Help on installing/opening Microsoft office 2011 v14.0.0 on Mavericks

Hello Mac Users!
I have updated from Snow Leopard 10.6.8 to Mavericks few days ago. I have a previously installed Microsoft word 2011 on my 10.6.8. After the upgrade to Mavericks,  I am unable to open word, excel etc. and get a notification that " Check with the developer to make sure the version of Micrososft works with OS X. You may re-install the application and make sure to update OS for Software.
I have tried to unistall completely, and have added a new user to test it. But unfortunately, and even after fresh installation nothing works. I have also run uninstall tool and removed all possible microsoft traces.
Surprisingly when I locate Microsoft on the terminal it still shows /Applications/Microsoft 2011 (Which does not exist on finder)
It has been also happening with third party softwares like yahoo messenger, Skype.
I would really appreciate any quick fix for this. I am using Macbook mid-2010 model.
Thanks in advance!
I have posted a log here for a more detailed info.

I have three suggestions in addition to getting rid of Trusteer Rapport and MacKeeper. Be sure you followed their respective uninstallation instructions. Do not attempt to uninstall them any other way.
You disabled an essential component designed to protect your Mac from malware. Re-enable it: OS X: About Gatekeeper - Apple Support
Update OS X. The version installed is over six months old. OS X Mavericks: Install, update, and uninstall apps
2 GB memory is barely adequate for any recent Mac, let alone Microsoft's bloatware. For acceptable performance, 4 GB should be considered a more realistic minimum. Your Mac can address as much as much as 6 GB.
http://store.apple.com/us/mac/mac-accessories/memory
"Memory sold by the Apple Online Store is guaranteed to be compatible with your Macintosh."
Other than Apple there are only two vendors with which I have personal experience and can recommend: Crucial and OWC. People have reported problems with many other brands, yet Crucial and OWC's prices are as good as any you are likely to find.
Go to Crucial and download the little app that examines your system and recommends RAM upgrade options.
Their prices are good but don't have to buy memory from them - determine what you need and buy it from Crucial or OWC / MacSales.

  • I cant install the Microsoft office 2011 program

Hi - I had installed the Microsoft Office 2011 program before and then there was an upgrade available. After doing the upgrade...there was a constant error message whenver I opened any related programs, so I deleted the program files. But now when I try to redownload it, there is an error message to say something like: "the office file is not found on this disk to perform this upgrage" (those are not the exact words). But it seems as though it's trying to upgrade but I want to reinstall the entire [program
    Thanks!

Follow this guide to completely remove Office 2011

    Then try installing it again.

  • Can't open Microsoft Office 2011 even after unistalling then reinstalling. Error message comes up before launch. What do I do? Can I fix this? I need to activate Microsoft Office within 15 days!!

I recently got a new MacBook Pro Running on OSX Mavericks and used Time Machine to move my documents and applications. However Microsoft Office Student/ Home applications did not work and requested a product key. I did not have the product key for it as I had installed Microsoft a long time ago, so I purchased a new Mincrosoft Office 2011 Student/Home Pin to install Microsoft Office. Everything installed fine, however when I go to open it it failed to open.
I need to activate my Microsoft Office within 15 days apparently and this is done when the application is launched. However none of the Microsoft Office applications do Launch (not Word, Powerpoint, Excel or Outlook).
Whenever I tried to open one of the named above the Microsoft Error Reporting App would pop up and list the errors. I was advised on other support pages to disenable this app so I have done that but now Word is now giving its own error message saying:

I don't know or understand what is stopping me from launching my Misrosoft Office. I am wondering if others have encountered similar problems with OSX Mavericks and the Microsoft Office 2011? Does anyone have any ideas of how I can get it to launch?
I need to get hold of my Word and Powerpoint Documents ASAP.

This indicates you had a bad install. You need to completely remove Office and reinstall using your new CD Key. See instructions here. Do not do the simple remove, Use the COMPLETELY REMOVE ALL FILES steps.

so I purchased a new Mincrosoft Office 2011 Student/Home Pin to install Microsoft Office.
You don't purchase a PIN. A PIN is generated when you install Office. You need a CD Key. If you bought Office365, you activate online.
I have issues with the Microsoft User Data - are there supposed to be two? and where exactly do they belon. They are in the Documents file at the moment.
Unless you used Outlook or Entourage you can delete both Microsoft User Data folders. When you install Office it will create a new one. Only Outlook & Entourage used this folder for data. W,E,P stores it's data in the User's Library/Application Support/Microsoft folder now.

Reinstalling Office will have no effect.
    Back up all data.
Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
Note: You need an always-on Ethernet or Wi-Fi connection to the Internet to use Recovery. It won’t work with USB or PPPoE modems, or with proxy servers, or with networks that require a certificate for authentication.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, follow the prompts to reinstall the OS. You don't need to erase the boot volume, and you won't need your backup unless something goes wrong. If your Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade, so make a note of those before you begin.

  • Microsoft Office 2011 crashes under 10.9 Mavericks - solved

    1. New machine running 10.9 (Mavericks).
    2. Migrated a user from another machine also running Mavericks; that had Office 2008 and Office 2011 installed and (at least Office 2011) was running fine.
    3. On the new machine, Word launched and then crashed immediately, never fully loading.
    4. Tried the updaters 1410 and 1439. Installation failed with no suitable destination found - they could not be installed because of missing components.
    5. Followed procedure to completely uninstall Office (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2398768), removing Office 2008, 2011, Messenger.
    6. Ran Office 2011 installer. Again, Word would not load.
    7. Tried the updaters 1410 and 1439. Installation failed with no suitable destination found - they could not be installed because of missing components.
    8. (As it turns out, steps 5, 6, 7  might have been unnecessary).
    9. Created a new user. Office ran!
    10. Update 1439 was accepted and the update ran.
    11. Switched back to the original user; all OK.
    Hope this helps.
    Cheers,
    Kevin

  • Microsoft Office 2011 not working with OSX Mavericks

    Hello,
I downloaded OSX Mavericks within the past two or three days, and I've been able to use Microsoft Word just fine. I tried opening PowerPoint today and it crashed, so I updated the Microsoft Office package. Now, I cannot open anything but Messenger.

Went through this exact problem two weeks ago.
Basically, when I installed I then updated and only Word would open correctly. After calling the help desk and going through a ton of suggestions we got it to work by doing update 14.1.0 and then opening Word and updating to 14.1.2. This fixed my problem and it hasn't repeated... and I use the whole office suite daily.
IIRC it was the 14.1.2 update after 14.1.0 that did it, however you can call Microsoft support... just make sure you have about 45 minutes available if you have to do some serious troubleshooting if the two updates don't fix it for you. Keep in mind this worked for me so YMMV.

  • Important Microsoft Office 2011 Excel File isn't opening Please Help!

    Hello everyone,
I'm having problems opening one single excel file. I've tried others and they open with no issue. This file I'm trying to open now opened 2 days ago as it's a project I've been working on and I desperately need to get back to working on it!
I'm running OS X 10.8.4 on a Macbook Pro with Microsoft Office 2011. When I open the workbook it loads the progress bar, then doesn't show anything from excel apart from the top bar with file/edit/view... etc
When I try and open it from this point it gives me a message
    'XXX.xlsx is already open.
Reopening will cause any changes you made to be discarded. Do you want to reopen XXX.xlsx
PLEASE HELP and don't hesistate to ask for anymore information if you need it. Thank you.

Such instances are examples of why one should maintain good backups.  I suggest you consider using Time Macnine backups.  It would allow you to go back in time to earlier versions of the file if a later one is corrupted or if you save unwanted changes by mistake.
You would need a $80 external disk drive for the Time Machine volume.  Your data is much more valuable than that $80 cost.  Disks can fail at any time, taking all of your data with them.

  • I've downloaded Microsoft Office 2011 and installed it, but i can't find it on my applications or open it up in my downloads

I've downloaded Microsoft Office 2011 and installed it, but i can't find it on my applications or open it up in my downloads. I can I get my microsoft up and running? - New to Mac

Did you actually run the installer? If so, there should be a Microsoft Office 2011 folder in your Applications folder. Have you checked there and confirmed that the folder does not exist? If it does not, try running the Office installer again. Note that if all you did is open the disk image file, you have to now go to the image (which looks like a drive in Finder) and then run the installer.
    Regards.

I purchased downloaded and installed microsoft office 2011 onto my iMac. At no time was I prompted to enter the product key so I am unable to activate the software. Can anyone tell me what to do in order to activate the software?

  • I am using Microsoft office 2011 for mac, publisher is not included, meanwhile I have publisher files saved from windows, is there any recommended software I can install on the mac so that I can open the files?

How can I be able to use my Windows publisher files on my Mac computer, since Microsoft office 2011 for Mac doesn't have Publisher? What's most recommended software to use for this purpose?

Just an FYI here Allan, and clinton.
Version 4.0 or newer of Libre Office can open and edit Publisher files, this is fairly new, you may not have noticed it yet,
I tested it last week for another OP, it works very well, so finally there is a Mac application that can replace Publisher.
Here's a link to the post.
VikingOSX deserves the credit for finding it.

  • How do I fix formatting errors in Open Office after downloading Microsoft Office 2011 on my mac?

I have used Open Office for almost 2 years. I recently downloaded Microsoft Office 2011 and now, not only can I not use Open office due to formatting issues, I cannot read any of my documents that were saved in Open Office unless I open them in TextEdit or copy and paste into microsoft word. Does any know of any solutions to this problem?? I tried deleting Microsoft office but that did not fix the issue. This is my first mac... and I love Open Office and prefer it over microsoft...

    Crabtree1234,
    Try this:
    Install LibreOffice (https://www.libreoffice.org/)
    Open your OpenOffice document(s)
Do a "Save As" and choose "Word Document (.docx)"
Then try opening them in Word.  LibreOffice is mostly the same as OpenOffce but LibreOffice has support for saving .docx files.  Here is more about the crazy history of the relationship (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LibreOffice).
This may or may not help with the formatting as any conversion of one document format to another is bound to cause issues.
    Good luck.

  • Microsoft Office 2011 Not Opening

    Hi there,
I have not been able to get Microsoft Office 2011 to work on my MacBook (Yosemite) apart from the first day it was installed. Since then it has failed to open any application (Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook). I have searched the internet for an answer and have tried pretty much everything so far.
    - Uninstall / re-install (multiple times).
    - Had my computer completely wiped by Apple and started again.
    - Installed Office via CD Rom, internet site Microsoft gave me, other sites on the web.
The basis of my problem is that nothing will open. For some reason though, my Powerpoint app at least loads and says that I need to rebuild the 'Database Utility'. This has been the consistent error since day 2, however when I do this it changes nothing. All my updates and software are up-to-date, yet I can't fix the problem.
Has anyone experienced this or know a way which may help me in this situation? The fact that it hasn't worked despite my computer being literally cleaned completely and installed again worries me.

I have the somewhat same problem. I have an iMac and a Macbook Air. Microsoft office 2011 for mac was loaded on both under previous OS X versions. After upgrading to Yosemite, they still both worked. But I removed Office from my Macbook air and reloaded it in an attempt to load some other features in excel that I had not loaded the first time. After this, Office does not load or launch on the Macbook Air. It still runs fine on the iMac.

  • So when I installed the most recent updates for microsoft office 2011 for mac, my ical info disappeared.  Still have the info on my Office calendar but it's no longer on ical.  It's also been removed from my phone.  How can I get outlook to sync with ical

When I installed the recent updates for Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac, my iCal calendar was wiped out, as was the calendar on my iPhone.  I'd rather use iCal than Office and was attempting to phase Office out altogether.  Now, all of my information is on the Office calendar but not iCal.  The iCloud version of my iCal calendar is not up to date.  In any event, I couldn't figure out how to send that info to the iCal on my mac or my phone.  How can I sync my Office calendar info to iCal?  If that's not possible, how can I get my Office calendar to sync with my iPhone?  All of my sync services are set up in iTunes and on my phone.  This happened to me once before and I spent hours on the phone with Apple and on the web trying to work it out.  I NEED MY CALENDAR!!!! PLEASE HELP!!!!!

As that's not an Apple product, you may get more help by using Microsoft's Office for Mac forums:
    Office for Mac forums
The other concern I have is that Office 2011 requires an Intel-based Mac and you posted in the older iMac (pre-Intel or "PPC") forums. If you have an Intel-based iMac (Apple menu > About this Mac..." will say "Intel" if you do) then I think you'll get faster and more accurate ansers to other questiosn in the Apple forums for newer iMacs here:

  • How can I get to install Microsoft Office 2011 in my Mac OS X 10.6.8 if when down to "writing package scripts" it fails ?, How can I get to install Microsoft Office 2011 in my Mac OS X 10.6.8 if when down to "writing package scripts" it fails ?

How can I get to install Microsoft Office 2011 in my Mac OS X 10.6.8 if when down to "writing package scripts" it fails ?

Contact Microsoft support and ask for help.  You've paid for the kit, so installation-time support is part of the expectations.  They'll probably suggest a Repair Permissions and a Verify Disk pass, both performed by booting the installation DVD and using Disk Utility from the Utilities menu item, and selecting those two repairs.

  • Microsoft office 2011 under Mavericks: can not open password protected files

I think that it all started with the installation of Mavericks.
I have a few Microsoft office 2011 files (excel and word) that are passord protected. Now, it's telling me that the file can not be opened due to an encrytion sheme that is not available in this country (I'm in Canada).
I've re-installed Microsoft Office, but that did not solve the problem.
    Thanks

Same problem for me, I had two password-protected Word files and  both won't open now. It started after i tried to add support for an additional language (spanish), but removing it afterwards did not fix the problem.
OS 10.9, Office mac 2008 AND 2011 wont open the files BUT Preview can open it! (BTW this saved me)
