This explains how you can add an area page, for a custom WebDynpro application changing SPRO settings.
The pdf does not explain how a server is added for the resources you use.
If it's defined in your system, then you can skip the step :
Server is added under
Resources->Define Server for Resources
Protocol : http
Name and port : <server>:port
Directory path : sap/bc/bsp/sap/public/hcm/XSS
Cross check the path with SICF.
Even when you add a picture of your choice in MIME repository, make sure you follow the same path, viz: sap/bc/bsp/sap/public/hcm/XSS

Help with S_SERVICES configuration for ESS WebDynpro

In the authorization instructions for ESS MyERP2004, it is stated to add required services to the S_SERVICES. Many of the application components in the content administrator have a path longer than the field length to add these services.
Here is the example:
The service names must follow the naming convention <vendor>/<dc>/<Application>. Example: sap.com/ess~us/Per_Address_US
Has anyone completed this? I would appreciate some tips in completing this task successfully.

Customize icons for ESS/MSS

Hello,
I need to customize the layout of the ESS/MSS web Dynpros and exchange the icons. What is the best way to do so? Basically I don't want to just replace the icons located in the PUBLIC/BC/Icons folder but tell the Web Dynpro to look in an custom folder. Is there a way to do so?

Hi Dominik,
I think its possible, but not sure. Just try here like
1. Go to transaction SE80 and navigate to the MIME Repository
2. Create a folder in the MIME repository that will contain all the custom icons. Make sure the folder is created in correct directory ( generally for themes this is the directory path . /SAP/PUBLIC/BC/UR/<theme_name>.. so just check for images also
3. Go to the Repository browser in SE80 and select u201CProgramsu201D from the drop down list.
4. Enter BSP_UPDATE_MIMEREPOS in the input field and hit Enter
5. Execute the program and enter the MIME repository path to the folder that is to contain the custom icons.
Once you upload the icons in mime repository, you can access that icons like standard. I think

Help to evaluation path for ESS

Hi
I have to make a report/list in the portal, where an employee can see i.e. the birthday of all the colleagues directly under the employees manager.
Is there a standard evaluation path for this ? Or can someone point me in the right direction (and remember I am new to evaluation paths)

Build error while NWDI ESS Project creation for ESS Customization

Hi
We are using SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio Version: 7.0.11 and trying to create a project in NWDI for ESS (ESS 6.0) customization.
When we create project from the Inactive DC (essgbpdatahttp://com.sap), it is giving several build errors.
We have tried Sync Sources many times, checked and verified the Java Build Path as well.
The 1st error in the Tasks tab is
The project was not built since its classpath is incomplete. Cannot find the class file for com.sap.aii.proxy.framework.core.AbstractType. Fix the classpath then try rebuilding this project.
Then there are several other errors like
Application Per_Personal_GB: Component is missing.
Application Per_Personal_GB: Start up plug is missing.
Seems some dependent files/ DCs are missing but we are not sure which ones.
Could you please help?

I could not find any gen_wdp folder in Navigator tab and also there are jar files but none of them have warnings.
Is there any thing else which is creating problem.
I exactly followed the steps mentioned in the thread ESS/MSS Customization Make it Simple
But standard SAP ESS package itself is giving lot of error.

FPMComponent required for Help Service to work in ESS?

Hi,
This question may sound stupid but I need to confirm.
Is the FPMComponent required to be used for Help Service to work?
I have configured help services. On some ESS pages it is being displayed. But it is not showing in some cases. I observed that the FPMComponent was not being used when it is not displayed. So kind of figured this out.
Please let me know if I am right.

Creating NWDI track for ESS/MSS

Hi,
I am trying to implement ESS/MSS (600 SP7). For customization I need to import the package on the track in CMS. Import of JEE, JTECHS, BUILDT and PCUIG were successful. When i tried importing ESS and MSS, import is failing. Check-In of both the components are successful but while importing the component under Development tab, its failing. Import of MSS in DTR is successful but CMS is failing.

Customised Error Message for ESS-MSS Applications

Hello All,
Currently, if there are any errors in the ESS/MSS transactions, we get the 503 error with lot of irrelevant data to the users. We have a basic html page which says, "There is a issue-Please contact XXXX".
Is there a way to replace the standard error message with this html page ?
PS: I am not talkign about the "Dispatcher Running" or "Application Stopped" messages, Please do not point me again to SAP Help website which doesn't answer my query. THIS IS ABOUT REPLACING THE STANDARD ERROR MESSAGES FOR ESS/MSS APPLICATIONS.
Any help is much appreciated.

Let me clarify the difference between ESS and MSS errors and JAVA stack errors
A "503 Service not available" is not an ESS or MSS error - this is the thrown by the stack (possibly while navigating
in ESS or MSS)
The only information I have available in the case of java stack errors is to follow

Whcih indicates how to customize stack errors like 404 or 500
Lastly you can also decide to hide the stack trace as per KBA 1596212
To modify an ESS or MSS message this may require modification to front and back-end HCM application - usually
ESS gets error information based on back-end errors example "fill in all required fields"

is there any possibility to show IBO_WDA_INBOX work items in ESS. i have a requirement to show Work Items in my ess menu. I added this WebDyn app and its configuration in my ess menu but when i click on items for approval it returns following error:

You are, i was trying to avoid creating a new menu tab (like Manger Self-service) and combine ESS and MSS menu, but after a lot of challenge i found POWL INBOX is not gonna work in ess other than i add MSS role to my user which consequently added MSS menu.
At the end i created a new Z copy of MSS and just like what you said customize it for my requirement. It seems like without MSS menu we can not run such application with OBN authorization of MSS. This is not what i claim for testing purpose i added MSS role to my user and just hide it from NWBC but again in ESS menu i was able to access inbox but when i click on HCM links i received same error message.
Case closed by creating a cutome role in PFCG with MSS access.

Hi Krishna,
For ESS in Backend you need to rember two things.
i) Home Page Customization where you need to create Resources, Areas, Subarea, Services, Area Groups and Assign Services to Subarea and Subarea to Area.
ii) For rest of the ESS applications like Time, Leave, Claims, Travel, Training, Reimbursements, Benifits and Payments, Pesronal Info you need to go to SPRO -> Personal management ->ESS -> Self-Service Settings

Additional Fields for ESS-Business Card Not Working for Certain Countries

Dear Experts,
We were trying to configure the additional fields to be displayed in Business Card - Overview Screen for all countries. We don't have problem configure and get the new fields display for Malaysia (Molga = 14) but having problem for the field to display for Hong Kong (Molga = 27) and Singapore (Molga - 25).
The strange thing is I am following the same steps as I configured for Malaysia. Somehow it is not working for Hong Kong and Singapore. As I understand, there is only 1 place to configure in SPRO for this requirement:
Personnel Management -> Employee Self-Service -> Service-Specific Settings -> Own Data -> Customizing of Personal Information Screens -> Determine Fields for Business Card on Overview Screen

The note 1159911 provided is within SAPK-60304INEAHR. Thus, I don't think this is the root cause of this inconsistency base on the Highest Support Package installed in our system.

Creation Of Track For ESS/MSS

Hi,
Could anybody send me the steps in brief or any document which gives step by step procude exactly what needs to be done in NWDI to create a track for ESS/MSS.
I have gone thru some of the sdn posts but i didnt get exactly what steps need to be done....like apart from importing predefined SCA's.
Please help me out...

Process: Creating Track for ESS/MSS Application.
1) open the NWDI URL.
2)click on "Change Management Service" link and login.
3)After logging you will be in "Transport Studio" link. Shift to "Landscape Configurator" link click on that, there you will see tract related page.
4)In the middle of the page there are differnet options(buttons) like Change,New,Save,Save As,e.t.c..
5)Click on New button then you will get new track related fields. After giving required details bottom of that there are some more options(buttons) like ADD Sc,Delete,e.t.c.., clcik on ADD Sc and add the SCs related to ESS/MSS and click on SAVE button which is present on top of window.
6)With these steps required track will be created...
