Hi,
Electronic Data Interchange
Cross-company exchange of electronic data (for example business documents) between domestic and international business partners who use a variety of hardware, software, and communication services. The data involved is formatted according to predefined standards. In addition to this, SAP ALE technology is available for data exchange within a company.

EDI FLOW :
Here is some thing which helps you and here the purchase order is taken as example too..
Electronic Data Interchange, or EDI, is the electronic exchange of business data. Using a standard format, EDI provides a method of transmitting business data from one computer to another, without the need to re-key data. This electronic link can result in more effective business transactions. With EDI, paper documents such as invoices can be replaced with electronic transmissions, thus time is saved, and the potential for error is minimized. Data can be exchanged at any time. Related business expenses, such as postage, printing, phone calls, and handling, can also be significantly reduced. EDI can aid in the support of manufacturing efforts, such as Just-in-Time and Third Party Warehousing, and financial efforts, such as Electronic Payments.
What parts of the business cycle can be supported by EDI?
Any business documents that are currently exchanged using paper can be converted to an EDI. Standards. Standards include ANSI X12 and XML/EDI are primarily used in the United States, while EDIFACT is used in Europe and Asia.
How does EDI get started?
EDI gets started when one company contacts another expressing interest in trading business documents electronically using Electronic Data Interchange. The two companies must first determine each other's EDI capabilities. If you do not already know your EDI capabilities, we have prepared a questionnaire to help you determine them. If you are already EDI capable, we will coordinate with your technical staff to determine a testing plan. Upon completion of testing the EDI documents, the appropriate business personnel will set a production start date to begin the exchange of EDI business data. If you are not EDI capable, we recommend you first obtain a commitment from your upper management. Your company will need to allocate resources and capital for software, hardware, testing, possible programming, and training.
What is the flow of EDI?
The flow of EDI depends on the sophistication of your systems and your EDI software. If you have internal purchasing/order entry systems, you will need interface programs that can extract and insert data out of and into these systems. EDI programs that interface with your internal systems are preferred over software that requires re-keying of data. Embassy Software specializes in seemless interface between EDI and your back office systems. Using a purchase order as an example of a business document your customer would send that PO electronically (850) to you. It could be sent either through a VAN (Value Added Network) or through an FTP server. You would take that 850 and convert it either into and ODBC database, a flat file or XML document to be imported into your Order System with the use of EDI Software such as PassportXchange.. Using EDI communication software, which is part of the PassportXchange package you would pull down data at set intervals from the VAN or FTP. These documents are then processed through EDI translation software and output to our order entry system. Finally, an EDI document called a functional acknowledgment (997) is sent to your customer.

  • Help creating edi 837 REF*D9 segment

    I need to create the REF*D9 segment for our trading partner. Our current edi process does not generate this segment.  The segment is basically a copy of the REF*F8 segment, except for the REF01 qualifier being different.  I have been able to
    generate the segment when the REF*F8 is in the subscriber loop, but the F8 segment can also be created in 2 other loops further down the schema (in the TS837_2330B loop). I have tried numerous solutions for this failing each time. I was told that XSLT would
    be best, but am not sure of the logic to use. I am new to BizTalk and XSLT, so I am not even sure of the syntax or how to reference the fields. This process is using 837P schema for source and destination. Could someone please help me out with how to populate
    this D9 segment, no matter what loop the F8 segment is created in? Thanks, I appreciate the help.

    I have been trying, but I guess I just don't get it. For the most part the mapping is a direct copy of the EDI 837. Main difference being that the trading partner needs the claims split into one claim per ST/SE segment (which I have working fine),
    and they require a REF*D9 segment. Our claims system does not generate the REF*D9 segment, but it is a copy of the REF*F8 segment. Problem there is that REF*F8 is generated in one of 3 spots. And two of those are deep in loops. I have tried the Index
    functoids. I have gone down to index level 9, still not getting info. I have looked at the code to see what is being selected. I have tried scripting functoids and selecting the element the same way. Doesn't work (don't know what I am doing wrong).  I
    have tried looping functoids.  Seems like no matter what I try I can only generate the REF*D9 when the REF*F8 segment is generated in the 2300 loop, under REF_SubLoop_5 in the REF_PayerClaimControlNumber.  If it is generated anywhere else, I
    can't seem to pick it up.  Again I am very new to BizTalk and XSLT, any other ideas for me to try?  Thanks.

  • Help on EDI to IDOC scenario using seeburger

    Hi,
    Anyone plzz explain me edi 850 to idoc orders05  scenario. at the same time how generated idoc will creat salesorder.
    Thanks,
    Seenu.

    Hi,
    You can see some basics about this integration in this blog:
    /people/prateek.srivastava3/blog/2009/08/01/seeburger--part-1--the-basics
    You need to get the 850 xsd and import it in IR. Then map your xsd to order05 idoc. Then to test first seeburger adapters need to be deployed. Now you need to configure your classifier and then the splitter if you have multiple 850s within one transmission. Then finally the BIC module to convert edi to xml. Then once you have your xml you need to do your message mapping with the idoc and send to sap.
    Once you install the seeburger adapters in your landscape you will have the documents for each of these ones. Go through them and configure.

  • EDI invoices

    hi guys
    pls clarify what is meant by EDI invoices
    how it wokrs
    how to load into SAP
    seenu...

    Hi,
    Electronic Data Interchange is one kind of Medium which is used to transfer the data among various modules or applications in R/3.
    EDI Invoice is posted directly into system via IDOCs if Vender send the same via EDI. Let me explain you the same from below example.
    Incase of intercompany sales invoice from one comapny to other company the process is as below
    1) Create STO at Receiving plant of company X
    2) Make Delivery of Goods with ref to STO from sending plant of Company Y also do PGI and sale invoice of goods for company X
    3) now come to your question this sales invoice is Purchase invoice at receiving plant...
    with the help of IDOC setting this invoice from SD module to MM module can be posted with the help of EDI with proper message  control and setting partner roles into system
    hope you will get idea from this reply..

  • SAP ABAP + EDI

    Hi friends,
      My organization is asking me to get trained in EDI to help the EDI team. I would be working on a EDI tool GIS. But I am not comfortable. I have around 4 yrs expereince as ABAPer..Just wanted to know how good would EDI be in a SAP Technical Resume. Having EDI in resume give any weightage to it and will EDI be of any use to a SAP Consultant?
    Please advice.
    Regards,
    M....
    PS: Hope this question would not abuse the actual intention of this forum.

    Hi Madhu,
    I don't think it is going to harm you in any way. I believe we should be open to learn more any time.
    SAP EDI is going to add a lot of value to your Resume. For any big client who has got buisness spread accross a wide range and has different buisness partners EDI proves a boon to them. You will be able to call your self a B2B integration consultant.
    It is a matter of fact that not all the companies in this world have SAP. So when we have to integrate a SAP Partner with a Non Sap partner (which I believe is very common) you will have to go for solution like EDI.
    I think that is a good oppertunity. You should not miss it.
    Regards,
    Prakash

  • Help Me with Encore CS6 Menu and buttons

    Hi I need help with Encore CS6 Menu's.  I have a Premiere CSs 6 video which is 3 hours long and 21 chapters.  It looks like I can get 18 of the buttons to work.  I also want to set up a exit button.  Is there a 18 button limit to a menu?  Should I be looking at using menu index's or play lists?
    Thanks in advance for your help.
    Ed

    I assume you have a single video on one timeline, and you have chapter markers for your chapters.
    A button (e.g. "play movie") links to the timeline (default is chapter one, which is what you want). The end action of the timeline is "last menu."
    Commonly, a second button on the main menu goes to a chapters menu. Each chapter menu has links back to the main menu and to the next and previous chapter menus.
    For EACH chapter, you create a chapter playlist with that one chapter in it. The end action of the chapter play list is "return to last menu."
    There are no end actions on chapters and no overrides anywhere in the project using this method.

  • No Disk Error when opening JFileChooser

    Hi all
    After launching my app via JWS and opening my apps FileChooser I get a 'javaw.exe - No Disk' error message:
    'There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive A:.'
    This doesn't happen if I start the app without JWS. Although it happens only the first time after opening the FileChooser it's rather annoying for the user. I can't expect the user always having a disk in their drive.
    Is there a way of switching the scan for drive A off?
    Thanks for your help.

    This is a SecurityManager - Problem and the java.io.File.
    eg.:
    System.setSecurityManager(new RMISecurityManager());
    File[] roots = File.listRoots();
    Then you will see the problem...
    I tried the following workaround:
    before you access disk. (or JFileChooser)
    SecurityManager sm = System.getSecurityManger();
    System.setSecurityManager(null);
    // disable the SecurityManger
    // this special disk access needs no SecurityManager..
    ... popup JFileChosser or make FileAccess..
    System.setSecurityManager(sm);
    // restore the old SecurityManger
    It's not the best solution but it works..

  • Cannot receive email from Verizon in Thunderbird 31.5.0

    Have successfully used Thunderbird with Verizon email for years.
    Recently updated to Thunderbird 31.5.0. Now cannot receive any Verizon messages---but can successfully send messages.
    Can receive Verizon messages on Android phone and with Verizon webmail client---Verizon account is functional.
    After many attempts to debug (including 15 mins on line with Verizon tech support), deleted Verizon account in Thunderbird and created a new account. Still cannot receive messages....but can still send messages.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks for any advice/help.

    I am really sorry if I have upset you by posting the same message twice. I only registered for the Forum this morning and this was my first message. I clicked Send before I received the email to confirm my address. I therefore assumed that the message had not gone.
    I apologize for this and can assure you that I will not do it again.
    If you are able could you give me some pointers as to what is happening. On looking at my Outbox it looks as though the message did go even though I got the error message.

  • Pictures are not downloaded

    I am using an iBook G4, with system 10.4.6, and Safari 2.0.3. Unexpectedly yesterday when I tried to download a web page there were no pictures. The printed narrative is fine, as well as movies using Quick Time or Windows Media.
    The only thing I can think of is doing the recommended software update just before the problem appeared. I did the latest Quick time, iPod, and a recommended security update that had "power book" in parenthesis which I thought was weird but since it was highlighted i did it.
    Help
    Thanks
    Ed

    I just upgraded to 10.4.6 (Software update) and Safari isn't loading all images on websites. It does fine with .tiff and .gif, but not .jpg or .jpeg. Even the Apple site won't load the main (large) images, only the smaller ones.
    I have checked my preferences and "Display images . . ." is checked. I deleted the /Users/YourUsername/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist file, restarted - no luck.
    I have invoked Safari from a term window and the only indication of an issue is this message:
    "Unsupported color conversion request"
    Any ideas?

  • Archiving Invoices out of SAP to IBM OnDemand

    Hi,
    has anyone an idea how and what is the best way to create via FTP a link to OnDemand to archive pdf-files or txt-/docfiles. Or is it better to do it via EDI?
    I am working the first time with IBM OnDemand, the normal way to archive in SAP I know, but not this one completely.
    Thanks a lot.

    Hello,
    I would invite you to look more into what EDI could do for as the NetWeaver Process Integration functionality (XI component and adapter) can help with EDI solutions.  Also, IBM has CommonStore which is SAP-certified with ArchiveLink interface and may help you bridge the archive docs between the IBM and SAP landscapes.
