Help on adding "bookmark this page"

Hello,
I am a complete newbie at web design and am learning it bit by bit. I am creating a webpage with fireworks.
I added a html slice which gives me a "bookmark this page" link on my website. The background color underneath the text is white and i'd like to know how I can change this so it matches the color underneath the box or make it transparent. Hope this makes sense. I appreciate any  help and please keep answers very simple so that I will understand.
Thank you
(I have attached the code)

I hate to burst your bubble here, but you shouldn't be creating an all image web page... it's completely the wrong way to create a website.
You design the comp in FWs, then slice it up so that you can use various parts of the design as background images when you move over to a html editor like Dreamweaver.
Here's a great tutorial on how to take a Fireworks comp and create a web page using html and css
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweaver/articles/dw_fw_css_pt1.html
If you are a beginner, now is the best time to learn the basics of html and css before you go much further.  A page full of images is going to slow down the loading of the web page as well as not being spiderable by the search engines.
For example the 'bookmark this page' link, should be actual text not an image  :-)
As to your question, these may help:

  • I can not bookmark any page, nothing happens when I select bookmark this page. My old bookmarks are there and working, but cant add anything new. I have tried the suggestions in the troubleshooting section, and nothing there works. Please help.

I select "bookmarks", I select "bookmark this page" and nothing happens. Doesnt matter if I am in regular mode, or safe mode.

    Hi Mariah ~
It's Shaunn, the original poster. Thanks for your posting. I'm glad I'm not the only one that's having this problem.
Now that you mention it, I'm having the exact same problem on Facebook as well, when I play Family Feud.
I wish someone would investigate and post a solution to this problem. No-one from Playlist has responded, and no-one "Officially" from Firefox either.
So Mariah, I appreciate you and your post.
If you find anything out...from anywhere...would you please let me know. You can post it right here and I'll get an email from Firefox.
I'll do the same for you.
Enjoy your day and good luck.

  • What happened to "bookmark this page" selection in the "show your bookmarks" menu on the right?

    Now I have to:
    1) click again on the stupid blue star to get the menu to place my new bookmark where I choose to instead of have it go to unsorted bookmarks...
    OR
    2) bring up or have up the menu bar and click on the "bookmarks" menu choice of "bookmark this page" which brings up what I'd call the choice or sort menu that lets me access my bookmarks menu...
...where I wanted to go to create a bookmark AND I get to select "choose", which is what I used to do when adding ANY bookmark.
I want the "bookmark this page" selection back on the "show your bookmarks" list on the right...where it belongs. Why does everyone want to keep hiding the useful tools?
Firefox 29 stinks and I've had nothing but problems from the beginning...and since making the mistake of resetting.
I now have a folder of stuff that I have no clue what to do with as, upon resetting, I got "Oooops this is embarrassing, we're having a problem" or something. Any clues about what to do with all that "junk" (now, to me) might also be helpful.

I was used to being able to select the folder to place my bookmark without going into an edit session. This is as useless now as windows "libraries"

  • Neither "Bookmark this page" nor "Edit Bookmarks" appears in the Bookmarks dropdown menu. How do I restore it/them?

"Bookmark this page" disappeared from the Bookmarks dropdown menu after I added a bookmark. The help pages I have consulted say that "Bookmark this page" is sometimes replaced by "Edit bookmarks" but I have never seen this choice.

What do you see in the Bookmarks menu?
Does it make a difference of what is shown (it should) if you open the Bookmarks menu with the mouse or use the Alt+B shortcut?
You can try to reinstall Firefox in case something has gone wrong with an update.
Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.
*Download the full Firefox installer and save the file to the desktop<br>https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/
If possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
*Do NOT remove "personal data" when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords including data in profiles created by other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    *(32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
    *(64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure NOT to remove personal data when you uninstall Firefox as that will remove all Firefox profile folders and you lose your personal data.

  • The popup of the rightclick "Bookmark this page" is missing, where it gives you the shot list of folders.

When i'm on a page and I want to bookmark it I right-click and choose "Bookmark this page" and then the dialog box shows where you see 5 of your folders to where you can place the page.
This dialog box doesn't show up since upgrading to FF13

    Thanks for all your help.
It was an extension causing the conflict, "Compact Menu 2".
It's disabled and the dialog box is back. :)

  • Make "Bookmark This Page" Top Entry In Bookmarks Menu?

"Bookmark This Page" used to be the top entry in the Bookmarks menu but in Firefox 6 it has been moved further down. I've found that when I bookmark a page I don't really look at the menu and automatically click the first item, which is now "Show All Bookmarks". I therefore end up bringing up the bookmarks Library about five times per day, which is very annoying.
"Bookmark This Page" is by far the most commonly used entry in the bookmarks menu so I was wondering if there's any way to move it back to the top?
Thanks for any help you can offer.

    @bbgrbr, cor-el posted a solution here:
    https://support.mozilla.com/questions/862570
That gets "Bookmark This Page" to the top, but the disadvantage is "Show All Bookmarks" ends up at the very bottom of your bookmarks menu. I personally chose to hide it completely "Show All Bookmarks" since having it at the bottom got in the way.
Mozilla never should have moved "Bookmark This Page" in the first place, and if they did they should have provided an option so it could be repositioned back to the top. It's probably worth giving them feedback about this if you haven't already:
    http://input.mozilla.com/en-US/feedback
Hopefully if enough people complain they'll add an option to move "Bookmark This Page" back to the top.

  • Why can't I add bookmarks to Firefox 3.6.6? Nothing happens when I click "Bookmark This Page".

Why can't I add bookmarks to Firefox 3.6.6? Nothing happens when I click "Bookmark This Page".

Just for the record, I was having this problem with older versons of Firefox also. It just happened recently and, with the help of this forum (thanks cor-el) suggesting to open Firefox in safe mode and checking add ons, I found the problem. It was the recent update of Mcafee Site Advisor. If you have Mcafee Site Advisor as an add on, disable it and see if that helps. It worked for me.
    To disable this add on,
    Go to:
Tools/Add ons/Extensions and click: "disable" for this add on and restart Firefox. Hope it works for you too.
P.S. To uninstall Site Advisor altogether, you must do that through Windows Add/Remove Programs.

  • "Bookmark this Page" no longer asks where to file the bookmark

Since upgrading to 3.6.12 (OS-X) when I click on "Bookmark this page" it never asks where to place the bookmark. Instead the bookmark ends up at the bottom of "Bookmarks Menu" and I must move it with "Organize Bookmarks".
I must have changed something, but I'm darned if I can figure out what to do to fix it. Help please.

Yes. It was Mcafee Site Advisor 3.3 for me too. But, for the record, this was happening in earlier versions of Firefox also. But it was the recent update of Site Advisor that was preventing the Bookmark menu from opening. I disabled it and all is well.

  • When selecting "bookmark this page" the location select window right side and bottom are cut off, no visible buttons

After I select "bookmark this page" from the bookmarks menu, and then select "show all the bookmarks folders" with the pulldown arrow, the bookmarks folder list appears but the right side and the bottom are cut off so that no buttons are showing. Trying to resize the window does not work. Double clicking on the desired folder selects the folder name for editing, however, the caption at the top says "bookmark saved" and sometimes it is actually where I would like it to be added.

After finding that I did not have a chrome folder, or userchrome.css file, I installed ChromEdit Plus. Through this app I was able to create a chrome folder and the userchrome.css file using the information from finitarry. The problem still existed. I then edited userchrome.css changing the values to "min-width:800px !important; min-height:800px !important; " The results were; same problem, just bigger. This code changes the folderview pane in the add bookmarks window. The problem is the pane expands larger than the window. Let me see if I can clairify, When you select "bookmark this page" the add bookmark "window" opens. to open the folderview pane, click on the down arrow to the right of the folder pulldown menu. The window is not expanding to contain the pane correctly and pushes all the other controls off the screen.

  • On my mac it doesn't let me bookmark some sites when i drag the icon over or click on bookmark this page. Is there a fix for this?

When i drag a URL over to my bookmarks or click on bookmark this page (on a Mac BTW) it doesn't let me do it. Not even with the star. Like when i try to bookmark some cell phone forums and gamefaq boards it says "website did not supply identity information" and it doesn't even let me bookmark that page unless i go to a different part of the site. Is there any type of fix for this???

    Hi punisherbv,
Are you using the beta? it's not fully secure, so try using Firefox 3 instead. If you are already using Firefox 3, it seems like what Firefox is saying is correct- the site is not supplying identity information. So what you could do is go to that exact site, then click on the little golden lock at the very corner of the page. Then, enter the 'permissions' tab and allow everything. Exit, and then try bookmarking the page!

  • How do I change back to having "bookmark this page" on the top of the list and subordinate "all bookmarks" lower since I use former 100 times more than the later on a daily basis?

I create about 25 -50 new bookmarks daily for my business. So, it would seem user friendly to put that command at the top of the scroll down list. Maybe I am unique and others want to "show all bookmarks" repeatedly. I can't understand why one would need to do that more often than add multiple bookmarks on a daily basis. i look forward to your response,. Respectfully MC

cor-el, as you said, that solution puts the "show all bookmarks" all the way at the bottom. How do you either make "bookmark this page" first without changing the order of the other options or force "show all bookmarks" to be second instead of last, the way the menu was before?

  • On the menu bar I click on bookmarks and "bookmark this page" is the second thing from the top. How do I make it the first thing on top? That's how it was before I updated to 6.0

I have Windows Vista. This problem started with 6.0 update. "Bookmark this page" was on top, now it is second from the top. Annoying because I am so used to clicking "bookmark this page" as the top option.

  • Bookmark This Page has disappeared only on gmail sign-in. Why? How to restore?

I am using a shared network computer but always use my own computer and always sign out after checking emails."Bookmark this page" option was there yesterday. Today, in its place is "edit bookmarks". If I go to any other website I can bookmark the page but cannot bookmark gmail sign in although i was able to until today. In addition, a previous bookmark for gmail sign in page just disappeared. No other bookmarks disappeared. Is this just a fluke or is someone messing with my computer?

Maybe you already have bookmarked this page.
In the current Firefox release the "Bookmark This Page" menu entry in the Bookmarks menu changes to "Edit This Bookmark" once you have bookmarked the page and the star on the Navigation Toolbar is blue highlighted.<br />
So do not get confused by the missing "Bookmark This Page" in the Bookmarks menu and seeing "Edit This Bookmark" instead.
Firefox 29 and later versions have the Australis interface that looks different than the user interface in Firefox 28 and older versions.
*With the Australis interface the orange Firefox menu button has been replaced by the three bar Firefox Menu button at the far right end of the Navigation Toolbar<br>A consequence of this new menu button is that you no longer can hide the Navigation Toolbar
*There is a star like button to the right end of the search bar on the Navigation Toolbar to bookmark the current web page and a "Show your bookmarks" button next to it to open the Bookmarks in a drop down menu.<br>You can find "Show All Bookmarks" to open the Bookmarks Manager (Library) at the bottom of this drop-down list
*It is still possible to have the menu bar visible via the right-click context menu on the toolbars to have menus like the Bookmarks menu

  • Bookmark this page opens a different dropdown that does not save - why?

I've just reinstalled Win-XP Pro after a serious crash and had to reinstall Firefox as well. I have just installed the latest version upgrade and now absolutely nothing happens when I select "Bookmark this page" from the Bookmarks dropdown menu.

  • When will the "Bookmark this page" selection be returning to the bookmark drop down? No, seriously! We want it back!

The removal of the "Bookmark this page" selection was a huge mistake. None of the answers really solve the issue. Click the star and then click it again so you can edit the bookmark then move it to the folder you want, or install this add-on to manage your bookmarks. The real fix for this issue is simply to put the selection back. People want simple and when they have something that works well they don't want it to change just because the programmer wanted to do it differently. So when will this functionality be returning?

    * If you click the ★ Star Icon once, the bookmark ends up in the Unsorted Bookmarks folder.
    * If you double-click the ★ Star Icon, you get to pick where to place the bookmark.
    * If you right-click (or Ctrl+click on a Mac) an empty area of the web page and choose Bookmark This Page, the bookmark ends up in the Bookmarks Menu folder and you get to pick where to place it.
    * If you press Ctrl+D (Mac: Command+D), the bookmark ends up in the Bookmarks Menu folder and you get to pick where to place it.
    * You can click and drag the site icon (usually a globe or a padlock) on the left side of the address bar onto either the Bookmarks Toolbar, the Bookmarks Sidebar (Ctrl+B; Mac: Command+B), or the Library (Ctrl+Shift+B; Mac: Command+Shift+B; Linux: Ctrl+Shift+O).
The following add-on makes bookmarking easier in various ways. Among other things, it's able to remember the last used folder.
    * https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/add-bookmark-here-2/
I see no reason to believe menu items that were deemed clutter will be reintroduced — especially when there are multiple ways to perform the action in question.
