If you put your iphone 5 in a bag of cat litter will it help more than rice after water damage? if so, what kind????

It doesn't matter as you didn't  let your phone sit in the bag of rice long enough.
You just may need to pony up and go to the Apple store and buy an out of warranty iphone 5.

MacBook Unibody A1342 no power after water damage to logic board
Ive sustained damage to my logic board after water damage. Can anyone tell me if it can be repaired or what the parts which have fallen off do(looks like 2 tiny capacitors?) . Magsafe has green light and battery charges but machine shows no other life signs. any help would be most appreciated thanks

    @CoccoBorg:
I need your help, please. I spilled wine on my mid 2009 unibody macbook pro, now when  I power up I see Hard drive light On, I hear fan noise, but don't hear any startup Apple chime and nothing on display, I cleaned the logic board with 91% alcohol, but that didn't change anything. Before cleaning the logicboard, their were no signs of wine on the logicboard, but there was a lot of wine on the keyboard black sheet.
    My guess is:
    1. The keyboard might be causing this behaiour, I wan't to bypass the keyboard, can you please confirm if these are the right power pads on logicboard?

    2. You mentioned something about fuses, where will I find them on logic board?

Yes, depending on the amount of damage.

my ipod touch (3gen.32gb) had water damage 3 days ago. now as it dried, i connected it to itunes and restored, but it keeps showing black screen with white circle every 3-5 seconds. could this be a software problem or is it all because of water?  i put it in recovery mode, and restored again, but it did not help, is there anything i could do to stop it ? thanks

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • MacBook original(2008) won't start after water damage

Hi guys, my macbook originial (2009) won't start because of I think water damage. I was on a plane and I found my backpack was wet be ause of my leaking water bottle. I immediately took out everything. My iPad,the MacBook and all the chargers and whatnot. The water touched the left side of the macbook (the USB side) including the MagSafe port. So I wiped it and left it to dry for about 36 hours. When I got to my house, I checked the iPad and it was ok and so was its charger. I tried to connect the MagSafe but it shows a dim light which means its not charging. So I decided to clean the connections and tried again but no luck.  I got once lucky by reconnecting multiple times till it started and it's fans were blowing like ****. Everything was normal then I saw the battery icon. It said batteries not available. Powered by power cord. Then I went out for a while and when I came back the macbook was switched off by my brother. So what can I do now?
Sorry but I live in Malaysia so there is no genius bar :(
    Any help will be appreciated!

  • Battery doesn't work in MacBook Air after water damage

    Hi all,
Loooong story related to problems I've had with access to certain pages using my home internet connection (turns out that's the ISP and they just didn't want to admit it).
ANYWAY, my water bottle top popped off, and poured water all over my MacBook Air 11" mid 2012. I've had it sitting for about a week - did the whole rice thing etc. I've not connected it to a power socket (scared something might happen), but I have connected it to my hyperjuice external battery. It turns on with this and works completely fine it appears, except for a little sluggishness on some keys and the trackpad. I'm hoping this will lessen as it dries out. However, as soon as I disconnect the external battery it dies. It will not turn on on its own even though the battery has 97% power.
Can I replace the battery? Do you think that will suffice? And does anyone know about how much it would cost to do this?
What's my best plan of action here? I'm a student, and I can't really afford a new laptop (& the 17" is too big and heavy to take to uni). So, in failing to fix this one, I'm not exactly sure what I'll do.
    Thanks

Your best bet is to suck it up and take it to Apple. It'll be costly but water damage is, unfortunately, the gift that keeps on giving. It really needs to be professionally repaired. Check with your renters (or your parents) home/renters insurance to see if the computer is covered.

  • Fingerprint ID dead after water damage

    is a fingerprint ID repairable?

Apple doesn't repair iPhones with water damage and there are no user-serviceable parts.  They may offer you an out-of-warranty replacement with a refurbished unit.
    Out-of-warranty* cost:
    iPhone 6 Plus: $329
    iPhone 6: $299
    iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5: $269
    iPhone 4s: $199
    iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G, Original iPhone: $149
Plus a $6.95 shipping fee. Fees are in USD and exclude local tax.
*Accidental damage isn’t covered under the Apple One Year Limited Warranty.

  • "not charging" after water damage

My macbook air was water damaged 2 weeks ago and now it functions well except the battery. It shows "not charging". It is still under warranty now. Does Apple charge to get is checked to see whether battery is the only problem? And how long will that take?

make Appt. with Apple for diagnostic / repair.
There is no cost for evaluation, but accidents / spills are not warranty coverage.
Your Mac is not "functioning well" at all if you cant charge it.  By trying to charge it you likely caused more damage.
Dont risk more damage and try to use or charge your macbook,  make call for service.

  • SONY XPERIA Z1S: AFTER WATER DAMAGE... (PLEASE HELP!)

HI, I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH MY SONY XPERIA Z1S AND IT'S THAT AFTER BEING SUBMERGED INTO A POOL, I'VE TRIED A LOT OF METHODS, SUCH AS THE BLOWER, THE RICE AND THE ONE THAT DID THE TRICK ONCE, 70% ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL, AND THEN EVERYTHING SEEMED OK WITH THE DEVICE AND THEN BOOM, THE RED LIGHT FLASHING AND THE 3 VIBRATIONS AGAIN. DAYS LATER, I BOUGHT A BOTTLE OF 99% ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL AND FINALLY DID THE TRICK FOR GOOD. NOW, THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE SCREEN WON'T TURN ON. I OPENED IT CAREFULLY AND SOMEHOW THE TOUCH IS RESPONSIVE SOMETIMES, BUT THE SCREEN STILL DOESN'T WANT TO TURN ON AT ALL, SHOULD I CHANGE THE LCD SCREEN OR WHAT?
PLEASE SOMEONE TELL ME, WHAT CAN I DO!?

  • Macbook pro is charging after water damage

So after I let everything dry out, my mac has been charging. Yet, the power button won't work. Good sign?

Some liquid has just spilled into your Mac. What should you do?
    Do
Immediately shut down the computer and unplug the power cord.
Remove the computer's battery (if you can)
Disconnect any peripherals (printers, iPods, scanners, cameras, etc.)
Lay the computer upside down on paper towels to get as much liquid as possible to drip out.
Note what was spilled on your Mac.
Bring the computer into an Apple store or AASP as soon as possible.
    Don't
Don't try to turn it back on. Liquids can help electrical current move about the components of your Mac in destructive ways.
Don't shake the computer (this will only spread the liquid around).
Don't use a hair dryer on it (even at a low setting a hair dryer will damage sensitive components).

  • Touch screen not responding after water damage

    Hello community.
I do get the fact that there is million of threads, but I want to know the opinion of others on this particular case.
I dropped my phone into the toilet (luckily, it was clear) and immediately got it out.
As I had no experience with these kind of accidents, I actually didn't turn off the phone. I used a towel and then I wobbled my phone to get rid of the water. Then, as the phone started rebooting itself, I dried it with a hairdryer (yes, I'm an idiot) and used a vacuum cleaner to help the proccess.
It kept saying this error [NAND] FileFlashAndMedia or something like that, so I turned it off for good and tried to restore it - I started getting the -1 error.
After several repetitions, iTunes finally started restoring my iPhone 5 and everything was back to normal. But then I came to the dreadful realization that the screen does not respond. Everything is ok - all the buttons, the display, even the sound seeems to be fine.
So after these 15 minutes of panicking I started to read articles and watch videos of other people. Put the phone in a bowl of rice, sealed it and I turn it on from times to times to find out if the screen started responding.
Any suggestions? Do you think there is a possibility to recover it?

This just happened to me!! Did it work? desperate to know if my phone will be salvageable!!
Your question has been answered in your other thread.  No need to bump threads that are over a year and a half old.  Odds are the OP is not monitoring this thread.

  • My iPhone 4 only partially works after water damage...

Basically, I dropped my iPhone 4 down the toilet (which was stupid of me in the first place) and got it out of the water as soon as possible. I let out as much excess water as humanly possible without the tools, as I didn't have any on me at that point, and so I let it dry out. It wasn't working at all the next day until I had taken the back off and now I have got it to the stage of turning on and partially working.
When plugged into a power socket it will turn on as usual and get to the screen telling me to plug it into iTunes, but when I plug it into the computer it will turn off and on at the silver Apple logo which means I can't connect it to iTunes. In both cases, as soon as I unplug it, it turns off straight away, but when plugged in it says that it has 100% battery.
I wasn't sure where the major problem was and so I sent it off to a company who fixed that sort of problem, but they told me that there was some corrosion on the inside and that they were unable to fix it which was a pain, and because Apple don't cover liquid damage I don't know what else to try... I bought a new battery just in case the battery had become flooded, but this made no difference so it's definitely not the battery directly.
Has anyone else had this problem and is there a good solution that might help? (And if possible I would like to keep what is on there, but this is not essential...)
    Thanks,
    Ben

IF you would have taken it to Apple, you could have gotten it replaced for US$199. Now that it's been opened by a 3rd party, they will most likely not permit this.  If there is corrosion on the inside, it's most likely permanently borked. Sell it for what you can get for parts and buy a new one.

  • What can I do to save my iPhone after water damage?

After very brief water exposure, my iPhone 5 has completely stopped working. It has shown the following screens so far: the apple screen with writing on the top, a bright blue screen, and (presently) a bright red screen. I need help reviving my iPhone. Help?

In rare cases, leaving it in a bag of rice can help. Most likely though you will need to take it to an apple retail store (www.apple.com/retail) and book a Genius Bar appointment. If you purchased AppleCare Plus for it, should only be $49 to replace it. However without that, it does fall outside of warranty and depending on the HD size of the phone it starts at $229 to replace it I believe.
