Help - no audio on share to iTunes / export to disk

I havent used Garageband for a couple of years. I have just made a very simple 4 track, 16 second tune using only loops and FX.
I have dragged the purple triangle back to the end of my loops to ensure there is no blank trailer, saved the project and tried both export to disk and share to itunes. The resulting output seems to have no audio.
It plays fine in Garageband, but nothing when played outside from iTunes.
This must be a simple problem. I seem to recall having to set an IN and OUT marker but cant find evidence this is necessary.

Ah ha. Classic. iTunes was connected to my airtunes speakers which were of course turned off. That will do it every time.

Garageband Share - Won't export to disk, CD audio is too soft

When I attempt to share a GB project to file as MP3, it won't make a file. It goes through all the mixdown motions, but no file for MP3 or uncompressed. It will only make a M4A file type. Also, the mixdown file created or the CD burned from GB is very soft in volume. Any ideas. BTW, I've tried this on a new 20" Aluminum Mac and have the same issues! The project volume is good and will occasionally peg the meter so I should be loud enough within the project and it does sound good within the project. Only the exported audio is soft

Quicktime movie wont share with iTunes

When I try to share my movie with iTunes it appears in music as a .m4v but not in movies. Audio plays fine but there is no video.
I have tried creating the .m4v via the menu and short cut icon from QT. I have tried using import to library and drag and drop to get the file into iTunes.
The movie is a home recording. Edited in FCE and then exported as a QT movie.
I am running OSX 10.7.5, QT Player 10.1 and iTunes 11.0.4

I should have said that previously I have been able to import home movies into iTunes.
You used to be able to import AVI wrapped movies into iTunes also—but not any more. Basically, iTunes has become more and more a "funnel" for mobile files compressed specificly for mobile device (iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch) and TV playback. You used to able import almost any non-muxed format to iTunes that was compatible with your system's QT codec component configuration and it would play in the QT 7 based version of iTunes. Unfortunately, as part of the transition from QT 7 to QT X technologies, iTunes itself has been modified to limit what it will accept. For instance, I just ran a fiew quick tests and found that DV/DV (DV), DVCPRO/PCM (MOV), MJPEG/AAC (MJPG or MOV), and PNG/AAC (MOV) files no longer import to the latest version of iTunes under Mountain Lion. So, to say the least, Apple is continuing to refine what iTunes can and cannot import in terms of compression formats and file types. That is probably why they added and expected users to employ the "Share with iTunes" export option—i.e., to not only send files to iTunes indirectly but to also ensure that the file received is in the default H.264/AAC (M4V) compressed data format and file type that iTunes expects to play, sync, and/or stream to other devices and/or computers.
How would I do this?
As always, that depends on your specific fork flow and needs. If you are saving your edited FCE content to a QT (MOV) file in its current (but as yet unstated) compression format because you need it for some other application in that compression format, then simply open the file in an app like the QT 7 or QT X player and share/export the content to iTunes or a specific iTunes device-compatible (iPhone, iPod, TV, Podcast, iTunes, etc.) preset and import the new file to iTunes manually or import automatically. If the sole use of the file is iTunes, then you can export an iTunes compatible file directly from FCE.

Why doesn't my imovie project for ipod touch go to my computer's iTunes when i hit the option "share with iTunes"? I need iTunes to have the project so I can format it in a video converter. Can anyone help?

I downloaded Imovie to my Ipod touch (I don't have a Mac computer/laptop) so that I can edit a project for school video assignment. I have editted the video, but I can't figure out how to make it go to Itunes. I need it there so that I can put it into a video converter for projection to my class. The problem is, I don't know how to get Itunes to recognize that there is a project made. Imovie (at least the mobile version) has a "share with Itunes" feature, which I found. When I use this feature... nothing happens on the itunes end. Does anyone know why this is and have a solution?

[HELP] ichat can't share screen, can't video chat and can't audio chat

I'm a newbie in mac. I just bought my mac two days ago. Yesterday I realized that ichat was a very cool software. We could share screen, video chatting and even watch movies together with my friend. I'm using a google acoount and ichat 4. Today i can't start a video or audio or share screen with my friend anymore. Please do help me. Thank you very much. Here's the error log:

In System Preferences (Square icon with Cogs in the Dock) > Quicktime (An Option on the third line of icons) set the Streaming tab to 1.5Mbps in the drop down there.
Restart iChat to "See" this new speed.
In your routing device set it to allow it to Respond to Pings. (the default is normally to Block them - wording may vary)

HELP ! Audio won't load. itunes grabs (imports) cd track info only

re: an ipod mini on a winXP system. Used this mini just fine on a win2000 box. That box died, am now on an XP system. its an older computer (pentium I, 256 RAM)but is up to date with service pack 2 and all the critical updates. Installed itunes 7.
Now the mini won't work with itunes. Put cd in and itunes loads up the track info but wont take the audio part. ipod syncs up the playlist info as displayed in itunes with no audio. CD's add to the library as track info only without the audio. Had itunes v.4 on there before v7 and had the SAME PROBLEM so dont think its a version issue.
ANY SUGGESTIONS TO FIX THIS? HELP PLEASE - THANKS!

QuickTime export/share fails to export video in Lion OS

I have a 9 gb .mov file (that I created and exported from FCP 7). I can open this file in QT, it opens & plays fine. I am however not able to create a compressed m4v version of this file from QT. I need to do this to enable a download of this movie onto my iPad, iPhone and stream through Apple TV, It creates an m4v file with no video but just audio. This problem happens with both the Export & Share options. And NO, I am not using the "Audio only" option. This was a simple task through Snow Leapord and I have done that several times. Not sure what to do, I am not able to get any help form Apple Support (I have a valid support extended warrenty). Can someone please help?

Perhaps it would have been better if I'd left out the editorial comment.
I searched for 'audio', which I thought was a more technical term than 'sound'.
I read the indicated specs for QT above. The MPEG shortcoming is not laid out there clearly in any sense. MPG is not listed as an export format, so from that I would conclude QT can't export to MPEG1.
It is clear in the Apple article. For it to be 'clear' to anyone right away, it should be added in one sentence to the relevant help section of QT: 'QT will not export files with some codecs because of their proprietary neature.'
Or it should be in a pop-up message as soon as you try to export an mpg: 'Because mpeg is ownded by someone else, export will only render video'.
I believe I asked a valid question, and provided a specific account of my problem, so this post will be useful for future browsers.
Because VisualHub dealt easily with mpg, I thought QT must too. I was wrong.

Share to iTunes creates 3 identical files.

Using iMovie08 ,let's start with a project called xxx.rcproject. This project is not shared to MediaBrowser.
When you share it to iTunes 3 files are created in the following locations.
(As an example I share the xxx project to iTunes using the medium size and this is what I get).
1.- First file inside iMovie project with the name equal to the size you choose to export (medium.m4v)
2.- Second file in Movies/iMovieSharing/iTunes with the same name as the project file plus the size (xxx - medium.m4v))
3.- Third file in Music/iTunes/iTunesMusic/Movies with the same name as the previous (xxx - medium.m4v)
All of them (except for the name in the first file) are exactly the same size, format, etc..
After some testing I discover that when you share to iTunes, iMovie automatically shares to the MediaBrowser, so here's the explanation of the first file.
If you select in iMovie "remove from iTunes" then the second file is deleted, and the movie does not appear in iTunes, but the third file stored in the iTunes library is not deleted.
If you on the other side delete the movie from iTunes, then only the third file is physicaly deleted and the second remain in the system.
It seems that the file that iTunes uses is the third one located in its library. This is the file you get when you choose "show in finder" from within iTunes.
You can manually delete the second file, and iTunes keeps showing and playing the movie from his own library.
Why is this duplication of the files happening? We are talking about video files, so big amount of disk space is involved.

Since iTunes does not have the option to move to its library (the option is copy not move) is there from iMovie a way to avoid duplicating the file in the folder iMoviesharing, or do I have to delete it manualy?
Not from within iMovie '08 itself. As previously indicated, deselecting the iTunes Advanced Preference "Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library" is the only automatic way to prevent a file duplication between the shared folder and the iTunes library.
The same question goes for avoiding sharing to Media Browser.
None that I know of. In fact I have not gone through and checked this but I assume all of the "Share/Export" options that use the shared "H/264/AAC matrix selection window" will likely post a copy to the the named_Project "Movies" folder. Of course, you can simply modify the project following a "Share" action and it automatically deletes this file.
I know that there is some true in what you say but if I have to choose between having the movie prepared for exporting to another app, or saving disk space ( and we are talking about Mb eaters) I go for the second (I do not really need so often to use the movies that way, and, is it not possible anyway to just drop the file from itunes to GarageBand for example without using the media browser?)
Certainly. Actually, I do a lot of "drop-importing" and so use a somewhat different work flow:
1) I Use/re-use the same Projects and Events over and over. When finished with a project, I delete its content from the "Project" window but leave the named_Project in my list. I then close iMovie '08 and delete all contents from the associated "Events" folder used for that project at the finder level. Then, the next time I start a new project, I simply "drop-import" to the empty named_Event from within iMovie '08 and re-use on of the named_Projects which are pre-set for various specific uses. (E.g., 3:2 slideshow, HD widescreen, tutorial generation, etc.)
2) Unless "sharing" to my Gallery, I normally export projects using the "Export using QuickTime" option. This avoids the generation of a Media Browser file and allows me to add voice overs, enhance the audio, or add chapter markers in GarageBand before compressing my content for one or more specific target uses. I do normally leave the intermediate file used as the source for GarageBand available and simply delete the old one when re-using the GarageBand project file for my latest iMovie '08 project export. (I.e., I "replace" the old movie audio and video tracks with the new ones and delete the old intermediate file as soon as I close the GarageBand session having saved the new content under the old GarageBand project name.
3) Since the GarageBand projects are exported/compressed from the application directly to the hard drive, I have none of the file duplications to which you object up to this point. Normally at this time I archive a copy of my GarageBand output to an optical medium if it is important and then drop-import the file to iTunes, iWeb, iDisk, Family.com, etc. and delete the hard drive copy because the file is now located elsewhere if needed again. This work flow is probably not for everyone. It is not very "automatic" in terms of applications deleting the files, but it is methodical and seems to work for me.

Can I share an iTunes library on a Mac Server?

What I would like is to have one iTunes library on my home Mac that is accessible on my MBP, iPad, and iPhone.
I would like to be able to be away from home, on my iPhone, iPad or MBP connected to the internet, and open iTunes and it be the identical iTunes library that is on my Mac running Apple server software at home. Is this possible without third party software?
I know it's possible to share designated folders, but is it possible to share one iTunes library similar to how its possible to share one Contacts library on the server? So that its seamless and invisible.
in other words, does the Apple server software make it possible to use home sharing over the internet?
has anyone done this?

I have itunes match. its good but its not perfect. it downloads wrong versions of songs. for example it downloads the censored version of many of my songs. plus it doesnt do podcasts, movies, tvshows, books.
plus it doesnt show my smart playlists in the same track order as on my computer. its good but it has bugs and shortcomings.

All apps and purchases are linked to your apple ID, so you can't share them across 2 devices that are using different apple id's, it won't work. the purchases that are on your mac at the moment will only work with the apple id they were brought with.
the only thing thats possible to share is purchased music. you have to first covert it to mp3 within itunes, then your bf can import it into his own itunes library and sync with his phone.

If you haven't set up your own Apple ID already don't. I suggest you use the same apple ID as your wife's. The alternative is to do this http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1848. It's not efficient as you have to swap apple id's to update apps under both IDs. 20/20 being hindsight, I would have never created a 2nd apple ID for my wife.

What is the best way to share a iTunes library between 5 users on the same computer?
Currently I have a common itunes library in a shared folder that each user is linked to. The problem is that when one user adds music to the shared file, it does not automaticaly appear to other users when they open their iTunes. They have to go to the shared library and select the new music in order to make it visable in their iTunes.
Would iTunes file shareing fix this problem?

Sharepoints manages the samba configuration file. It's free software that puts a pretty face on an otherwise cumbersome config file.
Give it a shot.

As I stated. You will not get prompted on windows, if you have set up sharing in an insecure fashion. You are not using a secured sharing situation.

I want to share one library stores on my server and access it through various local computers. When I buy a song from a computer (non-server), I want it to be added to the library (stored on server). I want it to auto copy to my server, for organization. I want to be able to sync my phone from any computer.
Most of this I can do, if i figure out how to use one universal library for all my computers.
Any ideas how I can do this?

You can authorize your iTunes account on up to 5 computers at a time.
However, purchased music is downloaded to the first machine to download it, but these articles have more information on moving your music between authorized computers:
