Help on installing mac os X leopard onto Intel cpu

Hi i planning to build a cpu with quad core processor P45 intel chipset from a non apple computer shop and install mac os X leopard onto it.
So was trying to find out did anyone tried installing mac os X leopard onto D.I.Y cpu which is not a mac base cpu ie the D.I.Y cpu not bought from apple store? If yes, is it stable on running mac program & will the os crash or hang etc ?

You cannot legally install OS X on a non-Apple computer. This is specified in the OS X licensing agreement.

  • When I am re-installing the Mac OSX snow leopard onto an older Mac I run into the window that says select the disk where you want to install Mac OSX but nothing is there to select

I am trying to re-install the Mac OSX snow leopard onto an older I mac with a new hard drive.  I run into the "select the disk "where you want to install Mac OSX but there is nothing in the window to select. Any advice?

After you install a new hard drive, you need to boot to another drive to initialize it to MAC OS Extended (journaled) format and create the partition(s) on the drive. You do this using Disk Utility. Otherwise, the mac operating install process doesn't see a formatted disk to install to.

  • Installing mac OS X leopard 10.5 version on my ibook

i'm trying to install mac OS X leopard 10.5 version on my ibook and it's not mounting on the desk top...it tries to read the DVD disc for 2-4 seconds then spits it out.
My Mac machine is described as follows:
    1) machine name: iBook G4
    2) machine model: PowerBook 6,7
    3) running: Mac OS X Tiger version 10.4.11
    4) Processor: 1.33 GHZ
    5) PowerPC G4
    6) memory: 1.5 GB
    7) lots of hard drive memory 70 GB
ATA bus model number of DVD drive is:
    MATSHITACD-RW CW-8124
    Revision: DBOD
    Detachable drive: no
    Protocol: ATAPI
    Unit number: 0
    Socket type: internal
apparently this mac OS X leopard disc is a DVD dual layer format and my drive reads only DVD single layer DVD's....is this in fact true?
I thought i did my due diligence properly before buying this OS X but i guess not.
Your help, ideas and guidance is much appreciated.
    thanks and sincerely,
    g.

Is this the retail version of Mac OS X 10.5 you have?
If so, it should work. If it is a gray Install disc that came with another Mac, it won't work.

  • Just installed mac osx snow leopard upgrade and connected my printer to it too, and realized I have no sound anymore

Just installed mac osx snow leopard upgade and connected my printer too, and realized I have lost sound!   Can anyone help?

In case I misunderstood, did you mean that the 10.6.3 version of Snow Leopard was the upgrade?  If so you need to update via 10.6.6 to 10.6.8.  These updates can correct minor system upsets.
And ... did you also repair permissions both before and after you upgraded.   You should do this when you progress via 10.6.6 to 10.6.8 too.

  • I can't erase, reboot, repartition or instal mac os x leopard on my hard dr

I can't erase, reboot, repartition or instal mac os x leopard on my hard drive.
I tried installing windows xp using bootcamp. I think I accidently installed it on the same partition as leopard. I didnt complete the installation of windows xp. but leopard got deleted.
I tried to reinstall leopard. I wont let me do it cause my hard drive is partition't as a windows nt file system (NTFS). I cant repartition it either using disk utility cause for some reason its read only.
    Can someone help me.

    Do this:
    Extended Hard Drive Preparation
    1. Boot from your Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from theUtilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (only required for Intel Macs) then click on the OK button. Set the number of partitions from the dropdown menu (use 1 partition.) Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the volume(s) mount on the Desktop.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process will take 30 minutes to an hour or more depending upon the drive size.
Steps 4-6 are optional but should be used on a drive that has never been formatted before, if the format type is not Mac OS Extended, if the partition scheme has been changed, or if a different operating system (not OS X) has been installed on the drive.
Quit DU and return to the installer. Complete the Leopard installation. After you've installed Leopard you can use Boot Camp Assistant to create a Windows partition and install Windows.

  • Can I install Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.6?

I have a Apple iBook G4 (mid 2005) running Mac OS X Tiger. Can I install Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.6 on this Mac or can you only install Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.6 on Macs that are already running Leopard?

    Hi Leet ...
If you have an OS X Leopard install disk of any type,
That not fully correct ... to install OS X Leopard yuo will need full retail DVD or CD. These are the Black ones with a Big X on it.
Be care full by providing information that could corse issues or even damages on a Mac.
See you on the board ...

  • Instaling Mac OS X Leopard

I have a desktop I wanted to install Mac OS X Leopard on but I cannot seem to boot from the DVD, can someone tell me where I am going wrong.
My other topic got deleted some how.
    Thanks

    Bigmoss,
Apple's User License Agreement specifically forbids installing Mac OS X on anything other than a Macintosh computer. Breaking a license agreement is a violation of the law. Read the Terms of Use on the right. They specifically forbid discussing installing on anything other than an Apple manufactured machine:
    http://images.apple.com/legal/sla/docs/macosx105.pdf
    2. Permitted License Uses and Restrictions.
    A. Single Use. This License allows you to install, use and run one (1) copy of the Apple Software on a single *_Apple-labeled computer_* at a time. You agree not to install, use or run the Apple Software on any non-Apple-labeled computer, or to enable others to do so. This License does not allow the Apple Software to exist on more than one computer at a time, and you may not make the Apple Software available over a network where it could be used by multiple computers at the same time.
The bold underlined above is my emphasis. Thus any discussion on this board regarding breaking that license agreement is subject to post deletion and or locking. If you are interested in installing Mac OS X, the technical specifications here:
    http://support.apple.com/specs/
    and here:
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/techspecs/
explain which Macs new or used you can install it on. I've listed used and refurbished Mac websites on my website here*:

  • I am trying to re-install Mac OS X Leopard

I tried to re-install Mac OS X Leopard and then realized I only had one disc and did not have disc two. Apple sent me an install DVD but not disc two.  Is there anyway I can cancel the install of disc one and install the DVD?

Reboot & hold alt key at bootup with the new Disc in place.

  • Can I install Mac OS X Leopard (not the server version) on a Xserve?

    Hi all.
Can I install Mac OS X Leopard (not the server version) on a Xserve and run BootCamp (to use Windows), and other Mac applications like FileMaker, Toast, iWork, e.g.?
    Thanks in advance.

Can I install Mac OS X Leopard (not the server version) on a Xserve
Yes, but some functions may not work as intended. See here for some information; all Mac OS X 10.5 installations are universal binary.
and run BootCamp (to use Windows)
Probably not. Use a program such as Parallels Desktop.
and other Mac applications like FileMaker, Toast, iWork, e.g.?
    Yes.

  • Installing Mac OS X leopard using CPU drop-in DVD

Hi. I'm a first time Mac user and have been using Mac OS X leopard happily for past 4 months.
Then something happened... my macbook kinda gave up on me..
it won't start.. it would only start up to chime once and show bluish-gray screen with the wheel turning.. so i decided to look up solution using mac for dummies..
it told me how to reinstall pressing C and power button and all...
so i got the software reinstalled. but what i didn't know was the install CD i had was for the older version of Mac OS X (i think it's the tiger)..
so now i'm stuck with tiger.. which i'm not familiar with.
but i have this Mac OS X leopard CPU Drop in DVD with me.. and i looked up what it was and the sources tell me it's a upgrading CD for Macbook with tiger.
so i tried to run in hoping it would upgrade readily..
but now the problem is the dvd drive won't read this DVD.
i never had this problem before.
DVD drive read any kind of DVD before but recently after this disaster it won't read any of the DVDs i insert.
i'm a total macbook newbie and computer (especially macbook) dummy..
so could any of macbook experts out there help me solve my problem?...
in summary, i'm faced with 2 questions.
    1. how do you get my DVD drive to recognize dvd? (do i need to change a setting?)
    2. how do you upgrade tiger to leopard using cpu-drop in dvd? (once i get my dvd drive to read the dvd!! )
    Thank you so much!

Have you tried booting straight from the DVD?
    From another post:
"This disc is upgrade only. When you run the Leopard installer it says that Tiger must already be installed on the machine. Further, it does not offer the standard installation options (Archive and Install, Erase and Install, and Upgrade); it only offers Upgrade. The upgrade disc, however, does seem to require a previous Tiger install (i.e. it won't work on a newly formatted hard drive)."
"covers machines bought 10/1 thru 12/29 2007, Usually the disks that come with the computers are tied to that specific model"

Help needed again. I just installed mac os x snow leopard on my imac. sometimes when I open a window it freezes and then suddenly unfreezes until the next time. the tool bar does not identify what program is opened when frozen. It says finder instead

  • Need Urgent Help Cannot install Mac OSX 10.6 on 20" intel imac

I recently purchased an intel imac an intel mac pro from an auction. When i purchased the macs i was told that no operating systems will installed and i would need to purchase and install mac osx10.
I purchased the mac osx10.4.6 family pack from the apple store online.
i put the new disc in the mac and restarted holding down c.
for some reason nothing happens and i get folder with a question mark.
I have tried this several times but nothing seems to work.
I am a complete novice with macs and migrsting from pc.
    thanks

You cannot buy a retail version of Tiger that will install on any Intel Macs. You must have the original installer discs that came with the computer. You should not have purchased the computers without them nor should they have been sold to you without them.
The only option you have is to call AppleCare or go to a local Apple store and see if you can purchase the discs needed for each computer (there are different versions for each model.)

  • Quicktime Player states "You can't open the application QuickTime because the Classic environment is no longer supported."  I just installed Mac OSX Snow Leopard.  What do I need to do?

I just installed Mac OSX (10.6.8) and can not get Quick time player to work.  When I go to the Apple site to download a version that will work, it states that Quick Time Player automatically comes with OSX.  What do I need to do to use Quick Time Player with 10.6.8

Mac OS X 10.6 includes QuickTime versions 10.0 and 7.6.3. The QuickTime 7 player will only be present if a QuickTime Pro key was present at the time of installation, or if specified as part of a custom install, or individually downloaded:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/dl923
Snow Leopard update 10.6.4 included an update to 7.6.6 (if installed). You can install it from the above link  even though it says for 10.6.3. It's the same version of QuickTime Player 7.6.6.
(Only QuickTime Player 7.6.3 or 7.6.6 can be updated to "Pro".)
