Help on film transfer choices

I am producing a documentary. I am using interviews I shot on a Panasonic DVX100A NTSC and I'm using lots of archival footage. I am well into the editing process as my project is already well over an hour.
I am having film footage trasferred to Mini DV tape to I can capture into FCE. I have been asked the following two questions by the lab.
1. Specify time code preference: drop frame or non-drop frame.
2. Indicate whether you want speed correction for any footage that may originate from pre-sound or silent era or if you prefer any such items to be transferred at 24 frames per second.
I have not shot any interview using 24p. And all the footage is from the late 1950's and early 1960's. Any suggestions as to what I should do?

1 - for your purposes, I don't think it matters. Tell them non-drop frame.
2 - Your film footage isn't old enough to need the speed correction they're talking about. I don't think I would adjust the speed. If your main video sequences are NTSC (29.97fps) that's what you want the lab to give you.

  • Please help RE retrieval/transfer of imac hard drive to imac Part 2

Absolutely any assistance would be gratefully appreciated thank you. I am computer illiterate and I need assistance retrieving data from a imac hard drive (rest of computer isn't working) to a newer imac. Previously had received help from the forum and found out I needed an external casing (thank you again to all those that helped), but no shops near me sell them, sales person told me Sata HDD Docking (OTB) would be able to do a similar thing. I really suck with technology, so I humbly ask if any patient persons more intelligent than me could help me with some basic questions to help me retrieve/transfer data. Let me know if I need to give details. Any links to guides or tutorials welcome as well, but I tend to second guess myself and fail at basic terms often, there are probably 6 year olds with better computer skills and knowledge than me, so yeah, pity welcome, help even more so. Oh first question am I still suppose to use Migration Assistent or do I just turn on computer with old HD in dock connected?

Okay, I apologize for throwing you the following curveball - it appears the shop assistent I was talking to may not have been as knowledgeable as I had hoped, because I don't think my imac is compatible with USB 3.0? I tried putting it into the dock but nothing happened - it gave me four options, transfer from another Mac, transfer from a PC, transfer from a Time Machine (and something else) and forth option was not to transfer now.
I attempted to transfer from Mac and Time Machine options, but with both the loading dial spun for 10 mins with each with no change. So I decided to try and set up the computer anyway. The internet set up part came up but at the time I didn't know how to set it up, and now with retrospect I assume I have to set that up before I "register this computer" as no hard drive is showing onmy computer at the moment? Sorry for the sudden and strange switch in problems but now that I have set up the internet - could you or anyone else please tell me how I can register the computer details (or why the hard drive icon is not appearing assuming those things are connected - when I did fill those details out before it told me it couldn't send them now and would have to be done later?)
Sorry for being so clueless - any help appreciated.
I am looking up my imacs specs now to see if it actually can access this dock. (thank you once again)

Tell me how should I start it. I am new to Java World. but good in C/C++
I knew much about sockects. I have to make application which transfere real time voice from both side.

first you will have to digitize the stream, then cut it up into packets of handlable size, then you just sent them out over a valid socket connection.
Yes, I know this is very simple, what part are you having toubles with?

There are several ways, such as ODBC or migration workbench, which is also mentioned in the current article on sqldeveloper on OTN, here's the link. If you use this forum's search function, you should find several threads regarding this topic.

  • Film Transfer question

    Re: 16mm film transfer
    Hello;
I have some vintage 16mm film that I would like to have transfered to an editable format. If I work in FinalCutPro what format should the 16mm film be transfered too so that it can be edited?
Any suggestions for a quality-reasonably priced -Manhattan based vendor who will do this work?
    Thanks for your suggestions

If your system can handle HD, I'd ask for HD files on a drive since they'll likely crop the 16mm image to 16:9. That way you'll get as high a quality transfer as you can.

need help trying to transfer my information from one iphone to another

If you are restoring from an icloud backup you are going to have to erase a content and setting and while in the setup prompts you will get the option to restore from an icloud back...that's the only time you will get the option to restore from an icloud back and that's during setup

  • 8mm Film Transfer

My family has several projectors and many, many reels of 8mm film, dating back to 1937. Any tips on how to transfer to a medium that can than be imported into a computer. I have Final Cut Studio so I would like to edit these myself rather than take them somewhere else. Thought you experts might have some suggestions. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Really depends on the end-quality that you want (and how careful you want your films to be handled.)
The simplest, crudest method is indeed simply filming the projection. This has a couple of problems, and de-generates the image quality much more than necessary.
The best & most expensive way of transferring S8 to video is with a machine that uses a wet gate technology. This is very gentle on the film, gets rid of dirt and scratches, and gives amazing results. But your wallet won´t like it.
The middle way is using a specialized projector, which makes it possible to scan each and every frame of your film. These are made by a small family run business, Movie Stuff in Texas (i believe) http://moviestuff.tv/transfers.html
I´ve got one of their machines and think they are marvellous.
(And yes, they work on Macs; doing the finishing in FCP gives that extra edge.) Always good idea to add projector sound on a low level.
Yet another option is of course paying someone to do it for you; that way you get an experienced operator to do the transfer for you. Do a Google on 8mm tranfer, and you´d be amazed at the amout of results. Don´t go for the cheapest option...

  • Can anyone help me to transfer everything I have on my Ipad on to a new computer.  my hard drive crashed and a new one was installed and I do not want to loose all my apps or music.  Please help

    Hi everyone,
I am looking for help and maybe someone can help me please.  My hard drive crashed and dell installed a new one.  I have two iphones and an ipad with all my apps, music, amd photos.  Can anyone indicate me what to do so I do not lose everything when I plug in my phone.  Thanks

Naturally you should have a recent backup of your "crashed" hard drive. If you don't, well, hopefully you've learned a lesson but that doesn't solve your current problem.
If all your apps and media were purchased from the iTunes App Store, don't worry about them. Redownload all your apps and media, then allow iTunes to sync with and wipe your iOS devices - which will also put all the apps and media on them. You'll lose your settings, and any data which resided only on the iOS devices, and of course you'll need to organize your iOS folders and home screens and whatnot. But you won't really lose much, and without a backup this is your best choice.
If you have media from sources other than the iTunes App Store, look at Senuti or similar applications designed to copy media from iOS devices to computers. Use that first, then sync as I described in my second paragraph above. (I mention Senuti because it's popular. There are other options which work just as well, and some are even free.)

  • Help -- can't transfer ANYTHING to my new visio

I just bought a new zen vision:m. it looks nice, but i am having a very difficult time transfering anything to it.
    here is the problem:
I plugged the vision:m into my computer the first day and was able to charge it. Using Napster, I was able to transfer ~200 songs before getting "Unknown transfer error"s. Since then, when I connect the device to my computer, the vision:m says "docked", it charges, and the arrows on the screen dance around for about 90 seconds. During this 90 second period after plugging the device into my computer, any program that I have opened to transfer files (i.e., Napster, the Creative Zen Vision M Media Explorer, or Windows Media Player) freezes. After some time, the arrows stop dancing (but the screen still says "docked" and the battery continues to charge) and I have control of the software again. However, none of the programs can access the device. Trying to transfer music using Napster results in more "transfer error"s ... using the Creative Media Explorer results in an "unable to read from or write to device error" or just shows me an empty explorer window (i.e., "drag files here" ) ... Win Media Player gives similar complaints ("can't sync with device", etc.).
    here are the basics:
    --vision:m (2 days old, firmware version .40.02)
    --WinXP (service pack 2)
    --Windows Media player 0.00.00.4036
    --downloaded/installed recommended fixes
    Windows Media Format 9.5 Runtime:

    DRM performance fix:

    Fix for large data transfers
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/89536
--Napster to-go subscription (shouldn't really matter because I can't transfer DRM-WMA, MP3, photos, or videos)
Does anyone have any ideas? Please help. I should also mention that this is replacing an old Dell 20GB DJ (weren't the Dell's just Creatives in sheep's clothing?) that does work on this computer. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions. I really like my Vision:M ... although I don't think I can justify keeping it as a $200 radio if the file transfers don't work.
    Thanks in advance,
    ~Jeff

veggiegirl (and anyone else reading this thread),
thanks for the info ... unfortunately, it didn't help.
i ran "clean disk" and tried again. same as before ... when i plug the vision into my computer, the arrows spin around for some time (during this time, napster, media player, and zen media explorer freeze up), then the arrows stop and i get control of the software back. it's almost like the vision "times out" because both napster and zen media explorer both know when the device is plugged in versus unplugged, but neither one of them can actually "talk" to the vision.
ideas? anyone? anyone? please tell me i don't have to get an iPod.
    thanks again.

  • Film transfer from old PC to new iTunes

So a few years ago I purchased a load of films from iTunes (about 8/9 films). And they were on my iTunes account on my old PC which I now no longer have, I recently upgraded to an iMac and when I go onto iTunes I found that I didn't have any of the content I had on my old PC such as music files and films. It's kind of frustrating that there isn't a simple solution to this but let's face it there never is. So if anybody knows how I am able to get these films back it would be a great help. I know before when I was on the same account I was able to purchase something I bought before and I could download it for free but I dont want to accidentally download the wrong thing and have to spend a lot of unwanted money.
    Thanks! - Chris
UPDATE: After being told to sign into iTunes with my account and go to the purchases tab I did so however I can only find about 2 purchases on there from the past couple of months and they were apps?! There was absolutely nothing from my old PC which I had purchased, even a music video I purchased a while back wasn't on there. And seeing as I can't contact Apple directly it seems that this forum is the only solution. PLEASE HELP!!

  • Need help undoing photo transfer from iPhone 4s.

Hello gang, I need some help with a photo transfer as things have gone awry!
I had ~100 photos in my Camera Roll on my 4s.  Went to transfer these to a PC, as usual; however, I did (2) thiings differently this time:
    (a) did this directly to a USB (instead of to my hard drive first).
    (b) Instead of my normal 'copy/paste/delete' I did a 'cut/paste' in order to save a step.
Well, lo and behold, these are now on my USB but each at 1KB size and when I go to view I get the message "Windows Photo Viewer can't open this picture because either Photo Viewer doesn't support this file format, or you don't have the latest updates to Photo Viewer."  My PC is running Windows 7, and right now I have about 100 photos that are not accessible.  I am not able to 'copy' back to the iPhone and at this point they are lost.
I am curious if copying directly to the USB instead of to my hard drive has generated this issue, although I do not understand why.  I have plugged in the USB to other PCs and photos are still not readable, nor are the photos still present in my Camera Roll.  Please tell me these are not gone?!
    Help!

Please, try "Photo Transfer WiFi" or "Sync Photos to Storage" from the App Store. Does it solves your problem?
I recommend you the second app. It allows you to send all your Camera Roll photos and videos to the desktop in one tap!

  • Help-Trying to transfer library from PC to Ipod then to new Ibook G4

I hope someone can offer a suggestion. I downloaded from "somewhere??" an outline of how to use the Nano as a hard drive - to copy the itunes folder over to it and also gave instructions for hen attaching to the new computer and moving the itunes folder over with all my music.
Made a couple of attempts till I seemed to get that part right but on my new mac when I open itunes none of the songs are in the library. When I check where the library supposedly retrieves its info from everything looks okay. I can open the itunes folder in My Music and the songs all appear to be there but for some unknown reason aren't showing up in itunes.
I was lucky I did not turn automatic updating back on so I still also have the songs in my ipod - as well they still also seem to be appearing in itunes on my PC.
Could this problem have anything to do with trying to transfer from a PC to a MAC??
    Please help!

"I've read that the iPod will work for PCs -OR- for Macs, but you have to reset it to switch back and forth"
Not strictly true. Any Windows formatted drive can be read and written to by a Mac without the need to reformat, but not vice versa. And anyway, the OP doesn't want to use the iPod between Windows and Mac, he has transferred his music onto the iBook and now wants to populate the library with it.
Two people have posted ways to do this already.
