HELP! Nothing works right. cant install an OS

I need some help...
I bought this imac used a couple of months ago. It was running panther and that was fine. I ran the software update because it hadnt been run for a while. There were a lot of updates. the biggest one was the system update. When installing the system update i got an error message that it couldnt install the system update. I tried to install the new version of ilife and it wouldnt let me because i needed to install the system update.
Im very frustrated at this point...
I only have a CDRW drive in the imac and my tiger OS is on DVD. There inlayed a problem.
I got an external firewire DVD drive and attempted to install tiger on my imac via this external dvd drive.
The installation goes pretty smoothly until it gets close to the end. Then it gives me an error message saying "there as an error and cannot finish the installation".
This is where im at right now. An imac with no OS on it. When i turn it on i get a flashing folder with a question mark.
Please Help!
I dont know if ineed to replace the harddrive or if i can just wipe it clean and start over?
Maybe it's bad ram?
Maybe my logic board is bad?

Its hard to point you in the right direction here. You do not have a history of this machine, so you don't know if they were there all along , or if you caused them by doign the updates. Did you get any install disks with the imac? If so I would think you could restore the system and start over...you did not mention running the repair permisions before upgrading....to me that is a MUST. So I would wipe the drive and re-install the system software, and then rerun the repair permisions before and after running the updates. Good Luck.

Safari 5.1.2 Not working right after install

Hi, after installing the update for Snow Leopard safari is not working right. Some pages don't load, and other don't load correctly.
I have to keep hitting refresh two or three times. Also thunbnails are not displaying. Even the apple page comes up looking buggy.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. First, disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard, mouse, monitor, and Ethernet, if applicable. Boot in safe mode and log in as yourself. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
During startup, you will see "Safe Boot" on the login screen, which appears even if you normally log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Safe mode is slower than normal, and some things won’t work at all, perhaps including wireless networking on certain Macs. If you usually connect to the Internet via WiFi, and it doesn’t work in safe mode, connect using an Ethernet cable. If you can’t do that, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and perform a safe login, as follows: Enter your credentials at the login screen, then hold down the shift key and click the “Log in” button. Keep holding the key until the menu bar appears. In this mode, your login items, among other things, won’t load.
In safe mode, test again. Same problem(s) now?
After testing, reboot (if you booted in safe mode) or log out/log in (if you performed a safe login) as usual.

Please help!!! Cant install itunes 10 x64

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I cannot install itunes 10 x64. Keep getting error message saying bonjour services failed to start make sure you have sufficiant privelages. I have tried every fix i have seen including disabling my firewall and anti-virus, disabling bonjour service, uninstalling itunes and all traces of other programs. I just purchased an iPad and have yet to be able to sync content from my itunes library becuase i cant install it. I am losing my mind over this and would very much appreciate any help. Very irritating having brand new iPad and not being able to sync. Thank you

Hi, I haven't been able to use quicktime to view internet files for awhile. I'm not sure if the problem started when I upgraded to 7.0.4, but now when I try to view one of the previews from Apple's site (for example), I just get the whited-out screen and nothing works. Also, when I start quicktime it says "get connected to the internet...etc," and I am connected.
I doubt it's a firewall problem since I can see files using Windows Media Player.
Any ideas? Thanks for any help...

As far as I understand, we open a terminal window, type "telnet" and an IP address, and our username and password. We then close this window and can use Safari and any other browser.
Yes, proxy server does sound very familiar. But I went and re-signed in using terminal, and didn't see the words. Maybe I know it from someplace else? Is there anything I can check on Safari or Internet Settings other than what I've already done, which is open everything I can find and look for the words "firewall," "security," "settings," etc?
I still think the problem is that quicktime can't detect that the internet is hooked up, based on the error message I get (the "get connected to the internet" thing).

[HELP] [SERIOUS PROBLEM] i cant install roms on my neo v !!!

hi, recently i have installed some MIUI rom on my neo v, and was working perfect. but i wanted to go back to the stock roms, but i had a problem, and it was that it would take about 2 hours for every percent (using flashtool) !!! so i tried changing kernels, and the problem presisted, until i dont know how, i removed the kernel, and i couldn't install one again cuz it said that for doing so, i need to root my phone.
so basically, i have a phone without kernel and rom! can anyone help me fix it?

I have years of experience with several NLE systems, but Premier Elements 10 is kicking my tail.
Consider the simplest of projects where two gopro units are placed on a kayak, one pointed forward in the direction of travel, the second pointed backward (at the person rowing).
Each clip is about 15 minutes in duration, bot occur at the same time (overlap). i would simply like to select between to two views (forward vs reverse) for my cuts-only program.
So far i have encountered the following problems, design errors in Premiew Elements 10.
1. Unable to align botth AV tracks in time. I smacked the hull with the paddle (similar to a clapper board) to provide a simple way to align the fwd/rev views. Premeir will not allow me to shift (align) the AV tracks with less then 1-second accuracy. I even tried turning off "snap", but program refuses to permit frame-accurate shift between tracks.
2. Program will not allow me to switch between "Video 1" and "Video 2" tracks in preview window. Depending on the last clip dragged to the timeline, only one can be selected. How the $#@! can one determine the edit points if one cannot view the various tracks that are aligned in time??????????????
3 Using classing video editing terminology, my clips may be condiered video "bus 1" and video "bus 2". How does one select one or the other for output to the "output bus" ??        !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
   I HAVE WASTED AN ENTIRE AFTERNOON ON THIS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have observed several other glaring design errors in this program- but thats another post...

It seems to be commonly assumed on this board that PRE10 does not like 60p. I didn't know that, so I started using 60p source material from both a Panasonic and Sony camera a few months ago.   I have Windows 7 and PRE10 both installed as 64 bit on an i5 Toshiba laptop with no video card and 8 gigs of ram.
My project preset is AVCHD LITE 720p60 and please note that it is "natively supplied" as a choice. It does not produce a red render line when 1080p60 files are read into PRE10. If you use a 60i preset, a red render line is displayed.
At production time there are the usual choices for YouTube, DVDs and (often overlooked) the high definition "AVCHD disc" that plays HD on most Blu-Ray players. Although a little hidden, 1080p60 is a "natively supplied" choice. Go to Share>Computer>AVCHD and click Presets. Select "MP4 - H264 1920x1080p30" from the drop down menu. Push the Advanced button, go down to the Frame Rate button and select the Adobe supplied "59.94".   Save it as a preset for future projects.
Another indication that it is "natively supplied" is the time line itself. At full magnification there are 60 hash marks between each second. (Probably because I selected a 60p project preset.) If you watch the frame counter and click ahead one frame at a time, you can watch it go through 60 frames before a second rolls over.
The default bit rate (in my chosen PRE10 provided preset) is a little higher than the source clip bitrate. Consequently, if you use these settings on a single clip and render, the final MP4 file is a little larger than the original. But it sure plays nice on my laptop with Splash Lite or on my 55" HD TV with a WD TV Live Media Player. Please note, that the creation of a 1080p60 file for viewing has limited playback options. It certainly does not make sense for uploading to YouTube or as a workflow step in making a DVD.
1080p output is not for everybody. But, there are "purists" with newer 1080p TVs and camcorders that want to make video from their1080p clips that can be perceived to be equal to the source footage quality. In fact, I think almost everyone with a new camcorder gets 1080p! With all due respect to the long timers here, to suggest on an Adobe forum that Adobe's primary consumer NLE can't or won't do it is a disservice to Adobe.
I have also read in various places where people do have trouble with 1080p60 files. I can't test or prove it, but it seems to be important that it be PRE10, 64 bit and more than minimum memory for reasonable operation.
So, in summary, choosing a project preset that makes the work flow fairly smooth on a midgrade laptop and making one change to a Share preset you get 1080p60 output. To me that's pretty close to "native" even if it is not outlined in a step by step procedure in the instructions. It is still in there, so an Adobe programmer in India must have put it there.

Please HELP, nothing working! Secure Link to iTunes Store failed

I am going absolutely insane here, I cannot fix this problem. I have been searching Google for hours trying every single thing that people recommend, NONE of them are working. This is ridiculous, something has to work to fix this, please help, I'm getting increasingly frustrated with this issue. My internet works just fine, there is no connection issue that I am aware of. I tried all the things that Google search came up with, none have yet to solve this issue. Please someone HELP!!!

Here's my diagnostic test results in case this tells someone something useful. I did notice that it says iTunes is not enabled in Windows Firewall but this is false, I checked and it is in fact enabled, not sure why iTunes fails to realize that.

My tabs and links stopped working. It was fine one night, and the next day nothing worked right.

One night Firefox was working perfectly. The next day (I didn't make any changes) my tabs and links didn't work. What could be wrong?

Have you tried plugging the iPod into a different USB port or using a different USB cable to see if that makes a difference?

WRTG54G v6 Nothing works right

I have 2 issues with the router. The first is that IT will not allow me to enable wirless security. I am at the screen to select it but when I try and select it just goes back to the default of disabled. I also cannot set the wirless mac filter It will not allow me to enable it. I also cannot connect to the internet I am however daisy chained to my other router a BEFSW11S4. I have my homenetwork setup on static ips and I set the router to access my other one for the default gateway but still nothing. I dont have all night to comb the message boards if I cannot get a simple straight foward answer Ill just take it back.

this i what you can try...hardwire a PC to the WRT , access the wrt using http://192.168.1.1 ...password is admin...change the lan ip address from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.2 ....also disable the DHCP and save settings...go to the wireless section and change the cahnnel to 11 and any desired SSID...save settings ....then go to advanced wireless settings , here reduce the beacon interval to 50 and reduce the RTS and fragmentation threshold by 40 each...save settings...
make sure that you are using the latest firmware for this router....now hook up the wrt to the befw using the LAN ports , do not use the internet/WAN port of the WRT ....
