I just got this new windows 8 laptop and when i try to add my HP Officejet 4500 G510n-z printer wireless, and it wont work,
like its say cant find printer

That's called extended desktop mode. You can think of it as an extension of your main screen probably off to the right. Drag an app off the screen to the right and it will appear on the second monitor. You can see and adjust placement of the second monitor in System Preferences > Displays > arrangement tab. Drag the second screen around for your optimum placement. Also the little bar can be moved to either screen and that determines which screen will contain the dock/menubar.
Also you can toggle between Mirror and extend desktop mode by pressing CMD F1.

Need help with connecting laptop

Hi there,
I looked through the boards and found some messages that kind of fit to my problem, but not completely so here goes.
I have a gateway desktop(windows xp) connected to dsl (charter) and a laptop(gateway solo with windows xp) that I am trying to connect through a wireless router (Linksys wrt54g).
When I connect the wireless router to my laptop it says it is connected, but I cannot get a webpage to appear and once my router is connected I cannot use my desktop online.
I am sure there is just some configurations that need done, but I'm not that familiar with alot of the comuter lingo in order to figure this one out on my own. I mainly use the desktop, but I would like to configure the laptop so I can use it online when needed. Help and keep it simple please...
Another question...do I need to use the wireless router or can I somehow connect my laptop through my desktop or just through my dsl connection?

Connect the Modem to the Internet Port on the Router.
Then , Connect the Computer using a different
Ethernet Cable to Port 1 or Port 2 on the Router.
Now, Press the Reset Button on the rear panel of the Router
for 12 Seconds. Then, Release the Reset Button,
Unplug the Power Adapter to the Router. After 10 Seconds,
Unplug the Power Adapter to the Modem. Then Wait for
30 Seconds, Re-connect the Modem, and once the Lights are
up on the Modem, Re-connect the Linksys Router.
If yes, Open a new Internet Explorer
Page, and in the address bar, type http://192.168.1.1, press
return, And when asked for Username and Password,
Leave the Username blank and in the Password field,
type admin . This will help you access the Router's
Console.
In the Router's Setup Page, just below Setup Tab,
in the blue line, you could an option " MAC Address Clone "
Click on that, Enable it, Save the Settings
Below the Setup Tab of the Router's Console,
Change the MTU from "AUTO" to "MANUAL" , and
Set the Size to 1400, Save the Settings,
Powercycle the Modem and the Router.
Check the Connections.
If you are able to go Online when hard wired to the Router.
Then make your computer wireless and verify . . .

Help Connecting my laptop to my 5.1 surround sound with optical Ca

I have recently bought a new hp 9667ea Laptop which has a express card slot. So also decided to buy the creative blaster x-fi xtreme audio note book sound card. I?want to connect my laptop to my surround sound using a optical cable.
So after days of messing about I cound get the sound to come out the card using the headphones supplied but not through my optical cable also when rebooting my laptop with the sound card in it would freeze my laptop and was unable to get a internet connection.
I since found out this card only supports 2. throught the optical cable.
Now what I am after is a card that supports 5. and I am able to connect to my surround sound using a optical cable?
I know creative are bring one out that support 7. will this also be compatible with my 5..
Any help would be appreciated.

I connect mine via XBox 360 using a program called uShare https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/UShare and it works brilliantly. However, I don't suppose you have an XBox or PS3, so you do actually have an option which is a VGA to HDMI converter. It's fairly reasonable price, £57.80, I suppose if it works okay. You could always buy one and if it doesn't do what you want just send it back and get a refund.

My phone switched of while charging was boiling hot aswell and wont turn back on or connect to laptop, help ..

My iphone 3gs switched of while i had it on charge i didn realise untill i went too use my phone and it was boiling hot when i picked it up, it will not switch back on, charge or connect to laptop or dcu mode .. any ideas on what to do with it other then back to belfast .. all tips welcome ...

Unplug it, let it cool down and try to reset it by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.

Just updated KIES and can no longer connect my laptop and S4?

I've been using KIES for a year. Was just prompted to update it. Did so (to version 2.6.0.13091.9) and now I can no longer connect my laptop and Galaxy S4.
I'm getting the following message which is, of course, nearly worthless:
     Reconnect the device in Samsung Kies (PC Studio) mode.
     Current connection mode not supported by Kies.
     Check the USB settings.
     (Settings -> Applications -> Development -> USB debugging (x))
1) "PC Studio" has no actual meaning; after searching online I found what they're trying to tell me is the phone must be in MTP mode rather than USB debugging mode.
2) The Settings path above is wrong; I DID manage to find the proper path to turn off debugging & switch to MTP, but that doesn't help.
3) uninstalled & reinstalled KIES; no help
Any ideas?
I know 1000's of other people are having this problem, so I'm a bit surprised VZ doesn't have a ready answer here.

I'm plugging in with the 15 pin type connector that has finger screws each side of it,(can't remember what it is called) with a separate usual plug into the earphone socket of the laptop and at the other end, into the audio output of the TV. I have been doing this for some time, with Netfix,and other programs,and never encoutered a problem till I tried Playing a film off I tunes.

When I connect my laptop to my television, my tv displays the laptop screen and sound, but not video. These are the steps I followed:
I connected my laptop to tv with hdmi cord.
Using tv 'source', I choose appropriate hdmi setting.
I chose second screen only option on my laptop.
My laptop 'desk top' was displayed on the tv screen. (Good!)
I opened 'Netflix', and it was also displayed on tv screen. (Stll good!)
I clicked on a movie to watch...suddenly the tv screen is black, but the tv does have sound. (NOT good!)
Do I have to change a video setting on my laptop? I don't know how to do this.

I have read your post on how your TV is able to produce sound, but no visuals appear while connected to your notebook computer. Are you using an HDMI or DVI cable to connect your TV to the computer? Are you able to play a movie from Windows Media Player (with both sound and video)? I would be happy to help you, but first I would encourage you to post your product number for your computer. Below is a is an HP Support document that will demonstrate how to find your computer's product number. In addition, it will also help if you indicate which operating system you are using; and whether your operating system is 32 or 64 bit. The more information you can provide, the better!

Which Windows operating system am I running?
Is the Windows Version on My Computer 32-bit or 64-bit?

Connecting my laptop

I am trying to connect my laptop to my new Insignia tv. I lost the instructions. I connected to two cords that came with it. I just need to know what channel to put my tv on to get the signal to show up on screen. We are running our cable through the dvd player. Does it need to be on or off? I'd appreciate any help ASAP. I'm getting the lcd Dynex 42 inch . It didnt specify what the imput for pc was but i call cus service and guy said he had same tv hooked up to pc using vga cable. Said only newer laptops have hdmi out. Mine seems to have just that 15 pin vga plug, will that make picture look like crap?

i'm confused. So with dynex to use as monitor (and with cable tv) do i have 2 options in connecting to pcs with no hdmi or dvi output plugs ? Are you saying the vga cnnect is not a good option ? theres nt much i can do about what outputs are on existing laptop and pc and i cant afford higher end brands of tvs. ive pretty much decided to get the lcd 42 inch dynex after loking over all ads and reviews. The 650.00 price is max i can come up with.

Connecting XP laptop wirelessly to AEBS

Hi,
I'm having trouble connecting my laptop running Windows XP to an AEBS that connects well to my iMac desktop (via ethernet cable) and my Powerbook laptop (wirelessly).
I've been able to get a signal with full strength using WPA2 Personal from the AEBS, and using WPA-PSK and TKIP on my XP machine, but still can't connect to the internet.
I tried following the directions on iFelix, and switching over to WEP but was still not successful.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

See if it is an encryption issue, turn off all encryption temporarily and see if you can now connect.
This will determine if it is an encryption issue or something else.
Does the XP laptop get a valid IP address or is it a self-assigned address as in 169.x.x.x or similar?

It's all about setting up what ever version of windows you have running on your pc to share the printer. If you still get stuck post in a windows forum for help.

Wirelessly connecting Windows laptops to an iMac G5 to share files Interne

I am wondering if someone could tell me how I can share files with windows PCs wirelessly but also securely. I have setup a network so that Windows PCs can access my iMac G5 that connects to the Internet through the airport card. I can get the windows PCs (laptops) to access the Internet through my iMac G5's airport card but I also want to share files back and forth wirelessly between the Windows PC laptops and the iMac G5. I am able to view all my iMac G5 files on my Windows PCs but that's not what I want. Isn't there a way to make it more secure so that only a shared folder is available for access by the Windows PCs? Right now if I go into Windows and setup a "My Network Places" then the PC has access to all those files on my iMac and that's not what I want. At this point someone with access to my iMac G5 could just wipe out everything. Not secure at all.

I am still having problems with this. I can get my laptop to share my internet connection with my mac, but once I set a password on my Mac--well I can't get my laptop to connect. It is quite strange.

I tried to follow the directions on the link he suggested, but I'm using OS 10.3.9, so maybe that is the reason the directions are not exactly the same for my system.
Right now, I can open the System Preferences, go to Sharing preferences, turn on windows sharing...but that's as far as I can get.

After working on this problem for awhile, I've found some helpful information on the web that refers to connecting a Vista computer to a MAC with OS 10.5. Even though this is the case, I got my iMac to share it's internet connection and now I'm able to access the Windows vista laptop files on my iMac.
