Help -- No Devices appear in iTunes

I no longer have a "Devices" section listed on the left-hand side of iTunes. My ATV is version 2.1 and my computer is running Windows XP SP3. Everything was running fine until recently, about the time I upgraded to iTunes 8.0.0.35. On the ATV when I try to connect to my iTunes library I am given a 5 digit code, but there is no place for me to input the code in iTunes. The ATV is definitely connected to the network: I can see movie trailers on it, and from my pc I can successfully ping the ATV's IP address. I have already tried uninstalling and re-installing iTunes 8, and also doing a complete Factory Restore on the ATV, and still I see no Devices. As I said it was all working fine until recently and now I'm stumped. This is all getting pretty frustrating as I've already spent a fair amount of time trying to get it to work. I see others have had similar problems but there doesn't seem to be a single solution; for some the factory restore did the trick, but not for me. What else can I try? Is anyone from Apple listening -- is there something wrong with iTunes 8?

Thanks, I forgot to add: Under Edit->Preferences->Apple TV, I have "Look for Apple TVs" checked, but nothing appears in the "Apple TVs connected to iTunes" window. On the Sharing tab I have checked both "Look for shared libraries" and "Share my library on my local network". I'm not sure what to look for on the Devices tab, as I don't see anything related to ATV.
I see mentioned in the tech support sections something about making sure UDP port 5353 (Bonjour) is open on my firewall. I am looking into this now, but I know it had been working until recently with whatever settings my firewall currently has. Also I know that the Bonjour service is indeed running on my computer.

  • Unable to sync new iPhone 4s. I have iTunes version 10.6.1. Using Windows 7. My device appears on iTunes but I am not able to select the sync option and it does not automatically start the sync option when plugged in. Ive tried reseting the device.

    I am unable to sync my new iPhone 4s OR my iPod Touch 4 to iTunes.(this is the first time I am plugging them into iTunes) I have version 10.6.1. Both devices are up to date with the latest software version. Once I plug the device in, it is recognized on iTunes.The synce process does not start automatically. I am unable to select the sync option. I've tried reseting the device and restarting iTunes and the same problem happens. I have plugged in my husbands iPhone 3gs and the sync process starts automatically. I have also added my computer as an authorized computer for the new devices. What now?

    Many thanks.
    With those symptoms, I'd try the following document:

  • Why don't devices appear in iTunes after last update?

    I recently updated to the latest version of iTunes (10.7.0.21) and I don't see any of my devices in the sidebar even when plugged into the USB.  I tried performing a repair and still nothing.  My PC indicates device drivers installed when I first plug in but still nothng.  I can access the store, request help and authorize without a problem.

    I followed all the steps and it still not recognizes my iPad.
    I had to recover my iPhone to have it recognized by iTunes on Wi-Fi.
    Do I have to do the same with my iPad ??! It's a nonsense for me and a real waste of time !
    Things are going worst (since 2 or 3 years now) each time a new version of iOS and/or iTunes and/or OS X is released.
    Come on Apple... Wi-Fi syncing worked perfectly before iOS 8 and iTunes 11 or 12.

  • Songs not on my iOS device appear in iTunes

    I have no music synced to my iPhone or iPad, I just use iTunes Match. However, when I connect my iOS device to iTunes and select the "On this iPhone/iPad" tab, it shows a list of songs that are NOT on my phone. I don't download songs from iTunes match - I just stream it. In fact, the songs showing in this list have not been listening to in several months.
    I've already wiped my iOS device (I do this for every update and download the backup from iCloud) but these same songs still show up.
    Any ideas?

    Anyone?

  • Devices appear in itunes after loading then disappear after a few minutes. How do I rediscover my devices?

    My devices all disappear after a few minutes. How do I rediscover them?

    You may have a bad track pad sensor.
    http://blog.w3conversions.com/2006/04/faulty-trackpad-sensor-in-powerbook/
    Do NOT open the computer and detach the sensor. There’s no reason to. Here is the complete method for disabling the sensor:
    Move (do not delete) the following extensions to a different location (a new folder outside the extensions folder). You’ll find them in your system/extensions folder:
    * IOI2CControllerPMU.kext
    * IOI2CLM7x.kext
    * AppleLM7x.kext
    * Extensions.kextcache
    * Extensions.mkext
    Once moved, restart, and that little sensor will be disabled.

I connected it with sync USB cable and opened iTunes but "Devices" did not appear on the iTunes menu so I cannot even register the iPod in order to download music. I wish to re attach my device to my iTunes account but I do not appear to have the manage devices option - someone please help

    If you want to add it then you need to do one of the 3 things mentioned on that page e.g. use iTunes Match on your iPad, use automatic downloads on it, or redownload one of your past purchases. I think that the 'manage devices' section will only show when you have one or more devices/computers associated to your account, if you don't have any associated then it won't appear.

  • Does anyone know how to get the ATV1 to appear in device list in iTunes?

    I have been trying for hours to get my Apple TV to appear in the device list in iTunes. Every time iTunes updates I lose the connection, however, this time it will not reconnect. I have read through many of the questions/responses and tried almost all of them but nothing has worked. The Apple TV is connected to the network and can access the iTunes store without issue.
    I just purchased $300 in iTunes cards so that I could download my duaghters favorite shows and now I have no way of playing them on my TV. I have a PC running Windows Vista, if that matters.
    I would appreciate any help/advice that can be offered.

    go to the settings menu on the appletv
    unpair chain with the computer
    let it do it's unparing stuff
    repair with the computer
    type in the code on the computer
    let it sync as it see fit

  • How can I sync my photo contents in iPhoto on my iMac to my new iPAD's iPhoto?  I follwed all the instructions on manuals for both iPAD and iTunes re syncing, but I cannot find "phone button" under Device name on iTunes page. Please help!  Thanks!

    I follwed all the instructions on manuals for both iPAD and iTunes re syncing, but after physically connecting iPAD with iMac with USB or via WiFi I still cannot find "phone button" under Device name on iTunes page. Please help!  Thanks!
    I have been creating a photo book using a lots of photographs on iPhoto, and then I took another photos by using new iPAD which I want to integrate with the original album/book on iMac. I was able to import them from iPAD's iPhoto to iMac's iPhoto.  However I cannot import or transfer or sync anything from iMac's iPhoto to that of my iPAD.
    So my iPhoto page on iPAD contains only 3 or 4 newly created albums, and no other info.  That means no syncing....
    I am supposed to be able to work on this project on either of these iPAD and iMac, correct?
    I am puzzled.  I appreciate for your advice and help.
    Thank you!

    It doesn't appear under the iPad device on the left-hand sidebar of iTunes, you need to select the iPad device on the sidebar and then select the Photos tab on the right-hand side of iTunes e.g.
    And then on the right-hand side :

    Hi, My iOS device (Ipad mini) only appears in iTunes while cable-connected, but does not appear after diconnect the cable. How can I Wifi sync ?
    Documents say
    Whenever the computer and the iOS device are on the same network, the iOS device will appear in iTunes, and you can sync it....
    But I can't see my iPad Mini in iTunes.
    And my  Ipad  (Settings, General, iTunes Wifi Sinc)  shows  a message :" Sync will resume when xxx(my PC with iTunes) is available "...
    Both are in the same network,
      Ipad mini is is plugged in to power
    . iTunes is open on the computer
    what can i Do ???

    Hi Skydiver119,  and tks for four interest.
    I have done exactly as you say, but it does not work for me.
    You indicated  " Navigate to the info tab and scroll down. There'll be a check box for 'sync over wifi' or something to that effect. Check that box and sync to affirm your choice."
    I navigated to Summary tab (not Info Tab) and checked "Sync with this ipad over Wi-Fi"
    I disconnect the wire,
    and my iPad disappears from my iTunes screen.
    in my iPad ->Settings -> General -> iTunes Wi-Fi Sync -> says " Sync will resume when (my PC) is available.
    So, I can not sync via wi-fi
    I appreciate if you can help me.

    My iPhone 4 no longer appears in iTunes. But it does charge. Tried most tips please help someone!

    Hi there,
    No I didn't. Someone suggested in another thread that my iPod was registering as a disk instead of a device, so if I removed my iPod as a disk on Disk Utility then it would reload etc. and show up in iTunes. Which it didn't, and instead just cleared all my music (16,000 songs).
    So frustrating.
    Hope if you have the same problem you are able to find a better solution!
