Help on JVM installation in Solaris 10

Hi
Currently we have j2sdk1_3_1_04 installed in Solaris 8.x.
We are going to migrate the OS to Solrais 10.
Can we install j2sdk1_3_1_04 in Solaris 10?
Do we need any patches to be installed to have j2sdk1_3_1_04 in Solaris 10?
Regards
Ravi.

I have the same issue, but will be trying the instructions in the link attached:

I have a problem with proper JVM installation.
On 8.1.6 it's enough to run jvminit to install java and to make it work with IIOP. But on 8.1.7 after running initjvm (succefully without any errors) i still have some objects (that exists in 8.1.6 installation) missing (for example AttrsToCorba class etc.),
anyway I cannot make IIOP connection to tha t instance.
Does anyone know what sql scripts should be runned and what jars should be loaded to database to make IIOP connection possible?
My oracle is: "Oracle8i Enterprise Edition Release 8.1.7.0.0"

  • Help needed on installation of Oracle 9i on Sun Solaris 8

    Hey,
Help needed on installation of Oracle 9i EE on Sun Solaris 8. The problem I met was: we followed the installation guide from the documentation. And we selected the choice "install software only". After it was done successfully, we run Database Configuration Assistant utility to create a database instance. But finally it always tried to create the instance at the root directory ( / ) which doesn't have enough space and then failed. The case was that we have set the enviroment parameters: $ORACLE_BASE = /export/mydata, $ORACLE_HOME = /export/apps/oracle9i. That means it should be installed at /export/mydata, but it didn't. Any help or advice are welcome. Thanks.

I have downloaded Oracle 11G R2 version from Windows and extracted it in Windows and copied it into DVD after extraction in two folders. Now I am mounting that DVD in Solaris 10 installed in my VMware . I made a new directory named as 'installation ' under /export/home/oracle and copied the folders from DVD to 'installation' folder. Now I am entering installation folder and try to do ./runInstaller as 'oracle ' user and getting the error mentioned before.

Can you please help me providing detailed pre-requesites/steps/procedure to implement this and to start boot from SAN.
    2) How to SMI Label/Format a disk while OS Installation in Solaris 11.1?
As we know that ZFS is the default filesystem in Solaris 11.
We have seen in the Oracle documentation that for rpool below are recommended:
    - A disk that is intended for a ZFS root pool must be created with an SMI label, not an EFI label.
    - Create root pools with slices by using the s* identifier.
    - ZFS applies an EFI label when you create a storage pool with whole disks.
    - In general, you should create a disk slice with the bulk of disk space in slice 0.
I have seen the solution that using format -e, we change the labelling but all the data will be lost, whats the way to apply a SMI Label/Format on a rpool disks while OS Installation itself.
Please provide me the steps to SMI Label a disk while installaing Solaris 11.1 OS.

Oracle recommends below things on rpool: (thats reason wanted to apply SMI Label)

  • Installation error Solaris 10-u6-ga1

I must be missing something really obvious on the installation of Solaris 10 U6. I've come up against the error message upon manually partitioning, and using UFS. After the install the error is:
Solaris 10 10 software installation partially failed
    Solaris 10 packages partially installed
    SUNWlur
Then at reboot it loops and loops
If I install using ZFS no problem. Unfortunately I have to use UFS for this install.
I pulled down the sol-10-u6-x86-ga1 dvd and installed on an Vmware to see what I'd get. If I manually setup the drive, it fails to with the same error.
Here is my drive layout both sparc server and vmware(x86)
    / = 10 Gb
    swap = 10 Gb
    /etc = 10 Gb
    /usr = 10 Gb
    /var = 10 Gb
    /export=remaining drive space.
    I'm I missing something obvious?
    thanks
    bill

There should be more information in the install log about why the one package failed. If you search for the package name in the log you should be able find it. Then that might help determine whether the package can be installed on its own, possibly fixing your reboot issue.

Are you trying to install Solaris 9 onto a server that is already running Windows XP and to keep Windows XP too?
You'll need to create a partition on which to install Solaris, - search for Solaris Windows Dual Boot on docs.sun.com for more information.

  • Need Agent Installer for Solaris (SPARC)

    Hi All,
I have downloaded Grid Control Agent Installer for Solaris from http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/oem/htdocs/agentsoft.html.
When I tried to extract the zip file, I am getting the following error message.
"Can not open file. It does not appear to be a valid archive. If you downloaded this file, try downloading the file again."
Even I tried using http://sac.us.oracle.com/download/index.html also but getting the same error.
Please send me the location if you have,
    Thanks
    Sumathi

Most commands are identical. Performance analysis, loading all are similar. Tape interaction, creation of tape devices is going to be pretty much the same.
The differences show up a lot at the hardware level. HBAs aren't usually the same, many drivers (and their quirks) are different between the architectures. If you're debugging connectivity to a tape library, those differences may be critical.
So you can't get as close as you may want, but I'll bet it would still be helpful.

Yes I am using OCI driver. But can you tell me where is the problem using OCI driver?Nope.
If you want to spend the time then you do the following.
    1. Reduce the code to the point where you have a small example that fails
    2. Make a bug report to Oracle.
If you want a solution, since waiting on a Oracle fix is unlikely to be something that you can do (unless you have a service contract and they state that they will fix it) then do one of the following.
    1. Use the thin driver, not the OCI one.
    2. Use a different version of the OCI driver
    3. Determine exactly where the problem occurs and find a different way to structure the code (java and SQL) so the error does not occur.
I don't think my system is corrupted because the core is comming in customer machine as well as our test machine.
That doesn't completely eliminate the possibility but it does make it much less likely.
we are getting core from libjvm.so , so I think it is not the crash of oracle VM. It is the crash of SUN VM
what do you think? The Oracle and Sun VMs are completely different applications. They are your applications so I can't tell you what you are running. The Oracle VM would, normally, be used for embedded java procs in the database itself. And if you are using OCI in that code then you are doing it wrong.

  • Wu-ftpd installable for solaris 10 and solaris 9

    Hi,
I could see only "proftpd" is available http://www.sun.com/software/solaris/freeware
But I am looking for the "wu-ftpd" server which is compatable with Solaris 9 and Solaris 10.
Any one help me from where I can get the "wu-ftpd" installable for solaris 9 and solaris 10 sparc server.
    thanks,
    Amudha

    Hi Robert,
    Thanks for your reply.
I too saw that the ftp version used in solaris 10 by default is wu-ftpd, but I am not sure about it, because when I tried to ftp to my solaris box the version it is started is not "FTP server (Version wu-2.6.2(5)".
I have got the wu-ftpd installable. But I could not get the proper document for configuring the same.
Question1: How to stop existing ftp service and start newly instlaled wu-ftpd in Solaris 9 and Solaris 10 servers?
Earlier solaris 8 version I change the ftpd version in /etc/inetd.conf file and give HUP signal to inetd then this new wu-ftpd version will be used.
Question 2: It always starts the system inbuilt ftp server and also I am getting ftp log in failure for any user which I add newly or even existing users.
could any one help to resolve these issues? Thanks in advance for your help.

  • How to Add a Physical Interface After Installation in Solaris 10

How to Add a Physical Interface After Installation in Solaris 10
    Hi Java Specialist,
I am trying to setup a network interface with the following steps on a new fresh Solaris 10 installation using the instruction titled How to Add a Physical Interface After Installation in Solaris 10 3/05 ONLY from http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E19253-01/816-4554/esxhb/index.html:
    1. # ifconfig lo0 plumb up
    2. # ifconfig lo0 10.56.8.101 netmask 255.255.240.0. This was the working Windows DHCP environment prior to installing Solaris
    10 on top of it.
    3. # Added saturn to /etc/hostname.lo0.
    4. # Added 10.56.8.101 to /etc/inet/hosts
    5. # Added 10.56.0.0     255.255.240.0 to /etc/inet/netmasks
    6.# reboot
However, the following errors kept recurring:
svcs –xv …. unable to qualify my own domain name,
    failed with exit status 69.
Any idea on what other steps have I missed? I was hoping to only do step 3 – 6 for the change to apply permanently.
    Many thanks,
    Jack

Hi Java Specialist,... in a Solaris forum?
    1. # ifconfig lo0 plumb upThe loopback connection (your lo0)is NOT a physical interface. There are no hardware components for it. Nor can I think of any reason why it should ever be anything other than the default 127.0.0.1
Use your favorite Internet search site (such as Google, Bing, Yahoo) to learn more about it.
    2. # ifconfig lo0 10.56.8.101 netmask 255.255.240.0. This was the working Windows DHCP environment ...I have no idea how a nonexistent software construct gets a DHCP address in a MS Operating System, unless you are confusing this with the "Microsoft Loopback Adapter" which is an utterly different concept. Again, go see what Google tells you.
    <br>
    <br>
    <br>
... completely unrelated to configuring an IP...
unable to qualify my own domain nameAgain, search the Internet or even search these forums with that string of words.
Go back through your two most recent posts and read the responses again.
They seem to both be on the same topic as this new one -- configuring an IP on something.
How to initialize new IP address on secondary interface permanently
How to change IP address permanently on Solaris 10
When you've done all that, then come back and tell us what you are actually trying to do.
