HELP!! No Motion Menus!

I am using DVD Studio Pro 2 (version 2.0.5). After recently installing Tiger I have lost the ability to create motion menu's (or to even simulate them in my projects!). When I drag a template menu into the window area, it is displayed, but if the motion button is activated I get sound with no picture (black screen). I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the programme with no success. Any help would be most appreciated.

Ok - I've tried the above and nothing has changed unfortunately. I decided to run "Console" and opened DVD Studio and it came up with this message:
"/Applications/DVD Studio Pro.app/Contents/MacOS/DVD Studio Pro: The function CGContextSaveGState2 is obsolete and will be removed in a Tiger update. Unfortunately, this app, or a library it uses, is using this obsolete function, and is thereby contributing to an overall degradation of system performance. Use CGContextSaveGState instead.
RegisterProcess failed (error = -50)
Could not open communication with oxygene media server"
So there does seem to be a problem here - any advice on what to do with this information? Thanks.

  • Looking for some help regarding motion menus in encore from AE.

Need help making a motion menu from after effects. can figure out the import process into encore. I cant get the buttons i made in AE to work. Anyone?

Read this (but don't make your plan till you read the link at the end of the post):
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/encore/cs/using/WSF49EA5DB-3743-49c2-9831-F66328B192F8.html
    The important part is:
"The loop point is used to initially disable the buttons. Until the loop point is reached, the viewer cannot select or activate a button. The menu returns to this point on each repetition, so the buttons are disabled only when the menu is first displayed. For any subsequent repetitions, the Duration is shorter and the start point of all video content in the menu is offset."
So in AE,  you create a video (the motion background) that includes the image of the buttons as they fly in. Encore is adding the highlights. AE for a period of time could also create the button layers, but you will be less confused if you use Encore and Photoshop for the menu file itself.
I forgot to give you this help link, which is the Encore help file for working with AE:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/encore/cs/using/WSA5513911-0AD1-440c-BDAD-2E0E806B425E.html
This method starts with a menu in Encore, and creates an AE composition from there. It may only work with AE CS6 since you have EN CS6. I don't recall if this is  technically a form of dynamic link, which requires matching versions of the applications.
There are lots of ways to skin this cat.

  • DVD Capacity and Motion Menus HELP!!!

I am a newbie . . . . After 2 weeks or more of working on my iMovie and now iDVD, I am just about ready to burn my first dvd . . . my second attempt. My first attempt, after approximately 12 hours, left me with an error while burning . . . one or more of my buttons were out of the TV safe area. That was an easy fix. Since then, I've added a few things . . .primarily, 5 background photos with music (using the Passthrough theme). Before burning, I checked the project info and see that my "Motion Menus" is 126:11 of 15:00. I'm not sure what this means or how to fix it. I assume it's the added photos and music that I added, but find it hard to believe since it's just photos. Also the DVD Capacity is now at 8.7 GB of 4.2 GB. How did this happen and how do I fix that too? Thank You!!!

I figured it out. For those that want to know how to fix this issue with Motion Menus/DVD Capacity (overload). :)) Reduce the amount of time for each menu that contains motion using the slider. Slide to the right to reduce the amount of time, thus reducing your "Motion Menus" overload! which then reduces the DVD Capacity. Phew!! :))

  • Photoshop file error when rendering motion menus in Encore CS4

    Hello
I hope someone can help me please?
I've successfully (after 3 attempts) managed to import my PP project into Encore, created the menus etc from the presets that come with Encore (Wedding Garden menu).  When it comes to rendering the motion menus with the animated buttons option checked, after a couple of seconds it comes up with a Runtime C error - photoshop file (508) i think it is and it crashes.
It's a new system CS4, Windows 7 64bit, 2x2.40ghz quad core processor, 24gb ram, nvidfia 285 2gb graphics card - do you need to know anything else?
I've rendered the motion menus without ticking the animate buttons option on the 3 menus I have (it's a wedding dvd - main menu and 2 sub menus with animated thumbnails) and its worked.  This is ok as a workaround but I'd really like to be able to have the menu thumbnails animated.
    Many thanks
    Rachel

Thanks v much i'll certainly give that a try -
if it helps - I managed to make a note of the error message after I had sent my initial posting on this topic.

  • Motion menus - are there any other kind?

    Hello
I am creating a DVD of a memorial service and have chaptered all 15 elements of the service. When I try to burn the DVD, it says that I have too much content in my motion menus.
Question 1: Is there a menu/chapter screen available that DOESN'T require the motion, or that will allow more than 6 chapters per screen (so that I only have to have two instead of three)? I'd be more than happy to have a menu screen with no movement on it.
Question 2: If I can get rid of the motion screens, will it help reduce the size of the DVD at all? I am going to have to burn this on a double layer disc because it is three minutes too long... There isn't anything else to cut out, however.
All I need is a chapter menu that will allow people to go to the part of the service they want to watch... nothing fancy. I didn't even add any picture content in the chapter screens - just video in the main menu screen. (I'm using the western theme for the main menu and the Movie projector theme for the chapter menus).
    Thanks for your help!!

Keep in mind not all DVD Players will read DL Media (especially older set top players).
Stay w/in the TV Safe area (shown below). And yes you can have No motion. And it will help .... (see the check box in the hi-lighted area right above the slider)
What about something like this? Might this work for you?
    By sdmacuser at 2007-09-30
Changing a motion button to a still image
You can remove the motion effect on a button and make the button show a still image.
To remove the motion effect from a button:
Click the button to select it.
In the Movie pane that appears (shown above), click the checkbox to remove the checkmark.
To change the image on the button, drag the slider until you see the image you want.
Click somewhere else in the menu to close the Movie pane.

  • Motion menus/buttons blank out on burn

Trying to make motion menus or video background or buttons with video clip. After building/formatting and burning, the menus don't show up. The screen is white with sound only.
This doesn't seem to be a problem with still menus/backgrounds
    Am I missing something?

    John
In DVDSP Preferences, in the Menu options change the Final Rendering option from Hardware Based to Software BAsed, or vice versa. That means, change to the opposite you have now selected. Then rebuild your project and chek it.
It's a known pronlem that should be solved this way.
    Hope that helps !

  • Problem with Motion Menus

I'm using iDVD 6.0.4 and am having a problem with the menu system.
Everything is fine, and the project is about ready to burn, however whenever I go to add a still picture for the background of the two Chapters selection screens, the Motion Menus time jumps from 4:45/15:00 to over 15:00 by just adding one picture.
What is causing this, and how do I get it to stop!?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks...
    Mike

I had the same problem. Took ages to figure out the problem and the error message does not show up in the manual, though the 15 time limit for 4:3 is mentioned. Does this work better in iDVD08?

  • Rendering motion menus from DVD ST PRO

Urgent question regarding motion menus in DVD ST PRO,
I’m creating a DVD including lots of motion menus; on top of my background video I have a template using some overlay shapes from DVD ST PRO. When ”building” the project DVD ST PRO start to render the menus....
The motion video is some good MPEG2 footage from compressor, but is this rendering process during build, a second compression of the already compressed MPEG2 material ... a second compression using the compressor setting from DVD ST PRO preferences? In other words a compression of already compressed material?????
Can I get a better motion menu picture quality by adding my non compressed asset to the project and let DVD ST Pro render and encode the motions menus??? (Only one time)

    Jobbe:
    From the DVDSP User Manual:
    =====================================================
    About Menu Rendering
Depending on how you create your standard menus, they may have to be rendered
into an MPEG-2 video asset when you build your project. The menu must be
rendered if it uses any of the following:
    • Assets assigned to a button
    • Shapes
    • Drop zones
    • Text objects
    • SIF (MPEG-1 or MPEG-2), 1/2 D1, or cropped D1 video
Standard menus that only use a background (whether still or video), an overlay, and
one or more audio files do not get rendered.
Whether the menu gets rendered or not can be important for a couple of reasons:
    • The time it takes. Rendering menus is a process that composites all of the menu
elements, one frame at a time, and creates an MPEG-2 file out of these composited
frames. Depending on your system and the length of your menus, this can take a
significant amount of time to process. See “Menu Preferences” on page 115 for more
    information.
    • Extra processing can affect video. If your menu background video must be rendered,
the extra processing has the potential to change the video a small amount.
Anytime you decode compressed video, process it (such as by compositing shapes
or text over it), then recompress it, you can expect some subtle changes to the
background video. In those cases where you have meticulously encoded your
background video before assigning it to a menu, this extra processing could
    noticeably change the video.
When SD menus are rendered, they are encoded at 7 Mbps using the one-pass VBR
method. HD menus are rendered at 21 Mbps using the one-pass VBR method.
    =====================================================
Then in those cases you better use a non compressed video as background.
    Hope that helps !

  • Encore 2 MOTION MENUs not looping more than 2x

    Gidday Neil & techies:
I have created a wedding DVD. Burnt & both original Motion Menus looped forever. Did some alts, re-burnt DVD ... Now, one of the Motion Menus loops 1-2 times, then randomly plays one of the movies.
(Definitely set to 'loop forever'.) I have re-re-rendered the motion menus, etc. etc. Still no luck.
    Hmmmm...

Awesome. I checked out the other thread, and I didn't find the solution directly, but somewhere they mentioned "layers" and I realized how ignorant I was. The background layer was turned on by default, so I couldn't see the video that was playing behind it. I just toggled it off and presto! The menu works.
    Thanks again.

  • Help Customizing Motion Menu

    Hello:
I am trying to customize one of the motion menus that came with Encore CS2. Its called Television Menu.em   This is the first time I've tried customizing a motion menu. I've had no problems customizing the non-motion menus, even animating them in After Effects. The first problem here is that I need a widescreen version which of course isn't included. So I took the 4x3 menu and edited in Photoshop by creating an NTCS DV Widescreen 720 x 480 canvas, and then copying and pasting everything from the original .psd file into it. And then put in a nice background that blends with the color scheme. So haven't really changed anything from the original menu .psd file.  Saved that out, brought it into Encore, and connected it to the .wmv file that comes with this particular motion menu.  Rendered it out as a motion menu. Preview. Nothing!!!  No snow on the TV!  I haven't even gotten to the steps where I move all this into After Effects to animate stuff in and out, because I can't get the thing to work right in Encore even without doing any After Effects work.  Best I can tell, it must have something to do with the fact that I made the .psd part of the menu into widescreen and for some reason, it won't play the connected video file.  Sure would be nice if I could find this particular menu in widescreen, but since I can't, I just thought I'd make it myself.  Hmmm. I am stumped as to why I can't get past this seemingly simple step. Must be something I don't understand.
Any ideas or suggestions cheerfully accepted!
    Thanks,
    Dave

    Hi Addison,
Here is a sample which renames customers and search entries from crm menu:
      "menu-customers-manage":
          "title": "Site Members List",
          "parent": "menu-customers",
          "weight": 1
      "menu-customers-search":
          "title": "Site Member Search",
          "parent": "menu-customers",
          "weight": 10
You have to specify parent attribute for children menus which you rename.I hope it helps.

The first link is Encore CS5 help. It is a good beginning.  I'm not sure if the tutorial it links to is the same as my second link.  The AE help link below is also useful.
CS5 allows creation of buttons in AE, but for plain navigation options, I think it is just as easy to add in Encore or Photoshop.

  • Encore stops when rendering motion menus

I have a pretty consistent problem when rendering motion menus/project and I don't know how to fix it. Can anyone help?
I've just started to use Encore2, having switched from DVD Workshop 2.
I've got a wedding to author and I've used the useful 'Create Chapter Index' function that automatically creates sub menus. This has worked fine UNTIL I render the motion menus.
There are four menus: 1 x Main Menu, and 3 x Sub Menus.
If I render number 1 sub menu it's fine. It renders all 375 frames (why are there always 375 frames?).
The number 2 sub menu also renders properly.
When I get to number 3 sub menu, it always stops at frame 294 and Encore hangs! Why should this be?
I tried creating another project using the same mpeg file (4.12 GB) but with different menus and the same thing happens!
    Any ideas?
    John

    > why are there always 375 frames?
Assuming PAL (at 25fps) that would be a 15 second motion menu.
    > always stops at frame 294 and Encore hangs!
Just guessing: If you used motion thumbnails for chapters or timelines, there could be a "glitch" (corruption) 294 frames into the chapter or timeline the thumbnail video is made from.

  • Rendering Motion Menus in Encore - Photoshop File Error -1

I've looked everywhere for the answer to this.... I cannot render my motion menus in Encore.   I recently upgraded to OS Maverick (fresh install) on a brand new SSD drive.  I'm using CS5.5.
    Help!!!
(To go in more detail, I did a screencast below)

I did not watch the whole video.
Both (photoshop -1 and the mega-content ROM) are known issues with Mavericks. We are not getting enough feedback to know how well, or not, Encore is working on Mavericks.
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/5950080#5950080
    Photoshop -1 issue:
The workaround was not to left-click on the menu. Use right click, or other options and menu commands.

See post 12 and several following where we are looking for workarounds to the error.

For bluray projects, a large amount of BD-ROM is shown, and may slow startup.
A workaround is to add a small amount of ROM content.

  • IDVD 7.0.2 - motion menus too large, cannot burn disc

    Hi there,
Can someone help me out with this. I'm burning a dvd I made for christmas presents, and I need to figure this out before the weekend when I need to hand out the gifts ahh!
I finished the dvd, tried to burn it and get the error that reads basically, "motion menus are too large, adjust and try burning again". All menus have photos only - there are no videos in my menus, this is why I'm confused. Could this mean the songs are too big? - I've already reduced the songs to be 2 min for each menu. I really don't want to create the entire thing again, as I'm really close to deadline and the project is completed. Any ideas?
Could it be these: too many buttons in one menu?, videos in each menu are too large? one slideshow I have is 32 min. long, and has 5 songs spliced together for a 32 min. song.?
FYI it is a widescreen project, but may have been started as standard, i can't remember.
    Please help!
    thanks.

    Hi
    a. try to do a DiskImage and see if it works OK
    b. You could try to see what happens if You turn off animation/motion menu
Else it can be a problem needing to be trouble shooted and cured. See list.
*Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows:*
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
    • Hard disk is untidy: Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)
    • Delete iDVD pref file - *or rather start a new user/account* - log into this and re-try
    • Program miss-match: iDVD 5.0.2, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK - DON’T work under Leopard
    • Program miss-match: iDVD 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
    • Program miss-match: iDVD’08 v. 7.0.1, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
    • iDVD (08) v7 Locate theme folder. Move out iDVD1, iDVD 2 and eventually iDVD4 folders to desktop - re-try
    • Try a Cleaning CD/DVD that cleans the laser lens on the DVD burner/player
iDVD 6.0.4 and iDVD 7.0.1 are compatible with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard
iDVD pref file resides: Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences and is named:
    com.apple.iDVD.plist
While iDVD is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
    Now restart iDVD.
Last resort: from Craig: Solved the problem!! Finally!!
I deleted every iDVD application and folder from my boot drive,
emptied the trash and then installed iDVD 08 using the customize option
and I am up and running.

  • Encore 2.0 motion menus not previewing?

I have been having some trouble with motion menus...I got a copy of Encore 2.0 several years ago and it worked fine then. I recently had a need for it again so I re-installed it and started a project.
My problem is that even with the video transcoded, added to the menu, and the motion menus rendered, it doesn't show up in the preview. I can hear the audio, but it doesn't show the video. After tinkering with this for a little bit I went ahead and burned a disc, thinking that my problem was just a preview issue. The finished disc also doesn't work. You hear the audio and the buttons and timelines work fine, but no motion menus.
I found a discussion on here a while back about changing registry entries (for when Encore gets hung up on importing) and I had a similar issue. I tried that and it worked. I wondered if something similar may be causing the motion menus not to work.
I should mention that I tried re-installing Encore with no such luck.
    Any ideas?

Awesome. I checked out the other thread, and I didn't find the solution directly, but somewhere they mentioned "layers" and I realized how ignorant I was. The background layer was turned on by default, so I couldn't see the video that was playing behind it. I just toggled it off and presto! The menu works.

  • Encore CS4 crash on render motion menus

When I first installed Encore CS4 (Windows 64-bit computer), it crashed every time I rendered my motion menus. I found a thread on this forum from 2009 that discussed this issue, and installed the Roxio patch (or whatever it was called)--that was the recommended solution. After that, render motion menus worked fine so I thought the problem was fixed.
But over the past few weeks, it has started happening again--intermittently at first. But today, every time I go to render a motion menu--with different PSD and MPEG-2 files--it crashes every single time. I am beyond frustrated.
What should I do? Since Encore has rendered motion menus fine for the past few months for me, I'm doubting that it's the Roxio issue. I read somewhere that profiles can get corrupted and can be reset. But I have no idea how to do that. So before I start screwing around with stuff, I figured I would come here and see if anyone has any ideas for me.
    Thanks for your help.

    Here's what I might try.
Start new project (probably after restarting my machine for good measure).
Open a library menu with motion.
    Render. Does that work?
If so, I'd look a bit harder at the motion assets. Try an old project that worked, and bring those assets into a new project for motion.
I'd try reinstallng the roxio patch, if it fixed this before. (I don't think was what it was intended to fix, but I wouldn't argue.)
If none of that works, I'd consider a repair install. See number 1 here:
