Help!  New to Mac! Pictures will not load on Safari (blue question marks)

Sometimes when I surf the web (especially sites like Facebook.com), pictures will not load. They turn into little blue check marks. Eventually, none of the pictures on the webpage will load. I have to shut down Safari, reboot my computer, and then pictures load again for a little while. Any advice? Please help!

... you may have something slowing your connection if you are wireless...I get this from time to time and believe that it is generally a connection speed issue related to interference or distance from my airport. The signal is usually great, but drops off from time to time.

I do not have any experience with Final Cut, but if you have existing projects that you MUST access; then you are in need of a solution on your new iMac in Mountain Lion!
Unfortunately you got caught up in the minor miracle of Rosetta.  Originally licensed by Apple when it migrated from the PowerPC CPU platform that it had used from the mid-1990's until the Intel CPU platform in 2006, Rosetta allowed Mac users to continue to use their library of PPC software transparently in emulation.
However, Apple's license to continue to use this technology expired with new releases of OS X commencing with Lion (and now Mountain Lion).  While educational efforts have been made over the last 6 years, the fact is that Rosetta was SO successful that many users were caught unaware UNTIL they upgraded to Lion or Mountain Lion.
    Workarounds:
    1.  Purchase a used Mac that will run Snow Leopard (with the optional Rosetta installed) and continue to run FCE on that Mac (you can actually use Screen Sharing with a "headless" used Snow Leopard Mac Mini and use the 27" screen from your iMac to view and work FCE in the Mac Mini environment);
    2.  Upgrade to an Intel compatible version of FCE and hope it converts your existing projects to its newer format correctly.  There is much debate that the newer version of Final Cut are eliminating many needed features; for example Final Cut Pro X vs. Final Cut Pro 6 -- many users are staying with version 6;
    3.  Install Snow Leopard (with Rosetta) into Parallels and then install FCE in the Snow Leopard environment:

Full Snow Leopard installation instructions here:
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1365439
NOTE: STEP ONE of the instructions must currently be completed on a Snow Leopard or Lion Mac and the resulting modified Snow Leopard.cdr install file can then be moved over to your Mountain Lion Mac for completion of the remaining steps.
NOTE 2:  Computer games with complex, 3D or fast motion graphics make not work well or at all in virtualization.

  • Mac mail will not load emails anymore, just keeps "Loading..."

    Hello,
For some reason, mac mail will not load previous emails. It is only one account, when I click on that mailbox, it just keeps "Loading" and never retreives emails. The acounts are fine. It was fine 5 minutes ago, now it is not. This has happened once in the past and it was never resolved. I recreated the account, and lost all the emails.
    Please help!
    Thank you,
    Greg

I just discovered I was a life saver, thanks for the kudos everyone.
Why? It's not your fault. It's because how Apple Mail stores mail, it simply is not robust enough.
A robust program assumes that it may crash at any moment while writing to any of its files, and that there will be undiscovered, rarely occurring bugs that will have similar effect. The damage it does needs to be detected later and then repaired automatically or degraded gracefully so only one mail is lost, and not all of them.
Evidently, Apple fails to do so or didn't do a thorough job.
For mail this is really urgent, because a mail program does many things simultaneously which increases the chance that things go wrong once in a while, and on top email comes from the wild world outside and can contain many types of junk that need to be contained. Mail server delivery data muck, deliberate attempts to hack your mailbox by mail, phishing attempts, html newsletters made by Neanderthalers or marketeers, other buggy mail programs, poorly made phising mails, regular spam, you name it.
So there are a lot of possible 'runaway cars' that may dent another in the parking lot, but this should never cause an entire parking lot building to tilt so all the cars roll to one side of the floor and while still there, can't open the doors anymore.
Computer science made many solutions for this the past 3 decades and it isn't even that hard to do, many file formats have auto-recovery features.
For example: You may have seen a movie on TV or internet, or skype conversation that goes into "weird blocks" a few seconds and then go back to normal. That's damaged data and auto-recovery of the data format kicking in to fix it or at least reduce the damage. Without it, you'd be looking at digital snow for the rest of the show. Apple does the latter to your mail.
In modern databases this is done all the time, because a company can't afford to lose all of its financial data because 1 record went bad or there once was a power outage. For a user, losing his/her mail can be just as catastrophic. If they can, Apple can. Come on.
But that answer won't help ya, unless someone at Apple actually READS these threads and feels intense SHAME that they did not listen to that inner voice saying: hmm it looks spiffy now but we really gotta work on the internals a bit more. No, data is not sexy. Yes, it's boring. But it's necessary. Remember Steve's step father taught his son that the backside of a drawer should also be made neatly. Dad was right folks.
Since this mail I'm going into my 3rd combat with Mocrosoft Exchange which is another factor that, while it should be better than regular mail, also is another rogue runaway car that dents the fragile internal file structure of Apple Mail.
    Yours truly, an Apple fanboy.

ebay will not load on safari, firefox or camino, but all other sites load without any problems. Why is this? Can anyone help?

It should be: Click on Home Folder (the House) and to the right Library is shown, click on the arrow on the Library folder to reveal its contents and then click on Cookies to reveal its contents and then move the Cookies.plist to the Trash as Carolyn suggests.
    Then try eBay again.

  • Podcast will not load in safari from server, but will load in other Apps

Podcast will not load in safari from iWeb Page from server, but will load in Firefox and other web apps.
Here the problem: I have a podcast page made in iWeb. It is setting on a server with GoDaddy. When I try load page with Safari, I get where the Quicktime Playing Bars are a small Quicktime Logo w/? mark and will not download or play. But in Firefox, My iPad and in Windows side it will load and play. Also it play on a friends Macbook Pro in Safari. (Note it will play in my Safari after Firefox has play -it "very strange to me" like Firefox will open some port, but it will not stay open if quit Safari re-booth-it) I have remove the .plist for Quicktime & Safari. And clean out the Cache for Safari. Also have re-set the Firewall setting to Enable Stealth Mode only. Re-load the site to GoDaddy. This is happening to both Mac's in my network and in all users accounts.
My Network is a A&TT with a 2Wire w/wrieless turn off. going into and Airport Extreme Base Station w/N generation network. One computer is connected with and ethernet cable to the Airport extreme base station the other is a wireless contection.
I do feel this and network issue and I can't seem to solve-it. How can I get Safari to open the port and download and play-it on my network?

We've only discover this yesterday. One of our listeners sent me an e-mail about-it. With a little more research this morning. I've discover that everybody I've had check-it is have the same problem only with Safari 4.0.5. So I'm starting to feel that this is an Apple Safari Bug in 4.0.5 for the Mac only. It seems to be OK everywhere else on other devices. I agree in most cases this is not a problem. But when have older people who do not download into iTunes around the world it is to them. We have 250 or more listeners a week. This is a Church podcast.
For right now we are planing to post a message on the site saying you will not be able to listen to the podcast in Safari, but can in Firefox and ect.

No CD, but you can download the installation files if you have the serial number, and the previous install has been deactivated

    or
Download Adobe CS5.5 Trials: Direct Links (no Assistant / Manager) | ProDesignTools
If you are unable to deactivate the earlier installation, you wil need  to phone customer support and ask them to reset your activations.

  • Mac Mini will not load after recent update.

My late 2012 model Mac Mini just had a software update and upon rebooting, my login name did not populate.  I rebooted again and now I get the gray screen with spinner and progress bar.  Once the progress bar loads I have just the spinner for a minute or so before it cuts off completely.  I use a wireless MAC keyboard and it will not load into safe mode when I try holding down SHIFT upon reboot.  Any suggestions?

  • Pictures will not load on one certain web site

The pictures on any page from <www.gizmag.com> will not load. It is the only site I have ever had a problem with.

Do you see the images in Tools > Page Info > Media (http://images.gizmag.com) ?
Make sure that you do not block third-party images.
Verify that the pref <b>permissions.default.image</b> is set to <i>true</i> on the <b>about:config</b> page.<br />
You can open about: pages via the location bar like you open a website.
You can use these steps to check if images are blocked:
    * Open the web page that has the images missing in a browser tab.
    * Click the website favicon ([[Site Identity Button]]) on the left end of the location bar.
    * Click the "More Information" button to open the "Page Info" window with the Security tab selected (also accessible via "Tools > Page Info").
    * Go to the <i>Media</i> tab of the "Tools > Page Info" window.
    * Select the first image link and scroll down through the list with the Down arrow key.
    * If an image in the list is grayed and there is a check-mark in the box "<i>Block Images from...</i>" then remove that mark to unblock the images from that domain.

  • Thumbnails on MySpace and Facebook will not load on Safari

I just got a MacBook Pro a couple of months ago and I love it! I am having a minor problem getting pictures (normally thumbnails) on websites like facebook and myspace will not load. When I am logged on to the wireless internet at school these thumbnails load fine, the problem occurs only when I am at home and try to access these websites. I am connected wirelessly to a 2Wire DSL router. Any help with this annoyance would be greatly appreciated!

Just did a forced reboot, seems to have fixed the problem.

  • Facebook will not load in Safari

    Hi!
I am using Mac OSX 10.6.8. That is as far as I can go on my 2006 MbPro.
This is happening to me now also. Firefox works fine. Every webpage in Safari loads - but not Facebook.
When I click on the bookmark, or type in the URL, FB will not load. The URL is in the bar but the page is blank.
The FB URL starts with 'https" - if that matters.
It has been working fine for years. Yesterday it did it.
I always hit 'reset safari' when I quit it. I have also cleared the cache from the drop down menu.
I went to System Preferences < Network < Advanced < Proxies. Nothing is checked. BUT this was in Bypass:
    *.local, 169.254/16
I wrote it down, deleted it, hit Ok < Apply.
I also went to Keychain and deleted anything with Facebook - including certificates. And that was probably a dumb move.
I have been using Social Fixer in both Safari and Firefox. I deleted all Social Fixer stuff in Safari.
    So I am stumped.
PS What if I downloaded and Reinstalled Safari? Would that do anything? What would happen to my bookmarks?

    This has been solved.

  • Web pages will not load through Safari on all my computers using my AT

I am using Safari 8.0.5 and OS 10.10.13.  The last couple days when using Safari through all my computers using my AT&T internet connection, web pages either will not load or they load very slowly.  Safari will indicate it cannot find the site.  If I run Safari, using all the same computers, through my Verizon MiFi Connection, it works fine.  U-Verse works fine.  Mail works fine through AT&T.  I am able to use Internet Explorer through my AT&T connection on a work lap top without difficulty.  I have deleted caches in Safari and deleted history in Safari.  I have contacted AT&T and they do not know what is the problem. When I check my download and upload speeds for the internet using Safari and the AT&T connection, they are slow.  When I do the same using the Verizon connection, they are fine.  Does anyone have any ideas?  Thank you.

You're not alone. I, too, was having the same problem today. I found your question and had seen that you had contacted AT&T with little success. I had gone to ufix.att.com and ran the self diagnosed test and system reset. My pages are loading a little faster now. Hope this helps.

  • Particular web page will not load in safari or firefox

when i try to load web site www.mapmyride.com, safari will not load the web page. I have tried other web sites and it works fine. It does not give any message to indicate that there's a problem. I can load the same web page on my iphone

Since both browsers can't load the page, do you have anti virus software installed? How about Little Snitch? And try turning off the Firewall in System Preferences - Security.
(I just tried in Safari 5.1.1. The page loaded as it should), so it's not the site.

  • Desktop will not load, stuck on blue screen -- please help!

As I can see, many other Mac users have encountered the same problem that I now have: the dreaded ‘blue screen of death’. About a week ago, any internet browser that I tried to open (Safari, Firefox) would freeze after loading its home page, and tell me that the application was not responding. After force quitting and restarting each program a couple of times, with no positive response, I decided to restart my computer to see if that would do the trick. Upon booting up, it then started the same sequence that it is still doing now: first a grey screen will briefly show, then a white screen with the apple logo and a turning dial beneath it, followed by a blue screen which will show a window that says “Starting Mac OS X” with a progress bar beneath it, which will fill to various points (sometimes only 1/8 of the way, while other times it fills completely), but it always leads me to the same screen – solid blue with a black arrow that will occasionally be replaced with a turning dial, only to go back to the arrow again. I am using a PowerBook G4 with the Tiger version of OS X. No applications were running whenever I first decided to restart my computer, and to my knowledge, all software and security patches were up to date and fully installed.
I’ve researched and tried every possible option that I’ve come across, listed below with the results they yielded (if any):
 Holding the Command/Option/P/R keys upon startup (screen stays blank, and the computer continues to ‘chime’ until I release the keys. I have allowed it to chime a couple of times before I stop holding the keys, but it always leads me back to the same blue screen)
 Holding the Shift key upon startup (leads me to a screen that has an icon of my hard drive and two arrows. Clicking the left arrow does nothing, the hard drive icon does not respond to being clicked, and the right arrow starts the loading process which again ends with the blue screen)
 With the first OS X Installation disc that came with my computer inserted into the disc drive, holding the C key (nothing happens; sequence as normal)
 With the first OS X Installation disc that came with my computer inserted into the disc drive, holding the Option key (same results as holding shift key with no disc)
 With the first OS X Installation disc that came with my computer inserted into the disc drive, holding Option/Command/Shift/Delete (a grey screen appears with the icon of a folder, a question mark briefly flashes before being replaced by the two-toned blue face Mac logo. After continuing to hold the keys with this folder and face on the screen, I get no response, so release the keys and the computer continues to enter the white screen-blue screen sequence)
 Holding the Command/Option/O/F keys upon startup (a white screen appears, and following advice I have seen on other forums a type ‘reset-nvram’, then return, then ‘reset-all’, then return. The computer reboots and the sequence continues as usual. I have also tried holding the Command/Option/P/R to reset the PRAM immediately after leaving the white Open Firmware screen, allow the chime to sound a couple of times as before, but still I get no results)
 While on the blue screen, pressing the Command/Shift/Q keys (alas, I am the only user on the computer, so I cannot try to remedy my problem by signing into another account. From the screen the appears, I can either shut down, restart, or put my computer to sleep, or enter my password which leads me back to the same blue screen again)
I apologize in advance if I’ve included a lot of extraneous information, but I just wanted to cover the options I’ve already explored so as not to waste your time if you had any of these in mind. I’m going to post this on a few different forums just to make sure I have all my bases covered, but anything you have to offer in the way of suggestions would be greatly appreciated. If you could post your advice in layman’s terms that would be even more helpful; I’ll probably need exact, step-by-step instructions if required to start my computer in ‘safe mode’ or anything else an average user would not be familiar with. I know this is a lot to ask, so I thank you in advance for taking the time to read through this and offer any solutions that you may have.

Hi amnicolekidman, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Although you don't specify your Mac, it sounds like you have real HW problems, likely the HD.
Tough without a Tiger Disk, but try fsck...
To use fsck, you must run it from the command line. Unlike using your mouse to open an application to do something, you'll need to type a text command at the prompt (#) to tell fsck what to do. The Terminal application (/Applications/Utilities) and single-user mode are two examples of command-line interfaces in which you can type such commands. To use fsck:
    1. Start up your computer in single-user mode to reach the command line. Hold CMD+s keys down at bootup.
Note: If necessary, perform a forced restart as described in the Emergency Troubleshooting Handbook that came with your computer. On desktop computers, you can do this by pressing the reset/interrupt button (if there is one) or holding down the power button for several seconds. On portable computers, simultaneously press the Command-Control-power keys. If your portable computer doesn't restart with this method, you may need to reset the Power Manager.
    2. At the command-line prompt, type /sbin/fsck -fy
    3. Press Return. fsck will go through five "phases" and then return information about your disk's use and fragmentation. Once it finishes, it'll display this message if no issue is found:
** The volume (nameofvolume) appears to be OK
If fsck found issues and has altered, repaired, or fixed anything, it will display this message:
*** FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED ***

Important: If this message appears, repeat the fsck command you typed in step 2 until fsck tells you that your volume appears to be OK (first-pass repairs may uncover additional issues, so this is a normal thing to do).
    4. When fsck reports that your volume is OK, type reboot at the prompt and then press Return.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), off the HD & use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, reboot once more.

  • MAC OS will not load 10.5.6

I am trying to install the new Safari Beta and I had to update my OS so I did that but getting an error message and it will not install.
I have searched the web and forums and have not come across my specific problem./
    Any help is appreciated.

I did software updates 3 times and nothing ...
    • Do you mean you applied the same update three times? If so, how?
    • Do you mean you used the *Software Update application* (which tells you about new updates automatically) or do you mean you went to http://support.apple.com/downloads/ & downloaded the 10.5.6 update manually, then ran it?
    • What does "nothing" mean?
I know it is a chore, but you must be very, very specific about what you have done. Remember, we aren't there with you & can't see which applications or procedures you have used. Without that, we can only give you general advice, which may be more confusing than helpful. For example:
The error usually means the update is corrupt, but what to do about it depends on how you got it. The typical solution if you got it through the Software Update application is to download & apply it manually because if SU thinks that update is already installed, it won't appear again in that app's choices.
You have two choices for a manual download, the Mac OS X 10.5.6 Combo Update & the smaller Mac OS X 10.5.6 Update, sometimes known as a "delta" because it will only update from one minor version of the OS to the next (like 10.5.5 to 10.5.6).
Combo updates are much larger than deltas but have the benefit of being able to be applied as many times as you want & since they include full versions of every OS file that has changed since the first release they can sometimes be a viable substitute for reinstalling an OS that has corrupted files. The downside is that if you are having some problem downloading clean versions of updaters, a combo's very large size makes it much harder to get a good copy.

  • Mac Mini will NOT Load

    Hello Happy Mac People.
I am currently having issues with my Mac Mini.
Currently, in it's Superdrive Slot rests a disc that was meant to install a Microsoft Keyboard and Mouse combo that was wireless.
I know what you are going to say. Microsoft equipment. Yes, I know.
Anyway. After it asked me to restart said Mini to install the software, I do so....to a grey screen. No apple logo, no spindle. No nothing.
So I turn to my trusty Mac Mini guidebook!
Method 1: Restart. Tried. Didn't work.
Method 2: Restart while pressing Option and Apple and P and R. Tried. Restarted the mac with the second chime. Didn't work.
Method 3: Restart while pressing Option. Tried. Gave me the Macintosh HD to choose. Mouse happy to regain control of facilities. Pressed button under HD logo. Mouse hisses at me for being frozen again. No go.
Method 4: Unplug power cord. Press power. Replug power cord. Fan within Mac Mini becomes angry and goes full tilt. Turn off Mac Mini. Turn on Mac Mini. Fan still having words of anger with me. Turn off Mac Mini, unplug, turn on Mac Mini. Fan has reconciled it's differences, but still receiving grey screen at every step.
Please help. Need Mac. Windows Bad.
    Lovingly,
    John Martin
    Mac Mini Intel Duo model.

Was the software for windows or OSX?
Software was for OSX. Was even in a .dmg
where you in Boot camp when this all occured, or are you trying to load the drivers for OSX?
    Drivers for OSX
Sounds like something really crapped out. Did you try booting into single user mode
Never heard of. Will try. Rebooted. Pressed Command and S. Nothing. Pressed option and S just to make sure. Nothing. Mac Mini has appearantly become box that is silver and white that just so happens to be labeled with the apple logo. Not happy that computer has just become paperweight.
Here's the KB article that tells you how (basically hold the S key down when it boots up.
If you succesfully get into single user mode try running fsck (/sbin/fsck -fy)
Also try running the disk utility from the install disc, and/or the Apple Hardware Test also on the install disc.
To start AHT, reboot the computer and hold the option key down and select The Apple Hardware Test.
Something may have hosed your system, if that is the case you may need to reinstall OSX, if that is the case (I cannot imagine it is) just do an archive and install. This will preserve your home folder and user settings so you shouldn't lose anything. This of course should be your last resort.
This would work, if the install disc were not still in. Tried restarting to click mouse button to release prisoner disc. Mac Mini would not agree to terms. Install disc misses it's family.
