I get is Apple's default purple podcast logo.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2686636&tstart=0
Could you please tell me more about changing the reference to a smaller image? What size was it before and after? Are you using iWeb? After referencing a smaller image, did you do anything else or did iTunes suddenly pick it up?
    My cover art was 300px X 300px and I just reduced it to 295px X 295pm.

  • I'm new.  How do I update my feed after posting a new podcast?

I'm sure this has been asked a bazillion times but i haven't found an answer.
I just joined iTunes and received a confirmation email that my podcast feed has been accepted.  The email states,
After adding a new episode, update your feed in the fastest possible manner with the ping service by visiting this URL:
    https://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZFinance.woa/wa/pingPodcast?id=(ID REMOVED)
But when I click the link it instead takes me to this link...
    http://itunes.apple.com/us/genre/ios/id36?mt=8&id=(IDREMOVED)
And I cannot find any option to update my feed.  Please help and thanks!

Once your feed has been accepted you are given the URL to the iTunes Store, which is presumably what the second link you have posted is.
You don't have to interact with the Store any further. Just add a new episode to the podcast and re-upload the feed. Subscribers will see the new episode immediately, but it usually takes the Store a day or two, occasionally longer, to catch up.
Incidentally I don't know where you saw the instruction to ping the Store, but that facility was removed over a year ago. (Not that it ever did much good anyway). The Store will update when it gets round to your feed.

  • Moving Podcast New RSS Feed

I am having to move my podcast from self-hosted to Podbean.
    (1)
TO set up the new podcast, Podbean asks for my iTunes Feed ID.
Is this the numerical string after the id below (current link at iTunes store - behind album art):
    xxxxxxxxxt/id303623613?mt=2
or is it something different (does it include the letters id)
    (2)
How do I change the RSS feed on iTunes?
Do I let Podbean submit the new feed to my existing iTunes Feed ID?
Or do I have to change the RSS feed in iTunes? How?
(I want to be sure to keep reviews, listings, etc.)
    THANKS!

Because the new feed carries the same podcast title as the old one iTunes thinks it is the same podcast and gives you the 'already submitted' message. Searching on 'Pink Soup' throws up two podcasts in iTunes: one of them carries the same episodes as the Feedburner page minus the latest item.
You would do better to submit an XML file directly to iTunes rather than letting Feedburner do it: there have been complaints of problems with Feedburner and iTunes.
If you felt up to re-titling your podcast you could submit it as a new one. If you are able to get at the XML file now being used by iTunes you could post a new XML file and redirect iTunes to it from the old one:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/store/podcaststechspecs.html#changing

  • Adding a new podcast entries page in iweb

I am sure this is basic stuff, but it is escaping me. I built an iweb site (published in Mobile Me). I added a video podcast page then added the first video podcast entry. All went well. I want to add another video podcast entry and this is where I get lost. I assumed that I could duplicate the first entry page I created, edit it and add the new video podcast and publish. I am unable to duplicate the page. I have a rather highly customized page and really do not want to recreate it from scratch. Maybe I do not need a podcast page and I should just use a movie page, though I did want subscribe feature. If you want to take a look visit http://web.me.com/waynek1/Site_2/Podcast/Podcast.html Thanks

The feed URL you give redirects to http://kaufmak.wordpress.com/category/podcasts/feed/ which is the URL being used by iTunes. This feed has only the one episode in it, that of 15 February, and that shows in the Store and when subscribing.
You are creating your feed in Wordpress: so if you have added an episode there you haven't taken  whatever steps are necessary to get it into the feed - I'm afraid I can't advise on WordPress. You can only edit description and other data in WordPress; Chrome will allow you to examine the feed but not edit it.

  • Help with new Podcast please..

I am trying to publish a new Podcast, but it has been rejected and I wondered if anyone can help me please - this is the message I received:
    Dear Podcast Owner
The podcast located at the URL shown below has been blocked or removed from the iTunes directory as a result of technical problems with the feed.  Name: 1Mix Radio Podcast
    Feed URL: http://www.1mix.co.uk/podcast.xml
If you wish to reactivate your podcast in the iTunes directory, please troubleshoot your feed and check the functionality of each episode. To test your podcast, start iTunes, select Subscribe to Podcast from the Advanced menu, and enter your feed URL in the dialog box. If you can successfully subscribe to your podcast and listen to each of the episodes, you can reactivate your podcast by sending an email request to [email protected]  For more information on troubleshooting feed problems and controlling the appearance of your podcast on iTunes, please see the podcast FAQ at http://www.apple.com/itunes/podcasts/faq.html and technical specification at http://www.apple.com/itunes/podcasts/techspecs.html.
    Sincerely,  The iTunes Store Team
I have validated my XML file and it passes fine, I can also insert the Podcast URL into iTunes and it downloads and plays the Podcast, so I am at a loss to work out where I'm going wrong..
When I sync with my iPhone, my Podcast is synced but I get an error message saying it couldn't be synced because it can't be found
    Can anyone help please?

I don't have an iPhone to check this with: I asasume it's reading the feed directly? - so that the fact that it's not in the Store yet is immaterial.
The only thing I can think of is that the URL given in the feede for the episode file:
    http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/1mixRadioWeeklyTrancePodcast/~5/vb3F8uHaGX0/Cylen th_Vision_-_A_Vision_Of_Trance_01.mp3
    redirects to the actual URL
    http://podcast.1mix.co.uk:8080/podcast/Cylenth_Vision_-_A_Vision_Of_Trance_01.mp 3
and it may be that the iPhone won't handle the redirect. I can only suggest you ask in the iPhone Forum where someone may be able to check and advise.

  • Old podcast rss feed no longer exists, do I need to creat a new podcast show for new rss feed?

    Hi,
I have an established podcast (Tommy Unit Live) but the RSS feed is no longer valid. Do I need to request a new show (set up a new show) to update with the currect RSS feed?
Thanks for any help anyone can provide.
    Tom Meehan

Do you mean that the old feed no longer exists and you don't have access to the server to replace it? In that case your best hope is to email Support at podcasts 'at' apple.com and ask them to transfer the iTunes Store's attention to the new feed: give them the ID number or the URL of the Store page, and the URL of the new feed - check this beforehand by subscribing manually in iTunes (from the 'Advanced' menu) so that you are sure you are dealing with a working feed.
They've just done this for someone else so hopefully they will do it for you: the alternative is to start again from scratch and submit the new feed as a completely new podcast (you would need to change the title slightly or you will be told it has already been submitted).

  • I need some help with my new podcast. Please!

I've just set up a new podcast and it's online on itunes. The xml file is hosted on my website. Can i edit the text within this file...i.e. if there is a spelling mistake...ping this...and itunes will update it? Cos i tried doing that but no changes were made...any ideas?
Also, to generate my xml file, i used this website
    http://www.podcastblaster.com/podcast-feed/index.php
However i noticed that feedburner allows you to collate statistics on subscribers and podcast downloads....how can i switch to feedburner? i find this all so confusing. does anyone know what im talking about?

From looking at their site, Podblaster creates the feed file from the data you give it: so it's no good you editing the feed file yourself as Podblaster will over-write it the next time you add an episode. Any changes you make to data or episode in Podblaster will cause an amended version of the feed file to be uploaded and this will eventually be reflected in the itunes Store; it usually takes 1-2 days, occasionally longer, for new episodes to appear in the Store, and it's possible that minor amendments to the texts won't show until you upload a new episode.
To take advantage of Feedburner's statistics facilities you need to submit the feed to Feedburner, and then submit the feed it generates to the iTunes Store. This will involve you either using the procedure detailed here (which involves adding a special tag to the feed - something you may well not be able to do) or submitting this feed as a new podcast to the Store (which will necessitate making a small change to the name).
If you have any further queries please post both the URL of your feed and of the iTunes Store page (please include the http:// in both cases), without which it's possible only to give very general answers.

I am in desperate need of help to figure out why my podcast feed isn't being accepted by iTunes. Can anyone review my feed and guide me as to what is going on:

Thanks in advance for any help.

Podcasts can be rejected for any number of reasons.
It looks to be a valid RSS feed. I noticed that you are not using any iTunes specific tags, such as <itunes:Category>, <itunes:explicit>, <itunes:duration>, etc... If you have explicit content, such as swearing, adult content, etc... and you do not include an <itunes:explicit>yes</itunes:explicit> tag it can be rejected.
Check out the iTunes tech spec for more info:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/store/podcaststechspecs.html
Look under "submission queue" for possible reasons for rejection. Also look at the example feed and iTunes RSS tags sections...
